Lost the magic it had 20 years ago. American rag used to be right on target. Its most obvious now that the owners have become complacent and are no longer involved and excited about the store like they once were. The sales they used to have were legendary. They always had the greatest new designers and impeccable vintage. The place is still clean but it needs the buzz back.

Great place to pick up your favorite brands from Publish, Candor to Junya Wantanabe. Great service people like Nick Kruse to help you out with you needs to tailor all your aesthetics. They have a wide range of price points from mid tier to high. Brand variety differentiating from what Union carries down the street. If you got time and money to spend and splurge on, this place is it. They also have their own parking garage which a def plus. 1.5 hours with validation which helps alleviate the stressors of finding parking on La Brea.

I have lived in this town for about 12 years now, and I can honestly say this is one of the best boutiques this town has ever had! They have the best, most stylish, comfortable shoes and accessories. They are perfect for work or play. I love this store! The sales associates are so friendly and helpful as well. I highly recommend this boutique for your fashion needs!

A lot will mention that it is expensive but it’s all unique. If a high end boutique this is what you want then they have it here. Even window shopping here is worth stoping by. It’s a well layout and designed store. There is paid parking. It’s steps from dining and other unique shops.

A really cool place! Everything here is top-shelf and there is something for every taste and every style. The associates are very warm and attentive.

Beware of the return policy. This company only accepts returns within 14 days (only extended a tad for holiday season). I bought something for a Christmas gift, which didn’t fit, and by the time I got back to town from our holiday trip the return period had already expired. I came in to return the product two days after the expiration date and the manager refused to accept the return. Could have really used some holiday compassion in this case. I will be telling others not to shop here.

Went there for my Buscemi shoes, and found a whole lot of other items in there that I like. The store fits my style. This place is a gem

Came here to shop for vintage Levis shorts and stopped next door to dine. I had the chicken beet salad and a side of fries. A salad was perfect for the warm and sunny afternoon. It had fresh mixed greens, beets and grilled chicken tossed in a light balsamic vinaigrette.

Perfect place to buy the clothing that shows the world that you have too much of mommy and daddys money to spend. Alternatively, very good place for those going through a mid-life crisis and wanting to dress hip. Staff perfectly obnoxious to fit the clothing.

Great when budget is of no concern! 💸 But there are some deals to found, so come ready to look over everything. If youre not opposed to second-hand merch, then the north side of the store has some great vintage gear. Overall a very thoughtful selection of items and I dont hesitate to shop here when I have a little extra cash to burn.

Went in with a budget of $1,000 for Valentines. First encounter was walking in with a coffee and was arrogantly asked to place near door. Okay I get it wouldn’t want to spill on your treasures. I stepped outside finished my coffee and went back to the same person to inquire the price of a necklace. Waited a few minutes as he leafed through book and he told me he will have to ask a manager.Cut to 15 minutes later I have a couple things in my hand and get a call from the lady and she asked what I’m doing. I let her know I’m shopping for her at “American blah blah” and she tells me she’s not a fan. She is incredibly picky so I suggest we FaceTime so she can decide. Out of nowhere comes an employee informing they don’t allow photography in the same snooty demeaning tone - so I end the call and put the loot back on the rack and left.To conclude, nobody there was never anybody to help shop but rather police policy. The first gentleman never reported back with the necklace price.

Love this store. Just hope all clothing for men were more organized by sections: shirts, sweaters, pants... everything is mixed and quite confusing. You end up spending so much time there and might get frustrating when you dont have so much time. Nice clothing though

The owners are just amazing people who take care of literally everyone who comes in the store like they are the only person in the room. And can I say Hickey Freeman tailored to fit my 68 skinny butt enough?! Um yes please. If youve got the money to spend, its WELL spent here.

Massive store with a kind and helpful staff and a wide variety of clothes.

Fancy apparels and shoes. But do not listen the staff’s advice for shoe size! One of staff gave an advice for italian leather shoes which were tight but he said it would stretch enough. It turned out not true. Basically wasted $480! And they r not like nordstrom. Can’t return the worn shoes!

Ive spent 10s of thousands of dollars and this store and have become really disillusioned with it.1. They point you to the restaurant next door and tell you that you have to buy something to use the restroom - I found out today its the same owner. I mean REALLY how cheap can you be. Your store is enormous chances are I am going to have to piss before leaving the store and youre going to make me buy a coffee to use the restroom??!2. Their winter selection this year sucked. Shoes always suck - get a new buyer. Spring selection sucks. The clientele that can afford your merch is 30+ years old and shouldnt be wearing track pants. It was a fad that will last MAYBE another couple of months. THE WHOLE STORE IS TRACK PANTS.3. No pictures -- GET OVER YOURSELVES. In an age of absolute transparency and visibility youre really worried about me double checking with my friend that I dont look like a total jack ass in your $700 track pants.Looking forward to finding a new store.

