Ryan and the group at Desert Automotive have come to be the auto repair shop I rely on. They are both personable and reliable. I have brought my car there multiple times for varying reasons and they are always quick to inform me upfront about what’s going on with my car.They also follow up to to ensure that the job was done right. We initially brought our car to the Subaru dealership in El Paso, but found Desert Automotive much more cost conscious and without all the hassle. They have a Subaru tech that’s great. Even during times of Covid with staffing shortages and difficulty in getting parts quickly, these guys do their best to do a good job as quickly as possible. If you are looking for an honest and knowledgeable group to take care of your car on town, this is the place.

I was very pleased with the routine maintenance on my Hyundai Sante Fe. In addition, they diagnosed a problem with my check engine light indicating a low voltage on my battery. They ordered and replaced the battery for a very reasonable cost. They were quick and efficient. Ryan was so very congenial and great to work with.

Desert Automotive replaced my starter and battery for $300 less than the dealer would have. They were polite and professional and I had my car back quickly. If I had a friend who needed car repair, they would be the shop I would recommend.

Let me start by saying that if I could give Desert Automotive 100 stars, I would!!!! I recently bought this 2009 Civic from a coworker, he overheated the car and ran it for quite some time. He had the car taken to Pep Boys in Las Cruces. Pep Boys told him that the head gasket was blown as well as the head warped, the job was quoted around 3k to 3500 to fix, the mechanic there also offered to buy the car as is for 2500. I offered to buy the car and was given a great deal as is price. I called around to quite a few shops in the las cruces and el paso are and this shop kind of stood out to me because of the great reviews. I was told that it was going to be a couple of weeks before they could get it in as they were extremely busy, I had the car towed there on a Wednesday. At the time of drop off, I let the mechanic and shop know that I still had not seen the inside or the engine of the car at all and was looking for them to just let me know whatever it needed. I was told that if it was the head gasket it may be quite a bit. I was told that I would be called with a quote before they moved forward with repairs. On Friday morning less than 2 days later i got a call saying the car was fixed. I panicked and did not know how it could be done so quickly and without approval. The mechanic politely shared a joke with me and absolutely made my day when he said I only had a faulty radiator cap. I expressed how mind blown I was that I couldve completely been taken advantage of. I will not ever take any of my cars to any other shop at all. I wish I could have put this into a movie so i didnt have to write and honestly these words do not do the shop justice. If anyone is hesitant about finding and honest, reliable and reputable place to take care of your cars, look no further cause this is the place for you. Thanks to Desert Automotive, My Daughter now has her first car we both couldnt be happier that Desert Automotive. Thank you ALL!!!!!! ive never thought I would look forward to seeing an automotive repair shop, but now I know I wont be robbed or cheated.

‘98 Chevy Cavelier AC didn’t work and car needed an oil change. AC needed a new compressor and they got it done. I thought the price for the néw ac compressor was very reasonable. Got good guidance regarding the type of oil needed for the vehicle (conventional motor oil vs synthetic) based on the year/make/model. We’re relatively new to the area so it’s good to know there’s a place to get vehicles worked on that we can have confidence in.

These guys had my car in the shop almost a year it does not take that long to swap a new engine and fix the problems and they basically did nothing to my car they wasted my time and alot of money I worked hard for. I had taken my car to another automotive shop that got my car done in 3 days desert automotive is very unprofessional they duck your calls dont even wanna let you know how the status of your car is looking or even update you they even lost my keys which I had to buy new ones thanks desert automotive you guys ripped me off alot of money when I barely spent any on the other shop I took it too. Im originally from El Paso and when I moved up to Las Cruces I had some trouble finding honest and organized mechanics. Ive been coming here for a few years. Theyve worked on my car from oil changes, alternator issues, and recently replaced the serpentine belt for my toyota corolla. I like that theyre always courteous and never condescending. They always give quotes on work, labor timing is always disclosed, and questions about prices are welcomed. Overall, this place has been my reliable auto shop for years because of the great car and customer service they offer. Thank you!

