Please do not come to this Ronald Sachs location to buy an instrument unless you are an experienced player or know your stuff. I bought a decent (or so I thought) instrument from here years ago when I had very little knowledge about violins and was starting off my violin career in high school. James especially scammed me and sold a violin worth max. $2000 for more than double the price. I should’ve known better. I recently took my instrument to another luthier and another violin shop and they told me my non-English speaking parents and I were absolutely taken advantage of. Now, I know not to go to this location and to never do business with James. None of my colleagues or professors recommend RS because so many of their students have been ruthlessly scammed by this man. Please do your research and take these instruments to a trusted luthier BEFORE purchasing, and please try to stay away from this RS location.

Ron and his staff at the Lilburn store location have repaired, restored and maintained my professional instruments and bows for 20 years. Their work is. . . perfect, to keep it simple. The violin set up is very clean and open, and the bow rehairs are perfectly balanced and weighted. Ron and his staff are also very willing to help with walk-ins and emergencies. A few years ago, Ron personally drove to the Lilburn shop on a Sunday (when they were closed) to do an emergency repair on my violin. The work was superior, and he kept me on stage. Last month, Ron fully restored my Voirin bow to like-new condition (see picture), after my 30 years of playing it, and a few hundred years of its aging before that! My bow looks like new, and Ron kept all original parts on it. Ronald Sachs and his staff are true master luthiers!

Today we had our first experience at Ronald Sachs Violins and it will definitely not be our last. We were shopping for a cello upgrade for our high school daughter and had many questions. The staff was very patient with us while she tried out different instruments and we asked all of our questions. Their inventory was plentiful and the quality of their instruments were top notch. We were very impressed with the entire experience. They stand behind their products. We will definitely be back for all of our future orchestra needs. Thank you so much to Joel who really took the time to listen and help us choose just the right one. We have a very happy cellist!

My wife and I need to be able to recommended her students parents to a Luthier that consistently delivers on what they promise. Ron has shown us he cares deeply about each instrument that goes into each one of our students hands. Also ordering a rental instrument online is easy. On a whim, 6 months ago I looked up a local violin shop to rent a violin to learn to play on. I was totally shocked at the super low rental cost of the beautiful instrument they gave me. During my first lesson with a violinist recommended to me by a friend (Paul Mercer), I was told that I found myself a really high quality and well set up instrument to learn on. Andrew, who runs the Marietta store, was really helpful and very friendly. I came back just the other day to upgrade to a carbon fiber bow, and was sold a really excellent bow for a very affordable price. If youre considering picking up a stringed instrument or need one serviced, I this is an excellent choice!

Not only does Ronald Sachs make student models that have impeccable craftsmanship, but the playability, tone, and dynamic projection of their instruments are exceptional. The setup of their student model instruments have proved far better than even the upgraded/professional models sold by any of their competitors. I had a great experience renting my daughters bass from Ronald Sachs Violins. Not only did Ron have everything ready and waiting when we arrived to pick it up, he took the time to talk to my daughter about the bass and encourage her in learning to play. We had a terrible experience at another string instrument store, with the owner telling my daughter she was not big enough to play the bass and that there were no basses small enough for her to play. My daughter was thrilled when we called Ron Sachs and he had exactly what we needed! I would recommend this store to anyone who is looking for a string instrument.

I have at least a dozen of my private students that have violins from Ron Sachs, including my own personal instrument. By far, Ron is the most caring, precise and expert craftsman I have ever encountered. There are plenty of good places in Atlanta to purchase instruments -- however, hands down, it is unlikely that you will find better customer service or thorough workmanship in your experience. Even though the location is inconvenient for me, I am willing to make the hour trip to get things done right and for my students to get the most superb instrument possible in Atlanta. I think we are adding a bass soon! The quality of the student instruments cannot be beat. It does matter what kind of instrument you rent/purchase for a student. Poor quality instruments will frustrate the kids. When we were ready for the concert viola, Ron was so helpful and helped my daughter find the perfect viola. In the spring of 2012, I purchased a beautiful W. Raabs violin from Ronald Sachs. This was one of the best music decisions I have ever made! Not only have I been thrilled with the quality, tone, and setup of the instrument (as well as the price I paid for it), but the continued service for the violins upkeep that R.S. offers is tremendous, and unmatched - from my experience - by any other string shop. This instrument has served me wonderfully for both solo, chamber, and orchestral work. With such a great experience, I recently went back to R.S. when shopping for a 7/8 cello. While violin is my primary instrument, I needed a cello upgrade for pedagogy and gigging purposes. The quality of the service I was met with once again exceeded my expectations. I started playing the cello a few years ago as an adult with the thought of making it one of my pursuits in retirement. Having a music background helped, but I soon realized that the student instrument I was using was not going to satisfy my desire, and began looking for an advanced cello that would help me in this endeavor. I visited several violin shops asking questions, and trying cellos of different qualities and prices. Finally I went to Ronald Sachs Violins and quickly realized I had found someone who had real expertise in setting up string instruments. While I had visited many find violin shops, when I meet Ron I found a person who gave me straight forward answers to my questions, and truly helped me find what I was looking for. Ron has a superior ability to make an instrument sound its best and yet be comfortable and playable. In subsequent visits to his shop I met several professional musicians from the Atlanta area who rely on Ron for repairs and adjustments. This spoke volumes to me. I have now had many conversations with Ron and have come to realize that his mission is to help musicians of all ages find the instruments that will give them the greatest success in their music career. Ron is honest, knowledgable, competent, and I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a great string instrument. I finally acquired a wonderful cello from Ron that my teacher feels is worth much more than the purchase price. The cello actually became a retirement gift to me from the congregation I had served for over 22 years. Rons delightful assistant Jonathan, went out of is way to help my church leaders make arraignment for this surprise gift. He knew the exact instrument I was wanting to purchase. Just glad I waited on the purchase! Thanks Ron, for all your help.

