This is a great store to buy music gear, physical format music, and to get lessons. If this store has something you want by all means go and get it. All the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and I have no complaints in regards to my experiences purchasing things here. I took lessons here at the beginning of 2020, but these were cut off in March, unfortunately due to the pandemic. I had a positive experience with my lessons; my instructor was knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this place.

Incredible place! The second you hit the door you are welcomed by a friendly staff of true musicians that know their stuff. Great selection of gear from beginner to pro, they have a bit of everything, I could spend hours in there. I had their guitar tech set up my ESP M II I had recently purchased and he did an outstanding job! Love it! Their service is second to none.

I’ve purchased 2 items from them and first they are awesome to work with. I’ve never been to the store as I’m 5hrs away but I’ve dealt with them over the phone and emails and it’s been 120% every time! Items shipped were very well packed and one was new and another slightly used Marshall Mini Stack. Exactly as described and again very well packed. You don’t have to be in Rock City to buy from Rock City Music. Nick and everyone I’ve dealt with has been top shelf. Highly recommend any purchase from there.

My first visit to Rock City Music today, what a great experience! I want to thank Isaac and the young man (forgot his name) that helped me. They were very informative and patient with me even when I changed my mind on guitars after they had my first decision already boxed. Walked out with a brand new Gretsch, played it for about 3 hours tonight and couldnt be happier with the decision they helped me with. Perfectly set-up guitar! Ill be back- Thanks!

I have to give this place 5 stars. I was greeted once I walked into the door by a salesman. Very friendly, helpful and polite. He even had knowledge on everything I had questions for. Place looks larger on the inside than it does the outside. After looking around they pretty much had everything music wise that you would need for playing guitar. acoustic or electric. They also had a nice assortment of guitars for sale. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family. Im going back tomorrow to let them do some adjustments on my guitar.

Disappointed. After spending hundreds, maybe thousands of $ on vinyl, I bought a used record for $6. I didn’t look at it before i bought it, got home and it had a major warp and scratched to hell. I thought i wouldn’t have a problem returning it but i was wrong.Their policy is No Used Records can be returned. My fault for not reading the receipt.i also bought a brand new record that was also warped and was told it would be 2-4 weeks to get it in. I was not offered a refund either. So Buyer Beware and make sure you’re good before you leave the store.Other than that, a nice bunch of guys and gals!

I always love to stop in to Rock City and check out the new vinyl arrivals that always come in. Rock City gets new vinyl arrivals every week! Today I purchased Fragile by Yes, Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys, and the Black Sabbath Vol 4 Box Set! This is my go to spot because its so close and the prices are reasonable. I wish RSD would include Rock City as one of the stores that get RSD exclusive drops.

Purchased my first guitar and amp here (4/2021) and will definitely be back to spend more $. Owner and staff seem very knowledgeable and not pushy. I didnt want to spend a lot of $ on a first Guitar, but was treated like I was buying high end equipment.

These guys are very up and down. One time I bought a guitar from them with major issues. Tried returning it 2 weeks later but they said it was past their return policy despite it being messed up. Fortunately their store owner was able to get me a replacement guitar (that was $400) from the manufacture. I took the same guitar in later to get a raised fret fixed however the repair tech seemed to completely ignore my issue and made me get a set up that didnt fix the issue at all. Aside from the return policy and tech, this place is cool.

Unbeatable service. Everyone is incredibly helpful and friendly. Nick (the owner) went above and beyond in keeping me posted and remaining transparent about my order that was delayed due to circumstances beyond his control. He did everything in his power to fulfil my order ASAP. This is why you buy local. You wont get this quality of service at Guitar Center.

Rock City Music is great! I recently moved to Livonia and was looking for a specific model of guitar. I stumbled upon Rock Citys website and found the model I was looking for, but it ended up going out of stock literally the next day. I contacted them on Facebook to get an estimate on if/when more units would arrive. Nick (the owner) was super friendly in his correspondence with me and ended up giving me a great deal on a similar model. The store atmosphere is exactly what youd want for a guitar/music store - staff were friendly, but not pushy or hanging over my shoulder while I tried the guitar. I also appreciated that they were all wearing masks and asked everyone to use hand sanitizer before playing the instruments. Ill definitely be going to Rock City first for all my guitar needs!

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience at Rock City. As a lefty, it’s not always easy to find places that have left-handed guitars available to try in the store. Other than being able to find the perfect guitar, I was absolutely blown away with the staff at the shop. Their passion for the store, the music, and the customer is evident right away. I am also very appreciative to have had Nick help me in finding my guitar. As a novice guitarist, it can be intimidating to have conversations about equipment and ask questions that might sound stupid to an expert. Nick was tremendously helpful and answered every single question I had. Most notably, I am thankful for the kindness he showed me. I felt like he was genuinely excited that I left the shop happy! To be honest, I don’t see myself ever shopping at a store other than Rock City for any of my music needs.

