Lots of kind folks behind the counters and great products on the shelf. I come in and buy sealed boxes of MTG all the time. Prices are a bit higher than amazon but once you factor shipping and the convenience of walking in for same day pick up Im fine paying a little more to support them. Honestly not a lot of places like this exist anymore and Lawrence is lucky to have them. Hats off to Gene and Sam.
First time visiting! First floor was interesting with movies, games, comics, manga, figures & GUNPLA!!! Was super stoked to see a good selection of GUNPLA kits. But since the gf & I got back into collecting Pokémon cards, we were most excited to see they had a good selection of box sets, deck boxes, sleeves and single cards. They were all priced well! Left with lots of cards I wasnt expecting to buy. Definitely worth the 45 minute drive
It honestly makes no sense to to GameStop if you live in Lawrence or around the area and I havent for years because of Game Nut. Just flat out honest prices with friendly staff and a super nice, friendly owner. This is the only place to go for your games movies and comics. Also cant wait until my son is old enough to go up and play Pokemon up at the downtown location. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
Make sure when you go. You place your orders at the kiosk and follow on screen instructions to complete your order. Also make sure to let the clerk know after youve placed your order. As I was told after sitting for just a few moments. We dont receive notifications be sure to tell the staff member. These are the directions your expected to follow as a first time shopper. As you can clearly see in picture I took of the kiosk there are no instructions present. The guy attending upstairs when we came up was easy spoken but not customer service driven.
They have an amazing stock of inventory especially for board games however its cluttered and a little hard to shop. There isnt any employees who offer any help or customer service. Their board game prices are amazing though, very competitive to online prices!
In my opinion, this is a second hand video game store that doesnt really have an identity and is crammed with a lot of stuff. The store has multiple floors that at one time had themes related to the merchandise yet now it appears like a lot of clutter. On the first level, the store had DVDs, video games, and graphic novel comic books and everything is assorted in a manner that Im honestly surprised that this isnt a fire hazard. Depending on the amount of people in the store it could be difficult to navigate the store. The second floor has the theme of tabletop gaming and is more open. Unless you want to play games or buy a game there would never be a reason to go upstairs. It would be a waste of your time. Im giving this store a 3/5 stars because it used to be a very top notch video game store. Then it became a good video game store that sold games usually at ebay prices. Now people walk in and are probably confused.Im honestly confused on how to explain this huge mess.
Pretty cool place honestly a bit packed atm wish they had a more friendlier and engaging staff upstairs Id say 7 out of 10 place to shop
Would have liked to have been able to look around but was told my medical exemption for not wearing a mask doesnt matter and was told to leave. I would also like to point out there are no city, county, or state mask mandates at the time of my visit.
If I had two extra hands Id give GameNut four thumbs up
Got a first party xbox 360 controller for $35. Had cool art and helpful employees. Rpgs and minis upstairs. 😀
Theres not a lot of places like this left. Theyre a locally owned gem.
They have good stuff, but go to the one on iowa instead. the staff is about 10x nicer there and don’t treat you like you’re a nuisance.
Havent been here in a long time but glad to know they kept atsro kitty alive upstairs, feels super nostalgic. Employees are super nice as well.
I always love coming down here to pick up Magic: The Gathering cards to boost my collection. I want them to stick around, so I always make a point to check here before I order online.
They have so much stuff definitely worth the stop
Definitely my favorite local game shop. They never disappoint and Mitchell is a delight.
It was our first time at Game Nut and the staff was helpful in pointing us in the correct location. A wide variety of board games and vintage games were available. Initially planned on picking up comics and they let me know it was at the other store. Planning on visiting here again.
Went into the store with my gf, we came in looking for Pokemon cards which we were informed by the other store that this location did in fact sell individual cards. Walking around there was a box of individual cards on the counter and i briefly looked at one or two without taking any out. Almost immediately the manager Mitchell rudely told me to leave them and brushed us off and continued talking to another customer. I drove here from overland park to take a look and found that to be incredibly rude and disrespectful especially as a manager. There are much better ways to phrase that and speak to potential customers. I immediately left the store after that and do not plan on returning due to the way I was treated.
There customer service is so bad. The guy name Max always is rude every visit. The manager does nothing about thier service when reported. A few months ago we visit and wanted a box of cards that were on the top shelf. My boyfriend wanted it and we were about to purchase them until the manager came out and saw us buying them cards. There was 2 of them left and he told us they werent for sell and took them away in his back room. I dont like my experiences everytime thinking they will improve thier customer service. Today I had a smoothie and I took a sip of it and put my mask back on. Immediately after, the same guy Max told me I should keep my mask on, which is understandable. I told him I was taking a drink and he said open the bottom of your mask not the top. I was confused and walked out. There is nothing they do to improve when a complaint is made, so I had no choice but to walk out. I will not be going back ever again. This is multiple times I get bad service from here. I asked for his name and it was hard for him to give me his name.