They have the most wonderful and appealing displays. Everytime I walk by theres something that I want to walk in and browse.Their sales people are super friendly, always willing to help and chat with you.Prices are super reasonable, even at full price.

Love American Rag. You can find curated vintage goods, hot street wear brands, and higher fashion stuff too.The little restaurant attached to the store is great and the have a little store front as well with great french inspired kitchen gifts and cookbooks.

I got dizzy from the large selection of high quality jeans.Sarcasm removed, its clearly a great shop to visit and knowledgeable staff.

I did not enjoy being in this shop. I wanted to try on a lot of items, but they would only let me have 2 items in the fitting room at the same time which made it so so annoying, having to dress again every time I needed to go out to swop a tried item with a new one! Not being able to see how things would fit together. I ended up not trying half of the stuff I wanted to try. After a long time of being in the shop with a tote bag an employee told me that I was not allowed to bring it into the store, and that was enough for me. I didn’t wanna stay there any longer. Almost feeling like a criminal with eyes watching me all the time. There is also a dude walking around with guns and watching over the store. As a foreigner this was very uncomfortable and strange. I wish I had not spent 10$ on an Uber and waisted my precious vacation time in this place.

I DO NOT GET IT! Maybe its just me but why am I going to pay $100 for a pair of chucks, of $70 for an awkward t-shirt. This place makes no sense to me. It seems like another hipster upstart that in a rational world would have shut down. Not my deal at all, but Im guessing if this is your type of place, Im probably not the best reviewer for you re shopping. Check out my food reviews. Im more of a snob there.

This place has a great variety of clothes, albeit a bit pricey. Clothing is primarily for younger people, but if you can fit into smaller sizes, you can find some really cute things here. Will go back soon!

I bought a t-shirt from American Rag, which was too large so I decided to return it ! I had the receipt and the tag. The guy at the counter actually sniffed my shirt several times and asked me did I wear it ? I told him I tried it on, he actually told me it smelled funny... then he called over another associate who sniffed the shirt and told me it smelled definitely like cigarettes! I have NEVER smoked cigarettes! The only thing I could think of is the fact I was wearing cologne maybe???? In the end they did not take the shirt back and had an attitude!!! I left the shirt and told them to donate it! It was a very insulting experience to say the least!!

Ok where do i start, when I used to Live in the states(Los Angeles) I bought many things in early 90s until late 90s. Many shoes when they have a separate shoe store next door and lots of vintage clothing . Also, before they even have the denim area. bought Many Diesel and Masons when it was hot at the time. The last time I bought from there was Evisu jeans For $175 when no one else carry them in L.A ( that was expensive for jeans at the time) anyway, after that day new hired employees were very snobbish and not friendly. After many years many times visiting L.a new employees getting rude and rude. i went there after many years last week I just recognized security guy still working there...anyway the employees should come down from the high horse. There are more cool stores now in L.A..if you want to purchase from there just ignore the pretentious workers

Awesome clothing on so many levels, great selection of odd intriguing things.

This is the prime example of the main distinction between Los Angeles style and other West Coast cities.Lets start with the store, pretty large, packed, kind of like an authentic Urban Outfitters. Without getting into the demin debate which would take both of us all morning, lets just say its about quality and cut.The main part of the store is split mens and womens with shoes and accessories playing peacekeeper.They sell new and used gear, good quality used gear though, so dont think of it quite like other places. The range of good is from $20 shirts of $2,000 leather jackets and due to the quality of their demin youd looking at $100-$200 for most pairs.I found their used items to be a mish mosh of unappealing items used to slap together outfits. Lacking the combination of unique and well cut and quality, vintage doesnt always mean good or better. I rarely pick up anything from that part of the store, almost exclusively get denim here. Apparently for those of us who come north they have a 2nd location at Fashion Island which Ill probably be checking out from now on. They are generally staffed well, but I wouldnt say friendly in any regard. Helpful in a curt sense, but company return policy is to pretty much laugh in your face. Liken to a Barneys Co-Op.Shoe selection is eclectic from some super cheap quality inexpensive models sitting right next to handmade leathers from Portugal, which to me also a little overpriced.This place is not for everyone as they dont quite cater to everyone and its not necessarily a 1 stop shop.
