Rented a SL6 Tarmac for Haleakala. Service was great and quick. Bike was in great shape and worked perfectly. Enjoyed the beautiful older race bikes on display. The ride up Haleakala was perfect thanks to help from West Maui Cycles! Check out their blog for great tips on riding Haleakala. Thanks guys!
Short: Fantastic service, great rental bike, friendly and helpful staff.Longer: I visited Maui in June 2021, and one of the activities I planned was a bike ride up Haleakala. Based on personal recommendation, I booked a bike from West Maui Cycles for 3 days (one day to pick up, one day to ride, one day to return). When I came to pick the bike up, helpful staff member told me I am doing it all wrong, and that I should get a cheaper bike with better climbing gearing (win #1). Further, they said I should just pick it up at the end of my day 1, ride on day 2 and return at opening time on day 3, because they have a Haleakala Special pricing for that (one day + a reasonable late return fee) - win #2. Finally, they inquired as to my nutrition plan, and advised me it was not enough, and that I should bring (a lot) more food than I planned (win #3).IF you are planning to ride Haleakala:- Rent from West Maui Cycles- Tell them you are doing it, and listen to the advice- Their website is INCREDIBLY informativeBike:I ended up with their Specialized Roubaix Sport, with Shimano 105 groupset and 50-34 / 11-34 gearing, which was a fantastic machine for the climb. Provided with the bike were industrial-looking brake pads (you will need these), and saddle-bag with two tubes, two CO2 cartridges, inflator and two allen keys (for wheels and saddle). Bike did not exhibit a single mechanical flaw - perfect shifting, perfect braking, no squeaks, no squeals, no creakes.Service:Shop installed the pedals I brought, adjusted the fit based on my needs (saddle height, really) and several Garmin mounts for bike computer, lights and radar. As I mentioned before, they provided good advice for the day of the climb, and were very receptive to minor feedback I had post-ride.Would I recommend them for bike rental: ABSOLUTELY!Would I rent from them again: ABSOLUTELY!Should you? ABSOLUTELY!
Another five start review for this great LBS. Rented a Roubaix for the West Maui Loop. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Had such a great time I came back two days later to rent for the Road to Hana. Got the same bike as two days previous but it looked brand new -- not only do they clean the bikes they wipe the tires down. Their website is also extremely informative regarding rides on the Island. Highly recommended!
This is a great shop. These folks have been taking great care of me for many years every time I visit Maui.
Favorite bike store on all of Maui. Free air and water! Wish they had bike shorts with the store logo on em. Id buy two pair. The 15-year old pair I have are just now showing their age. 👍
Fair price. Friendly people all around nice experience
We rented road bikes from this place while on vacation in Maui. The bikes are very high quality. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Maui.
Used to be my favorite bike shop. Charged me three separate times for the one tire change, even though they acknowledged they had missed the spike in the first place.3 times, no sorry, no discount on the last two. They only dealt with the spike because I had an emergency and left it overnight, so it was flat in the morning. I still had to wait when I picked it up.
They were super helpful and put up with my multiple service requests.
The bike shop did a great job assembling and ordering a battery for me (I moved from the mainland and had issues shipping a lithium battery). However, when I picked up my bike from their shop for tire replacement, there was a power lever piece off of the bicycle. The man that was helping me (Mike) said he would order me a new part. I kept calling and calling, and he said the part was still on back order. He said he would take care of everything and call me when the part came in.Finally, I checked back. Mike was no longer working there, and the owner would not replace the part. He wanted to charge me for the part that the shop lost. I do not buy stocks (Im a trader) or conduct business with unethical companies. At the first sign of dishonesty, Im out. Unfortunately, I will not do anymore business with this company as its employee was dishonest with me, and the owner would not give me benefit of the doubt.
Ive rented twice from these guys, they were excellent each time. Easy to make a reservation, very quick pick up and drop off, great responsiveness. Bikes were in good shape, definitely recommend if you want to ride on Maui!
Rented a Specialized Roubaix road bike for my one week stay in Maui. The bike was ready for me on arrival and tuned flawlessly. The entire experience was easy and hassle-free. Thanks, guys!
