Dont let the huge stacks of books intimidate you, its actually very well organized and has a wider selection than the whole 2 other book stores on the island. While I usually have trouble finding something to read, I had to be careful not to walk out with the whole literature section 😂 for sure Ill be back

A huge favorite of locals and tourists alike. We can always find a gem of a used book here, either something we have been searching for or a new found treasure. Well stocked, categorized and a friendly helpful staff. If you are a reader of any genre, highly recommended.

Since this pandemic started annoying us, I really miss the time in this book store, Bookends. Now they are open!! Who said books will disappear? Never! Why dont you stop by here. I am sure you will find some interesting books, new and old. If you cannot, simply ask at the counter. They are very helpful! Just relax and enjoy searching your book(s).

Love this bookstore and take my girls there whenever I can but getting too much clutter, stuff kept falling down wherever I tried to pick up a book!

Nice variety of new and used books. The price is a little high as I noticed same books on sale at Target. They have any book your looking for under the 🌞 sun....nice employees. Great selection of Hawaiian books and you are able to exchange or get store credit on any item within 30 days Hassel free....

The most knowledgeable staff I have ever met at any book store. My mom and I have been going for more years than I can remember and she is on a first name basis with the staff even though she only goes twice a year when on vacation to the island. Best book storeEVER and it’s the staff that makes the difference. They find all the hidden gems in the massive stacks of books! A must visit for all book worms if you are on the island!

Terrific selection and prices. They could really use more space (gets a little too cozy with more than about five other customers), but the best place to buy books on Oahu.

I love the look since I love bookstores but I didnt know the organization of it. Haha. I also wish there were maybe journals that I could purchase here but I know thats not necessarily a bookstore thing.

Its a staple of old Kailua and hopefully it will be for many more decades. If youre a local, buy local here. If youre a tourist, buy your beach book here. Its the kind of neighborhood place where you can call in to request a book ordered.

Great Indy bookstore in Kailua. It’s sad that the tourists don’t go in there because there is a lot of great readings on Hawaii. It is a full run bookstore so you will find all categories and genres of books of your choice. I have had some great hauls from here so if you’re looking for something special check them out.

Thos place has books for everyone. Knowledgeable friendly staff, fair prices and locally owned. So happy it is close to home. Keep it up !!!!

JULY 2021A little over a year later and Im still swinging by this place, Im so glad theyre open again! I did find some vintage and used books at really good prices, but the newer books are sticker price. Id rather support a local bookshop though and I always hear them ordering or finding out of print books for customers, which is nice. Take my money!JAN 2020I spend money every time I come here! I love this place!! Its mostly a used book store. But it has some new books that are best sellers. The two gentlemen who were working on the day my wife and I was there seem to know their stuff. They knew about their inventory, and about the books! And there are lots of books! A good used book store is a great place to spend a couple of hours if you have the time... If you like books, I would highly recommend this place.

Book stores are dwindling on the island and this stands strong. From modern to vintage books this store has what you need and most likely more. This is a bigger store inside then it looks outside and it has book in every genre. Parking may be a little difficult during peek times. I went in looking for a new release book however it was sold out. No surprise really I should have went earlier. Instead I left with 3 gently used books for under $20.00. Good little store.

There are a lot of books in this little store. Many of the prices seem to be the same as the standard book or a bit less. I was expecting more barging books. Good selection for a small store.

Always enjoy rummaging through shelves of old books. They had new books as well. They had a good assortment of topics and the staff were helpful and knew where books were if you were looking for something specific. Lots of books on Hawaiis history and traditions. Also had a large section of childrens books and games/activities. It was a fun shop to spend time in.

Bookends is one of the few remaining locally owned book stores on oahu. New and used books to choose from with a huge selection. Support a local business because this place is awesome and will not disappoint. A true reading enthusiast will appreciate this shop.

Nothing beats an old fashioned book store...something that is essentially dead nowadays. This one is cramped, but well organized and cozy. I love it and would definitely come back to support a local business like this.

Very nice bookstore. Lots crammed in there. They do new and used but it looks like plenty of new stuff. Great Hawaiian stuff (like language books and wildlife identification books). Also found some fun stuff in their Hawaiian literature section

Yes, its a small book store that offers a large variety of different books. This is the kind of store you want in your local neighborhood. The workers are all very helpful and will do their best to get books in for you if they dont have them on the shelves. Great place to learn something new.

