Love this Family operated store. There ALL so knowledgeable about ANYTHING music. They may be able to upgrade your jam by taking in trades and seem to offer Good Value in those trades. Music issues. Stop in and ask. They are very personable people.
I took my guitar(Taylor 224) in feeling scared because I really wanted my guitar to play the way it used to. The action had become high making it really difficult to play and effecting the sound. I brought it in and was met with kindness, professionalism, and a can do attitude that instantly put me at ease. Not only did he try to fix it immediately but after he explained it wouldn’t be simple he would have to call Taylor and have another person look at it he reassured me that it would get done in time for my next gig. I received a call a 2 days later and they had found the problem and had it to me a day after that.I am so happy with the service. The affordability of the service. If you need something guitar I highly recommend Ithaca Guitar works.
Chris, the owner, was incredibly helpful. He helped me fix my guitar. And even offered me some tips on how to care for it. He also was willing to sell me individual strings when he saw I was missing some. Lastly, he even sold me individual guitar picks instead of making me dish out more cash for a whole pack like guitar center would. Im only giving four stars, however z because Chris didnt tell me hed charge me $20 when he offered to help me with my guitar.
After 12 years of playing the same acoustic guitar, it felt a little...off... in ways I couldnt put my finger on. Didnt seem to ring the way it used to and the action was higher than I remembered.I almost bought a new guitar, but then decided to take it in for a set-up instead. The folks at IGW did a really nice job making it look, play, and sound like new. They found some little issues I never would have noticed that were impacting the tone and the action - and put the magic back in it. The joy of playing is back.I got really nice detailed notes from the guitar tech and the cost was super reasonable. If I buy another high end guitar this year, it wont be because mine isnt playing right - It will be because I want to go back and shop at IGW.
I have bought two Taylor guitars here. Very Helpful people. Great locally owned company..!!!
Amazing experience, got a fantastic used electric!
Best guitar store I have been in over 15 years of playing. I was shopping for a new electric guitar and their guitar experts were incredibly helpful. They explained the science behind why certain pickups sound a specific way, and functionally what this means for a guitars sound. They spent several hours over a few days helping me decide what I wanted. Their repairs are also very high quality and reasonably priced. Cant say enough good things about this local guitar store.
Great little guitar store have really nice guitars of good quality nice owners very helpful.
Very friendly, helpful & accommodating! Great selection of instruments, this place rocks! Got to try out this 1921 Gibson A4, a pleasure to try even though it wasnt the one for me. Wish I could play banjo, would have played the Vega, too! My friend got a nice little ukelele with great sound as well!
This place is local treasure. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. And they never condescend or make you feel dumb for asking questions. I walked away with an amazing Eastman guitar that I love more than any instrument I own, and I got a fantastic deal on it. I can’t recommend this place more highly. Really happy to see that they’re hanging on during these uncertain times. Support Ithaca small businesses and go there today!
Really good prices for what they have. The workers their are super nice and have a lot of Pride in their work. I cant recommend this store enough
I really love shopping here everyone is super helpful and they have a good variety of products to purchase
Love this place! Awesome selection of instruments. I trust them to be super safe with my mando 🤙
What a fun place to try out guitars. Worth the trip from the Rochester area, go for the store, and spend the day in beautiful Ithaca. It’s “Gorges”, as they say. A wide selection of guitars and other stringed instruments, new and previously enjoyed. They have a big city selection and knowledge, with small town friendliness. I bought my first Martin there, and a U-Bass for my wife.
I had my guitar appraised to day. The man who helped me was very knowledgeable and friendly and honest. He helped me understand what made guitars sound different and taught me more than when I entered his store. This is one of my favorite music stores to visit. Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for help in deciding what to buy
Everytime I take my d 35 here they take good care of it and do an awsome job on stringing my guitar!. Ashley usually works on it and its perfect when I leave. He is very knowledgeable about guitars and does great work! I highly recommend them!
Ive always shopped at this place. Really nice group of guys, two brothers and their uncle, I believe. Nevertheless, if you keep buying gear, the guys give away a free shirt and show you they actually about their business with you. I also had a problem with my guitar once, brought it down, and one of the staff fixed it the issue WITH NO COST!!! I bought gear so they can get their moneys worth in some way. Great guitars and gear, and these guys do care about the local music scene here in Ithaca. Theyll help you on achieving your goals and the sound youre after. Theyll let you try effects and such out. Really professional and friendly. Theres a reason why Ithaca Guitar Works is the greatest guitar store in Ithaca. When you get a chance, go there!!!!
I am a collector and travel all over the country visiting music shops. This one stands out as one of the best I’ve seen. Great selection of used and new guitars, wonderful staff and it feels like a real “mom and pop shop”. I can’t wait to return when I’m in the area.
Decent selection and prices. Very safe and conscious of safety.
I walk in there just to feel better...but I wound up buying a Stratocaster and an amp suited to my needs. Anyone want my Yamaha imitation and 10W amp? Online is where you buy guitars that may never get played. Ithaca Guitar works is more like a party where a friend introduces you to your next love. They really are low key and helpful people.
They sold me my first stringed instrument (a ukulele) two years ago. Ive gotten two more since, neither turned out as good as that first one.
