Cassell’s has changed quite a bit over the years. The most notable change is the inside decor. It used to be a bit of a ragged dive, but who cares when the food is good?Over the past few years it seems new management has invested in new paint and real chairs and almost fancy wooden tables. Its much cleaner and inviting inside and no longer feels like a secret hole in the wall. I miss that a bit.
I order the regular burger and for the price you pay for it ($5.99) you dont get that much. I do understand that its made from ground steak and real meat, but for the same price, I could get it at the Burger Pit and then some! However I must add that I do love the vegetables and condiments they put on the side for you.
Being very new to the area I am anxious to try all the local chains. Getting a coupon in the free Sunday paper was a great place to start, so my betrothed and I decided to try it out.First Impression (exterior): The sign, new as it may be, was not that easy to see: black background - nice on paper, not on a sign. The parking lot was relatively full - good sign.
I used to love this place way back then....The last time I went there the garlic fries were greasy and soggy and burger was pretty much raw in the middle..with no charcoal taste. It was pretty disappointing. One thing that they still do good is their banana milkshakes. Sure, they use torani syrup and not real bananas, but I dont care...I still like it!
The food is regularly well prepared and flavorful, staff members provides good service. I love the cleanliness and mood. I highly recommend this place.
The burgers here are some of the best in town. I most recently got a Cassell’s burger with swiss cheese. I got mine to go, so I stocked up on condiments from their fresh bar (lettuce, ketchup, mayo, relish, and red onion for me). I got a side of half string onions half fries. I prefer shoestring fries and onion rings, so in the future I might plan to just get the burger here and get my side elsewhere.
The amazing burgers definitely make up for the lack of ambiance. The taste reminds me of something my grandpa would have cooked during the summer on an old charcoal grill at the beach. The choice of cheeses is nice, and they have chicken sandwiches for those who arent feeling burger-y.
The food? Its still very much a famous Kirks burger. Just a bit more expensive and perhaps slightly smaller. If youve never been, try it. If you were turned off by the dive-like atmosphere from 5 years ago, try it again. Youll be surprised.
You want an OG burger, come here. This burger is classic but you can customize it the way you want. They also have sandwiches that hit the spot.
This is based on take out experience. From the moment I called in to place the order to pick up my order from the restaurant, staff were courteous and efficient. We ordered Cheeseburger, Bacon Cheeseburger and Mushroom Swiss along with onion rings, onion strings and French fries. Everything was PERFECT and cant wait to place another takeout orders! Thank you Cassell’s!!
Went in here on my break to get a Cassell’s! Havent had one in years and the last time I tried to visit they had just closed, only making the craving worse haha. I went in to use the yelp coupon (it only works for buy one get one, even though the coupon button just says free Cassell’s). Super nice guy named Frank was at the cashier and gave some good recommendations.
Burger is good as I remember it from the first location on 6th street & Serrano, but the bread is a little smaller, back then needed 2 hands 2 pick it up, quality is the same, brought home two 😋
Really good chicken sandwiches . And from what Ive heard, the patty melt is delicious. Highly recommend the place.
It was soooo great to have a BBQed burger when the weather was rainy, windy and miserable! The garlic fries and pineapple shake were also yummy with my Cassell’s with cheese.
I originally planned on coming here for my cheat day but my roommate wanted burgers and I live 4 blocks away so we ended up here! This place received great reviews on MSN. Voted in the top 100 burgers in the USA. *Side Note it was a non cheat day for me* i got the lettuce wrapped burger and these tater spuds my roommate got the chicken sandwich and shake. Great taste on both being that I didn’t get a bun or a shake I’ll be back soon to redeem both on my next cheat day! Staff super friendly great vibe and set up! I’ll be back for sure!
One of those oldies but goodies with the original location in Koreatown. Sadly, I never made it to that location so Im glad that I finally made it to their newest location in dtla. Its a small store with brick walls. There are several inside seating. At the entrance, youll be greeted with a carousel of wonderful pies Cassells is known for.I approached the counter and placed my order for a Tallahassee patty melt. Unlike the traditional patty melt, this one had Mac n cheese, bbq sauce, and caramelized onions.I was surprised how big this patty melt was. Patty was very thick. It was warm, toasty and served with perfectly crisped cheesy edges. I planned on eating only half but its so delicious that I never stopped after its all gone.I was so full that even if I wanted to try one of their delicious pies, I had no room. I had to come back another day to try it and perhaps a shake.
