First of all the store is just beautiful and just very pleasant to be in, but more importantly Mo was awesome! I went in looking to upgrade from my beginner violin to a more advanced one and she literally spent over an hour and a half with me choosing and playing almost every violin in the store. Just a great experience and the store has a lot of great inventory at every price point. Highly, highly recommend. Thanks Mo!!
Excellent. Mo spends the time to know exactly what youre looking for. Not only is she tremendously helpful, but she is personable and fun to work with. I left Menzel Violins with everything I needed to start playing and it was under my budget. Im so excited to learn to fiddle!
Menzel Violins is an amazing place. From the decor to the service provided, everything was top notch and a great experience. Our host was extremely nice, presented me with multiple options within my price range to choose from, gave us a great deal, and I ended up walking out of the store with a violin I was happy with. Would definitely recommend anyone looking for a good instrument to check out!
Knowledgeable and has always pointed us in the right direction when we were not sure of what we needed. Amazing instruments. High quality at all price levels.
Went in today without an appointment (note: be sure to call ahead!) and was immediately helped with the task of finding a new viola bow. Owner was very honest and upfront about pricing, and remaining within my budget, and while recommendations were made to upgrade my viola, they also respected that I was only presently interested in a new bow. I’m recently getting back into playing and I’ll definitely be making the drive up again for future services and purchases.
Phenomenal service, instruments, atmosphere, everything! Highly recommended. Mos shop is the best and most trustworthy Ive ever seen. Ive gotten four violins, cases, and bows, and lots of other musical odds and ends and they are all of the best quality! Very interactive experience, you get to hear about where the instrument came from, how old it is, and you could probably test every instrument in the shop, if thats what it took to find the right one.
I am very pleased with the service and value at Menzel. Mo is very knowledgeable about instruments--and doesnt try to sell you things you dont need. When I asked for my bow to be rehaired, she said it didnt need rehairing. She was phenomenally helpful on other matters. Great prices.
I started taking cello lessons 6 months ago (my first time taking any type of musical instrument lessons) and I loved it - wish I had started when I was younger. I wanted to stop renting and buy myself a good quality cello, so I did my research and based on her terrific reviews, decided to check out Menzel Violins. Mo was great! She was so patient and helpful. She spent a lot of time working with me and I got a fantastic cello, at a terrific price! My cello teacher was very impressed with both the quality of the cello and the price. After selecting my cello, Mo then spent a considerable amount of time helping me to select a bow. Who knew that the right bow would make so much difference and that finding the right bow would take so much time. Mo made the entire process a terrific experience. I am extremely happy with my new cello and bow. I would have no hesitation recommending Menzel Violins and Mo to anyone. Thanks again Mo!
The place was absolutely stunning from the moment I walked in. Mo instantly helped me with replacing a cello string and even tuned the cello fully! It was amazing to have someone help me out during such a stressful time. She is a natural when it comes to connecting with her customers. The service she provided me with is like no other. There is no place I would rather go! I hope I get an excuse to go back soon!Highly highly recommend her!!! Amazing, took her time and made sure I was satisfied before I left. She also gave me some great advice for playing and making it through music school. Thank you Mo!
Very attentive, do the job very well and dont do too much.
This place is the bomb!!! Miss Mo is a fantastic person and will go above and beyond to help you! I will keep coming back to her for all my strings needs!!
Absolutely fantastic experience. Let me preface this by saying I have no experience with violins, violin shopping, or anything of the sort. That being said, I know it can be a very shady industry, so when I went off to buy a violin for my girlfriend I did my research and came across Menzel.Extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I wish every shopping experience were like this. This shop is so beautiful - when you walk in, you might immediately think youre going to be dropping a lot of money. But then youd be wrong. The prices here cant be beat. The selection for violins is, as far as I can tell, extensive - and all of them are high quality. No synthetic material, Chinese violins here that youd find online or in other stores. The bottom line for me - after budgeting to buy just a violin, my girlfriend and I left with a violin, bow, case, shoulder rest, and bow rosin. All for under my initial budget that was meant for just the violin. We had fun during the selection process, and we walked out with smiles and a beautiful instrument. I think thats really all that needs to be said.