Never had better and more knowledgeable service in my life. Nobody pushing a sale, but everyone was more than happy to help. These guys dont just know their inventory. They know the history behind it, and everything in between. Could not recommend this place enough. I wish I didnt live 6 hours away.
I love that this kind of place can still exist in Ithaca. Many other music businesses have gone out of business well guitarworks has endured. They are willing to match prices of other businesses that are online even. This is probably why theyve had my repeated business and why I keep going back.
If you want to buy a good guitar, Ithaca Guitar Works is the place to go!
These guys took my trade-ins for fair prices and the guitars they sold me are ... just awesome. Guys are super friendly, their website is up-to-date, and they stock a full line of Fender and Martin guitars. Love this place -- well worth the drive down from Syracuse.
Has changed over the years. Not as devoted to high end guitars. Too much overlap with guitar center and everyone else.
Terrific selection, usually okay staff, sometimes a wait but extremely knowledgeable
Amazingly awesome staff and service!I broke a tuner button on my mandolin and they went over and above searching out and finding a replacement for me!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Took my Martin in for a minor warranty repair. Drove an hour up to Ithaca to pick it up and discovered it wasnt repaired. ...wasted trip. We will see if they fix it on the second try.
These guys are serious musicians, but will still take the time to answer my uneducated questions. Ive known them for a long time, and theres nowhere Id rather send someone for their next instrument, accessory, or friendly atmosphere.
Really great little music store with tons of stock, managed by really nice people!
I cannot say enough good things. Chris was amazing. They had a great selection of new and used guitars and he took the time to play every single one my daughter had any interest in. He also showed us others in our price range and even played a few guitars over $2,000 just so she could get a feel for what sound she was looking for. In the end, we left with a beautiful Guild D-125 Mahogany guitar. It was the same price it is offered for on Amazon and other websites, plus he tuned it for us and will do so for free for the next 3 months. A very different experience from the other 2 stores we had been to. It is obvious Chris loves guitars and wants to share that love with his customers!
Ithacas rep as a music town is cemented by this absolutely wonderful store, full of stringed instruments for everybody from the beginner to the virtuoso. Amps and accessories and books, too. Always a great experience shopping there, perfectly pitched.
Im not a guitar player, but this establishment has been there for so long that if I came to the Dewitt Mall and it was gone, it would make me profoundly sad. Got two great tee shirts there when I visited!
I had a guitar set up done. The guitar sounds fantastic and plays just as I wanted it.
Great selection of new and used guitars, ukuleles, banjos, mandolin sand amplification. Ive never seen so many Taylors in one place. They had an awesome Martin D-18 golden era in a beautiful sunburst. They also had a sweet tele deluxe thinline that sounded as good as it looked. They also do lots of warranty repair work. The staff is super informative and friendly and make you feel welcome.
Neat little shop. If I lived locally Im sure it would be a go-to place.
The inventory matched what was advertised online. A great selection of quality instruments in a nice location. The service and after sale care is great. Highly recommended.
Ash & Chris are awesome. Great customer service, great inventory. Bought 6 guitars from them, they do good business. Prices are fair, especially for the quality.
Wall to wall over priced guitars. They been around forever. Must be doing something right. Just unsure what it is?
Great selection of stringed instruments, books, accessories. Recently had a guitar repair done there, excellent work, and done very quickly. Very nice people to deal with.
Great selection, really reasonable prices, some real hidden gems in there too!
Cool, old school guitar shop with something for every player
Very knowlegable despite a little misscomunication in the beginning. But looking forward to working with you on the Gibson. Thank You, Dan and Sharon
Great store. Excellent custormer service. Prices are competitive. You should shop here!
Great service with tons of guitars to look at.
Absolutely the best in Ithaca. I love the service and the sincerity. These guys are a real class act.
Great proffessional folks to deal with. Huge selection as well.
Fantastic guitar store with great selection and awesome staff.
Great customer service and buying experience. Very informative sales staff.
BEST guitar store in Tompkins county...
Expert service from very capable luthiers with friendly, helpful advice for aspiring musicians, as well as a tremendous selection of instruments.
This is a great shop: terrific selection of guitars, other instruments, and accessories in stock; friendly, knowledgable staff; fair pricing.
This place is as legit as it gets. Some killer finds in here.
I took in my guitar for a setup and fret dress because the east coast moisture modified the neck structure so a few frets were buzzing. The initial ETA was 3 to 4 days. I got it back 13 days later.During the process, the front paint was damaged. To attempt a fix, the luthier buffed the entire front of my guitar so it has a gloss finish now (it used to be matte). The matte finish can still be seen around the pickup and bridge holes, giving a faded effect. Not good. Sloppy.Further, the set up and fret dress left many frets still buzzing, and my action is about 2.5 times higher than it was initially. That, and I was charged $30 extra because it took them longer than expected.I will not bring a guitar back here ever again. The luthier would not return my calls, and was in the shop randomly for maybe 3 to 4 hours a day. The shop attendants handled my requests as if they had a lot of experience with this luthiers service habits.I cant speak to the other services this place offers. Maybe it is a good shop for lessons or purchasing equipment, I really dont know. But the luthier is sloppy and slow.
Great selection of Fender guitsrs.
Service was attentive, large inventory.
Kind and courteous staff. Will return to buy!
Overall great, knowledgable nice staff with great products
