Loved this little slice of heaven thats been there for almost 45 years! The menu is quite extensive, thought the coffee was delicious, the food was GREAT - super, super fresh bagels! This place reminds you a little bit of being just outside Yankee Stadium - great atmosphere, great food, and great prices! What more can you ask for??

This place used to be right around the corner from my home. 4 years ago I left Colorado and kinda forgot about it.Last week on vacation our hotel was down the street and I had to stop. I was pleased to see they were still open, busy, and making great bagels.A sausage, egg & cheese on the French toast bagel is just want the soul ordered.One of those places I miss a little more now.

Possibly the worst bagel Ive ever had. This place shouldnt be called New York bagel cafe because theres nothing NY about this. The bagel was way too doughy. Even the way the bagels look is different from anything Ive seen. I can see if your from Colorado thinking these are good compared to Einstein bros which is what most people from here consider to be real bagels but anybody from NY or that knows true bagels will be very disappointed in these.

Good here is great. Really reminds me of a place back from the east coast. Staff is polite and efficient. It has been my fave place for years to get breakfast. However this morning the owner spoke so rudely to my girlfriend I will never return again. As we walked in the door the owner yelled loudly and rudely, “are we even open yet” which at this point I already felt uncomfortable in the restaurant. Then as my girlfriend and I stood to choose our bagel she yells in an extremely hostile tone “I only have what’s out!” The owner continued to scream at her staff as well the entire time we were there. I am so disappointed and the staff is so polite. But sadly I will not give my money to people who treat their employees and customers like they this. I am disgusted.

Really good food. Apparently it smell like New York. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Nice selection of baked goods even right before closing. A fantastic bagel from a true New Yorker way out here, obviously not identical. Still real good.

Only giving 5 stars because of all the staff except the OWNER. She pushes her customers away and is rude. Not the first complaint about her either. I dread the idea of her being here when I come in. She belittles people. Let the young people manage the register because they don’t take everything so personally. She literally is condescending to her guest. WE ARE PAYING. She literally wasted 5 minutes comparing about how a customer was ordering but she was ordering correctly….lady. Avoid the customers to stay in business.

Excellent coffee and bagels with all the classics you may want. Nice location. Reasonable outdoor seating areas. And It’s OPEN...!!! (as opposed to some other chain coffee shops that force you to use their app to pick up a cup of coffee)

Food is good. Most of the staff is polite. The lady that I can only assume is the owner does not appear to be handling the stress heaped on owners of restaurants very well. Shes brisk and snappy but that was the only detraction from visiting again.

9 years enjoying this little gem. Ive read the other reviews and do understand. At times its a stressful little joint. The orders are not perfect. BUT, the quality of the food is terrific. If I have to take a few onions off my delicious bagel sandwich when I requested no onions... Oh well, I can handle it. Great place. Delicious bagels and bagel sammies. Amazing family run bagel shop!! The owner is the type of person to give you the shirt off their back (she literally did just that when I mentioned a decoration of theirs I always admired, she insisted I take it home...an incredible and humbling experience!) The bagel sandwiches are delicious (add cream cheese if you like it extra cheesy...) And the coffee is really smooth. Thank you New York Bagel Cafe for being our neighborhood gem!

This place is a hidden gem! Unassuming on the outside, but super cute and well decorated and welcoming on the inside. Ive always wanted to live close to a shop like this and now I do! So excited to walk down here in the mornings with my wife and dog and eat on the patio!Try the lox & spread and the sausage, egg, cheese bagel. Both are delicious!

Best dirty chai I’ve ever had, and the food was amazing! Customer service, not so much. Instead of being greeted when we walked in we were loudly informed of what they didn’t have and what not to order (certain bagels were sold out).

In regards to the recent review posted by Shannon Miller, her story is not completely accurate. She is a frequent customer that comes in to solely complain and treats the employees with little to no respect. We typically do not respond to these reviews, but it is crucial to share what actually happened. When she came in the other day, she supposedly placed an online order, which we did not receive on our end. When trying to suggest possible things that could’ve happened, like it being ordered at a different NYB, Shannon became defensive and extremely rude, and instead of giving us time to figure out what actually happened she stormed out. She insisted on a refund instead of letting us make it for her. Due to the fact we did not even receive the order in the first place, giving a refund was not physically possible, and unfortunately she didn’t stay long enough to hear us out.Thank you.~New York Bagels Cafe and Employees

We stopped by while we were in town from NC and got the Jalapeño breakfast bagel and a French toast bagel…. DELICIOUS!! Very friendly staff.

