I went to this place a month ago planning to walk out with a bike. The guy working there listened to my plans and needs and told me that he did not want to just sell me a bike but, one that fit what I needed. When he wouldnt just sell me a bike, I knew I was in the right place. He made sure to explain to me what bike I needed and found one that would be coming in on order a month later. He made sure to reserve it and I was called once the bike was received. Today I went in to purchase my bike. They made sure that it was adjusted to fit my needs and explained how I could adjust it once I was more comfortable. I really appreciate the honesty and amazing customer service that this location provided.
Unique nike shop! Fun old bikes on display!
Gary did a great job on my bike that turned out to have a bit of a complicated transmission problem. Gary and his staff worked tirelessly to figure it out. I recommend Gary and his well stocked shop highly
Gary took the time to show me his amazing collection of vintage bikes and I ended up buying a unicycle from them. Great bike shop, best in Lawrence hands down. Do yourself a favor and stop in, you will not be disappointed! Thanks Gary!
Gary and his staff were very hardworking and treated me with respect. He gave me a timeframe in which my bike would be fixed and tuned, and he stuck to his word. I asked him if their work is covered under warranty, and he assured me that if anything were to arise with the fixes, I could come in anytime for them to look at my bike. I’m glad customer service still means something.
Thank you Gary! You did a great job on my bike! Its running better than ever and you went the extra mile on the tail light. I greatly appreciate you!
We brought two bikes to Cycle Works for a complete tuneup and any repairs necessary. We were TOTALLY SATISFIED with the level of service and impressed by the honesty with which they handled the repairs. We had indicated, new tubes and tires, if necessary. After testing the air pressure on each of the bikes they pointed out that the tires were fine and only one tube needed to be replaced. In addition we purchased a new bike rack. Gary NOT ONLY installed the rack on our car, but also showed us how to properly mount the bikes on our new rack! Amazing level of customer service and GREAT NEW BIKE-RACK! Thanks!
Ben was so helpful helping us find the perfect bike for my wife. Jerry is great too. I always learn more about how to better maintain my bike when I go here. If supporting a local bike shop is important to you, these guys give great service with fair prices.
Gary is really great and its reassuring buying a bike from a guy who rides the brand he sells.
I took my sons bike in to another location for a tune up. They just threw parts at it. I then took it here. It was fixed and he was out on it in no time. he is extremely hard on it. When this bike is done I will be talking to them for a replacement for him. I feel they will get him on the right bike for his hard riding. They will be sure that will operate safely for my piece of mind too.
Jackson was phenomenal. He found the specific bike rack I was looking for and was honest about a small imperfection on the rack which had no bearing on the functionality of the rack. To some, this would be a big deal. For us - not so.This honesty is always a breathe of fresh air. The price was spot on.Jackson has great interpersonal skills. This was the first time I dealt with this bike shop. Thank you very much Jackson.Wishing you and Cycle Works the best of success!!
Rude as hell and the prices are awful. Take your business literally anywhere else. You’d be much better off looking on Craigslist.
Ive been in twice now since I got my new-to-me road bike (78 Schwinn Continental II).Brought it in, initially, for an inspection and tune up. After the once-over, they installed a new tire and saddle (which I purchased elsewhere) at no extra charge (chalked it up to the tune up, though I paid for parts of course!). Took maybe a week to get the whole thing taken care of, and they called me as soon as it was done. The second time I brought my bike by Cycle Works, I discovered I had a flat, after the one and only ride after picking it up from the shop (I was out of town a bunch and didnt get a chance to ride it). They replaced the tube for me (didnt charge for the installation again, but only for the part) and I grabbed a couple of other items while there. Here, its important to note that when they change a tire they dont change the tube unless you ask (and purchase a tube). This didnt bother me too much, I just wasnt aware of that when I got the tire replaced initially.Im very new to serious biking, and the Cycle Works staff has been nothing but patient and informative. I never feel talked down to or rushed to purchase while Im there. Their service hanger was full both times I was in there, so they are doing something right to keep so busy!I have every intention of continuing to do business with these guys, which is especially great since I live right behind them. Convenient, friendly, well-informed. These guys are the real McCoy when it comes to biking. Id strongly encourage you to give them a chance.