Went and asked questions and set up appointment for a Hyundai Santa fe. Accidentally went in to garage. Mechanics answered questions, walked us to the front, owner answered questions promptly, accurately, and with good attitude. Prices disclosed up front and Im comfortable with what i saw and what was said. And they do have the rare scanner for the Hyundai power control module. High props And reccomend based on my personal experience

Exceeded my expectations. A job well done, and thorough, I initially brought my vehicle in to have the timing chain replaced. It took about two weeks for everything to get complete. However, the wait was well worth it. My vehicle runs great. Ryan is pretty open-minded and friendly. The mechanic who worked on my vehicle did a great job.

My truck had issues with head lights. Desert automotive re wired the lights and dimmer switch,very professional and courteous people, would go back for sure.

This work occurred between end of 1/2021 and end of 2/2021.1. Got a quote from Baird Automotive2. Baird did not provide a reasonable quote and declined to provide part brands and no mention of OEM or aftermarket. Instead was told “what’s available”. Wrong answer...3. Took mediocre quote provided my Baird to Desert Automotive. Josh provided a quote after 20min based on Bairds quote. Showed me order for parts being designated for repairs but no hard copy was provided.4. Big ticket repairs so was asked to pay part of it upfront, okay. Asked him how long repairs would take, he said two days. Said parts were in stock so I left the car there (Thursday) and said it would be ready Tuesday5. Monday got a call from Ryan, shop manager. Stated parts were delayed and car would probably be ready till end of week or following week. Interesting...I was told parts were in stock. Ryan said parts had been order through O’Reillys. I was hoping to hear a reputable vendor but O’Reillys? I was also told they were at then mercy of the vendors...6. Further calls from Ryan about parts not being available or not being ordered properly because they didn’t fit the car, hmmm. Ryan provided a revised quote. He made suggestions which didn’t sound very confident telling me to take the car to a BMW dealership to have it aligned instead and how BMWs are picky. More red flags...said he was going to compare his BMW with another BMW in the shop to compare to mine. Okay, shoot me because this shop sounds like they’re learning as they go.7. Second quote showed Duralast parts (Autozone brand). Now, Ryan is a BMW owner quoting me Autozone parts for my BMW...serious? I had to call mechanics back home to ask about these Duralast parts which they suggested I stay away from.8. Stated he needed to get the parts from Arizona with overnight shipping which would push the repairs a couple of days and of course charged me for the overnight shipping. Did I mention I needed to go out of town for work Thursday? So by now the car has been in the shop for almost two weeks. Recall No. 4 above? 2 days turned into two weeks.9. I contacted Ryan late Tuesday night letting him know I was not comfortable using below average parts (Duralast-Autozone) on my BMW. Part went from being Belsteins/Monroe to Duralast for some parts. At this point I knew I had made a mistake.10. Not very many options in town and since the saying goes “leave it for mañana” the sense of urgency and craftsmanship goes out the window.11. I’ve mentioned, O’Reillys and Autozone. THESE ARE THE VENDORS!? If I had known this I would have stayed clear. Also, why is El Paso not an option? Why order from AZ and OR?12. Shocks got taken care of after back and forth emails and calls. Still no work had been fine on my car. When I finally picked up the car, the engine was smoking. I asked if the gasket and steering reservoir had been taken care of and the answer I got was not reassuring. I was a bit nervous leaving the shop and I got a sense that I would be contacting them again due to issues.13. When I got home I checked under the hood, looked closely at the steering fluid reservoir and long and behold, it was NOT replaced. The same leak and old grease was still on the reservoir, a mark I had placed weeks earlier was still there. I emailed the photos to Ryan and he said “I think we replaced it but let me check”. After a couple of hours of waiting for a call back it turns out the “Master Mechanic” hadn’t done his job and was instead taking care of any other project in Deming. At this point I thought this was a fraud job and I was certain the gasket wasn’t replaced. When I got a call back I was told I would be refunded $600 for the trouble so I was asked to come to the shop to swipe my card. Another inconvenience and there and then I was handed the new reservoir that was supposed to be installed.Story short...the leak is back.DONT GO BACK TO DESERT AUTOMOTIVE! Go somewhere else, better if it’s in El Paso!