4 stars because these bagels are delicious. The owner/manager is extremely rude and inconsiderate. There are many other reviews about her on here as well. It’s unfortunate because our family loves to eat these bagels.If you choose to eat here, my advice is to order online and pickup so you don’t have to deal with the owner being so rude and acting like she hates you being in her presence. I have waited to write this review, because I wanted to give multiple chances to see if it was just an off day, etc.; but it is the same every time. I respect the owners of restaurants because of trying times in our country, but please consider being nicer to your customers! It goes a long way!Lastly, please still eat here! Best bagels ever!!

Been going here my whole life! I’m 27 and my grandparents who lived in the neighborhood would always take us here. The old owner was amazing and so friendly! I don’t know what has changed but my last 5 experiences have been awful! The food is amazing don’t get me wrong but the staff and the owner are soooo rude and it makes me extremely sad to see my favorite childhood restaurant change in such a negative way! I gave it 3 star because of the bagels but if I didn’t enjoy them I would never return to this establishment

Ok guys.. this is my first ever review, and sadly it’s a negative one.. read some of the other reviews, you’ll see a common theme.. the food is good, I crave a good bagel, and they definitely deliver. HOWEVER the owner is soooo rude that it is impossible to give more than 2 stars.. there’s been a few instances where we’ve felt bothersome to her, but that’s not a super big deal, the bagel was worth it.. another time she basically accused my husband of trying to get free cream cheese, lol, because her online menu did not have the capacity at the time to offer as an add on to a plate he wanted. This was when we decided not to frequent as much as we do.. it had been a while, so we slowly started going back, the bagels are sooo good. As per usual, staff is sweet, owner is visibly grumpy. But today was the final straw : place an order online, arrive when it should be ready. No sign of order placed online. Ok things happen, I’ll check my bank statement. Not one, but two charges. Ok things happen. Let’s get the order and credit back the extra charge. Nope owner steps in and basically suggests that I “hit the button twice” and that’s why I have two charges. Shouldn’t I have two orders then? Instead of zero? This woman really is visibly jaded from the industry, and blurts out “no you’re right the customer is always right”. No ma’am, I’m just asking that you give ME the benefit of the doubt, and that clearly NY Bagels is having an online ordering technical issue. Never once did she offer to start making the order, which she still hadn’t received on her end. So clearly is online issue. She asked me to get out of line so she could help the next customer! Pardon?? Nope at this point I’ll just take a credit and won’t subject myself to this treatment! She was extra rude in pointing out that she still had to find this order to credit me. No thank you, I’ll call my bank, and they’ll help me out!I felt compelled to give details as to how this woman runs her business. Yes the food is good, but absolutely not worth patronizing. She has a sign up asking if anyone wants to purchase the business. Please, someone do it. It’s has so much potential!

We might have gone on a bad day but our order was almost all incorrect. Had to go in twice to fix one sandwich. One bagel had egg instead of cream cheese and our last bagel we did asked for extra cream cheese but there was so much cream cheese that you could have put extra cream cheese on 2 bagels. Food was ok and I like supporting small businesses but unfortunately probably wont go back again because the experience was frustrating.

Been coming to this place for over 15 years and I just recently moved back to Colorado and wow what a disappointment!!! The previous owner was so nice and kept such a wonderful atmosphere! The food is amazing but the new owner is awful! Her and the cashier didnt know what a steamer was and they had it on the menu...the girl on the line had to tell them what I wanted. The owner said I have a latte but what do you want. Then, I was watching the owner as she made the drinks and a mom and her daughter came in and she shook her head, exhaled annoyed and rolled her eyes. This needs new ownership! You dont treat customers that are helping support your business this way!!! Sad part is I went to church with the owners daughter and her daughter is the sweetest person!

Went here for the first time today and it was PERFECT! Exceeded my expectations and makes awesome NY style bagels! Even at 10AM they still had a good selection and some bagels were fresh and warm! (And yes they actually have freezer bags— something the big competitor doesn’t even know exists) Will certainly be going back. 😊

The entire experience was great. The line moved quickly (Sunday 830am) and all the employees were very friendly. They each greeted all customers politely. Each employee serves a customer and then prepares their bagel. Then the same employee brings the customer their meal. I really liked that about the place. And I got the 5th Ave sandwich on a salt bagel and it is delicious and huge. Will be back next time Im in CO.

I love the bagels at NY Bagel. Theyre authentic for sure. Visited on Monday to give them some business in these Covid times to help them out. The six bagels I ordered were all undercooked and the only way to describe the cuts they did was a hack job. That was a first. I hope it was just an off day because they make the best bagels and the best bagel sandwiches! Theyre so good, Im giving them ONE free pass.

Hands down the best bagel place in town. The service is amazing and the food delicious. I wish I could get bagels there all the time! As a CO native I can tell you this is where the locals go for all their coffee and bagel needs. Highly recommend and proud to support small businesses!

This place is a fav bagel spot in Lakewood. The staff is generally bright and cheery. The bagels are fresh and they offer a nice variety of options on their menu.

