If you are looking to do any kind of rock retaining wall or rock steps, look no further than Olympic Rockeries. While our experience with Shinda and his crew can be summed up in three words: skill, efficiency, and responsiveness, for the sake of producing a qualified and thorough review, I’ll elaborate further…My husband and I purchased our home nearly three years ago knowing that the very sloped side and back yard were going to require some serious work. Our ultimate goal was to level out and re-grade nearly the entire perimeter of the house (there was a funky hill in the front yard too) in order to gain flat, accessible square footage. The current sloped yard was not only unsightly and unusable, but posed a real safety hazard for our two young kids who could easily fall over the existing rockery onto the street. We also had a really messed up and uneven driveway (so much so that my car would bottom out when exiting the garage), DIY retaining walls on either side of the driveway made out of cinder blocks (!!!), and cracked pebbled concrete stairs leading up to the front door. (Our wish list included fixing these things as well). From our very first meeting with Shinda he took our vision into consideration and told us exactly what was feasible and what was not. He gave us ideas and provided valuable insight without pushing us in any one direction. He made unique suggestions that enriched our project without racking up unnecessary costs. In fact, from the beginning, Shinda sold us only on what he could deliver. We were never surprised with the bills; all of the financial terms of the contract were clear and consistent. As for the actual work, well, it speaks for itself. We now have a completely flat front, side and back yard where our children can run and play without toppling over onto the street, a beautiful rock retaining wall surrounding our home, stone retaining walls on either side of the driveway, stone steps leading up to our front door, and a smooth driveway. Whereas before I would cringe driving up to our house, now I can hardly believe it’s the our yard. I never thought I’d beam with so much pride over rocks!Throughout the project, my husband and I had the chance to talk with Shinda and his crew on a daily basis. They are good people who take tremendous pride in what they do. We’ve come to trust Shinda’s opinion on other aspects of our yard improvement goals and will not hesitate to call on him for future work.To sum it up, if you are on the fence about who to hire, stop your search and go with Olympic Rockeries. You won’t regret it.
Olympic Rockeries & Construction recently completed a rock wall and alpine rock outcropping project for us. It was one of the largest projects on our property to date and we could not be more pleased with the results. The team at Olympic Rockeries & Construction were very responsive, reliable, experienced and took care of our property as if it was their own. We will not hesitate to have them back again and would strongly recommend them.
I am so pleased with the wonderful work of Olympic Rickeries. The storm we had last month took out a portion of a 80 foot retaining wall along the back side of my property. They went above and beyond what I was expecting, making sure the job was done correctly and would be safe for years to come. They were great at communicating what was to be done, when it would be started and completed. They were punctual and very professional. The end result is very attractive. It looks much better than the original. I can’t thank them enough for taking such care in restoring my rockery.
Theres a couple of themes you hear from other Olympic Rockeries reviews. 1. Shinda is da man. 2. Olympic took a good idea, and made it into a great reality. Ill start by saying - its true...Were in the homestretch of a whole garden do-over - part of the yard on a good slope that previously made it unusable, and were sick of fighting the PNW grass/moss war. We talked to about a dozen different hard and soft-scapers, starting out as complete newbies. We put together a fairly detailed what could good look like rubric over the last couple of years to give to vendors. Looking to build patios, retaining walls, steps, and focal-point stonework. Most vendors were average to poor - we wanted organic and flowing, they wanted to throw up cheap blockwork that looked like an angular WW1 Somme fortress. Shindas business approach is so different - think much nearer project partnership. First his advice was from an If it was my house perspective... Second, he introduced us to a range of great material choices, helped us dial-in our rubric and budget, walking us through stone-yards to find and select the right materials for our site, as well as introducing us to possible soft-scaping partners. His team worked with awesome equipment that enabled them to demo our whole site, construct/sculpt our patios and tiers, and skillfully place heavy steps, beautiful rocks, and stones walls with minimal impact to our site and neighbours. We typically had at least twice-daily great communication with his site-foreman Cy and our soft-scaping foreman, as they worked to translate plans into reality. The outcome was much better than I could have imagined. I’ll post pictures when we’re doneHighly recommended. Id work with him again in a heartbeat.
Fantastic -- our yard looks amazing, not only the owner but all of the workers were both friendly and professional, great communication, competitive prices. We highly recommend! I will attach a picture that includes how they changed an ugly weird slope into a nice terrace (love the steps!) while it was in progress and a finished retaining wall.
We hired Olympic Rockeries for a significant backyard project: 1> flatten a portion of a sloped backyard, 2> build a retaining wall to support it, 3> move and improve an existing stone stair case, 4> decommission septic tank and hook up to city sewer. Its a bit of a leap of faith hiring someone for a project this size; it was the first time we had done anything close to this magnitude. We could not be happier with the outcome. The space turned out looking aesthetically better than I had envisioned, and the flattened area larger (which was the main goal of the project).Shinda has solid vision, and the ability to carry it out. Id also like to compliment Brandon, who built out the wall and a significant portion of the project - both of these guys are fantastic. 5* across the board. Thank you!