These guys were great! Stopped here passing through town on a roadtrip in our converted schoolbus. Wed been having some coolant lines issues and Russ and Josh had us sorted in minutes. Plus they were just the friendliest folks. Reasonably priced, professional, and fast. Would recommend.

All I had done was an oil change and they take the splash guard off and forget to put it on so I have to come back a couple days later to have it installed back on and as I drive out of the parking lot I hear the splash guard scraping off the ground. I ended up just taking it off when I got home and there was only 1 screw actually screwed in holding it on. Not only that but I brought it in working perfectly fine and left with a bad alternator that I will replace myself.

Having moved to cruces, my truck needed a water pump replacement. It was covered under warranty and this shop got it done. Great work, professional with clear and concise communication. This will be my go to mechanic shop.

Had to replace an entire motor on my pickup. It was for my daughters pickup when she was at NMSU, but we live in Washington State, so over the phone we were able to figure out the logistics of getting the new motor shipped to them, they replaced it within the time necessary, and my daughter was able to pick it up when we agreed. Everything has been working great and the price quote on this project was right on target. Great experience!

This place was GREAT. I was stranded on a road trip from Southern California to Dallas, TX, and they helped me get back on the road right away. They were honest, friendly, and helpful--everything you want in a mechanic. They diagnosed my faulty camshaft position sensor quickly and had me back on the road in an hour.It can be hard to find a trustworthy mechanic shop. Id highly recommend these guys to anyone who wants honest service.

Recently, my car was banged into and had to be towed to Desert Automotive (my insurance company recommended them) for repairs. Being an old model car that is no longer in production, I was worried they would not be able to fix my aging car. To my surprise, the manager, Lee, searched all over the U.S for the needed parts, and in a short time I was again driving my lovely Mercury around town.About a month later, Big OTire couldnt repair a leak in the cars manifold because they didnt have the necessary equipment to do the job. They recommended I go to Desert Automotive. Again, Desert Auto came to the rescue. Not only did I get a new manifold, but they Kindly repaired, for no cost to me, the the door panel that had been loose and flopping around for years. that was the frosting on the cake! Thank you Desert Auto for your excellent work, your honesty, your reasonable prices, and most of all, your willingness to service your customers beyond their expectations.

Our small RV had a steering issue and as we were headed into the desert we cold called Desert Automotive.The receptionist was very cordial and told us to come in as soon as we could get there.As soon as we arrived, the service manager had a technician evaluate our vehicle.While we were waiting we were able to find some breakfast and coffee just down the street and as a bonus pick up a few items at CVS.Soon the manager, (my apologies for not remembering his name), called us with the diagnosis and a estimate for the repair.We returned an hour later to pay a very reasonable invoice. They had also lubed the front end as a courtesy.We left to continue on our journey and discovered our airconditioner was acting peculiar so we returned immediately.They jumped into action to determine the issue and after I described the problem the service mechanic took a ride with me to see it first hand.We determined it was a simple fix and soon we were on our way with no additional charges!Perfect service, knowledgeable mechanics, nice people, excellent value.The manager also gave me a heads up about a future repair that may be needed after our trek.Go here!Thank you for your help.

They werent really transparent about the cost. They gave me an estimate of about $350 after they said I needed new spark plugs, a tire rotation, and they corrected an issue I originally brought the car in for. They never said what the cost of the correction would be so I assumed they just did it without charging. The bill ended up being $650 which was double what they said on the phone. They charge for an hour of labor for diagnostics and then an hour of labor for the correction which they neglected to tell me on the phone. Fixed my car but was very disappointed with their transparency.