Ronald Sachs Violin Shop is a vital part of the musical landscape in the Atlanta Metropolitan landscape. If you are just starting out looking for an instrument for your child, for yourself, or are an advanced student or professional musician – Ron will be able to help you. Speaking as a professional cellist, Ron has a gift to make any cello sound as good as it can regardless of what price range it is in. Anybody can sell instruments, strings, and associated equipment, but the art in setting up the instrument to reach its full potential is key in order to produce with ease the sound and clarity one looks for in an instrument. This is critical for a beginning student who needs all the help to feel good about the first notes on an instrument all the way to a professional musician who needs their instrument in top form at all times. I have and will continue to recommend Ron Sachs as a must stop for musicians looking for quality workmanship, quality instruments, and the unique knowledge in how to have instruments setup to achieve the best sound possible.Daniel LauferAssociate Principal Cello of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and customer

As she is a tall girl, who has grown to almost 510 in that time, we went in at the beginning of each year for rosin, a new book and to have the size of her viola checked. It was so nice to know it was just a simple exchange to get another instrument as she was growing. I have known Ron Sachs since I was a kid. I can remember sitting in his shop for the first time trying out instruments and taking my time with the decision as I always do. I picked out a good instrument and my mom paid about $1000 for it. I still play that fiddle and still love the sound of it. I can always trust that Rons work will be high quality because he doesnt allow instruments to be sold or repair work done that doesnt meet his standard. Ron is passionate about what he does and he is a straight shooter. If you ask what your instrument needs he will tell you everything that needs to be done in order to get it to its full capabilities. His bow work is excellent and he catches every repair needed every time you walk in the door with a question. I play Bluegrass most often in my professional playing career, Ron caters his advice on instrument set-up for my abrasive playing style because he has worked on instruments for players in every realm and knows just what to do in every situation. Dont mistake an advisement as a sales pitch. He truly believes that every recommendation will optimize the instruments he works on and he is right. There is a reason that I frequently see customers from other states in his store when I am in the shop-They recognize the quality of his work. He has the largest fiddle shop in the Southeastern US with the biggest selection of quality instruments available. Before you make a decision about a rental or purchasing of an instrument, at least visit his shop-Why wouldnt you? He has more selection than any instrument store for hundreds of miles and he simply refuses to allow anything but the best quality work leave his shop. I took my 19th century French violin to Ron a year ago to have some extensive work done, and Im so happy that I did. Not only does it sound so much better, but it looks beautiful and you cant tell a single thing has been done despite the intrusive quality of the work. I took the instrument to him knowing it didnt sound as good as it could, and he was able to quickly identify where the problems lied and explained to me exactly why the proportions werent ideal and where they should be instead. He re-positioned the angle of the neck, thinned the thickness of the neck and fingerboard as well as readjusted the curvature of the fingerboard, refit my pegs and made them flush with the scroll, refit the button, made me a new bridge (!!), gave me a new tailpiece, finished it all off with a nice clean and polish to the body. All in the name of good sound. His attention to detail is incredible and he cares about quality first and foremost, and Im so happy with the results! He and his staff are so knowledgeable, I would definitely recommend for anyone to take their instrument to the shop.

First-class experience! I brought a student in to try cellos. Ron had a great selection of both cellos and bows. We spent almost 5 hours at his shop trying instruments and saw that Ron, although multitasking between customers and repairs, treated everyone fairly. After choosing the instrument, Ron worked with us on the trade-in value of the previous instrument and met all of our demands, including installing posture pegs, a carbon-fiber endpin and doing a soundpost adjustment to open up the instruments resonance - free of charge and on the spot.

