I wasnt aware of this bookstore franchise but I am so happy to have found it. Its a large store with a great variety of books available in English and Japanese. I was happy to have found some books that I havent been able to in other stores or online which makes my soul sing.Theres also a ton of gifts and stationary/office & art supplies as well. The plusses are adorable and I love the pins. The staff was quick, professional, and kind. All in all, one of my favorite new shops that Im happy to know exists.
Wonderful place to visit regardless if you are going to buy anything, or not.To browse around such an awesome selection of Manga, japanese cultured books, and magazines is so neat. Its actually pretty rare nowadays. On my visit, I was not planning to purchase anything. However, to my surprise I left the store with a purchase. Came across a book that Ive been really wanting for sometime: Book of 5 Rings, Miyamoto Musashi. This really made my visit.5 stars for the overall experience. They did an excellent job with their precautions during the Pandemic as well. Felt safe shopping here. Happy to visit again.
I liked the store but unfortunately there isnt much manga in English. Granted it is a Asian store and it will have books in their language but, I do wish there was more of a selection. Also its very crowded there. Very confined space . You gotta rub bodies basically. Lol
Its a great place to find all kinds of reading .the only bad thing about it its the aisles they are so tight. Cant fit people to get through both ways.
Great selection of Manga, and other books. Also they have a miscellaneous of really cute, fun,, interesting stuff
Super neat place with lots of fun stationary and tchotchkes as well as a huge selection of books, magazines, manga, and movies. Always hard to leave!
Great selection of Japanese books from novels to manga. plenty of art books from photography, anime and manga too. there are also English books there, including some rather interesting ones. and you can find a lot of small knickknacks there if youre into those things. they also accept orders for books from Japan, so if you have something specific in mind, definitely ask the staff about it.
An excellent bookstore that my partner and I always enjoy visiting every time were in LA. Even if theres a location near your home like San Jose, this may be different and is worth strolling by. Theres a wide selection of books, manga, and magazines in Japanese and English. Dont expect discounted prices, but youll probably find something worth buying.
Books here are nice and cool, its also pretty cool to walk around and see the products. Recommend if u want to support a local bookstore
Amazing little book store. They have everything I could ever want. Magazines, books for all ages. They carry graphic novels (manga) for the local Otaku. You have to try it once!
Wonderful store with extremely helpful staff. Books not normally found anywhere else can be found here. If they dont have a book, they are willing to look it up and order it for you. Many art books also have a demo book so you can look at it before buying. They also have pens, notebooks, calligraphy supplies and stickers and knickknacks.
Amazing bookstore in Little Tokyo! They sell all kinds of books here. And toys and other accessories worth checking out. What I love the most about this store is that it looks like an actual bookstore from Japan, literally. Its also very warm inside because they have no AC so bring a mini paper fan on warm days. I will definitely be coming back here again!
The best comic store in town! They have a good collection
A variety of manga and books that are in Japanese and English. Theres even art books, yaoi and hentai :O
Always a great variety of things that can interest almost everyone. I always come for my stationary fix or to look for manga and artwork.
Just such a wonderful place to stop in. Well stocked with Japanese books, magazines, stationary, art books and of course manga both in English and Japanese. So many great little items as well. Lots of Miyazaki items.
Fun! Anime! Fooooood!
If you love Anime or anything related to Japan this bookstore is for you. Not only does it carry recently translated manga/light novels, it also has Imported equivalent in their native language. If Anime isnt your thing there is also literature, art, ceramics and art supplies.
I love how it has all the manga I need or want.
I love this place! Such a wide collection of books, manga, art, and more!
Big selection of manga but a guy that worked there was following me also the manga is overpriced.
Variety of merchandise... anime, home items, gifts, plush, keychains, stationaryFigures... pillowsWe loved it all!
Great! Tons of interesting books, magazines, and gifts. Very interesting and aesthetically appealing store.
Nice store! Sorta expensive, but much cheaper than buying Japanese books online. Dont go if you have claustrophobia though, or wish to read books there. There are no seats, so youll have to buy if you want to read.
Wish there’d were more english options, mostly japanese. Like half and half but love it
A lot of different books and manga to choose from. Though, there are quite a lot of series or books that arent available for in-person purchase.
Kinokuniya Bookstore is a good place for Japanese Manga. I only go there at 11:00 AM in the morning. But there is a 30 minute limit when going to the bookstore. But it was worth it.
Great place to spend hours looking at all the cute stuff!
This is such a fun place to go to!If you’re in Little Tokyo definitely walk to this shop and just look around. It is pricey, but they have a loooot! (A Loooot) of manga (even in Japanese!) and different anime accessories, basically whatever you can imagine is there! They also have literature. I was surprised myself to find authors as Kobo Abe and Akutagawa Ryunosuke.Gorgeous books with illustrations from Hayao Miyazaki and Makoto Shinkai movies. They also have plenty accessories of Sanrio world.Mugs, posters, pillowcases, toys, keychains, bags, wallets etc., etc., etc.I bought a poster pack of anime Free! which was a fun to open, because you never know which ones you’ll find inside. $8.99I also purchased Akutagawa Ryunosuke ‘Rashomon and 17 other stories’ $17.It’s a paradise for all anime lovers!
Awesome place, would recommend anyone who loves books to visit this at least once.
Japanese chain book store thats been around for years. My kids love coming here to get anime fix.
Favorite store in lil Tokyo for sur ʕ*◠ᆺ◠ʔ*
I would give it five stars but mostly everything is way overpriced.
Great place for stationary, books, pens, notebooks, manga, Japanese literature
Great little store, you need Japanese books or those fancy pens they got it.