Quality staff and goods defiantly recemend
I had a D&Dgasm all over the place. 10/10 Would do again. The guys were super helpful and offered to hold my stuff behind the counter without knowing i cant use my right shoulder. It was nice. Give these guys a raise!
Theyve always been wonderful to my family and me. Always has good stock.
I usually encourage shopping locally and supporting local businesses, but this one is less than palatable. I went in today to look for the newest set of Pokemon cards and found them, which is why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1. However, they are scalping the cards along with everyone else it seems. Their prices are DOUBLE retail price and the person working the counter pressured me to buy with false information. They presented them as the bulk of the wave, middle of the road pricing, and even suggested that I would get them no where else cheaper. I actually did get them cheaper at Walmart and Gamestop.
Surprising selection of TCG cards and accessories in the upstairs. Very much worth a visit if thats what youre looking for in the area.
I want to praise this place for being the gem it is. If you want cards or boardgames (Pokemon. Yugi-Oh, Catan, etc), just head straight to the back and go up the stairs. Downstairs is video games, dvds and figurines. The staff upstairs has always been so nice and helpful to me. Im new to Pokemon tcg after years of playing the video games, and this is my go to place for supplies. Im still slowly building my decks, and as I learn more, I will keep coming back here to add to my collection. If they keep being kind to lurkers like me (I could spend hours just staring at the card wall), they will continue to ease in us shy new players. Thanks, Game Nut!
The selection is enormous and the staff are very helpful.
Great place for old games and board games
I will forever love this place no matter what part of the world Im sent to. Many hours spent browsing, purchasing, and getting lost in the nostalgia the store brings. I can confidently say it was the beat years I spent in my life, in Lawrence, with Game Nut by my side. I will be eternally grateful for its existence, and the people who worked it. Surely the staff has changed, but what I would give for the chance to return and walk in this store again.
The people who work here are great. They are personable and kind. However as a company, their business practices are pretty stingy. On several occasions now Ive witnessed pretty bad price gouging and complete removal of sets when they think they can gouge the price more on it. Im happy to pay market price. I understand needing to get some profit but most other places find ways to keep market price or close to it and continue to function fine. In my opinion theres really no excuse. I called in asking about a set they said they had more than enough of (3 plus boxes) so I rushed in and then they pulled it off the shelf right infront of me because they didnt think they were making enough money on them. The whole reason I called was so I didnt waste a trip. They were in my sight and then they just said they werent going to sell them to me. Nothing personal against the company or anyone there but thats not good business practice and should definitely be reflected in the reviews of this place. This is not the only occasion of stinginess Ive witnessed from them. If youre looking to buy magic cards or other popular items be prepared to pay 15 to 50 percent higher than market price.
Awesome game store, helpful employees
I went in doubtful that they would have all three things I was looking for but the gentleman that helped me found all three! Overall a wonderful experience. They made it super easy to find exactly what I was looking for and were really friendly. Best customer service I’ve had in awhile. Will definitely be coming back often.
My hubby and I visited the Iowa St. store first, and they were great! We asked an employee if they had any DSs in stock, they didn’t, but she offered to call the Mass St. store for us to see if they had any. We could tell that the employee from the Mass St. store was giving her a hard time, as she kept having to ask the same questions over and over again to get an answer, and then she would apologize to them. When she hung up, she told us that they had some and listed off what they had. We thanked her and headed over to the Mass St. store. My hubby told the employee there that the Iowa St. store had called ahead for us and that we were there to look at the DSs that they had available. The guy was extremely rude and said how he didn’t know anything about that. He made it clear that he was not interested in helping us. My hubby told him that we could just wait for the other employee there to be available to help us, and the guy got even more irritable. After the other employee helped us, we walked around the store, but the guy who had been irritable seemed to have thought that we had left. He started talking about us and complaining about us. He then said how it was his Monday and he was tired and hungry and didn’t want to be there or have to deal with people. We put our stuff down and left. I’d rather buy from GameStop, as I’ve NEVER had a negative experience with them.
Found what I needed. Great for all your nerdy needs.
Always love Game Nut. Great local geek/nerd shop. Good prices and great variety.
Absolutely fantastic customer service. Very knowledgeable
Super cool place to sell and buy videogame that are more than just average. Old and new. They have cards, games, movies, everything you would need for entertainment. Would recommend to any hardcore gamer anyone trying to get into gaming.
Employees are amazing and the owner gene is really good about stocking sleeves and does his best to keep the card game community happy
Amazing selection!! Ive never seen a 2 story nerd shop! 👏👌👌❤
Great local little business with a decent selection! I do wish they had a little bit more in the switch games areas but that’s not really their fault if people aren’t selling to them in the first place. Other than that I always love coming here to scope out the selection :)
Love this shop. I always can find some gem and the guys behind the counter really know what theyre doing. Any question, they can answer it. Favorite game shop ever.