Helpful people who rent excellent, well-maintained road bikes!! If you are a cyclist, try to ride the west Maui loop (60 miles, 4000 ft vertical from my hotel). You wont regret it.Maui is more expensive, more crowded and less green than my favorite island, Kauai (which has no safe cycling routes of more than minimal distance). The tourists who come to Maui are often deficient in aloha spirit (The islanders are great). Thank goodness for West Maui Cycles, they have great bikes and they will suggest beautiful routes. They are probably the only reason my family is able to drag me to Maui. Seriously, if you are a cyclist, dont miss these guys. They are the best.Edit: They are also honest above and beyond what they need to do. My rental was cut short because of hurricane Lane, and they refunded the difference instead of just offering store credit, as is their standard policy. Of course, since their store jerseys are among the nicest Ive seen, they will see that money again when I order one after i get home.
Top notch outfit. Top notch bikes. If you want a performance road bike this is THE option; look no further.
I was tasked with getting my bosss bikes out to Maui from Colorado. I myself am new to the cycling world. Mike and Jaime made this process so simple for me. They worked with me over a few weeks and went above and beyond. I would absolutely use these guys again. Thanks for helping me out and teaching me a few things along the way.
My wife and I ride Specialized bikes at home. Mike and crew were great in getting us on bikes that were very close to our own. Very helpful staff. Great route recommendations and an epic ride along Mauis northwest shoreline.Highly recommend. Would use again in a heartbeat
Great place to rent good road bikes in Maui. We were here from Colorado and wanted to ride so we stopped into west Maui cycles and rented two nice specialized Roubaixs. We are experienced riders so we kind of knew what we were doing, but they were super helpful and informative with routes and general info. Wonderful experience here recommend highly.
I recommend West Maui Bikes for rentals. Picked up two ebikes, and while there was a snafu (hence the 4 star) the staff recovered admirably, taking extraordinary steps to keep us moving and enjoying the rentals. Thanks guys.
Great spot on west Maui with helpful staff. Had a rear derailer break during a ride and was able to get my bike in for a repair. They had all the parts needed and were able to finish up the repair on the spot, right at the end of the day. Really appreciated their help in getting my bike fixed so I could get back to riding!
For my week long vacation in Maui I rented a Specialized Tarmac from West Maui Cycles and my experience was great. When I went to pick up my bike they already had it out and ready to go. I brought my own pedals/helmet and they were able to quickly install the pedals for me. First a quick check over the bike frame and components to mark any known visual damage and then a rundown of the saddle bag items and I was on my way. I did a quick test of the shifting/etc and everything worked flawlessly.I cant attest to how helpful they would be in sizing/fitting a rental bike. As an experienced/picky cyclist I handled that all myself. But I will say everyone I spoke with was very friendly and I wouldnt doubt they would have helped if I had asked.I placed my reservation online and I would strongly suggest anyone that in interested in renting a bike do the same. The reservation system is very easy and they appear to be flexible if you need to adjust, assuming they have a bike available. I initially placed my reservation for a Robaix but later changed it to the Tarmac without any trouble. One other item to mention is that they provide a couple floor pumps in the front of the store. Having forgot to bring my floor pump I found this to be very handy.
Ask to buy a new wheel and they said they have one, but did not. Brought my old wheel to compare, they made a small adjustment on my hub then charged me $12 and my old wheel was still messed up and no new wheel🤷♂️
Rental process was very easy. The bikes are very nice and the guys at the shop could not have been friendlier. West Maui Loop was the most beautiful (and challenging) rides Ive ever done. Would most certainly use West Maui Cycles again. Highly recommend. If you do the West Maui Loop, bring plenty of water and some cash to buy H2O on the way. There are vendors who sell food, snacks and water along the way and they only take cash.

Literally, the folks and equipment made my vacation more than I could ever have expected. THANK YOU ALL for making my (and my familys) vacation such an incredible experience!See you soon!Dana StearnsBoston, MA
A great locally owned bike shop that is run by real cyclist. Rented two bikes there. Both were in good shape. Slid out on a wet corner and damaged the saddle, handlebar tape and left shifter. Shop was very reasonable on the repairs. All done at cost (vs. retail) and no charge for labor. Even offered to let me have the damaged saddle that needed to be replaced. Total repair came to less than $90. Very fair and reasonable. Were more concerned about my injuries (road rash) than the bike.
Fantastic! Highly recommend this shop. They have a great selection of rental bikes. Set up my bike perfectly. Got the perfect one to take on the Haleakala challenge.
Great service from people who really know bikes! I rented a Specialized Ruby--with Di2. Bike was in awesome condition, and set up to my specs when I picked it up. Incredibly helpful - a good bike shop? Highly recommend for folks who want to rent a bike in Maui.
Great service and good selection.
Fantastic experience with the guys helping me. Would recommend anyone stop by for their help.
