Wow, this place is a gem. Neighborhood book and record shop with charm to spare! Great collection of used vinyl, used and new books and other oddities. Found a few albums that I had been looking for a great price! Owner was very helpful and enjoyable to chat with at check out. Great little spot to slow down and browse!
Very cool & unique shop with a ton of oldies . But I couldnt find no Etta James but really didnt get chance to really to give it a good look . But they had a lot to go through . Plan on making a trip back this week .
Great place to shop for used vinyl. New owner is a lovely person and very welcoming.
Great book and vinyl store. They ordered a book for me and was at the store in 2 days. Great service.
IV&B is simply the best. I’ve purchased books, vinyls, jewelry, and now even puzzles here and I’m more than happy to keep doing so because the store is an absolute gem. Obviously plenty of cool things in the store, but if you don’t find what you’re looking for Elysia can order vinyls in for you and have books ship straight to your house. Plus, Violet is the best shop cat hands down.
A place I’ve been trying to get back to because the atmosphere and selection here is fantastic. The fact that you can sample records in a nice cozy spot adds to the vibe. The employees are nice and helpful as well. If you’re wanting a good spot to scoop some gems I’d highly recommend swinging by here
Took my 14yo daughter who just got a vinyl record player for her birthday and she was in heaven. It was clean and very organized, lots of books and records to chose from. Just loved the vibe of the place overall!
One of my favorite shops in Indy. Excellent selection, and they can order for you! Always better than Amazon.
Found a unique gift. Pet the kitty.
I sold and received a history lesson on records and the store. I will highly recommended everyone who is a music lover to stop in.
A wide range of vintage records and books. You can find some old cassette tapes and CDs as well. Looking through the albums brought back good memories. On the other hand, some of the songs brought back memories of the girls dumping me in high school (lol). They have some neat products on the shelves including a few old Real to Reel movies and earrings made from vintage records. Overall, its a well-run shop where the owner and staff want to genuinely help those who walk through the doors.
I love going to Irvington Vinyl & Books. This is a hidden gem in Indy. So many different forms of music in a truly awesome store. Its hard to find a enjoyable place to get cds, records, and even cassettes, yes cassettes. That made me smile of the memories that I had with those. The book selection evokes thought, and curiosity, while being in a calming environment. I went to a book club here. What a great idea! Irvington Vinyl & Book really helps the community and other local businesses. Final thought, I am delighted that I get to go here.Update 1 Year Later!Irvington Vinyl & Book is the only Bookstore I go to! From the wide variety of Chat Books, Wonderful Music playing when I entered, and the thoughtfulness of having of A very Cute Cat Walking around! I love I can shop in a safe place!
Fantastic record/book shop with a great, ever-growing selection. Staff is professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. One of the best things about the Irvington neighborhood.
I noticed this book store during the Irvington ghost tour and have been wanting to come check it out for awhile, finally got the chance to, and it’s a must visit if you enjoy both books and music. The space is two open rooms, the first room has a collection of well know books, children’s books, and magazines from local authors. There are also a few vintage dresses to chose from as well. You may see the cute bookstore cat, not sure of its name, but it’s a sweet cat that isn’t scarred of people. The second room has more books to chose from, they are sectioned off by just general authors, a science fiction and tarot section. If you are a vinyl lover, this is the place for you, there was a huge selection of records and cassettes. Couldn’t list all the music choices because there was just so many!Very reasonably priced! Friendly staff, I’ll be back again to shop
This is an awesome place; feels good to be in an actual book store instead of looking for books online!
Every community needs a neighborhood book store. While it doesnt typically carry the types of books Im into, I can easily see it serving the needs of most of the general public. Also has a cool music section. Love the curated staff/theme picks. Plus they have a cool roaming cat. For reference, half price is a four star in my opinion due to sheer volume and costs. Indy doesnt have what I would consider a five star.
The best book store in the city. I cant visit without picking up a new stack of books.
Very cool environment and great selection! also had a very cute cat
Hidden little gem of a place. Lots of great vinyl and cool atmosphere!