The wonderful lady at Menzel violins save me from being ripped off. I went to another violin shop in Fort Lee and they told me my two family violins (which are both in a state of disrepair) were worth about $5000.00 each. The price they quoted for repair was around $1300.00 for the full size one and about $900 for the smaller one. And they said they would increase in value as time went on because they were old.Menzel set us straight with the truth. Essentially my old family violins were barely worth the money to fix them. $800 to fix the full size and $300 to fix the smaller. If I chose to fix them it would be a personal choice for sentimental reasons only and they would be worth the cost of the repair. That is $800 and $300 respectively. How much I appreciate their honesty. Big difference. I will most likely get them both fixed (for sentimental reasons). I know I am in good hands and I have found my go to violin place.
Amazing violin store, very warm and friendly
Excellent customer service.
I went to Menzel Violin store today and was really happy that I did. I am new to the violin and was looking to just replace the violin bow that came with my student violin and ended up leaving this establishment with a wealth of knowledge and complete satisfaction in the assistance that I was offered by Mo. She went above and beyond with helping me out and answering all of my questions. I would without a doubt recommend this store to anyone and will definitely be a returning customer.
Mo is a pleasure to work with!
I haven’t purchased a violin here yet, but I intend to in the next two weeks. The owner of the shop is amazing, she’ll take you through every violin in the shop if necessary to help you find the perfect one, both letting you play each one and letting you sit in the “listening chair” while she plays them so you can hear their tone from a distance. I am a beginner, so while she was showing me the different violins, she was giving me tips along the way, which were super helpful. She even taught my fiancé, who doesn’t play violin at all, some tips and we had a blast the whole time we were there. She has incredibly fair prices for really quality instruments and I found the most perfect one while I was there, way less than I would have paid anywhere else (because she doesn’t do teacher kickbacks, so you end up spending less money for a better instrument). I’m literally just waiting for my next paycheck and then im going back to purchase the violin here. Anyway - highly rated, definitely recommend purchasing from her shop!!!
Mo is great....3 years ago, on her advice, my daughter started playing the viola: she still loves to play the viola and we can count on Menzel to be reasonably priced and on Mo to be knowledgable.
I would have given it ten stars, but i am limited by five! This is an awsome, awe inspiring store. Every time I come, i feel like i am transported two hundred years back, when life was slower and more beautiful. This store is a library of congress and philharmony come together is a small space, with violins and violas on the shelves instead of books. The owner is nice, and she explains lots of things. Like prices, sources of wood, and what makes a decent violin. I do not play an instrument, my kids do, so to me it is all new, and very interesting.I came to the store on multiple occations, looking for everything from a violin to some rosin. Once the owner even fixed some pegs on the violin.
Beautiful store in Austrian style with lots of violins on the walls. Very comfy to try out your instrument.
Instruments for my sons very young level very poor quality - $200 Chinese instrument. The shop could offer something better for another $100. Also the owner was not super friendly with my son and me. Seemed more interested in the client looking at a more expensive instrument, not knowing that I also play and could be in the market at some point. I wouldnt recommend.
Thank you for taking care of my need, I love the quality of the violin you sold me, then I was pleasently suprised with the price, I will have no hasitation to recomend the store to my friends. One more thing to say Show me a company with a high standerds, and I will show you who is runing it
Great collection of violins and accessories, very friendly and knowledgeable host, overall great experience visiting the place
Had the pleasure of seeing their beautiful showroom. Very helpful and well informed.
Very helpful and generous with her time
I would like to take a moment to share my experience with anyone reading this in regard to Menzel’s violin shop in Livingston, NJ. My grandfather passed his violin on to me a few years back. It sat in my possession for a few months before I found a trustworthy luthier I felt comfortable with to do the needed repairs/maintenance. A good friend of mine suggested we go to Menzel’s Violin Shop. I hadn’t heard of the place. However, I’m pretty much always up for an adventure if music is involved. This was back in 2007 mind you. There were some minor repairs and some much-needed maintenance that had to be seen to. The service I received was way above and beyond anything I could’ve hoped for. My grandfather‘s violin is now in my hands being played once again for after nearly 30 or so years.Moe, the owner of the store, has since become someone dear to me as a result of her honesty and genuine care for the well-being of her customers. If you’re debating whether or not to make the trip to Menzel’s Violin Shop just go.I believe you will not be disappointed if you decide to make the journey. If your still looking for a reason to visit the storefront let me ask you this. Why not go to see these masterpiece violins and share a talk with Mo about starting your adventure into the world of violin music? Tell her James Formica persuaded you to stop in. Have a blessed day and enjoy the music!
Awesome place. Mo was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Beautiful store with excellent instruments and helpful, amiable staff! Always a pleasure to visit!
