We are novices when it comes to the ukulele, and came to Lahaina Music after visiting other ukulele shops. Jason was extremely friendly and informative. He did a great job of playing each ukulele for us while highlighting the differences and price points. In the end, we got a very nice solid wood ukulele that was appropriate for our skill level but will be great even as our skill improves. Prices were very good compared to other places. Jason even gave us a brief lesson to get us started. I’ve watched his YouTube videos and have already learned enough that I’m wanting to buy his instructional book too!I can’t recommend this store enough if you are interested in trying out the ukulele!

It was great service! I had a good time and they were so nice. They gave honest opinions on instruments and deals. I tried to give the lady a tip but she just wouldnt take it😂. Either way, I really enjoyed my time there! I definitely recommend it for any guitar and ukulele lovers!

Edit: GET JASONS UKULELE BOOK!Between his book and YouTube videos, his techniques even made the cheaper ukulele I was getting a replacement for sound amazing! If it was on Amazon I would recommend it there too!End Edit.Went there looking for a mahogany ukulele. The staff was very friendly and everything was low pressure. They had a variety of Kala and a few Kamaka. Worth stopping in.

Jason, the owner, is extremely easy and pleasant to deal with. I started out buying his instruction book and watching his YouTube videos and I learned more in 2 night than I had in 2 years of in-person instruction from people who treat the ukulele as a small guitar. Jasons style is very laid back and he teaches the best way to use the ukulele from the beginning. After looking at his book I realized that I needed a tenor ukulele, not the concert I was playing. I wrote to him asking for advice which he freely and generously gave, even though I told him that I planned to buy locally. After receiving his advice, I realized that I 1. couldnt get the uke I wanted locally, 2. Even if I could, I couldnt get the support he had already given me and 3. his prices were so good, I probably saved money even after paying for shipping. I love my new uke -- it is everything he promised and more. If you are in the islands, visit the shop. If not, call or write. Im sure Jason and his staff will be more that willing and able to get you started or to help you improve your ukulele playing. I wish I could praise them more but I honestly dont have words to express how great they have been to work with.

Jason from Lahaina Music was great! I saw his videos on YouTube so I called! I told him what I wanted to spend on a ukulele and he asked me some questions to guide his recommendations. Then he made me my OWN VIDEO to hear the three he recommended. He explained the differences then I picked one with a warm tone, as I didnt want too bright. I chose a laminate because we have such dry heat here. All these aspects were discussed with him, as he thoroughly explained pros & cons using his video and our phone conversations. Much better experience than ordering a raw ukulele from amazon, which I did, then had to return it. Jason made sure the frets were smooth and he adjusted the height of the strings for me by shaving the saddle. He put on a low G string instead of leaving the regular G string on it because I wanted more depth. I also ordered a case & tuner from him. Cost me $25 more for shipping, but it was worth it for such a personally customized ukulele!

Very pleasant owner and staff, in the full real Hawaiian tradition. My twins leaned much from the owners lesson, which he easily adapted to continue from skills they already had. A true lover of what he does, I would recommend the shop for any stringed music needs, by tourist or local.

I decided to try out getting guitar lessons here as it is reasonably close to my appt. I have no difficulty in studying music theory, but simply understanding scales and chords is not sufficient to play well. I have been extremely impressed by Jasons ability to explain the application of theory, and I have noticed significant improvements in my ability to improvise and compose. I had not expected to gain as much as I have from only an hour a week. He teaches not just what to do, but why to do it, and has strategies for remembering both. I can only speak from the perspective of an intermediate guitarist, but I imagine that people of other skill levels would benefit from his teaching style as well.

Super helpful worker helped me pick out exactly what I was looking for as a beginner. Went back to my hotel and saw the same exact ukulele in my hotel gift shop.....for 50$ more! So glad I stopped in here.

We visited the shop today, and learned and tried different uklele’s until we found one we liked that fit in our price range. The family that owns the place was super cool, and even gave us a little lesson in the store. We may end up going back to buy another one so that we have two! Well worth the visit.