As a New Yorker these arent quite New York bagels. NY bagels are far thicker, fluffier, and these were also slightly undercooked. Good selection of bagels, though was hoping for tofutti, which they didnt have.

Place has gone downhill. Im sure that has a lot to do with covid and maybe employees not returning. The new employees have no personality and in general the food was bland .meh. what a shame, used to love it.

The bagel sandwich is delicious and there are juices and coffees to accompany. The New York Bagel Cafe has a wide variety of bagels from the classic everything bagel to cinnamon raisin. I paid over $11 for this meal. 2.5 slices of gray roast beef and 1 slice of provolone 2 slices of tomato and 2 pieces of romaine lettuce on a bagel (even though I think its too flat to be a bagel) and a chocolate milk. No oil and vinegar because they dont have any. If youve ever had a NY bagel sandwich, then you know this is a poor comparison. It tasted OK, but was not worth the money in the slightest. Also, no self respecting New Yorker would ever put cream cheese on a deli sandwich!

The owner is grouchy and passive aggressive. The Covid precautions are over exaggerated and the atmosphere makes you feel like you’re going through TSA rather then ordering breakfast haha. But I will say the young girl running the cash register is very sweet. Overall just not an inviting breakfast spot you’d want to pursue visiting in the morning.

French toast bagel was amazing

The bagels here are really good! Its just a walk away from my apartment, and a quick drive from school, so its a nice little shop. People kept complaining about the signs making them feel like kids, but these mask signs are not at all as bad as they make it seem. They are just trying to remind people of the law, its not a big deal. I appreciate a law abiding shop and Ill come here more often because of that.

Every visit you could count on consistency in the friendly staff, bagels, and the same regulars each weekend.Things changed a few years ago when it was sold to a person who I can only describe as hates the general public.With the new owner came obvious changes. The staff stopped smiling, the regulars were gone, and the bagel you received one day was quite different from the next.If youre just visiting the area, or an infrequent enough patron that you can shrug off rudeness, this is a fantastic place to stop for a bagel and coffee.However, any frequent patrons will eventually be distracted by the curt, unfriendly attitude the owner has towards both her teenage employees and guests. Come in 30 minutes before close, expect a reprimand. Return a bagel because it was made wrong, expect theatrics. Even the signs placed around the store for Covid exude extreme unhappiness.Ive brought several guests here and their opinions have all been the same: great bagels, but who was that unfriendly lady?Look, these are tough times for small businesses, I get it. But my advice to the owner is to sell off the business to someone who actually wants to be there each day before you drive off enough regulars to permanently lower the valuation.

So we used to eat here before we moved away. Were back and were stoked to collect a bakers dozen to take home on Thursday.Friday morning was great, this morning -- not so much. We had a problem (see pic below) and we called asking to speak to a manager. The young lady on the phone stated she was and I relayed our situation. I asked what we could do about it - we can replace the bagel or give you a refund. No apology. Needless to say well be back one more time-to collect our refund.I have very short hair and my partner is bald.

Bagels are great and the staff were friendly. However, the owner/manager kept berating and scolding the staff the whole time I was there. It was super inappropriate and rude. I felt bad for the staff, they were doing the best they could and she only made things worse. I gave 3 stars instead of 1 because of how friendly the staff was and of course the food is good.

The last two times I have gone in I have noticed the Manager/ owner be completely disrespectful to customers. Also she yells at her staff in front of customers which I think it absolutely wrong. I love the staff, mainly teenagers who have always been super friendly an helpful. I love going to this place but might not return due to the lack of respect from the manager.

We have been going there for years, but during the last few months, management has been posting obnoxious signs regarding mask-wearing, and they are less than professional with their employees and with customers. Signs include admonishments to wear masks and something similar to do we have to remind you to change your underwear? Other than that, the bagels are good and the young employees are friendly and efficient. However, we will now take our business elsewhere.

