Used to think Summerhays was decent. I bought an instrument thru them many years ago. These guys are supposed to be the bees knees. But not anymore. Havent had to have an instrument repair for many years from them. Ill not be back in. They were okay when dropping off the instrument for repair, that was bought used. They were snotty about the brand. Ten days later no word. Had to call for an update. Then they called back later that day. They claim much more was wrong than it was and their prices are outrageous. Im not a novice by any means, it was a beginner model and not a Buffet. I am a professional musician (not in my garage or the street corner)! But Im not buying a Buffet for a ten yr old. Yes it was second hand, but used instruments need love too. Wont be going back, and dont recommend for repairs.

Freindly staff. I bought some guitar related items (picks, straps, etc) and they do their job just fine. Of course, they carry many instruments and I am just a guitar player so I feel my opinion wont help most, but hey, their guitar stuff is good.

Had brass instruments repaired here and they did a great job, but the repairman that did such a good job isnt there anymore. Dont go here looking for sheet music their selection is extremely small. Large selection of band instruments for sale though.

Rented a violin here. Great staff; very attentive and quick. We were in/out in about 15 minutes. Very reasonable prices and agreement. I was bery pleasantly surprised.

Very helpful and friendly. Rented a percussion kit. The clerk checked her book for the school requirements to make sure we got the right sticks. I didnt know that there were differences but she did and made the change. Thanks for being on top of it.

I brought my brand new sax here to get cleaned up, and I got it. Back just as dirty, and I was told nothing was wrong with it, just by quickly inspecting it I found 3 things that needed fixing.... I also brought in a tenor that i wanted an estimate on, and i was told it would take 10 to 15 days, its been 4 almost 4 weeks

Nice, helpful staff that helped with my music needs! I was able to try out mouthpieces for my trumpet and test the feel before buying. They answered every question I had and it was great! (Plus they had the mouthpieces on sale for a good deal!)

If youre looking to buy an instrument this is the best place in the Wasatch Front. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and best selection. Highly recommend.

The service here is OK. Theyll ask you if you need help with anything, but I didnt feel particularly welcome. They have a variety of instruments on display for sale, but it didnt seem like they had many entry level instruments. Maybe they have some catalogues you can order from. I saw a woman here signing her daughter up for an instrument rental, so they probably do that. All in all its a good place to get stuff you might need for instrument maintenance but I didnt see much variety.

Customer service is great! Prices are not the best but we are supporting local small business.

Needed to get a mouthpiece unstuck, and they knew what I needed before I had a chance to say anything. They not only got it unstuck, they went the extra mile and cleaned up the scratches and have me some tips too.

They have the best employees out on the sale floor, we have been renting to own and instrument and we have been highly satisfied their service, knowledgeable staff, and we will keep doing business with them. And we highly recommend Summerhays Music in Layton. They have always treated us with respect and make us feel welcome to their store.

I plan on learning guitar, and needed to replace the strings, and they have been very helpful on which strings to buy for beginners.

I sent in my bow for my violin to be fixed and a week later I called for them to tell me they cant fix it and they didnt even try to contact me about it. I had to go get a new bow somewhere else because their prices were too expensive for just a cheap bow and I still dont have my original bow because they sent it to Murray for some stupid reason. I usually love Summerhays but after this I wont be going back.

No question they are in the business of making money. There is nothing wrong with that, and they seem very friendly. Prices are high, but they are the premier music shop. We rented a viola for my daughter in the evening, and returned it the next morning after deciding to purchase a used one (which by the way will save us hundreds of dollars for almost the exact same instrument.) They refused to refund any of the money we had paid them. They are not obligated to, we signed a contract, but it seemed to me like the right thing to do. Like I said... They make money.

Went in to repair my sons trumpet...and we didnt feel like the cost was worth it since we had just purchased a cheapy off brand to get him started. We went over to the rental counter and were given great purchase, rental and rent-to-own options. Walked out with a brand new Bach (awesome trumpet) at a very affordable monthly payment (no interest) and coverage for accidental damage/loss or theft. The nicest thing is that you can rent and decide to return with no penalties. Super happy!

Theres a good selection of music supplies and instruments. They are just very expensive. I am not a professional and would like to find a place that catered more towards students and dont have $1000 to spend.

I was looking for a glockenspiel and was referred here by the Piano Gallery. The associates were very friendly. They had just what I was looking for. I could see that had quite a variety of instruments and sale and rent.

A little bit pricey on the guitar strings, but I needed them and they had them. So Im a happy customer!

Summerhays is an amazing place to get an instrument, supplies, or music.

Had a very expensive instrument on a payment arrangement through Summerhays. They would deduct the monthly amount due from a credit card. I called to pay the remaining balance due early and was able to. I requested they send a copy of the receipt for my recods. The gentleman on the phone said it wouldnt be a problem, that he would put it in an envelope that day. Its been a week and a half and no receipt came via USPS Today I had to call to request it again however, now they can only send a copy, which does not contain The payment method or other information, just shows the account as paid. Not good business practice to tell your customers you will do something and not follow through. This place is to expensive for the kind of customer service they provide.

I like having Summerhays up North, but I have yet to walk in and find what I went to buy. Their inventory is very limited.