If you are a serious cyclist and interested in renting a bike for your stay in Maui, this is the place to check with first. Top of the line bikes, great staff makes the whole process simple- just bring your own pedals (I brought my own helmet but they will take care of you if needed) and youll be ready to go. I rented a Specialized Roubaix for 5 days, got in some great riding and the whole process could not have been easier. I would HIGHLY recommend West Maui Cycles
Rented a bike to climb Mt Haleakala, spoke with three of their staff on separate occasions, each was very helpful and had good advise. I also liked their website info on the route, rest stops / stores etc. The bike was very well set up for this climb. I did make it to the top from the beach. Highly recommend this shop and hope to return soon.
Service was great, worked with me on my reservation when I had a last minute scheduling conflict. Bike was tuned well.If you are looking for a ride while in Maui, do the West Maui Loop. Amazing
Great team, I could rent a beautiful road bike. Thanks a lot!
Great selection of apparel. Better yet great selection of rental bikes with the appropriate gears for the steep hills of Maui. If you are looking for road bike rentals, this is the shop to rely on.
Great ride
I cant say enough kind words to Scot and the folks at West Maui Cycles. They fixed my bike, showed me some great bike routes, and fixed me up in some sweet Hawaiian colours. Oh, the tip on the brew pub / Thai pizza was a nice bonus too. West Maui Cycles is the shop for me (a MAMIL with an expensive bike). Thanks again and watch out for those Monkey Pods. :)
Been busy since we got home so this review is way overdue. We placed our order for a Ruby and Roubaix w/UDi drivetrain about 3-4 weeks ahead of arriving in Maui. We supplied the requested bike sizes and seat height info on the website. When we arrived at WMC the afternoon of Sept 2, the bikes were setup perfect and ready to go. We brought our own pedals and computer mounts and they happily and quickly installed them. The bikes performed perfectly for the 48 hours we had them. Kudos to Mike Rodney and the other technicians who helped us out on the setup, pickup and return. They run a nice shop and have a nice selection of jerseys! Would definitely use WMC again and we highly recommend them. Thanks much! Jeff S.
Always great to deal with. Above average equipment for a great price. We make the trip from Makena to pick up our bikes every time. We will use them and recommend them over and over.
Always friendly and efficient service. Well stocked store with full repair department and bike rental.
We rented a couple of Specialized road bikes from them for several days. Bikes were in great like-new condition and we had a great time riding around the island. We plan to rent from them again the next time we visit Lahaina.
I have rented from West Maui Cycles every year over the last 5 years during my week visit to Maui. Every year the owner got nastier about my riding the trails above Kaanapali. Apparently they are reserved for locals. Last year, he rented me a fat tire bike that he thought I could not possibly ride uphill. This year, he stopped renting any mountain bikes altogether, blaming the tourists (me?). I was forced to look elsewhere and found Neal at Crater Cycles who provided excellent friendly service, and a great Giant Trance MTB. Professionalism is too much to ask for at West Maui Cycles.
Rented a new Specialized Tarmac Comp from them on a recent trip and had an awesome experience. I reserved my bicycle on line and when I came into the shop to pick it up, they had everything setup for me. I was in and out in 10 minutes and was on my way to tackle the West Maui loop. I wished they could have swapped out the standard stem for a longer one for me (bike came with 90mm and I ride a 120 so its not a small difference to me) but all things considered, it worked out well.If you plan do to the West Maui loop, I will say that its the toughest 4000 feet of climbing Ive seen. With all of the twists and curves over one lane roads, you end up riding the brakes through the descents. You end up loosing all the momentum you would normally carry with you into the next hill which makes for a lot of climbing.
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great shop and selection.
Helpful, nice and knowledgeable! Helped me out with a quick brake bleed!
These guys rock! What a great experience. I rented a road bike for a week of riding which included the climb up Haleakala from Paia. The bike performed perfectly. It was a solid Specialized carbon with NO creaks or squeaks (Im very sensitive). I called a few months ahead and reserved one of the newer bikes. Three bits of advise Id give: 1- Bring you own shoes, pedals, and helmet. 2- Measure your bike at home correctly and take the time to get the rental bike set up. 3- Check out any rented bike thoroughly BEFORE you get out on that long ride. Whether your riding for an hour or a day, Maui is an awesome place to ride. Ive been riding there for the last few yearly summer vacations, and have always found the roads good and the drivers courteous. Thanks WMC!!
Super convenient. Nice quality road bike rentals. Good service.
Very helpful staff. I needed a new tire and a lock. They took care of me quickly and professionally.