A well curated collection of books and vinyl with an extremely kind, helpful, and knowledgeable proprietress. The book selection runs the gamut of human experience. There is a wide selection of LGBTQ+ titles that can be difficult to find in the big box stores.I cannot more highly recommend you make a trip and explore this gem for yourself.
A very great environment with a good selection of records. Its also worth mentioning how adorable the kitten roaming around the store is.
Great selection of vinyls, cassettes, books, and even zines. The best owner. Highly recommend spending an hour or two in this cozy spot.
My most fav vinyl shop in Indy!!! i love the atmosphere and the staff is always so friendly. when I come in the staff treats me like a friend. the events hosted hereive been to have been so fun and had a great welcoming and kind vibe. this place seriously makes vinyl and book collecting all the more fun to me.
Went here a year ago or so on break and saw it in my recommendations recently... not impressed by the selection, staff seemed apathetic..but its whatever, theres other places to find good used vinyl.
A wonderful shop with a friendly staff and an owner who takes great pride in helping the community and those in need. I have found several incredibly rare albums that were priced fairly. When I’m in Irvington, I always try to stop in.
This is a fantastic shop with a great set of titles. The shop owner is regularly around, super friendly and will engage in good conversation. The space is cozy, queer-friendly and an excellent small business tucked in Irvington. Also(!) they take orders over phone or email and offer 15% off the sticker price for orders from their distributor. I plan on buying most of my books from here for the foreseeable future.
The owner is sweetheart and shes so helpful :) highly reccommend the place
Irvington Vinyl and Books is a great little boutique record and book store, where youll find a great vintage vibe and a small-ish but good selection of books and records. Its mostly used music, so come with potluck in mind. I love the randomness of it, and especially love the spiritual corner in back. Love the energy and the social consciousness of this shop.
I was looking for holiday books for my niece and Godchildren. The owner helped me find adorable books for the little ones. She even ordered me a book that they didnt currently have in stock. It arrived within 3 days. They have a great selection of childrens books and have books that highlight kids of all colors and backgrounds. Wonderful shop and selection. Great place for holiday gifts.
Great selection of records and books! Even better is the helpful, kind staff! Anyone with a creative side will find the shop a great place to expand their horizons too thanks to the wonderful Caliban co-op
Comfy feel, variety of books and records
Very awesome vibe.
This was a fun and unique store with all kinds of books and records. My favorite part of the store was the fluffy cat on the chair. Unfortunately they have no U2 records 😔
Great community business. Enjoy all they do and great clean record finds too!
Love this shop! Rad selection (and you can easily order what you want if it’s not there) in a delightful space.
It was great the owner was so nice and they had the coolest shop in town
Irvington vinyl and books has an astonishingly large collection of music and liturature for the size of the retail space. The music selection is comprehensive and eclectic. It even includes vinyl from local bands that were popular in the 80s (sloppy seconds, etc.) . The book selection is also worth browsing through, and includes a collection of occult books that one does not come across every day. The atmosphere is welcoming and homey, and has a cat or two . I highly recommend this store
Always walking out of here with a stack of gems. Great place to spend an afternoon, and a must-stop for the hardcore crate-diggers out there! Friendly staff and a really cute cat.
The lady was wonderful and very helpful. I will happily return.
Great little independent bookstore. Mostly used books with a few shelves of well curated new books, mostly new releases with a progressive/leftist focus. Nice selection of zines. Great ambiance.
This place is sooo aesthetically pleasing. The lady who works there is so artsy and cool ! They have Violet the shop cat, she is so friendly and lovely. They have awesome, cool, and artsy books and records ! ❤️ I bring my coffee and computer there and read some books. I bought a few of my ALL TIME FAVORITE books there! SO cute & ARTSY !‼️
Come for the great vinyl and books, stay for Voilet, the shop cat. Great ambiance, a local independent treasure!
