Can’t thank Bob and his team enough. My son was driving from MA to OR when he noticed gas on the ground during an overnight stop in Laramie. Called several places who were all jammed and one recommended VDR. Called with the situation and they made room for my son right away! Put the car on the lift found the problem and very economically fixed it. Also suggested other improvements to the car which I know are needed. Can’t think of a better result or a more honest auto repair shop. Wish I lived in Laramie to give more of my business to Bob and his crew.

Our daughter was driving moms 2010 Volvo XC60, driving a route that Mom told her to avoid because of snow... and of course a few miles out of Larmie, the Check Engine light goes on. Daughter is moving to a new Job in Colorado.Anyway... googled and VDR came up.Daughter & wife panicked. I call and a cheerful competent sounding Debbie answers the phone and says yes, they could look at the engine codes and if our daughter has issues, call and they will guide her in.She gets there, and they had a aftermarket replacement part IN STOCK so were able to begin the repair IMMEDIATELY? WHAT?The part was the fan control module. I had that fail on my 2011 XC60 so I am familiar with the replacement and the unit. I am **SOO** impressed with our luck that they had a part IN STOCK and were able to do the repair immediately. At a reasonable price too!FIVE STARS! You dont know how much this was worth to us.We will probably ship out some Cookies/goodies to the team at VDR Foreign Auto Repair. And if we ever move to Larime... it will probably be because we know a good place to get our Volvo Fixed.

I was driving cross country and my 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor was not getting any power and we had to stop in Laramie, WY. VDR Foreign Auto Repair took great care of us! They took a look at the entire car and diagnosed that it was the catalytic converter. They repaired it within 24hrs which was great for us so we could get back to on the road. Also gave us honest feedback on other maintenance that should be done after the road trip. Highly recommend them!

I just discovered this shop, and I am so pleased! Very honest, friendly, and concerned about pleasing their customers. They diagnosed an engine issue on my Subaru and fixed it completely at a very reasonable price. They made note of a few other service items that my car needed, but there was no pressure. I agreed with their recommendations, took it back to them, and received the same friendly and efficient service. I will be back with my other vehicles as well!

I usually wrench on my own rides, but took my old twin turbo and truck here for a few things I didnt want to do. Bob knows his stuff EXTREMELY well, will sometimes get on forums to figure out odd problems which is rare, and is a good guy who will make things right when they go wrong. That said two things went wrong that should not have and were corrected without too much of a fight... though being without the car was a hassle and more impact was foisted onto me than necessary. I would give 5 stars if nothing ever went wrong and 1 if Bob didnt make it right. The first time a 10mm bolt for the timing cover came loose and got into the crank position sensor (thankfully not the belt!) leaving me stranded in Virginia Dale, new hall effect sensor along with Bobs apologies and it was fine aside from the tow and time wasted. The second time one of the young guys hooked up my battery backwards (to his credit the wires are all the same color but still... ground is always a short wire to the frame and takes effort to mess up). Ended up burning out the head unit for the stereo, and the alarm system control box. Bob hired an alarm guy to redo it and put in a new stock head unit but it took a while. Its been a few years and I havent been back after the battery incident. I find myself doing everything now but again speaking to Bobs credit, he is the most honest and knowledgeable mechanic Ive encountered. If honesty/price is what you value Bob is your mechanic, if perfection is required do it yourself!

I have a 2008 Subaru that has nearly 190K miles on it. Bob showed my car as much love as I do. He gave it some basic tune-up repairs and free advice on how to take care of it to help it last as long as possible. I was really impressed by his attitude, and how kind he was to me. Christie was extremely helpful and also very friendly both on the phone and in person. If you have a Subaru I highly recommend you take it here!

My husband and I recently were traveling to Yellowstone, and when we left Cheyenne our S60 was making some strange noises. Wanting to be sure the car would get us to our destination and back home to the Southeast, we stopped in to have the car checked. We were greeted and taken in right away. The car was inspected and we were told we were fine to continue our travels and that we would indeed make it home safely. We were also given a list of some items to have our mechanic take a look at. All this for an extremely fair price. This peace of mind was worth the stop. Thank you. Home again safe.

From my experience, stay away! I’ve never personally had my vehicle worked on by these individuals (thankfully), but I was witness to the way they treated my friend; they lied and cheated him. We were from out of town and it felt like they were just preying on us and whatever poor VW owner who broke down. Plus, the pugnacious rudeness of the woman who worked there was appalling.