Fast, fair and friendly bike assembly and packing service for visitors from the mainland.
Mike and Tyson etc., were extremely helpful in finding the perfect bike and accessories(lock, helmet...). Best bike shop on Maui!
Great road bike rentals and very friendly staff!
I flew in to Maui for the week from Los Angeles. I celebrate my Birthday every year with a ride but I didnt want to bring my bike. This was my first experience renting a bike from any shop. It was a seamless experience to say the least. I reserved my bike a week before going to Maui.I took my Shoes with me and notified the shop of what pedals I would need but I recommend bringing your own just in case. I literally walked in and they wheeled the bike out and handed me a helmet. The Specialized Roubaix SL4 Comp UDi2 was an amazing bike and the shop adjusted the seat for me. I jumped on the bike and it felt like a dream. The guys at the shop were friendly and helpful. My Birthday ride up to the Blowhole was an Amazing Experience and I couldnt thank Maui Cycles enough for making it happen.
Second time renting a bike from WMC. First class experience. Got a Roubaix to ride the W Maui loop. Bike was in brand new condition and well sorted out. I was able to pick it up before closing the day before my ride. This was convenient since I planned an early start the next day to get ahead of the tourist traffic. WMC spotted me pedals, when I discovered that I left mine back at the hotel. They threw in a small lock that fit in the saddle bag. All this at no extra cost. Guys on the shop were courteous and professional. Highly recommended!
Our trip around the West Maui loop was the highlight of our vacation. The bikes were great and the guys at the shop were super friendly and helpful!
Nice bike rentals at reasonable prices.
Excellent service and quality bikes.
Great, friendly staff. Made renting super easy.
I had a good experience. Seems to be a big difference in opinion on these reviews! The shop is clean and well stocked, also easy to find. My Rental was done by phone and the guy taking my call logged online and did the reservation for me...good job! The price for what I rented was very reasonable so I added a day so it would be available at our condo if I wanted to ride it. Small rocks and glass are on the bike lanes and these guys had Gatorskin tires mounted for me...great job!A few pointers though: We visitors spend a lot of money coming to HI, one of the the highlights of my vacation was renting one of your Roubaixs and it was a great bike in wonderful shape. I brought my pedals and you installed them. BUT!! Make it a point to spend more time fitting the person to the bike! Im renting a $3500 bike, you wouldnt sell me this bike by slapping some pedals on and sending me on my way, Ive spent a buttload of money getting to you...spend some time making sure we fit on the bike... I would pay more if thats what it took!Staffing, I called twice from the mainland and visited twice while on the island and your folks were busy every time. Your missing sales and I dont want that to happen, you have a good operation. As a former small business owner...I want you to succeed!Mahalo....yall!:)
Great shop, top quality rentals, and good people. What more do you want?!?!
After reserving two Roubaix bikes, a 52 for myself and a 58 for my husband, I received a confirmation email stating that these were the sizes we reserved. Before our arrival we were assured that our Body Geometry fit sheets from our local bike shop would be applied to the bikes as closely as possible. When we arrived to pick up our bikes on our first full day, the 52 and a 61(!).The gentleman behind the counter said, no, you reserved a 61 and wouldnt even look at the confirmation email I pulled up on my phone to show otherwise. When I asked about getting a 58 instead, we were told that we could use one that day and the next but all 58s were already reserved for the rest of the week.Thankfully, my husband was able to ride the 61, but the fit caused him to aggravate an already bad back. Thanks to having the wrong size bike, he was in pain for significant portion of our week in Maui.To add insult to injury, the shop was not very friendly, a rarity in bike shops, from my experience. We were barely acknowledged every time that we went in while in Maui. I contrast this with our brief chat with the guys Maui Cyclery who were welcoming and generally nice folks. We werent even purchasing or renting anything from them, we just stopped in while we were in Paia.To West Maui Cycles credit, they did appear to have applied the fit sheet closely to the 52 for me and I had no issues. The bikes were in good shape, and they let us take a floor pump at no additional cost. After our experience, if we go back to Maui, we will rent from Maui Cyclery. Theyre not a Specialized shop, but Id rather enjoy my interactions with a shop.
Rude. Not customer centered.
Great shop, knowledgeable personnel.
Friendly service!
Great service
Good shop
Slow
My wife and I rented road bikes from West Maui Cycles on a trip to Maui and had a great experience with this shop. Everybody we worked with was very friendly, and the bikes worked perfectly. Thanks so much, to the staff for a great experience, and we hope to see you all again soon!