Ive had Ron work on cellos, gambas, baroque cellos, and violones. The (sometimes extensive and restorative) work has always been exceptional. It has been done quickly and the instruments are always much better when Ron finishes with them. I have no qualms in recommending Ron, and do so often.Martha Bishop

We are from Louisiana but make it a point to stop when passing through. The workmanship and service is really awesome at Ron Sachs. Our stops can never be short, because there is so much to see, hear, play and talk about. Weve purchased two instruments (and a bow) and are very pleased with all. Everywhere we go, we are always complemented on their sound! - The Foto Sisters

I purchased a double bass from Ron last week and I could not be more happy. The setup on this instrument is absolutely amazing. Ron and his staff go above and beyond when it comes to specing out a new instrument or repairing an older one. In my opinion, these guys are the best luthiers in the Southeast!

Ronald Sachs Violins is the best violin shop in the South. I have been coming to him for 20 years and have tried all the rest of the shops in Atlanta. His work on instruments and bows is impeccable and on the highest order. He is a perfectionist and consequently, even with inexpensive instruments, my students have always sounded great! To me the most important thing is that Ron is completely honest and very knowledgeable. He has never lied to me. Unfortunately, some of the competitors in Atlanta are either incompetent or dishonest. I have an old fiddle that Ive been learning to play for the last year. Ive never been impressed by its sound quality, but I assumed that there wasnt much that could be done about it. Last weekend, during a quick visit to AtIanta from my home in North Carolina, I stopped by Ronald Sachs Violins to look for a new chin- and shoulder-rest for my fiddle. I was greeted by a very friendly salesperson who listened to my story and asked if he could take a look at my fiddle. He, in turn, showed it to Ron. Within moments, Ron evaluated it and suggested a half dozen adjustments he could make to it that would improve its sound and playability. I assumed it would take days to do all that work and, since I was returning home the next day, the work wouldnt be possible. But no: Ron said he could have it all done by closing time that day. I hadnt planned on spending the kind of money he estimated it would take to do the work, but I decided on the spur of the moment to go ahead with it. Four hours later I came back to the shop. My fiddle had been cleaned and polished; it had a glow Id never seen in it before. The salesperson plucked the strings as he handed it to me, and to my amazement the fiddle resonated with a bright, clear tone - nothing like the dull sound it had made before. With a fresh application of a high-quality rosin on my bow, I played the fiddle and couldnt believe how good it sounded. The G string wasnt rumbly, the E string wasnt shrill - each string had a new, beautiful resonance. I was very surprised and pleased with Rons work. If youre in Atlanta and have any needs related to string instruments, I wholeheartedly recommend Ron Sachs!

I have been a customer of Ronald Sachs Violins since the shop opened, first as a high school/college student, and now as a professional performer and teacher. Their quality of HANDMADE student rental instruments is absolutely unbeateable; they are the only place I recommend to serious students for instrument rental. Their prices are extremely competitive, pretty much the lowest you will find anywhere in Georgia for comparable quality for either renting or purchase of instruments. They are the only shop I trust to rehair my bow and service my violin. I purchased my viola which I use for chamber music from Ron, and I love it! The customer service is exceptional, and the shop itself is open, airy, and beautiful. You have to see it in person to believe it! I would recommend this shop without hesitation to both students and professionals.

I was quoted a repair price of between $50 - $100 for a crack in an old violin. After driving from out of town to his shop, I was ignored by Ronald and fast-talked by his employee. Ron was given my violin, looked at it for about 6 seconds and said $320. After that, he glanced at me but still didnt even even nod in my direction and got back to whatever he was working on. When I balked at the price, I got more fast-talk and the hard-sell from his employee about why I should spend so much on a student instrument. I left unhappily and with my violin still cracked.

Im a Juilliard grad, double bass player, and have been going to Ron for over 10 years now. I trust only him with my bass, and no matter what shape I bring it to him in, he makes it look new and plays like butter. I bought my bass new from him and it is my soulmate! I always feel confident bringing it to their capable staff and never think twice about driving from Athens.

As a private strings teacher I am more than interested in where I send my students to rent or purchase their violins/violas/cellos. I have held, tuned and played various stringed instruments from all over the Atlanta area and I have to say that what consistently comes out of Ron Sach’s shop are really the best quality. Everything is done with such care, the mark of a superior craftsman. They all have great tone even in the smallest of instruments, and Ron makes sure that each is equipped with the best strings. It is this kind of attention to detail that keeps me sending my students and their parents to Ron’s shop. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my personal instruments! When it came time to buy myself a cello and my daughter her viola, I relied on Ron’s expertise in leading us to the finest instruments in our price range. If you live ITP, it is worth the drive! If you live OTP what are you waiting for? Spend some time at Ron’s shop looking at all the beautiful instruments he has and watch him treat new musicians to Atlanta Symphony players with the same respect, courtesy and professionalism.
