Waited forever for help. 3 working up front looking a bit lost.Left without assistance

After looking online for a place to have a copy of my vehicles key made, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that not one, both both of my local Ace locations were able to assist me. The website warned that I would need to go more than an hour before closing and when a qualified employee was present. So today I went.I walked in and went to the front counter and after a short wait was directed by an employee to a kiosk near the middle of the store. There was one employee already helping the customer in front of me, but after asking what I needed help with, he called for another employee to assist me.When the new employee arrived and found out what I wanted help with, he called another employee. Once that employee arrived I stood awkwardly while they argued over who was going to get stuck helping me. This latest employee apparently drew the short straw and was stuck with me. So she asked for the vehicle information to look up on the computer and then told me what it cost, which while expensive was still around half of what a dealership would charge. I told her i wanted 2. It was at that point that she told me that they only provided that service between 12 and 4pm. A fact that I find suspicious since it wasnt mentioned online or by any of the other employees that I had told what I needed done. I walked in the store minutes after 4, and it was maybe 4:30 when she mentioned this, after getting stuck with me, after not scaring me off with the price.So maybe tomorrow is a better time to come in? Maybe between 12 and 4pm? Nope. She had an answer for that too. After a couple minutes in the back she emerged to tell me that they were all out of the model of key I needed and it might be weeks before it came in.The second location immediately told me their machine was down. Perhaps Ace should consider changing their slogan. I had been using Ace for most of my hardware purchases because theyre close and I get a little bit of nostalgia having grown up in a town that only had one hardware store; an Ace hardware store. But it may be a while before I go back. I have other options in this town.

Very helpful employees. Nice that its a neighborhood hardware so close to home. Pay a tiny bit more than big box stores. But an extra buck is worth the convenience.

I go here alot, closest home improvement store to me,they have good staff, very friendly and helpful.

This is my Ace. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable, patient and kind. Im in here all the time, but recently I came in to get two replacement keys. Mikki and Isaac were awesome, quick and got me up and running again. I did have to order the other key, but was just called to by the staff to let me know it had come in. Great people, great prices! Stop in, and see what they can help you with!*Edit 7/10/21 Had to come back in because my key stopped working. Thankfully, Issac was on site and helped me out. He called the company and the company thinks it might have been because it was sitting so long. But Issac got me up and running again. What a great person! Genuinely cares and very helpful. Ive said it before and Ill say it again Ace, you have a really wonderful employee here. He went above and beyond and did it all with graceful patience. Thank you!!!

I had a bad experience in customer service. The management, seems to believe, when you do a debit that that is not a cash transaction. They sold us the wrong merchandise. Had to bring it back, and would not give me my money and I have to wait 7 days for it to go through, back on my card. I find that insulting, due to them taking my money out of my account right away! Why couldnt they give it back right away! Anybody that wants to do any transactions with them, I suggest you do it in cash. Or theyll hold on to your money, and collect interest off of it for a week before they give it back!

Great customer service.If you need an oddball nut or bolt,they will help you find just what you need.I have bought paint there in the past and their employees do a great job matching either a color chip you supply from an old paint job or one you pick from their chips on hand.You are not lost in the shuffle like some of the big box stores.

I called to find out where the store was located, the young lady I spoke to on the phone was very helpful I am new to the area. When I got there three ladies were at the front counter,they all looked dead in my face,didnt speak,ask can I help you or anything they walked away there were no other customers that I saw in the store. I came for a filter for my furnace. Then i went to pay for the item, the girl was not friendly and I knew for sure it was my race. I am a black woman,but I wasnt surprised I have seen that a few times here in Lincoln park and I have met a lot of nice people.I wont be coming to that store again.

Lisa was extremely helpful in finding the proper fittings for a gas line, she even made sure to give me a run down on how to properly fit and install them. Being a new homeowner I’m still learning these things so it was nice for her to make sure I left with confidence. It’s employees like her that will have me return to this establishment.

They go out of their way to help you. They also will tell you how to save money. The customer service is great!

This is the place for the hard to find parts and things for the older homes. Believe me i own one and love it. The big box joints just dont carry the types of things you run into when taking care of repair projects on an older home. I would advise you cjeck this store out. The staff was very helpful.

I was in there today and the staff was being harassed by a level five Karen. you know the kind. Middle-aged woman, short haircut, demanding to speak to the manager: a Karen. The staff stayed a lot calmer than I would have been. You guys are great.

She rug up my items and said have a nice day without bagging my stuff.

Came in to get a fishing license as their sign out front says they can do. Dianna rang me up with more than I was getting, then wanted to refund me. No issue but then she had to get the manager involved who was more worried about doing it his was instead of how I asked. Then tried to bribe me to do it his way. Manager Jim... Really disrespectful

It is convenient close to home and it fills a niche for supplies

This used to be Aco. I go to this hardware because its close to my house. Additionally the customer service is good and I always find what I went in for and then some. Lol. I also want to mention at the cash register they have individual carmels. They are 3 for .99 cents and are some of the best carmels I ve ever had. Do yourself a favor and grab 3.

2 star rating only because it’s in a convenient location. However, I would’ve given a 1 star otherwise. Staff wasn’t as helpful as I would’ve expected and the prices aren’t competitive in the slightest! Although it is a smaller hardware store, it is still national which means it can be more competitive with pricing! This place is a last resort.

Pretty convenient place with decent inventory. Smaller selection than the big box, of course, and not good for lumber, but excellent for any quick repair around the house. Lots of rotating decor items too. I aIways buy more stuff here than I came for.

A little bit of everything! Its a smaller location in an older building. They do have various tools and a good selection of loose fasteners and a surprisingly large selection of yard patches and animal repellents.

There are actual people there that help and know what they are talking about!