Lots of inventory, what a gaming store should look like.
Good place to find hard to find games. They can order.
Their selection of used and retro games and accessories is top notch. Their board game selection upstairs is hot trash. They have an end cap full of expansions to one night werewolf with nary a single copy of the base game anywhere else. This is the story with many games they have. Also they need to enforce some kind of hygiene rule for their MTG competitions because it gets pretty ripe up there.
Friendly staff, great selection of board games and used video games. They have open tables for playing games and I usually see people there enjoying a game. Theres a decent selection of open games to play for free. They also buy new and used board games if youre looking to get rid of any!
Came in to purchase some D&D books Ive been looking at. The books I was interested in usually go for $30-$40 per book online. But when I got here they were wanting $50-$60 per book. A lot of items in this store are over priced usually and most can be purchased online for significantly cheaper. I want to support brick and mortar stores like Game Nut, but the hit to my wallet is making that difficult to do.
Great game shop lots of mtg cards and friendly staff.
Prices are a bit steep and you absolutely have to buy online for mtg singles but good selection
Very unique place people are nice and good selection of board games and old video games of all sorts.
Wont lie you can find cheaper iteams in other locations but seeing how they run in downtown Lawrence its understandable why they charge a little more. They have rare iteams from time to time so its worth just coming in if only to look around for a few mins. Staffs nice, the ppl who go are nice. Its a great place. But like I said before this isnt the cheapest place. Its more like a hang out for nerds who need to make friends
Absolutely love this place.
Amazing store run by awesome people. It’s like being a kid in a candy store - so much to see and buy. Board game selection is out of this world good and for me it’s the place to go for D&D stuff and Paints. We are pretty lucky to have such a great store near us!
Love this place!
Picked up ddr and two dance pads. The pads didnt get along and these guys let me exchange one of the pads no questions asked. Helpful, cheerful, knowledgeable service, and I get to play doubles.
An amazing place with a fantastic variety of hobby games, gaming supplies, comics, pre-owned video games, and the largest selection of hard-to-find movies (pre-owned, and some new) that I have ever seen! Gene, the owner, is a fantastic fellow, too, who supports his local business community.
Simply gorgeous. It has everything, and I mean everything. That includes a computer where you can look through and order specific cards; that includes walls and walls of games and card packs and etc. ; That includes playing spaces; that includes nice, helpful workers. It was amazing
Amazing selection including vintage and modern games, movies, anime, and manga
Having been buying and selling here for several years now. Fantastic experience. The owner Gene is fantastic and clearly cares about his customers. Don’t go expecting prices that beat Walmart or Amazon, but I’m happy to pay slightly more to keep a valuable brick and mortar community resource around.
I entered and never left.
Really good concept with a great supply.
Support your local game store!
Game Nut is a fantastic store that carries products for most of the hobbies I enjoy. Dowanstairs you will find a vast selection of used video games, movies, older consoles, and various video game swag.Upstairs they have all sorts of tabletop based hobbies from trading card, role playing, board, and miniatures games.Tables are set up for play and I have rarely been in one of their stores without seeing people playing something.
There is a wide variety of really cool stuff, and the staff is so helpful and really fun to talk to. There is a ton of anime/manga related items and books and films as well as just about anything you can think of, with new stuff coming all the time. One of my favorite places to pop into Downtown.
If youve never been in the store, its important to know that it covered two floors... Check upstairs!
Helpful and friendly staff. Lots of events and space for casual play. This nerd gives it a 10 out of ten!
Great service, impressive inventory of used movies and games. Our whole family loves their stores.
It was nice and had friendly people running the place. Pretty sure I could find something here that I couldnt find at a local chainstore. While I didnt purchase anything it was worth stopping by. Best wishes.
I loved the collection of retro games they had and their displays always are creative. And boats and boats of board games upstairs.
Im not a big gamer, but when I do get a new game, typically anything form the Fable or Elder Scrolls franchises, I go here. Great prices, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Youll find tons of old games for your retro systems. Fun to go look even if your not into playing games.
Lawrences gem, this is hands down the best game and comic book shop combo in the state.
Fantastic local video game shop. They are extremely helpful. The prices are competitive with national chains.
They have a gigantic selection of board and table games upstairs, friendly staff and a cool atmosphere
Good service. Nice people. Good prices.
Good place. They have a lot of stuff. I mostly go in for D&D. Friendly and helpful staff.