This should be your first stop. The selection is huge. Make sure you give yourself some extra time. There are more stocked below. The owner is so welcoming, and enthusiastic about Indy. Through her not only did we get some great music and books, we also got a number of places to definitely check out. Need a record, book, local art, a friendly face, or pet therapy (🐈) Irvington Vinyl and Books is the place.
Great vinyl store. Its a mom and pop shop so its quite cozy. The prices are very fair and the employees are as helpful as they can be. Make sure to go down stairs for more deep track vinyls. Ive found a couple good Johnny cash vinyls down there.Lastly, I also travel all over the state and sometimes country for work. Compared to my experiences of other stores, this store is one of the best.
Excellent selection, super friendly and knowledgable: my favorite “Indypendent” bookstore in town!
Cool shop. Many used records to flip through. Very reasonably priced. The woman behind the counter (I’m assuming the owner) is very very nice. Very helpful. I will continue to visit this place.
Cute store with great books and a huge used vinyl selection. Super nice staff and the cutest floofy kitty named Violet. A great addition to Irvington!
Somehow filled with great used books and spacious enough to feel open. The space is so warm, and the staff is so welcoming. Theyve always been super accommodating whenever Ive wanted to order specific new books. And it makes for a lovely place to sit and read and talk to people. Its so much more than just a place to find records. This is the new heart of Irvington, our very own Room of Requirement. It was so needed. I love how its already becoming a community space for events/meetups. You can feel how grateful and committed the owners are to the community, and Im very grateful to them for saving a neighborhood landmark and expanding on it with such vibrant, thoughtful, genuine energy.
Great experience! I didnt get the name of the person who was working, but she was so nice and helpful! I will definitely be back to support this business.
When I 1st entered this store I wasnt impressed by the selection of vinyl. Then I discovered they had a basement full of vinyl treasures and hidden gems! The selection is the best for what i am looking for. They also have a record player in the basement so that you can test the vinyl. BRILLIANT! MUST GO TO VINYL SHOP
Remember all the things you loved about independent record and book stores? The unique selection? Running across something you can’t find anywhere else? The knowledgeable staff? The cool displays? They’re all back at Irvington Vinyl & Books. It’s the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon browsing for Vinyl and print treasures.
Place is great. They have a turntable set up so you can lists before you buy and discount bins.Got some great icp albums here.
Always a great Indy staple for the hottest books & the coolest records 😎
The best bookstore, music shop, and event venue in town. Period.
Great selections and great atmosphere. Dont forget to pet the shop cat
Cool vintage record and book store.
Amazing Staff and Amazing Items!
Go here to dig around and have an experience. They host events and group meetings, too. This is more a community space than a retail store, which I appreciate.
This is a great local business with friendly and welcoming staff.
Their vinyl is a little pricey. Can find some decent cassettes if you really look... Still fun to poke around. Liked the bookstore prices and options more!
Always good.
Quaint book store with a large offering of creative zines. Nice selection of records and very friendly staff.
Always a pleasure to stop by for a bit to chat with the shopkeep and pet the shop cat. I love the selection of books!! Im not a big vinyl collector but I am told the vinyl room is incredible!!
I really didnt dislike the place,, just wasnt to impressed by it,,,,it is nice but just not for me
Went to a poetry reading event they hosted. It was cool. I love how they are involved in the community and offer more than whats just on the shelves, although collection of books and records is pretty impressive for such a small store. It was very easy to find books I was interested in. I dont have a player for the vynal, but it kind of made me want to get one.
Are you looking for a wildly chilled place to browse through some records and books? Well, this is the place and go do that for sure. The times that I have came in, I am normally thrilled to see the collections the shop owner, has acquired and how generally passionate and friendly the staff is about the store. It has a very open, clean and comforting environment. Its nice and bright while being neatly organized into two separate big rooms. What is cool about Irvington Vinyl & Books is that the shop does a lot to get Indys art scene involved and its great for the community. This place has hosted several different events, such as local music shows, different workshops that generally include some kind of a skill and character building. If youre interested in any of those events, I definitely recommend following the store on Facebook so you can get more information about what is going on.I think over time, its going to be exciting to see where this store takes off, because I think it definitely offers a special unique niche compared to what other book and vinyl shops have to offer.