I waited a long time before leaving this review, but I feel I must. If you own a Mazda, dont bring it here for a/c work. Heres what happened, and why I fault Desert for part of the problem.1). I called in December, got a quote for a new compressor install, evac/recharge, out the door price.2). I called in January and price was DRAMATICALLY higher. I should have stopped right then, but I called other places that were in range, so first price was just plain wrong or who knows what/why. They said they raised prices in January, but by some small percent. The price differences I received for the IDENTICAL claimed work was massive.3). Overlooking all of that and going off the good google reviews, I brought in my aftermarket compressor, as well as a dryer, expansion valve, and new condenser. Those last three were cheap to buy online form the same vendor as the compressor, so I thought Id price out their install too, but it turned out most of that was way too expensive. Still no major fault of Desert Auto at this point.4). Then came the attempt to install. They found iron filings when they took off the compressor, which I knew was a possibility. They said they would not warranty the work if I proceeded without replacing all components, including lines, and no, they couldnt flush the system. I said Ill accept no warranty, please install new compressor only, and then recharge. They agreed. I came back, paid a boatload, and left.5). I get the vehicle home to find the new compressor in the back of the car, and the old compressor still installed. I call upset, they apologize, and agree to install new compressor for no additional cost. Still not happy at this point but okay, they just made a simple communication error. I can live with that. I bring car back, ask that they also install the dryer, since its not that much more, and they agreed.6). I pick up the vehicle, pay a BOATLOAD more, and Im told that I should definitely not turn on the compressor, or its likely to fail very soon. I spot verified that the new compressor and dryer were installed (having learned the hard way), and they were, but I had no way to verify the system was fully recharged with new refrigerant and cooling system oil.7). I tested the a/c, and it did not blow cold, but the new compressor did turn on without any noise or problems. I tried driving at highway speeds, which sometimes helps, fiddled with it a bit, but nothing, just like before I brought it in.8). I finally brought the vehicle to the local Borman dealership where I bought it from. Should have brought it there to begin with. This is where it gets good. Borman proceeds to do an inspection, they find its just low on refridgerant, but they say they can also flush the system easily for not much cost and add some dye to see if theres a leak. They do, and after a full week they cant find any leak and all and they say its blowing ICE COLD no problems, all is well. I pay a very reasonable price, 1/3rd of what I paid desert auto for that fiasco, and its now been 2 months and its blowing ice cold everyday no problems.9). That means Desert Auto did NOT recharge the system fully as they stated. It means that theyre warning not to use it or it would fail was likely a game to get me to try it, find it didnt cool, and bring it back to have all of the other VERY EXPENSIVE repairs done they claimed it needed (literally replace every single a/c component).10). Youre mileage may very, but I will never even think about bringing a vehicle to them for maintenance. They only thing I recall that was positive is the young man working up front seemed to feel bad for me everytime he went and talked to the mechanics, so he printed out a bunch of diagrams and steps for me to potentially do the work myself. I dont fault him, but the mechanic(s) that worked on my car were clearly not living up to these reviews. Not installing the new compressor, claiming I needed to replace everything and flushing wasnt an option, and not recharging but BILLING me for it were big-time failures. YMMV

Can’t vouch for the service they provide but they had my vehicle 2 full working days and just barely started to look at it on a Friday, which meant if I didn’t go get it I would have to do without it for more than 4 days. The excuse of we have other vehicles here really doesn’t cut it if you schedule the customer 2 days early

Usually I take my vehicles to Desert Automotive, but on this specific case I had to take it to agency through warranty due to a smell of burning oil. The agency informed me nothing was wrong with my vehicle. I took it to the Desert Automotive team and within 5 minutes they found what was wrong. Always professional and extremely knowledgeable in their profession, very impressed with their work ethics.