What a great guitar and gear store! They had so much in stock and they had exactly what I was looking for. The staff is very professional and helpful. I as looking for a cheap and easy booster pedal for my bass guitar and they suggested a $42 electro harmonix pedal. Very pleased and I will be back!

Order an amp off of reverb through them same time I ordered a guitar That was coming from another shop. I have the amp now but guitar hasn’t even shipped, these guys deserve 5 stars hands down

Remember the old mom and pop music stores? This place is the return of small, friendly corner music instrument store. Great guitar selection but light on bass, drums and keys, no brass or woodwind instruments but the name of the place sums it up nice.Good amp selection from beginner to intermediate/advanced, quality stuff. Some PA stuff.Nothing real high end for equipment but a 64 channel mixing board with strobe lights is not what I am looking for anyway.Guitar players should definitely check out the selection. Went to the old store in Garden City a few times, much larger place at new location.Great change from the chain stores like Guitar Center.Friendly dog sometimes hanging around looking for some petting, how cool is that?Prices were fair, quality seemed good. Very few cheaply made guitars and there was even a few collectors items.

Brought my Telecaster in for some modifications - new pickups, adjustments to the bridge, etc. Greg, the guitar tech, took the time to answer all of my questions thoroughly and give me lots of options for things that could be done to make my guitar just right for me. He completed the work quickly and for a very fair price. When I got it home and plugged it in, it was like playing a whole new guitar - just perfect. If you need work done on your guitar, I would definitely recommend Greg and Rock City Music. (And while I wasnt in the market, they appear to have a great selection of guitars, amps, pedals, etc.)

Honestly I cant say enough good things about this store. Ive been coming in frequently over the past year for numerous reasons. Sometimes just to shoot the breeze with Nick or John. The guys here make you feel like family and the treat you as such. Whether its a professional setup on a guitar from Greg, who does incredible work, or buying a new instrument, pedal, etc. You cant go wrong stopping in here for any of your musical needs. They also offer extremely competitive prices on lessons and have great teachers. They have a nice selection of used vinyl too!These are awesome guys over here running an amazing shop. I purchased a Charvel guitar from guitar center and and returned it as it needed a set up. However GC provided no tools to set up the guitar. When I called they apologized but said they do not have themto give me. If i had the tools i may have set up the guitar and kept it even though it was not the color i wanted. It was matte blue satin. Very pretty but just not for me.I looked around online and came across the only black model in SE MI that i was able to find. It was at Rock City. I did not know it yet but today was my lucky day. I called ahead and let them know of my GC experience and requested they set the guitar aside. Letting them know i was pretty sure i was taking it home and that I would be there later that day.These are true Gentleman. When I arrived early, I glared over the walls of Beautiful Guitars but did not see the Black Charvel. The reason? The tech had the guitar on the bench going over it and making sure it was up to snuff. He put new strings on and gave it a pretty darn good set up. Just because I called ahead. Now that is service. He let me play it then tweaked it some more. I bought the guitar needless to say. Could not ask for a better experience. I will gladly buy all my new guitars from Rock City.. Great name too... This is DETROIT. after all. Even though I made the journey from Monroe. 100% glad i did. Thank you fellas. I really appreciate you going out of ypur way to make my experience the best it could be.

Everyone here rocks! Seriously. Whether you want drum or guitar lessons, some help tuning, need a repair, to pick up some new or new to you vinyl, or just have some questions ALL of the guys here are incredibly helpful & knowledgeable. They can even explain things so that even this clueless Mom can understand. Danny has helped O progress with his drumming accuracy exponentially & encourages him to push through the hard stuff. You can never have too much music. As if that wasnt awesome enough, they also have Wolfie; the store mascot of sorts. Stop by & shop local you may be pleasantly surprised at what you find. We were.

Guitar tech tries his best and knows what he’s doing but some of the workers ( ponytail) are rude and shouldn’t be working there. If u want a specific guitar just order it online and you’ll probably save $50-200.Not a lot of name brands here I’m sure the lessons are decent but overpriced as well. I know u can’t compare them to guitar center but I won’t be going here again.My friends have warned me to stay away from this place, it’s close to my house so I gave it a shot. Wish I didn’t.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff that take pride in treating their customers right. I have been here twice so far and I had great experiences. I would rather give my money to Rock City than the other local music stores.

Do yourself a favor and check this shop out if you havent already. They carry great products, comfortable atmosphere, great crew of employees. Extemely helpful across the board. Hands down the best repairs and setups around. You wont be disappointed.

Ive been a customer since the old Blues Airmen days. They have awesome customer service and know the music business well. Any questions you have will surely be answered. I recently bought a Fender 60s Series Classic Lacquer stratocaster. They went out of their way to make sure I got the guitar I wanted and service like that today is rare. I suggest if your in the market for any musical instrument to stop in and check them out. They also have an on site repair shop and music lessons with rooms dedicated for that purpose. They are everything that GC is not. A great company!