Always friendly, very helpful with ordering books not on shelve. Love the atmosphere!
People are nice. Good atmosphere. Lots of things to look through. Good selection and great quality.
Very nice folks and a wonderful warm environment. Thanks for doing what you do! Happy Birthday Blake!
Nice atmosphere
Always love to peruse the books and records. Then cut over to Hampton Design.
Really interesting selection of music and books, as well as a performance and community space. Nestled in a great little arts and entertainment district. I am really excited to see what this place will have to offer in the upcoming years!
A groovy place, cool Vinyls and Antiques and Comics. I found just the record for my dads funeral:) Good prices too
Really thoughtful collection of books and records. Good prices. Really happy with some zines I bought on their grand re-opening. Wish I could go more often!
The shop is organized and has a great energy! The owner is super helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend this being your vinyl and book spot in Indianapolis.
Very nice and clean place with friendly people.
Absolutely the best books and vinyl resource in Indianapolis. Events are thoughtfully curated and intimate. Elysia is a wonder!
Best record store on the east side great selection new and used
This should be the model for the used record store for the 21st Century. A performance space plus a new owner who has quickly become an important part of the larger neighborhood. Cannot rate it highly enough.
This is the only bookstore in Indy that has a good selection of poetry. It’s a good place. You should go there.
Nice Place to hang out! They have books, any much vinyl records, but no CDs. The folks that run the place are great to chat with, and they have events held there as well. When we want a physical book, we will order books thru them, instead of ordering online. Quaint places like this are getting harder to find!
Excellent space, wonderful selection of books, zines and records, and integral in supporting creators in the community. I love living nearby!
The original shop before the ownership change was a bit of a mess, but if you can navigate a record store it was pretty easy to find what you’re looking for, and they had a wide range of Genres and records. I popped in there the other day to check out the shop post ownership change, and I was shocked at how tidy it was. Excited to browse through the records, but there wasn’t a good selection. Not many 90s alt records, and there was 0 Nirvana albums available. I walked away with a Lemon Twigs record(granted, not many places carry them), but I would love to see the selection improve a bit. Will stop by in a bit to check up on their progress.
Great little shop! Excellent selection of albums and books!
Great staff, great atmosphere, and great mission. More than just a place to buy books and records, Irvington Vinyl and Books serves as a literary and cultural incubator for the east side. Hosting events like For Colored Girls Book Club and Queery: Radical Queer Book Club, IVB provides space for meetings of minds and fodder for conversations that are really pushing the needle forward in a state where liberated and radical thought are sorely needed. Proprietor Elysia is a culture-maker for Indy and were fortunate to have her.
Excellent selection of records and books, new and used. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. This place is an asset to the community.
Shame that they are planning to close at the end of the month. Awesome store.Edit: They found a new owner and the store is open again. I havent been back yet but I will be in there soon.
Love this place and they always have an awesome selection of vinyl.
Quaint vinyl and book shop. Very nice!
A very large variety of records, both new and old. I was glad to see some of the more unusual picture disks and colored records. Prices were pretty fair.
Long live the individual proprietor of things interesting, quirky, obscure, and ultimately, beautiful.
Dammmnnnn this place is tite!! Got a cool book for my Mom, a sweet record for my Pops, AND got my Tarot cards read (2019 isnt looking so hot for me, good thing I have this cool, eclectic, conveniently-located Oasis of the mind)Would give six stars if I could.
Great place
Great atmosphere and selection
Though the selection was great, the customer service I received was frankly ridiculous. I just so happened to pick out a record that didnt have a price tag for whatever reason. I figured no big deal Ill just ask the employee. This lady proceeded to tell me that records were not her specialty and would not sell me the record even after I stated I was more than happy to make an offer. Really? You cant make a sale because you dont know the price? I thought the point of a business was to make money... So I left annoyed with no intentions of ever returning.