Refreshing to find a small mom and pop bookstore instead of the omnipresent big box bookstores. Its quaint but the shelves spill into the floor with books. The staff is friendly and helpful and I found just what I was looking for and then some. Score one for the windward side!

Really neat store! New books and used! Ive never been in a store like that. Books are in categories but new, used and vintage books all together. They have Melissa and Doug toys, kids games and educational toys. You have to really look at everything or you might miss something awesome! Lots of gifts. I love the feel of the store, jam packed with goodies!

They didnt have what I was looking for, but they have great customer service. For a small store, they have so much to browse through. So glad theyve survived the bookstore zapping thats going through our state/country. I love a good bookstore. Sadly, they are the only one on the windward side.

Difficult to look around with books stacked. Prices pretty high on used books. They sell new books at cover price. Normally leave a book shop with more than 20 books. Only bought one here. The employees were nice.

Love Bookends! Disregard complaints of books being stacked up (if you want Borders, just go to Borders). This is a used book store and that is part of its charm. If you want something specific, ask and the very knowledgeable staff will help you find it. If it isnt in stock they will order it for you.They have an amazing selection of local and Polynesian history, plus a ton of odd finds you just wont get elsewhere.

This is a favorite stop for books. They have all kinds of books for all types of readers. Youre bound to find something you will enjoy. They have a great selection of hard-to-find and out of prine books too. They also have an excellent selection of Hawaii-centric books featuring the local culture and stories for adults and kids.

There is a magic quality to this bookstore, filled with unique books that found me at just the right point to inspire. I personally love the stacks of books everywhere, it gives the shop a relaxed feel and adds a treasure hunt quality to the experience. When I lived in Waimanalo it was a favorite routine of mine to come into Kailua, peruse and choose a new-to-me used book and skip over to Morning brew to read. Missing this sweet place today!

I visited this book store during a intense downpour. Its a very small cute little shop, with friendly staff. I really enjoy small book stores compared to large chain stores. You could tell the employees here were true bookworms with their personal recommendations, and multiple stacks of books on the floor that were still waiting to be shelved. The staff was very friendly and didnt pressure us into purchasing anything, but we did anyways.

I like to support local businesses, so Ill research books on Amazon and then shop for them at Bookends with 50% success rate. However, the real joy of hunting for a specific book are the hidden treasures you find as you expect in a used bookstore. It is one of Kailuas gems.

I love this bookstore, could have spent hours, but with kidos in tow that was not happening. Reminds me of my childhood bookstore that I spent a lot of time in- sitting on the floor, reading a bit to get an idea of what my allowance was going to go to.

A five-star bookstore! Bookends has never disappointed me. If I want a book, they probably have it - or will get it for me - no matter how new or old, how popular or how esoteric. And when my bookshelves at home are full, Bookends will happily take a bag of books for their growing stock of well-loved used books selling at a nice discount. Sometimes I donate, but I can also make an appointment and meet with owner Pat to agree on a price. Frequent customers keep a punch card at the store as a record of purchases that will earn them store credit. There is a marvelous collection of childrens books and the best of books about all sorts of things Hawaiian. Just look at those pictures! Books everywhere. At Bookends youll find both books and people worth knowing.

You could go in here not trying to buy anything and come out with at least 5 interesting books. A wide selection of oddities and rare finds. I love this store.

Its a local bookstore still open for business in 2019, so its automatically a gem, but as a bonus, this place is actually pretty well organized, has a good amount of seating, and the employees dont bother you while you are browsing.

They have a very library-like feel to them. If you are interested in a book, you can just stand or sit on one of the stools reading it without fear of someone coming up to you and telling you to purchase the book first. It is filled to the ceiling with books, which I find is really fun to explore. Also, since it is the last bookstore in Kailua (due to eBooks), it has an extra novelty charm.

Could spend all day in a comfy chair readjng their vast selection of new and classic titles.

I called before going to the store to see if they had a book in stock. and they did! right away, they offered to put it on hold for me so that when I get there, all I have to do is pay. awesome!BUT THEN... after I get there and pay for it, they went the extra mileS (not just one mile lol) to wrap it for me! 😱😍 it didnt take long AND it looked SOOOO nice!!! They said its free but I offered them $5 and took $1.THANK YOU!!!!!!!