Amazing Customer Service. I’m a very busy college student and didn’t have a regular mechanic. I googled “mechanics“and they were the first to pop up. I had issues with my lights not turning off and the problem was solved in less than 5 minutes ! Issue was resolved and I was very satisfied with the service provide. Also didn’t break my bank . I never rate one stars, but the last few times I went here I had bad experiences. I use to get amazing service, prompt phonecalls, and a quick turn around. This all changed when the former manager left. He was always there to help answer questions. The last few times I took my car in I gave them a full week after dropping it off for the first initial call...nothing. I had to call in to seek information every time. I had a simple oil leak, yet I had to take my car in 3 times to fix an issue they said they fixed before. They didnt charge me, which was much appreciated, however they time without a car is extremely difficult. The last time I went I wanted them to check out a random dead cat battery issue. Basically my battery would die randomly for a two week period and then would be fine. I dropped my car off on night to be looked at. By the time I finally got it back I asked about what was found and was told nothing (which is fine, electrical issues are tricky when they cant be repeated), but the hound ladies response I couldnt believe. She said, your battery is probably dead because you left the lights on. I responded, Actually, my car automatically turn off the lights regardless of the position on the knob once the car is off. She replied by basically saying nope, its because you left them on. I have had this car for nearly 10 years, I leave the knob on nearly all the time, yet she knew best. Her opinion is her opinion, bit she was extremely rude in helping me. Also, I couldnt ever get an update on when my car would be ready, or what the issues were.Needless to say I wont be going back. I hope they were able to work through these issues, but untill I hear a glowing review from someone Ill take my business elsewhere.

This is a long time coming.I had my 1999 Dodge Durango repaired here a few years ago.Lets just say,the manager and people who were in charge, at that time.and did the work,were not quality.And i was left with a myriad of problems.Here we are,January 2020..those problems manifested themselves into a serious situation.The new owner/general manager joshua,is what a REAL mechanic,shop owner is...he is a RARITY in todays world of shady,low integrity wanbabe shop owners.This man,took it upon himself to help rectify the problem created by his predecessor...WHO DOES THAT??Ill tell you who does that,Joshua,and his shop desert Automotive does.He is honest,sincere and he bleeds integrity, professionalism,respect and resolve.I guarantee that if you have an issue,related to a vehicle,this man can and will fix it right,..the first time.Im 55 this year,and i can count on one hand, how many people care about their buisness,as this man does,that i have met.No,Im not getting paid to say these things about this man and his shop...he is a giant,a man among men.His honor,and abilities speak for themselves.

Stopped in on our road trip because we had a minor issue. Man at front was very professional and pleasant. Mentioned they were busy but still helped us out right there. Highly recommended!

I was recommended to go here because of their experience. On a budget went somewhere else and now I regret it, so I will be returning for any future issues I may have and regular maintenance as well.

I called them about my vehicle engine and they let me know the best route to go with. This shop is very curious and straight forward.

Every vehicle I own, as well as my childrens, come to Desert Automotive for regular maintenance and repairs, both small and large. For over twenty years Don Jones has taken good care of me and my family. Desert Automotive wasnt the first shop I took my vehicle to. They are, and will be, the last! You may be able to find cheaper service, but you will not, in my opinion, find better. Remember, you get what you pay for. Don will always try to find the most economical repair without sacrificing quality or safety. I hope he stays in business for as many years as possible.

Horrible place took my Dodge ram in because it kept dying. Charged me $400.00 and said truck was fixed and running great. Pick up truck and within 15 minutes it died on the sides of the road again. Told me to take it back in and they would fix the problem they didnt fix the first time. Charged another $200. Told me truck was fixed and ready to be picked up. Went to pick up truck and it wouldnt start. Another $100 and apparently my truck is ready to be picked up. Will never go here again or refer anyone to this place

Our Bonneville decided to not start at a local Walmart. We had it towed to Desert Automotive since my father has used them for years. I am glad we did! They keep you informed on every step, the prices are very reasonable, and the quality of work they do is top notch! Thank you Desert Automotive, you have another loyal customer here!

