We rented a campervan for 4 days with no issues. All was ready and prepared for us. It came up with everything we needed for cruising maui. We got useful information where to go and where not too. It was simple and quick and we loved it! :)Only two things were a bit dissapointed - the bed futon was very thin and it was like sleep on the board but we do not mind that much and second thing - AUX - it would be really nice to have that piece of cable there because otherwise you will have no music.
I dont even know what this place is..but 5 stars !!
These guys were great! Im a commercial fisherman in Alaska and have a lot of boating experience. The information and checkout procedures were simple, professional and very well organized for facilitating this boat rental. Not knowing the waters of Maui in great detail, the website and tutorial videos were all excellent. I was very impressed with the effort put in by this small family business. Their three boat fleet of 32ft Glacier Bay catamarans were perfect for the type of adventuring my friends and I were looking to do while visiting Maui. This is better than any charter service I have experienced and would recommend to anyone who has some decent boating experience. The company owners had to go through a lot to be able to provide this service while still satisfying all USGC and state park regs and insurance. Bravo!
I rented the camping equipped Honda Element for the weekend, and had an amazing time driving and camping around the island! If you want to see the most of Maui, this is the way to do it! I didnt give the full 5 stars only because the car needs to have a couple things fixed (drivers side door doesnt lock from outside, have to lock it from inside and crawl across to passenger side to get out; and I couldnt get the rooftop tent to work properly). Otherwise, this was an outstanding operation and I will definitely be using Aloha Campers again if/when I return to Maui!!
**Warning** this is NOT a 5 star resort alternative! Its a Maui adventure to see the Island on your own terms.. Two weeks in a Westy was definitely an adventure! The vehicles are better than you would expect for being 30+ years old and the aloha in Aloha Campers is felt. Highly recommended for those of you that want to get off the beaten path :)
Great experience renting a boat from Aloha. Great communication, easy process and well maintained equipment. Would recommend to anyone!
Traveled in May 2016I was looking for weeks to find the best deal for a Camper. Have traveled around Australia in a Camper was a great and very cheap way of traveling.I wanted to use the exact same approach on Maui and safe money by having your home with you at all times. Its clearly not a resort type of trip and more an adventure. A very great alternative if you feel close to nature. We got advised that you have to use Campgrounds and buy permits in order to camp. I can confirm that you will be fine if you keep moving. We have not paid for a single night and woke up every morining in front of beautiful beaches. Its just as easy if you keep moving. We got woken up by police once in Hana but that was the only time and after explaining, that we were coming in very late at night and didnt really know where to go, they let us stay and sleep there. The camper we have been given was great. No issues at all and the team at Aloha Campers was very helpful. Thanks again.
So glad we decided to go with Aloha outdoors, they really went above and beyond to make our experience of Maui and the Hawaiian culture amazing. We already have our friends signing up for next year. Mahalo Brandon and crew. Tiffany Wagner, BC Canada
We booked a boat rental in the morning for a 1030am departure. Our booking went through online, we paid and were sent a confirmation and forms to fill out. We were emailed all the info of where to meet. We drove to the meeting location and waited 40 minutes with no sign of anyone. We began trying to call and had a hard time getting through. Nearly half hour after our 1030 departure time we finally got through and we were told they needed 24 hours of notice for boat rental bookings. Absolutely nothing mentioned this when we booked. This was very dissapointing as it wasted half a day of our vacation.
We rented a van for the week. Everything we could think of was included not to mention in excellent condition! We locked the keys in the van by accident while getting supplies at Walmart. Ooh!! The guys were pronto in bringing us a spare. Super service! We didnt see everything due to time and weather but Camp Olowalu was soooooo nice! Best snorkel time! Swam w turtles! Beautiful fish all over. Saw whales right from the shore. Very clean! The staff was great. Dont hesitate to rent a van from Aloha Outdoors and camp. Were able to stay in a high end resort but choose to camp. It was so much fun! BTW go see the lavender farm and Drive to Hana. If you want to rent a boat Aloha Outdoors offers boats as well. Aloha!Ron and Brenda
Highly recommend renting a van and camping maui! This is a great company, we will rent again for sure.