Superb bike shop with friendly and helpful staff. Gary the owner is a bike enthusiast and has turned his shop into a pseudo museum of classic bikes. Of course, they also sell all the latest models in a wide range of varieties.
Fantastic place, people, service. I am relatively self-sufficient with my bikes, but when I do need something, this is one of my go to places. Theyre also very active in the organized and not so organized local biking community. They do lots of demo days, rides, other events.
Gary and his mechanics did an extremely thorough job of overhauling my Specialized Allez at a reasonable price. Im convinced that my old shop, in a different town, had my rig set up completely wrong. Take your ride here. You wont be sorry!
These guys are great, I highly recommend them. I have been in the bike industry for 10+ years and there are a lot of shops out there who dont really care about the humans who come their way. This place is the opposite of that. If you visit(and you should) talk to Gary, he is very knowledgable and helpful.
Not very friendly. Owner telling me what I can and cant do with my bike. Doesnt seem to care about what the customer may know about bikes. Unappreciated.
Cycle Works comprises of very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Cycle Works is willing to serve anyone that walks into their doors, regardless of the question or experience level. If you have a Walmart bike or a h
Came in to get new tires as I had flat. They insisted it was repairable and told me I needed a tune up. Once the flat was fixed I came to pick up my bike and they told me they didnt know when to schedule me for a tune up which was immediately frustrating. They told me I had to call them in a week to schedule a tune up instead. Well not to my surprise my tire immediately went flat. Now I am back to square one no way in hell Im letting them tune my bike terrible customer service and they cant even fix a tire...
The staff is knowledgeable and they dont push things on you if you arent interested, nor do they try to sell you something more expensive if you dont need it. Cycle Works gave explanations to my questions that actually make sense. The employees here are fantastic and their prices are reasonable.
Really bad attitudes from the staff and very unhelpful for a novice cyclist.
Visited this place recently as a new business neighbor in the community to say hi and introduce myself, and the manager was very rude to me. Im not sure what I did to annoy him, but I certainly wont be spending my money at this place when there are other bicycle businesses in Lawrence that are more friendly. I left this place feeling unwelcomed and belittled.
Good work on my bike for a low price
The service was excellent and professional, the prices seemed reasonable, and the shop clean and well cared for.
The owner of Cycle Works, Gary, is one of the most unpleasant salespersons I have ever encountered. We have purchased numerous bikes with him and EVERY single time I wonder why we would give our hard earned money to an establishment with such a rude owner.
Stopped in to get a tire fixed and inquire about upgrading my bike. They were very helpful. Ill update my review if I purchase a bike from them.
High quality bikes at decent prices but great customer service!
For the person who really wants a good bike!
I drove over from Kansas City to look at a tandem bike. What I did not expect to find were the cool antique bikes and Gary, who took way more time than he needed to talking with me.It was very interesting to hear the story of the Bowden Spacelander as well as tidbits about many of the other classic bikes Gary has around the shop.A lot of the bike stores around KC, I get the impression they are just kind of blah. Not much character. At Cycle Works, I got the vibe that the guy running the place lives and breathes bikes. Not many stores around KC where you see a tandem, a Big Dummy, and a recumbent sitting beneath a turn of the century shaft drive bike hanging on the wall.I probably took way too much of Garys time, but Ill certainly be back to do some business despite the drive from the east side of KC.I wish there were more bike shops around like this one. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
Good shop with a decent inventory and helpful staff.
Bought 3 Giant bikes from there thus far. Great bikes and great service everytime I stop in. Great bike store
I took my bike in to get the front smaller gear straightened out because it has been bent over 3teeth and was causing the chain to slide off. They charged me $15, took three hours, and messed up the front derailleur such that when I rode it next the cable snapped. Not at all happy to know that another bike shop in town would have done it for ~$3, in minutes, and wouldnt have messed up probably. I am not going back.
Great friendly place and honest prices
Awesome prices with fast and friendly service
Gary is the best mechanic in town, no question. He has personally fixed things that other shops said are not repairable, often in a manner of minutes.
Great service, low prices
Helpful attentive knowledgeable staff.
Had a great experience