I always have a pleasant experience when I go to Cassell’s Hamburgers DTLA on both a culinary as well as customer service level. i.e. This place has the form and content! The counter man, Frank, and the other employees are always friendly and attentive to me, making sure I get what I like and like what I get. The condiment bar is incredible also with its vast array of delectable choices to enhance any burger.....Highly recommend this establishment that has stood the test of time!
Everything I tried here was very delicious. I had the breakfast burger which was the best thing Ive eaten in a while. My hubby had the DFC which was tasty but too spicy for me. The kids had a burger and a chicken sandwich shakes which were so chocolatey delicious and I tried my bro in laws truffle spuds and peanut butter pie that were amazing! Would definitely recommend the food here. The service is the best I have ever had in a casual restaurant. Would give more than 5 stars if available!
I was expecting more frankly speaking. Place is very nice, kitchen super clean etc. Burgers are OK I was expecting more. I ordered medium rear and I got medium close to well done. Sauce was ok. Mustardy mayo is good. They were out of vanilla Cole and cherry Coke house made otherwise I would have tried that. The server made a few mistakes forgetting or adding something, but was not a big deal.
Had a couple of good veggie options as well. The place had a very vibrant feel. It has a great charm and excellent organic food. The prices are reasonable.
My preferred location for delicious Burgers. I wanted to post a food pic but it looked so good I couldnt stop. I had a brother come into town and asked me to take him back here. Bring your appetite because portions are large. Reminds me of a cafe in Chicago I loved to visit.
I love this place! Rocky Point burger with an egg is the BEST! Its a chili burger with a fried egg. Amazing! The staff is very nice and friendly. They offer beer and wine which is great. They have great specials and good prices.
Burgers at this spot - super tasty. excellent spot to spend time alone or talk business. the staff was very friendly and attentive. food is like a restaurant in louisville i loved.
I went through the drive thru to try their new cheesesteak melt. It was alright. There were 2 cars ahead of me but the wait time wasnt long. The guy working the drive thru was super nice and had a genuine smile. Great attitude! I come here every so often and while the food is alright, the service has always been great.
My favorite spot for Burgers. I love this place, excellent food & service. Definitely worth a return trip. It has a cool interior.
This place never disappoints! Reasonable prices for the quality, great-tasting and high-quality food is what youll find here. These burgers are Excellent!! Dont forget the a side of cripsy goldens on the side!! The wait can be long on occasion so be sure to call ahead and place your order.
Good place for burgers. The food was super appetizing. Looking forward to coming back with my friends. This place has a cool design.
A favorite location for tasty Burgers. loved this place from the first taste. i see why this place has a lot of positive reviews.
Props to their to-go set up. They kept everything separate so that the burger would not go soggy. They have a special sauce that goes on the burger that’s like an elevated thousand dressing. I recommend getting a milkshake. It makes that good experience better.
A preferred place for tasty burgers. The service was helpful and kind. Food is similar to a cafe in Portland I loved.
My preferred scene for Burgers. the place has a great atmosphere. similar to a cafe in las vegas i liked.
I walked in right before 11pm when they close, yet they still provided me with excellent service and a great tasting burger. In my opinion, this is what a burger tasted like back in the day. Its hard to fully describe, but its a clean, crisp taste that takes me back to the little dinner my grandma used to take me to as a kid.The bun is amazing and toasted to perfection. The patty is grilled to your specifications. Toppings come on the side so you can add as little or as much veg as you want. The only other place I know of that makes a burger that comes close to this is the Bake and Broil on Atlantic in Long Beach.I also ordered a side of potato salad. I love potato salad and usually order it whenever its on the menu. The consistency is almost that of mashed potatoes, which is my favorite way to eat it. Not sure if the menu specifies, but it is made with horse radish. My Mom, who loved horse radish would have been in seventh heaven. I myself, am still cultivating a taste for it, so that being said, I found the flavor a bit overwhelming and unfortunately did not finish it, which is rare for me. I still consider it to be a well crafted dish, even though it was not to my liking.Unfortunately, I didnt have room for trying either one of their signature milk shakes or a slice of one of their delicious looking home made pies.Knowing the quality and demand for this places burgers, I consider my dining experience quite a privilege. Ill definitely be back!