I found Shindas company on google and was impressed with the reviews. I had a failing 75 foot retaining wall made of 30 year old rotting railroad ties. One bad year and Id have a mud slide from my property down a steep slope and on to Mt Park Blvd SW. Not a good situation. Shinda showed up quickly after my initial call, surveyed the work area and came up with a price that worked in our budget. It took about five days to remove/replace the old rotten wood with large boulders that will last long after Im gone.In the back of my mind I always wanted a water garden, pond, waterfall, fish plants and a deep end in which to plunge on hot summer days. Shinda works with a great pond company and they combined forces to artfully create the abstract vision I had for our yard. Colorful natural stones, tree trunks covered with green moss, ferns sticking out of cracks in boulders combined to create a gorgeous natural waterfall, 15x30 feet, and nearly 5 feet deep in one end.The crew is professional, well trained, very experienced operators with a real eye for pleasing unique results. They arrived early, worked late in all kinds of weather. After their efforts our yard looks like we have a natural waterfall crashing through and over rocks and under moss covered fallen trees. The final pond is about 5,000 gallons and can send 5 to 15k gallons per hour over the falls. These guys know what theyre doing and very efficient. I would highly recommend them.
Simply the best and most reliable rockery contractor you can find. Able to do almost any kind of rock wall, large or small. You will find them to be very professional and able to offer a prompt and accurate proposal right away. One of the well kept secret contractors used by landscape professionals everywhere in the region. Highly recommended!
We feel so fortunate to have had Olympic Rockeries build our retaining wall. Shinda was always responsive and his recommendations worked perfectly. Mike, Carpino, and Gill did incredible work in removing the old rockery in addition to chiseling and placing each rock of the new wall. It turned out great and we couldnt be more pleased -- thank you so much again!
Shinda is very experienced, knows his business in rockery, drainage, excavating, and design. Offers great pricing and is verymeticulous and dependable. Fabulous outcomes. Look no further! You got the best!
We had a longstanding drainage issue and the previous owners attempts to rectify were not successful. Olympic Rockeries installed an all-new shy acre site drainage system to collect and disperse groundwater and downspout runoff. After weathering the wettest spring in 120 years this year, I can happily say that our lot & crawlspace is dry and everything works as designed.Olympic worked around issues as needed and made sure we were 100% pleased with the work. Great company and professional crews, and dedicated to making sure they get it right the first time.I can recommend Olympic Rockeries without reservation and will call on them then next time we need any outdoor work.
Shinda and his team just finished rebuilding our retaining wall, which had slid last winter and was bulging in several areas between our property line and the neighbors home. From estimate to project completion his team was flawless. They arrived 30 minutes early, were friendly, and extremely professional. Our daughter (and us) had a blast watching how skillfully they worked the machinary! VERY impressed with this company and would highly recommend!
Olympic Rockeries does an incredible job and you should be more than confident in choosing them to complete your needed work. I think Shinda is a very honest person and what he tells you is what will happen. There was no changes or weird stuff... just a well done job exactly as planned. His crew works hard, they are courteous, keep things clean, and work safely. I will use them everytime I need work like this!
Thanks Shinda for helping us fix and repair our retaining wall. The new rockery is stunning!
Shinda did great work for us and was always timely and patient in responding to my questions and concerns. I look forward to calling him for future projects.
With any contractor, there will be points in the project where there are changes, unforeseen issues, and additional pick up items. The mark of a really good contractor is how well they listen to and collaborate with the customer on reaching resolutions. Shinda is extremely customer-focused and highly accountable for the work he and his team does. He was very diligent about working with us until all the issues were resolved to everyones satisfaction. We are very pleased with the work that Olympic Rockeries did on our residential hardscape project and would recommend them to anyone.
My goal was to create a level playing space for our children in our small backyard. A friend had recommended Olympic Rockeries after I received a staggering quote from another company. I saw that Olympic Rockeries had many positive reviews online so I gave a call. I had a rough idea of what we wanted- to maximize our space but still work around some existing trees for privacy and natural beauty. We had already called in a tree removal service to get rid of some stumps and small fruit trees to open the area up. Shinda walked the property with me and made several recommendations for what would blend aesthetically and what was doable. I was very excited to get started on the project right away. His quote for a rockery was significantly less than a retaining wall by a local landscape company. We made some changes to the scope of the project- added some stairs, changed the fill material to gravel, added a planting bed, etc. but Shinda was easy to work with and open to these modifications so that we could create a functional and beautiful space. Near the end of the work, one area was a little smaller than we had originally discussed and he made sure that it got fixed. He even sent photos of the progress while we were out of town. Shinda was a pleasure to work with. He even recommended some other specialists for plantings, artificial grass, and deck repair work that we need to finish the backyard. We have just completed the main rockery work and once we are able to get the deck posts rebuilt Shinda will come back for phase 2 of the work- to add crushed gravel and level the yard for the artificial grass. I got a little nervous when I saw all the big rocks coming in but once they were set up and the yard filled in- it looks great! I would not hesitate to contact Olympic Rockeries for any work you need done!
They build beautiful rockeries.
Great Retaining Wall Company.