Im not even sure where to begin about this place. They are incredible. We were passing through town on a vacation when our Vanagon broke down. To make a long story short, we had major engine problems that we couldnt really deal with while on vacation. Ended up renting a car and shipping the van home to Michigan. Bob and his staff (sorry, cant remember the other names) were incredibly helpful and caring people! They helped shuttle my wife and toddler son around town while I spent the day watching our dogs and keeping in touch about the progress. Truly amazing and caring people is all I can say. Cannot speak highly enough about this place! I wish I was a local here, because I would not hesitate to give them my long-term business. My family is forever grateful to the VDR clan, as they were truly a God-send when our vacation took a turn for the worst. Never thought in a million years when our van broke down we would end the day feeling so cared for. I wish all mechanics were like this place!

I was traveling through Laramie on my way to Seattle, and was worried I had a power steering fluid leak and was wondering why my air conditioner just started buzzing. VDR Foreign Auto Repair was the only place in Laramie who could see me right then, and prioritized making sure my car was good to go. They did a diagnostics check and made sure everything was safe, and it only took them two hours. Everyone who worked there was really nice and answered all my questions. I’d highly recommend going here if you are in Laramie, really great people, they even told me about a good cafe to go to while they worked on my car. Thanks VDR Foreign Auto Repair!

My husband and I were traveling from Illinois back to Oregon when our Audi started experiencing issues in Cheyenne. We decided to continue on our journey. When the car started getting worse we were 20 minutes away from Laramie. I called VDR and Bob was beyond friendly. I was panicking however Bob made me feel at ease letting me know to bring the car by and they would run a diagnostic. The fuel pump went all wonky and we would need a new one. Bob and his team were able to get the part overnight and shared they would have it fixed the next day by 1230. They even shuttled us to and from the hotel we booked. The car was finished by 1140 in the morning, which was great as it put us back on the road earlier than we anticipatedBob and his team went above and beyond with their service. If you are ever traveling through Wyoming and have car issues we highly recommend VDR. A big thanks to the entire VDR team!

Our 2014 Kia Sorento broke down just outside of Laramie last summer. It actually kind of blew up. Jiffy Lube (one of the bad guys in this case) had used a crush washer after my oil change, and didn’t properly tighten my oil plug. The plug blew out at 75 mph on the 7000 ft Cheyenne Pass going into Laramie —not good when your wife and three month old son are in the car. What happened wasn’t a big mystery; I’d had the oil change less than week before, and Jiffy Lube admitted they didn’t put on a new crush washer. My car was towed to VDR. (The tow driver confirmed that the oil plug was gone and that I’d had a blowout oil leak). VDR told me I needed new engine, and got to work getting a good rebuilt engine, which was installed and tested within a week of arrival. They were courteous and fair and went above and beyond to make sure everything was done properly. I can’t speak highly enough of them.VDR also took photos of the underside of my car, showing the obviously recent cone shaped oil stain running under my car from where my oil plug had been—proof of a catastrophic oil leak after a plug has blown out at high speed. Nevertheless, Liberty Mutual (the other bad guy in the story) said there was no proof of what I said had happened, or that it was Jiffy Lube’s fault. Thanks to the photos VDR thought to take, I won my court case. Our car is fine now. I’ll newer go to Jiffy Lube again, and I’ve had five friends cancel with Liberty Mutual, which will cost them more than they would have ever paid out had they just done the right thing. For me, it all goes back to a great auto repaid yard. I’ll always by a VDR fan!

Our Subaru broke down on I-80 near Laramie while we were moving to Denver and it was towed to VDR. We couldnt have received better service! We were legitimately impressed, despite our pessimism towards auto shops. Not only did they fix the problem quickly and at a very good price, but they also took the time to diagnose ongoing problems more thoroughly than other places weve been to in the past.Im seriously considering driving up to Laramie just so VDR can work on some other problems instead of trying to find another good shop here in Denver.