Both stores are great! I prefer the one on Iowa but that is only because I am into board games. However the other store has the things my son is into like MTG. The owner is great, he is personable, helpful, and best of all he prices things competitively. We have found games in the store that he knows are being sold online ( eBay) for twice as much but he wants families to be able to afford his games! On the other hand there are a lot of games that are priced lower online( amazon) then most stores and he has his prices in the same ballpark! Gene makes it easy for gamers to love their hobbies :). Also there are demos and gaming groups meeting, I have not had a chance to try them out but I am glad it is an option. Every time we are in Lawrence we stop in just to look around, often walking out with something fun.
Wonderful people. This has always been my favorite game store ever.
Great selection of oddities and games and some toys. Fun to browse around and shop. Vert friendly and helpful when I am looking for games.
This is an amazing store. Both locations on Mass and Iowa have a huge selection of retro games at very good prices.Cheers!
I love Gamenut. However; if gamestop can post their trade in value online then at a minimum Gamenut could do verbal quotes in person. Its not like a verbal quote is legally binding.Just a minor gripe.
A very cool place. Staff friendly, and helpfull
GameNut is a great place to get new and old game. When I went I saw a playstation 1. I thought they where all gone! All in all its a great place, 10/10 would shop again.
Game Nut has a wide selection for video games, but make sure you cross check your pricing before spending a dime. Their expensive game wall, being said to be sold for “market price”, is actually inflated. The Iowa store was much worse than the Mass store about that (Iowa had a 50%-200% inflation on “market” pricing, and on games that for market are $100+, that’s a huge markup; Mass had some that were pretty bad, but more infrequent). Don’t lie to your customers about pricing, especially when nowadays everything can be easily checked by a customer.
Game Nut is becoming more and more mainstream, but the gentrification hasnt ruined it, yet. Still a cool little spot for some nostalgia, and there are still some decent finds to be had.
Honestly one of the rudest card shops I have ever been 2 in my life with by far the worst parking had to walk almost a block just to get to the shop got inside was not treated nothing asked giy working about card prices on singles of mtg were almost everything was way over priced four d some cards to actually purchase was told had to use the computer to order which was taking over ten minutes just to load a single card then you have to use a tcg player account just to purchase the cards no thanks zero customer feed back laughable prices will never be back
In the upper echelon of game stores I have been to. Their selection of retro games is consistently great. They have lots of good deals, but dont expect to get a popular, rare retro game for a steal.
Fantastic local game store. Giant selection.
An OK used game store. Best for trying out games in the upstairs game room loft. Service not always best (mixed experiences) & filled with mostly junk games. Be careful what condition stuff is in because they dont like returns or equal amount store credit. Prices not always marked so they call the owner to ask or see what the current (high) online price is.
Always a pleasure, great selection, great prices, friendly staff. Just dont buy that mega man 3. Its being held for me.
I always enjoy talking to the staff here. Theyre enthusiastic and knowledgeable on the subject and provide a wide range of resources is quite impressive for a local place. They have Comics, Collectibles, games, movies, music and figurines.
Good selection of games, good customer service, all together a nice place.
Lots of neat stuff for gamers and media nerds. I play Pokemon there with my kid and theres d&d every Tuesday.
I will not recommend this shop. Got some store credit easier in the week. Waited 30 minutes to use it on some comics while they did a transfer of the credit from Iowa store to Mass store. I was then told after that wait that I needed to go downstairs to get the credit set up. When I got downstairs I was confronted by a store clerk who treated me like I was shoplifting. He said, Do you know you cant use your credit up there. I said, no I did not know that, how am I supposed to know. Honestly, why make me wait if I cant use my credit. What is the point of store credit if you cant use it on store items. Iowa group was great but Mass street ruined my view of the store. Guess they dont want people to use store credit, feels like a scam.
Very cool store. Informative and friendly staff. Huge Selection of Nerdy stuff, games and so forth.
Had an incredibly rude and arrogant girl assist me at the Mass St. location. She must be new because Ive never seen her there before (a short brunette who looked like she was 14). Anyway, she made me feel like a nuisance rather than a loyal customer by being easily annoyed with the simplest questions while jabbering almost endlessly with the other customers and her co-workers.After she rang me up, she muttered an insincere thank you much while turning her back to me, while just minutes before, she was very cordial to some other departing customers. I will never give Game Nut my money as long as the stores hire people like this immature, incredibly unpleasant young lady.
The owner of Game Nut, Gene, and all of the staff have always been very helpful in whatever I have needed. Whether it is board games, comics, or a DVD they have always been great and in my opinion go the extra mile.
Hi mitchel if you see this
The staff was friendly and courteous. The bottom part is all video games and discs. Upstairs is board games, PNP games and collectibles like action figures and statuettes. I didnt buy anything because I have been out of that stuff for a while now but they have tons of various board games sure to suit anyones fancy.
Interesting local store. My kiddo found a game, and the employees were helpful. I much prefer this store to any GameStop.
