Long time coming, but I didnt want to review until I was done putting my engine back together.First of all, anyone who gives them a bad review is an idiot. Ask for the real story, many times people bring things to machine shops and expect that the machine shop will magically put their car back together with psychic powers. You need to know what youre doing, guys. Not the shops fault you cant put an engine back together correctly.These guys did an excellent job with my 1964 ford v8. I didnt have a ton of money to dump into my truck, but it has sentimental value through the roof, and they treated me and it as such. Several times along the way they had chances to charge me extra, never once did Roy and his staff do that. They were honest and kept me in the loop the whole way.The workmanship is top notch, and they saved me money every step of the way. One of the lands under a valve seat was cracked; another machine shop wouldve charged me thousands to weld the cast iron head. Roy and his staff pinned out the crack and installed a larger valve seat, saving me money and time. Cant recommend these guys enough. 10 stars if I could give them. Thanks again Roy.

Worked with Custom Crank several times now. They do a great job with all of the machining work and assembly Ive had them perform. Can source most parts faster and cheaper than I can. They are incredibly fast and are fair in pricing.I highly recommend Custom Crank to pros and DIYer alike.

DONT WALK, RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!I took my engine block here. The owner called me a couple weeks later and filled me in on their progress. He told me hed get in touch with me at the end of the week and it should be done. The job was to hone the block and change the freeze plugs. The guy calls me a week later and leaves me a voicemail saying hes gonna scrap my block if I dont come and get it! I never even got a call back, and now youre gonna scrap my block!? Needless to say I went and got it. When I got it home, the honing was done, but the freeze plugs were never put back in, and the crappy bag they had it in had punctured so now my coolant jackets are surface rusted. To top it all off the cylinders are rusted (not stained as he told me on the first phone conversation) so I will have to get it bored over. I may have been an isolated incident since they seemed busy, but I just wanted better for my project car.

If youre in, or near, the Knoxville area i wouldnt recommend anyone but Custom Crankshaft. Ive been doing business with them since 2008, and never any disappointments. Very friendly service and fast turn around and very reasonably priced.

My son bought a set of 6.0 heads from them and had them change valve springs the engine run 5 min and dropped a valve damaging a piston. The owner claimed no responsibility and went as far as to say a dealer wouldnt even warranty their heads and progressive damage! Being a dealer mechanic for several years i can tell you thats a lie. Hes not professional and is a crook.

Would strongly recommend another engine builder! Brought Roy my l92 Yukon motor for rebuild. During reassembly, the camshaft phaser was either damaged or installed incorrectly. The result was incorrect timing and no compression. It took me having the vehicle towed to gmc to diagnose this. Once the problem was understood, my vehicle sat again at custom crankshaft for over a month before anything was done about it. When it was fixed, I showed up to find a running engine, but one that had no oil pressure. Was told to take the vehicle and that custom crankshaft was done working on it. I had vehicle once again towed this time to a quality engine builder. Paid another 1500 to have engine removed and inspected. Found that custom crankshaft had failed to install the 8 o-rings under valley cover during reassembly. Complete negligence. Even worse was the complete unwillingness to correct their mistakes. Do yourself a favor. Go to Athens cylinder head and engine repair. You will receive professional service from professional people. Roy is a joke

Great place

Well I want to start with the review before mine, is horribly innacurate.I walked in for the 1st time to drop off a head that needed a 16 valve job with 8 guides. Not only could they source valves and guides cheaper but they qouted me a 24-48 hr turn around which is nuts. You cant even get a reman shipped in that quick.To make it even more stellar, he had a complete head already built that he was able to sale me and repair mine later since he was stuck with the repaired head from a customer who never picked it up. (Which goes to show Roy wouldnt have scrapped that guys block)I left out in about 20 minutes.. walked in with a bad head and out with a good one.I will recommend Custom Crankshaft to anyone. Prior to using them I had used one other shop not far from them that does good work too but not that quick and not that personable in my opinion!
