Went from video game hobby to a Dad hobby of wood working. I needed some nice wood for wood turning and Cook Woods was incredible. The variety they have is amazing. I ordered a lot but one of the things was the maple burl cut off box. I left a note that said mostly live edge and they delivered! Love the wood I got. Every one of my customers so far compliment the exotic wood as much as the resin. My only suggestion is to wait for their sales. They offer them almost daily on all sorts of stuff so just be patient and wait for the right one. Seriously a great place for a large variety of wood. No local shop will have their variety.

This is the place to go when you need that “perfect” piece of wood. Yes, the wood is pricey but you get what you pay for. After it arrives and perhaps you didn’t get what you expected, just ship it back. Their customer service is exceptional. I’ve been buying wood from these folks for many, many years. My only regret is that you can’t get a “tree” - say you need 100 bf ft of something that has to match in color and grain like for a bedroom set You’d like all those pieces from the same tree. Weve made a couple purchases from Cook Woods and for the most part, what you see is what you get, which we love. Theres really no unexpected surprises. The maple burls and claro walnut weve purchased have all been gorgeous and exactly as described on the website.The only downside weve had is with the kiln dried maple burl bargain box that we purchased for $37.99. Most pieces were small and really unusable that quite honestly, I wouldve trashed if they were in my shop. Id say stay away from the boxes of random stuff where you dont know what youre buying, but the rest is as described.

I purchased some jelutong for carving and was very happy with the experience. The wood was clear and was packaged very well. This is a softer wood but there were no dents or marks from shipping. Jelutong is hard to find so I was happy to get some for a good price.

I like that the take the time to post pix of the actual item you are buying. Make it less likely that you will get something not to your liking. I like when they also post latin name and other info about the species although lately the latin is missing more often. It helps to know what you are getting because so many woods have local names or generic names applied to several species. I would recommend that they do that. Otherwise I have been very happy with what I have received from them.