Careful with this company. They posted personally identifiable information (against Google guidelines) on my previous review along with a dishonest statement. I had to delete my review (theres no reporting function), which artificially inflates their rating. Due to that Ive changed from two stars to one star.Poor quality campervan.Terrible bed, like sleeping on hardwood (and we camp a lot, our expectations are reasonable). We both got bruised hips. Unforgivable.Engine light was on and we went through over half a tank of gas in 70 miles. In the camping equipment some things (pillow case torch, water) were either broken or missing. They were not aware we were picking up the car, even though we arrived at the designated time. The car central locking system wasnt working consistently and the key remote doesnt work.I wouldnt recommend them, especially after how they respond to customers. We:Booked the campervan online months before the tripArrived for pickup at the designated timeDropped the car back on the designated dayHave a lot of experience campingThey didnt hear from or speak to us between pickup and drop off.We only chose to share our experience with them after they sent an email to us requesting feedback.Turns out they only want positive feedback it seems.--------------Edit after their response below: Again they post a misleading response. We didnt want nor ask for a refund. We werent going to communicate with them at all, we just figured wed been tricked by the fancy website and its just one of those things companies do in tourist areas. They then asked us for feedback! So then we gave it. Rather than them accepting that theyd delivered a poor experience, they continually blame us as if we are at fault for expecting to receive the service they advertise. Were the wrong customer with wrong expectations. Weve been open and honest about our experience. Based on their responses to us:If youre expecting- a bed rather than a hard space that you can technically lay on- a van with normal fuel consumption- a torch- a pillow case- water- a normal pickup process- a company which does what it says and accepts responsibility when it doesntYou are not their sort of customer, find someone else.--------------
First off, I have to say what a unique expierence traveling across Maui with the windows down and the stereo playing in an old Westy us! You get a more local expierence. We were mistaken for locals almost everywhere we stopped when rolling up in our sweet ride. Also you get the freedom to stay where you want and not to be hustled with schedules and end destinations. Brandon was great! Gave tailored recomendations of activities and locations to visit based on our vacation goals. Also if you want to go up to the Summit, they have a seperate CRV that you can take up! I will say, it isnt a 5 stay hotel, but the expierence is totally unique with the old Westys personality characteristics! If you want a cost effective and enjoyable way to explore Maui, this is the way to do it!
The pros:- nice concept- explore the island differently- decent price if you consider its a car and a home (but its not exactly a 5 star hotel room, dont get your expectations too high)- no mechanical problem at all. The van ran strong for its age.- if you like driving, the 4 speed manual is the way to go- stove worked well.- well suppliedThe cons:- you cant take the van to the summit of haleakala. Wich means you cant camp there unless you have another car. Wich was sad because its one of the most interesting campground (probably the main point of interest on the island actually). On the website the FAQ gives yous a list of campgrounds you can go to but it is not exhaustive. And I found no where that specify that you cant go to the top of haleakala. Its only when we got the van that we were informed. So we had to rent another car for our last day just to be able to do that activity. We brought the van back a day earlier since we had another car anyways but the owner refused to issue a refund because of the minimum 3 days rental policy (we ended up having the van only 2 days), even though when I called to say I would come back earlier, the week end employee told me on the phone that they received my email and that everything was ok and my refund would be processed the next business day. Never saw that money again.- some utensils and pot were dirty from previous users.- we only hade one pillow case. Not that I care but check your inventory before you leave town if thats the kind of thing that bothers you.- some minor miscellaneous issues like the passenger door was very hard to open, we had to play a bit with the key in the gas tank door to get it open, etc. For me it goes with the old car experience but for some it might be annoying.- the speakers were really bad. Couldnt really listen to music because of the noise they make if you try to rise the volume a bit. For me this was a bummer.- no cup holder- bad/old exhaust. Smells gas inside as soon as you stop (ex: red light)- driving this thing is not easy. You have to like it. Especially the manual one. I cant talk for the automatic.
You should really rethink your options if your think about renting a westfalia at this company. The camper we used was dirty, especially kitchen tools, and not sufficiently equiped. Some important things, like a pillow case, were missing. The radio was not working. The owner arrived late, rushed the informations and was rude. The staff members and him didnt seem to communicate and contradicted eachother. In brief, My own personnal experience was very negative. This company is dishonnest and unprifessionnal.
My wife and I rented a automatic VW for 4 days and had a blast. The staff was very helpfully, friendly and provided us with everything we needed for our trip (blanket, pillows, first aid kit, maui books, ect...) The van was in decent shape and had some flaws but overall was great! The vehicles are older so we didnt expect pristine condition but thought they could of been maintained better mechanically and cosmetically. The van stalled out on me twice after initial starts but just needed to warm up, slight leak in the cab during heavy rains but nothing major, locks and doors could use grease or lube (had a rough time getting the key to turn without thinking I would break it), brakes seemed very slow to respond (bad) and one of our gas burners didnt work but we had two :). I would recommend them to any one wanting a taste of the van life, although a cheaper rate would seem fair due to poor vehicle condition. We camped in Waianapanapa State Park, which was cheap, great location and had facilities.
You do not want to travel in 5 stars but its definitely the best way to travel. The owner and his spouse are very available for questions as well as directing us to the sites of campsites, attractions and surf / snorkeling spots. The place of the pick up is also easy to access by public transport. We rented a West manual transmission and we had a lot of fun either because we had the hottest van or because we were not sure we could climb the odds during the Hana Road. Both beds are very comfortable, the stove works very well and there is enough space for 4 adults traveling with a backpack and a day bag!DISADVANTAGE # 1: The camping net is not waterproof (normal, in 1988 there was nothing waterproof): be sure to ask for a tarpaulin with bungee to protect the camp during the night.DISADVANTY # 2: West speakers are pretty basic and grind a lot; bring a speaker !!Definitely the most perfect trip !!! : D