I was hoping this bagel shop wouldve been as friendly, delectable, and quaint as I remembered it from my childhood. Especially since I was taking my partner (an east coaster bagel lover) here for the first time. I was indeed mistaken. First, the manager never stopped yelling at her staff - as if the company had never trained them but expected them to know more than they clearly did regarding workflows, order modifications (some people have food allergies and sensitivities), and recipes.The cashier was friendly enough, but the whole staff seemed to be under 18 and confused about everything, especially with the manager barking insults and discouraging remarks. [There is a difference between disciplined and orderly operations and an overbearing presence coupled with unrealistic expectations]. Second, they charged us extra to add avocado to our sandwiches - but never put it on the sandwich and also never added mustard or mayonnaise in lieu of cream cheese (dairy allergy and a simple substitute...). The bagel was undercooked and the egg was cold and overcooked. They add too much salmon (which tasted questionable) and skimped on the veggies. With a large portion of my family coming from New York, I guess I was expecting more. I would recommend avoiding this spot when busy out on the weekends in general as the rush seems to overwhelm the staff and management beyond their capacity to deal. I dont want to tear this shop up too much and am giving them the benefit of the doubt that this was just a bad day for everyone at the shop. I have been a professional chef, sauté cook, and counter cook in the past and this display was most unfortunate. I understand COVID has taken a savage toll on the food service industry and all those working it - but if people cant work together and support each other in a proactive and positive way, established franchise and chain companies are going to diminish or disappear entirely, your company being no exception. I am hoping that this review prompts the owners and PR/HR staff to reevaluate their training techniques and the quality of their working environment, at least at this location. Please remember that this is the 21st century you cant expect a baby boomer work ethic from a gen z employee, those days are gone - like seriously... Anyhow, I doubt I will ever return to this shop as the experience negated all my warm and fond memories with my father from a now apparently very distant past. Take care of yourselves, get your heads right and work with your staff not over them. Good luck.

I made a wrong turn and ended up in this shopping center today. Little did I know that this would be a truly beautiful mistake. My stomach grumbled, a bagel sign to the rescue! I walk in and boom wowie, the smells! It transported me back to a life as a proud New Yorker, even though I am a Colorado native! Delicious bagels 10/10 wonderful, friendly service 10/10! I will make the same wrong turn again and again!

Great bagel place. Huge portions and tasty sandwiches. They do go a bit overboard on the cream cheese, and skimp on the salmon. However, the prices are good, and they give you a lot of large capers. Overall one of the better bagel places in the city.

Used to like this place until they post signs regarding masks, like their customers are children. Not a positive way to run a business and a good definte to lose client base that has been going there since the original owner opened. New owner is a bit too direct with her views.We wear our masks, but the signs they have posted are like mother hen signs.

Ive gone in the last few days. They have great food. The young men who all have been working are amazing, polite and good at what they do. Ita once to see even through the crazy mask thing we all have to do, they are are still upbeat and happy to be there.

I dont know where to start. I called in an order because it was a little larger and typically am told that when doing large orders to call ahead. It was almost rocket science getting the order in, then to have someone in the background of the phone call complaining and being rude about a pretty simple order, demanding I put a card on file when I was already on my way there. I get there and it gets worse. I was in line and completely dismissed as others were called ahead of me. Another customer apologized for cutting in front of me when the cashier called her and not myself. No apology or acknowledgement from the staff. Ive been coming to this place for years and always spend over $30 to be treated so poorly and after all the chaos still got the order completely wrong, not putting cream cheese on half the orders when they all were requested to have it and were charged for it... I will not be returning. Its often they get our order wrong but we arent typically mistreated. Im happy to take my money to Einsteins or any other place at this point. How dare I give my money to a small business during a pandemic right!?

The food has always been incredible. We love coming here on the weekends as a family, especially since it is so close. We’ve sent Multiple friends and family there. This morning we called in to see if they were doing Togo orders. An older woman answered and was rude from the get go. She apparently couldn’t hear me and was EXTREMELY rude when TELLING me to hold so she could get someone else. The lady I put the order in with was really nice and I appreciated her Professionalism and cheery demeanor. My husband went in to pick up our order and that same older woman was rude again to him. We’ve never had a pleasant experience with her and might have to change our weekend bagel shop because she’s so unprofessional and nasty.

The bagels are good, but the customer service is quite terrible. The manager provides a horrible example of customer service that is followed by the employees. We had a negative experience for the 3rd time this morning and decided to post this review. We were immediately called by the manager. She first mentioned she was an attorney and then accused me of harassing her employees. She then banned us from the shop. Needless to say we will not be going back. Please be careful what you ask for. This morning the MGR was asked by another customer for napkins... i watch her respond by saying I am quite busy they will help you. The customer the apologized for interrupting the MGR and went to the employees behind the counter.This seems like a hostile work environment... if i have ever seen one. I sure hope i dont get sued for posting my opinion/experience.

Always loved coming here, would order to go breakfast sandwiches on the way to work. Well I will now be finding a new breakfast spot as they will no longer take to go orders less than 3 sandwiches because people were ordering to-go to not wait in line. Isnt that the point? This place was a joy that my son took me to & the food & atmosphere are excellent, unless it gets too hectic. Then they may stress a bit - but thats fine. Im from the East Coast, Id prefer NOT to see a New York PACE, or New England RUDE in Denver. Besides, theyre good people, so check em out. Took us longer than were happy to admit to try out NYB cafe. Its a little tucked away in a strip, but this joint is a solid breakfast spot for the enlightened who want a bagel and coffee and realize that Einsteins is actually not that great and Panera is expensive and takes forever.