Good selection but high mark up.
A lot of cute and unique Japanese items. A lot of it has cartoon characters on it. Its a great place to buy someone a small gift. Its usually pretty crowded at times so I would avoid it when the anime convention is in town
Crowded but comprehensive manga and japan import books and periodicals.
I went there today and it was really nice in there. they play music and it was lovely. full of stationary but also different types of books. would recommend to anyone and would go again.
Went with my parents and looked through there wasnt really planning on buying anything but left the store with 14 manga lol. It was a bit pricy but hey it depends on which manga you are buying.
Clean, well organized, and amaing selection.
I am so grateful to have this shop so close by. Not only do they have a great selection of manga, but they also have many interesting items and books I cant find in other places. The staff is always nice and polite as well. I bought a book on mushrooms here for my sisters birthday and she loved it! Thank you kinokuniya.
If you are into Japanese pens, pencils, & markers, this place wont let you down. They currently limit the amount of customers inside, so you may have a long wait outside.
It was nice to go through there
Great place to visit and i got one punch man
Great selection of books, manga, gift items and more. Been coming here for over a decade and try to stop in whenever I’m in the neighborhood. A bit on the pricier side, but you know the money is supporting a local business that’s been a staple in DTLA’s Little Tokyo community for decades, so it’s worth it.
I love this book store, you can call or go online to pre order and pick up in person
Manga. Manga everywhere.
Good selection of Japanese and English language books, magazines, and manga, shopping with a great stationary and gifts section.
Heaven on earth if your a huge Anime Fan
Cute stationary. And awesome limited edition finds. They played the rent-a-girlfriend theme and it made my day. Boom. 5 stars.
Great store with a variety of books both English and Japanese!
I do so love a good bookshop - even more so when theyre not a chain. I love how welcoming and inspiring they are, and though its an expensive habit, at least Im getting learning and being transported to different lands and cultures and time periods along the way...
This place is so beautiful. I love it so much it has both languages and amazing customer service! Never going to Barnes and noble again!
I did not have a great first impression because on their website it mostly says that most manga is available when in reality it’s not and that’s the whole reason I went so early to the store. Also nobody can tell you to go in so you just stand outside.I was unsatisfied.
Love this bookstore!
Super cute bookshop. I stumbled upon it while wandering the mission. I thought they had really good coverage of book genres, non-fiction categories, and authors in general. The prices were a tad too high for me so I didnt purchase anything. But I spent a while looking around and was impressed by the collection of books available for purchase.

A bit over priced but its something.
Imagine with me now, a Barnes&Noble bookstore. Take out all the American books, novels, and everything else. Replace it with Japanese books, magazines, graphic novels, stationary supplies, and more. There! Now you have a Kinokuniya!Prices are a bit steep, but most of the goods that they carry are imports or difficult to find. Its always an adventure wandering around in here!
If youre like me and love discovering cute second hand book shops then you will love this place. They have a great number of used and new books which include classic literature to mythology to politics. Basically, there are books covering a lot of diverse topics!
Fun place, good selection for manga in both Japanese and English
I love local bookstores. I love them even more when they are open until 10pm!!! I stopped in here after dinner with a friend and completely fell in love with several books. It is smallish but there is a great selection. I was blown away but the diversity of books there. Bonus....everything was very reasonably priced!
Love coming here for manga, Japanese magazine & pop mart.
Loved it!!They had so many manga and different types of stationery.I would totally recommend coming here if you need some manga!
I love this bookstore! Part art supplies, part manga, part anime merchandise, everything for the budding and veteran anime fan is here.
So many books and magazines to choose fromAlso art supplies, pens, lil trinkets. Friendly staff
Great Mangas both in Japanese and English and Great Variety of Materials
Excellent as always. Great selection of manga in both Japanese and English and all the great knick knacks all around
Had what I was looking for! Great service.
Great selection of books. City lights and this place are my go-to spots to browse new and old books. They carry a diverse range of topics and all the latest releases in both fiction and creative nonfiction. If you live in SF, add to your list when you desire new books to read.
I love this store! If you love stationary, pens(fountain or otherwise) markers, etc. This is the place to go.
A great selection of books that are reasonably priced. I really like that they provide a lot of staff picks with short descriptions, which makes browsing a lot easier. Its also surrounded by delicious eateries like Burma Superstar and Chapeau; perfect for killing time before dinner.
It’s like you’re local anime shop at the mall. Nothing amazing but it’s kills time.
Best prices and selection of manga
Excellent stationary selection, very wide selection of books both in imported Japanese and English- large manga (comic books) section.
My favorite place in Southern California to purchase manga and light novels, staff has been helpful during social distancing measures. I will revisit this place until I run out if literature to buy.
Great organization and prices
Great selection of books
Absolutely love this store. This has an excellent selection of books and magazines in Japanese, language books and tools, kids books, and other English books as well. They also have a lot of great stationary and calligraphy supplies from Japan that are so much better than what youd find in a typical office or Target store. Theyve also got some fun quirky finds that always make a trip inside a delight. Their staff is always incredibly helpful and friendly and never bat an eyelash if you practice your Japanese conversation. This is such a wonderful place and well worth the visit!
Excellent service 👏
The ultimate neighborhood bookstore that understands their location and clientele. Browsing through their inventory and interacting with the helpful sales staff, always puts me in a great mood. Id even travel from distant parts of CA just to shop there - luckily I live only a few blocks away!
Great neighborhood bookstore to browse through on a lazy weekend. They have a good selection of new and used books but you have to keep a lookout to get really good deal. I still like to stop by every now and then and if I get a great book for a dollar while I am at it, that is double the fun!