So glad i brought my car to Import Auto after coming here!!! scammers!!! beware!!! very rude lady in front!!! i am a 20 year old girl on a road trip with my boyfriend and we brought in my car to have the coolant flushed. hours later we get a call from them telling us they had the worst news ever and that i needed a new engine due to head gasket failure. $6500. told them if that was really the case we’d have no choice but to get my car scrapped and rent a car to get all our stuff back to new hampshire. we go to pick up the car and they didn’t flush my coolant like we asked but decided to “top it off” for us for whatever reason and charge $8. i don’t understand why they’d think we’d pay for that when they didn’t even do what we brought the car in for, told us outrageous news, and then want us to pay for coolant on a car we’d possibly be scrapping! when i brought this up to who i learned was his wife, she instantly snapped at me in a very defensive way saying we’re lucky they didn’t charge us $50 for diagnostics. we did NOT ask them to look at anything for us though... talked on the phone and asked for a simple coolant flush. why should i pay for something i did NOT ask for? why were they looking into my car? when i mentioned to the wife we’re from new hampshire and are now stranded in wyoming she laughed in my face! seriously? that’s funny? i don’t care if she’s the guys wife she’s rude and should not be working there if that’s how she acts with customers! multiple other reviews have mentioned she’s rude as well so it’s not just me! got a bit angry and we left. at this point she is flipping me off from the window!!! we start up my car and drive it and it’s running normal... hm... since when is a car in need of a new engine/head gaskets running smoothly?went to Import Auto after and talked with Klaus to get a second opinion. he was very knowledgeable on subaru’s and was able to break down a lot of stuff for us and gave us many tips on what could fix our issues without even looking at it. from his advice my boyfriend fixed my car for $30 and it got us all the way home to new hampshire!!! had to flush the coolant ourselves. i can’t believe i considered scrapping my car because of what this place said! or possibly considered paying 6500! Klaus from Import Auto saved us! his wife is very pleasant too!my question to the owner of this place, how do you feel right doing this to people?my response to the wife, of course i’m going to come in upset when i’m lied to (at that point still believing it) about my car needing a new engine/headgasket! i was not “screaming in the office” i was crying while i was there because of what i thought was the loss of my car in the worst possible timing. i left very angry because of the way i had just been snapped at, the terrible service and insensitivity i received toward my current situation. i felt bad for the new lady working, she seemed too sweet for a place like this.

Are you kidding me? ! I called asking if they had the proper wheel lug bolt lock key because I lost mine. I told the lady Id like to keep the lock bolts and purchase four more new bolts to use temporarily until I got a new key. She told me no problem and to swing on by. After waiting almost an hour, I find out the mechanic had to ruin the lock bolts to remove them and the lady at the desk in a very rude tone tells me she didnt know it was such a big priority. I told her it was the only priority and that she had told me they had the lock key. Her only response as I left the shop thats just too bad. First and last time I will use VDR for anything. I would rather sell my broken down VW than deal with this shop again.

Just called and attempted to get an estimate for a timing belt replacement on a 1992 Geo Prizm. The receptionist told me that it was American car and they couldnt work on it. I then proceeded to explain to her that these cars have Toyota drive-trains (a 92 Prizm is simply a Corolla with Geo badges. Even the valve cover says Toyota, as it has the Toyota 4A-FE engine that come in Corollas.). After speaking with her mechanic she called back and insisted it was an American car and it would be too complex for her mechanic to work on. What a joke. They are obviously incompetent.

Fixed my car and didnt do a good job. Then told me my timing belt was cracked and should be replaced ASAP, cause it had 100,000 miles on it. Which was replaced at 68,000 and a receipt to prove it, they said no way possible. There is no visible wear and tear on timing belt or cracks. Also said my front muffler is bad. What is that? muffles are on the rear.. when I asked questions, front desk lady was rude and told me to get a second opinion. Fixing my car for 5 years, first repair done by mechanic. Usually just pay for diagnostic.EDIT: The Drive Shaft repair that cost me 2300$ didnt even last 20,000 miles. Thats after they nickeled and dimed me. Use Import auto if you want quality and transparency. Literally totaled my car, because its going to cost more to repair all the damage they did. If you look at some of the 5 star ratings, they are fake profiles with nothing on them but one review.

Bob knows engines and he knows Volvos. I cant tell you how many car repairs weve had over the years, but I can almost guarantee you anything that is wrong with your car Bob has already fixed on one of ours. Our family has been servicing our Volvos (of which we’re currently on numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9) at VDR Foreign Auto Repair for 20 years, 7 of which were purchased through them. When I was looking for a car of my own and found a Volvo on their lot which they said was in good shape, that was all I needed to hear. I am very happy with the Volvo I purchased through them, and would not take it anywhere else to be serviced. Having worked at VDR myself doing odd jobs before college, I know for certain that people come first there, and not just while the customer is in the office. Bob and Debbie are honest, hard-working and fair, and they are genuinely good people. They know our Volvos inside and out, and have kept our four current Volvos going despite each one having between 200,000 and 400,000 miles on it. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, trustworthy mechanic, take your vehicle to VDR Foreign Auto Repair, as spoken for by 20 years and 1,000,000+ combined miles of driving our Volvos. Even as a poor college student, when my car has a problem, I’m not at ease until it’s parked at Bobs. Definite 10 out of 10.
