Staff there really took the time to show us the kayaks, let us sit in them, ask all our questions, and gave valuable information on all the different kinds of kayaks. World’s best customer service! Local outfitter that goes above and beyond to help customers get what they are looking for. It is one of my favorite places to shop in Broad Ripple. RM is locally owned and operated —and it shows.Here’s a picture of our awesome kayaks we purchased at RM.

Needed a new kayak rack for a new car and went in to Rusted Moon to purchase it. Little did I realize that they were going to do the install as well and that allowed me to wander Broad Ripple while they installed it for me. That was completely unexpected but greatly appreciated and its a big reason why Ill continue to purchase from then in the future.

Rusted Moon is amazing! I worked at a superb, small, local outfitter as a kid and Rusted Moon feels like an upgrade from that even. Ive never been impressed by other outfitters until I shopped at Rusted Moon. They have an amazing selection even in a small space and all of the staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They put on awesome sales so often too! They can help get you ready for any adventure, dressed nicely for anythingyou like to do outdoors. I love that they carry only quality brands that will last you forever and have excellent customer service if you do ever have any problems.

I purchased a kayak and Thule rack from Rusted Moon in early April; the owner was extremely helpful helping me choose the right kayak and rack for me. Ive had an inflatable for about a year and it was really the thought of loading on my SUV that held me back from getting a real kayak. But this Thule rack is perfect for me where I can side load it and then pop the rack onto my roof. Rusted Moon ordered all the parts needed to set up the rack correctly on my car and installed it all (for no extra charge no less) and showed me tricks of how to use it more easily. Definitely will shop here vs REI from now on!

This place is amazing. I wish I had started here with all my hiking needs. Ron was really helpful in showing me options and giving me background on the boots I was considering. Bob also stepped in to give me additional insight. All the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Everything here is fairly priced and the staff is really friendly. The store is small, but they pack a lot of stuff in there. We found some good information on canoe/kayak routes and picked up some backpacking gear.

These guys are amazing. Stopped by yesterday, hoping to find advice and expertise and they did not disappoint. I left with a pair of shoes, a pack, and a ton of information. Everyone in the store was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Aspen. She spent a ton of time with me, answering all my questions and helping me find exactly what I needed. They definitely earned my business.

Yesterday was my first experience with Rusted Moon Outfitters. What a great place. Steve and Jake were awesome and got the Yakima Skybox on. I couldnt be more pleased. I will recommend Rusted Moon and will shop there in the future.

My husband and I ran into a situation where we needed to buy a rain tarp immediately. We called Rusted Moon Outfitters 15 minutes before closing and asked if they had it in stock. When they said yes, we asked if they would stay open until we got there. They said yes. We arrived 5 minutes after closing. Not only did they stay open, they also answered all of our questions regarding the use of the rain tarp. Fifteen minutes later we left with the rain tarp, a shirt, 3 pairs of wool socks and 1 pair of shoes. The staff is knowledgeable, understanding and very helpful. We highly recommend Rusted Moon Outfitters.

Man where do I start...... probably with the amazing staff. These guys/gals are right there ready to help you with anything from loading your new paddle board on the roof of your car or getting you dialed in with a new pack for your backpacking trip across Isle Royale. The other great part about this independent shop is that they have the gear you actually would want to use, they aren’t just pumping the shop full of junk to make a buck. Stop in and check them out!!

Made a two+ hour trip to get a couple of kayaks, paddles, and PFDs. We called up there, told them basically what we were looking for, and were told we have a GREAT selection. When we get there, they had a couple of kayaks you could pick up about anywhere, and the ONLY kayak that looked like anything beyond a department store model seriously looked like a parts boat. I would give high stars just for the atmosphere, but only half a star due to the the staff.Also, my son told me we overheard one of the staff telling another customer that a particular paddle was carbon fiber. He handled it a bit later, and said there was no way it was carbon fiber. I normally wouldnt mention anything I personally didnt experience, but as he was pretty sure that guy was the one who told us of their great selection, I will make an exception.Absolutely will not be going back, which is a pity, as its a neat little shop (and it is a little shop).

Great experience shopping here for a new backpack for a trek! Wes was really helpful on the phone before I visited telling me what was in stock and in what sizes and what might be the best option for me, and Gabe was helpful in store getting me fitted and getting the hip belt molded to fit me. Prices were great too! I’ll be back to get more gear here. Such a cool shop in Indy if you’re into the outdoors!

I got my ski bindings mounted here but ended up gaining much more. The ski shop was extremely knowledgeable and gave me a lot of great advice, even as an expert skiier. I just returned from an intense ski trip in the Rockies and all my equipment held up perfectly. Also, the price is right. Please support local business and visit this shop!

Very well curated selection of stuff you probably dont need but should buy anyway because these people are so nice.

