I have been wanting to go to this place since last March! What a hidden gem for hand made African Drums and specialty instruments! They are works of Art hand crafted with fine wood and skins for a variety of amazing sounds. It is a true experience just to visit and tour this family owned and operated business in the heart of Inglewood. They are hands on, helpful and extremely kind. I high recommend to experience and purchase. They also support a local had made mask maker so I picked one up as well

It’s final destination home, Michigan will play at some amazing venues. Good customer service and good selections of drums.

I had a most unusual drum - it looked like a 4 section of a coconut tree trunk with a head on top. The head was split so the drum was useless. After finding Motherland, I sent the tree trunk to them and they did an absolutely beautiful job refinishing it and crafting a new head for it. Warning: it wasnt exactly cheap and they took a long time to do the job, but it came out beautifully and had a drum sound to it for the first time. I highly recommend them for unusual drum repairs and restoration.

Beautiful instruments hand crafted drums not only from West Africa, but north Africa,South America as well with batas and gorgeous wooden cajons and the best sounding djembes anywhere. Great place to visit, a lot of hand craft musical instruments, Congo drums, Bongos tambourine they even have classes to learn to play, also drum sessions pleasant environment, safe, clean, sanitized...prices are reasonable, if you love music this is a nice place to go.

What a cool unique store that you would never know exists. I was there this week for a drumming session and explored all the different drums around the shop. Huge selection and variety of hard to find percussion instruments.

Great drum circle - a lot of fun. Owner and his son are wonderful, do everything to make everyone feel welcome. There are drums for sale, for rent, repair service is available, too. If one cant pay the whole price for the item, theres a layaway option. Every day there are classes, events. Awesome!

It was my first time coming here, I came for a drum day camp for my daughter. Its easily missed if your driving down the street but once you get inside it doesnt seem that small. They have drum classes, they make drums there, and they have jam sessions! Even though the activity was for my daughter I couldnt help but to think that I would love to come back and take a few classes and be a part of a jam session😀

I went there to buy a shekere and found that Motherland is a wonderland- djembes, cowbells, koras, balafons, ngonis and more- they have drum circles and beautiful artwork and clothing- it hosts a vibrant community that is centered around African instruments and peppered with a world view - a gem in the wilderness that deserves to be known worldwide!

Wow! Such a find! Bought drum necklaces for each of my family’s children. Gave them out during the family reunion. They won’t take them off!

Pashyo Sarkin is a phenomenal drumming teacher. If you want to learn the art of african drumming, I reccomend this place.

I flew to Motherland Music from Salt Lake city, in order to pick out some handmade instruments. I had no idea what an incredible trip it would be. From the moment I walked into the shop I could feel that something special happens there. I’m so grateful I had an opportunity to experience a small piece of it, I took Malik’s djembe class, I joined a celebration for Kwanzaa, and met so many incredible people who gather at Motherland. What they have created is very unique, and it is a gift to the community.I’m so grateful for the time Dan, London and Diyoji spent helping me, answering questions and giving suggestions. Diyoji spent the entire morning on Sunday while the shop was empty helping me and answering all my questions. Those guys are so great.I also really appreciate their quality craftsmanship and fair prices. I think the beautiful rope tuned congas I bought, are as fine a conga drum that anyone could find across the globe. Absolutely beautiful look and sound.I’m so glad I found you guys. I know where I will be buying all my drums from now on! I look forward to coming there again, next time I’m in California.