This place is awesome. They fixed my AC and made sure everything else was good. The mechanic told me that my timing belt was loose and needed to be tightened. The guy was right!

They really know what theyre doing and the quality of their work shows, gave me a very fair and reasonable price

My wife and I just recently had the 60k mile service performed on our mint 94 Mitsubishi 3000GT at Desert Automotive. We are very particular with all of our cars and we chose them to do the service based on the great reviews and their very professional website. Found this shop online. Called to make an appointment and was graciously told to be there @ 3;00pm. My car had a minor mishap in a parking lot,and I wanted it checked out before getting on the road to return home to San Diego. They are SO courteous, and HONEST ! They took the car and checked out my concerns, and then informed me that there would be NO CHARGE for their time spent troubleshooting the issue. Being from out of this area, I am so impressed with the integrity & honestyof this establishment. I wish they were in my city! I recommend them 100% for ANY type of issue to do with your car. I have been taking all my vehicles, (cars and trucks) to Desert Automotive for almost 20 years, and have always been impressed by the professionalism, care and attention Ive received. Im always confident that Don, Lee, and the rest of the staff will diagnose any problem, and are determined to find the solution, fix it, and then take the time to follow up to make sure everythings ok- and Ive experienced some real mysteries with all my vehicles- all solved and never to reoccur. Not only do I recommend them to my friends and co-workers, but now my son takes his car to them as well so that he can see how auto repair should be.

I was impressed with the service adviser Lee. As I waited for work to be done on my Buick two customers came in. Lee listened to every detail of the problem and even asked questions to be sure he understood exactly what was going on with their car. I have been searching for a place that I could trust with my beloved Lesabre and today I found it. Plus, Click and Clack have this shop listed on their web site as one you can trust!

Debbie was such a wonderful help when I broke down 30 miles out of Las Cruces while moving from Phoenix, AZ to Largo, FL! While I was waiting for a tow I called and she said they had just closed, and I saw online that no places in town were open on the weekend, but when I asked her if there were any open Sunday because I needed to get back on the road ASAP she told me shed see what she could do and talked one of her techs into coming in Sunday morning even though its not their norm. Upon checking my vehicle out they found it started right up and after I explained how it died they determined it was most likely due to a bad tank of gas. They are the sweetest most helpful repair shop Ive been to, and definitely honest, because instead of ripping into my car to replace the alternator which I thought it might be before they looked at it, but they said they couldnt find anything wrong. And now Ive made it successfully to Florida without anymore hiccups thanks to them!Thank you guys so much! You provided me with much peace of mind on what was about the millionth obstacle of my move!

The 1st time I went to Desert Automotive the service writer would not give me a price to remove a broken exhaust manifold bolt because he was not sure if it would come out without removing the head.He charged me for his tech removing the manifold cover to confirm the bolt was broken.When I got home I took the cover off and REMOVED THE BROKEN BOLT WITH MY FINGER TIPS!I guess the mechanic didnt even both to see if the bolt would come out with his fingers.The 2nd time I needed some shocks installed that I had purchased and he said they are not interested. Business must be good to be turning away easy work. I wont bother with them again.

Having been to several other auto shops in Las Cruces, I can honestly say that Desert Automotive is by far the best. This business is very friendly, they do great work, and are fair priced. I trust this place over any other in Las Cruces!

Staff was very friendly, thats the reason I even rate them 3 stars. I took my car in for a diagnostic and I never got a careful from them telling me what the problem was. They had it for 3 weeks and finally after I called, they told me that it was wire harness that had to be replaced, long story short, they didnt fix the problem which they charged me $240 I returned the car but they said theyre not sure when theyll be able to look into my car because theres other vehicles ahead of mine! This place Im not sure about but Im taking my car to Bairds, i knew I shouldve taken it there in the first place.