The style of the store was nice however the layout was not ideal for a normal person. The zig zag of clothes was hard to get through. The staff was very polite and the options of items was large, major plus. At first glance from the outside it’s rather hard to understand what they are however walking in its immediate: everything camp/outdoors.Overall would recommend shopping at this local shop as it is quite inside with far prices.

Great atmosphere with caring and knowledgeable staff. Came in discouraged with boots I thought were for sure wrong for me based off of another shops opinion. Ron was welcoming and spent at least an hour working with me to get the boots to fit perfectly and explained everything so I wasn’t left with questions. Couldn’t be more happy, my bank account is grateful and my timeline to get back on the slopes with my own set up was shortened. Will definitely be coming back when i’m ready to purchase more gear! These guys are absolutely awesome, amazing service, you can tell they care a lot about the customers. Came in to get my snowboard waxed, and they were able to get it done same day, and they did a really good job with it, definitely put a lot of care and effort into the job. Great people with lots of knowledge. Plenty of knowledge about the products they are selling. Just remember good things arent always cheap, you are buying quality products for years of use, not trash that will break on the first use.

Ron at Rusted Moon was awesome.....he really made my daughter feel comfortable in getting her boots to feel right. We walked in thinking the voots were completely wrong based on another ski shop nearby trying to sell us their new boots. In short, this place should be anyones first stop, and youll find it to be your last for all your hiking needs! I drove down from South Bend and Steve was able to help me get outfitted for the Appellation trail. From tops, bottoms, and layers, to sleeping bag and rain fly hammock cover, his experience was thanked, as was his patience as I spent nearly two hours at the store. The 2 1/2 hour drive was well worth it and I loved the experience. Cheers 🤙

IMO this is the only place in Indy to buy or tune ski gear. Expertise like you’d find in a colorado, but in our very own Broadripple village. For purchases, the prices are at or below those of the big box joints, but you’re supporting local. Don’t go to REI. Go to Rusted Moon. You’ll thank me. (Also, hats absolutely off to Ron and Jake for their great work and welcoming customer service).

We went in for hiking boots. They ask a lot of questions to learn about our hiking styles, the kind of trails we usually walk and what we were looking for in a boot before they ever started making suggestions.The young man who waited on me actually suggested a less expensive boot than I set out to buy because it met all my needs!No pressure and no over-selling. Great outdoors shop in Broad Ripple staff. My go to place for Darn Tough socks. Once you have a pair you dont want to wear anything else. There knowledge of products is amazing. Very personable and frendly staff. Highly recommend them. Ive been going to them for the past year. Great guys. custom ski boot fitting for 25$ I highly recommend if you are feeling tightness or pressure points.

I went there for the folding knives, which they have a very good selection of. They have a lot of benchmade, zt, and kershaw. But they hike their prices up like crazy, like over 20%. Go there and fidget around with the knives, find one that you like, then order it off blade hq for 50$ less.

I worked with Jax (spelling?) and Jake to find a new pair of hiking boots. The pair I originally went home with did not work, and they worked patiently to find a pair with which I was completely satisfied. I was impressed by the attention and patience that everyone in the store exhibited and I will be making the rest of my hiking/camping purchases here rather than at REI.

First visit was yesterday and I was impressed with the selection and staff.

The staff is very friendly and the quality of the gear is top notch. I went there looking for a mid range kayak and the chance to try out kayaks on the White River was invaluable and resulted in me preferring a different kayak than I originally thought. The prices were good, but I ended up buying the same kayak at REI because of the better return policy.

I wish there was a way to rate this store higher. I had a phenomenal experience here. They have a tremendous variety of quality goods and their staff treat you like family. Ive lived in Indy 4 years and I wish I had found them sooner.

The BEST selection of mid to high end knives Ive ever seen in one brick and mortar location along with the usual outdoor gear. The employees were super helpful in picking out some shoes to complement my Salewas for more daily use. In addition they made a recommendation on some smart wool socks and tossed in a pair to try. Its going to cost me a lot more money to switch over from plain cotton but it was an amazing piece of advice and very cool of them! Stop in and TALK to the employees. Theyre great people!

We bought a lot of our gear here for a 2 week backpacking trip to Patagonia. The staff were really excited to help us gear up for the trip. They gave us great advice, as to what to bring and what not to waste our time with. Always cool staff in there and great gear.

Stopped in one evening after dinner to drop off my skis for some servicing. To my surprise, I met a really nice guy named Jake. He said if I wanted to wait, he could wax my skis and perform a binding test, while I browse the store. While having a look around, I talked briefly with the other two employees. I ended up walking out with fresh skis and new gloves!The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable!

They were very friendly while I waited for my snowboard to get waxed. They also did a great job waxing my board. It was very fast out on the snow!