A hidden gem! 1950s style restaurant known for their burgers, however they should also be known for their chicken sandwiches because they are amazing! The service was great (thanks Van!). Visited during lunch and it was a comfortable crowd - not too many people. Again the food & service was great! Highly recommend.Small, casual restaurant.
This has been a family favorite for years and never disappoints! Cheese burgers are juicy, lettuce is never wilted and the service friendly!
Ordered a medium rare burger and got a rare/blue burger. Server immediately took it back and got me a new burger... Which was cooked well done. So, I didnt get what I wanted but it wasnt a bad burger... Had the beef patty been cooked correctly it might have been a great burger since the patties had a great sear on both sides (both of the incorrectly cooked patties). As it was, it was just meh.
Great burgers and a fun location. We got a burger, the tuna melt, some regular fries and some sweet potato fries. We loved everything but the sweet potato fries -- they were tasty, but they have a cinnamon/sugar flavor which none of us thought was a great pairing with the burgers and sandwiches. Otherwise, we really enjoyed everything. Definitely coming back in the future.
This is our go to restaurant when we want a hassle free, well-managed, comfort-food place! All the staff is wonderful - the owner Manuel often stops by the table to say hi and welcome us - service is fast and friendly and the food is totally yummy!
Cool vibe, staff fantastic. Burger and fries alright. Was expecting better at the price. Really appreciate the non single use dishes.
Burgers and the scene here is quality. service is always timely even when they have a full house. the service was very sociable and kind. it has a nice atmosphere.
This is single handedly the best milkshake and burger combo I have ever experienced. You know that feeling when you think, I really want one of those amazingly mouthwatering burgers and a good thick shake to wash it down but you strive and look and everything just comes up short. That feeling is gone if you go here. Very friendly staff and amazing food. I will make sure to ALWAYS come back here whenever I visit LA.
Great Great Great Great Great Burgers. Did I mention that they are Great! It is in a part of town you would not normally visit but it is worth the trip. Food taste like they care unlike these so called fast food places out there.
I recently ate here with my great Uncle. Im writing a short review because he doesnt really use the internet. 1)After finishing his wedge salad he said it was the best hed ever had and told the waiter to congratulate the kitchen. 2)On the way out he leaned toward the waiter and said, youd be crazy to go to the shake shack. The food here is as good as the Korea Town location. Other things on the menu will temp you but dont stray from the burger, fries and wedge salad.
We spent five days in downtown. We had great sushi, delicious dogs, and quality Mediterranean. But this place... this place exists as a small slice o heaven nestled in the underbrush of the DTLA cityscape.Food is amazing. Flavors are paired so perfectly that each bite is its own experience. YOU MUST EAT HERE!Without Cassells in your life, you are worsening your existence.
One of the best burgers in town. This location has a cold cut/Italian sandwich that is top notch (really good for sharing). The spuds, IMO, are the best prepared potatoes in town. Im not sure why this is only served in the DTLA location. I highly recommend you try both and share both.
Juicy flavorful burgers. Amazing sweet potato fries with generous sprinkling of cinnamon. The apple pie ala mode blew me away, though! Best Ive had in a long time! Highly recommend.
The taste of the burgers (patty, bun, etc) is excellent, and the meat has a noticeably better flavor than most other burger shops around. Its a little tough to justify spending ~2-3 times per burger as compared to Shake Shack (literally across the street) though. The ventilation wasnt good when I visited and sat at the 2nd level seats next to the kitchen, maybe because the windows dont open. I smelled really strongly of beef grease leaving the restaurant.
Best food I have had I a LONG time. Went after watching an instagram story and I do NOT regret it one bit. Great prices good portions and unbelievable flavors!
Really cool place. Food is amazing. I recommend it for sure.
Cant give 4.5 stars. If I were to ding the place it could only be for lack of parking, but thats almost everywhere downtown. This is the best real burger in Los Angeles and their truffle spuds are deadly good. If you like food 100 real, cooked to order, and the simplicity of perfection, this is where you go. They serve breakfast too. Quality is what stands out!
GET THE PATTY MELT! it was incredible. So was their Vegan pie. Not many places to sit so I am sure it gets crowded. Go late night for faster service!
Burgers... super good. Went there on a Friday I think. Fast and courteous service. It has a cool feel to it.
We went here since my sister was craving burgers. I wasnt expecting much but was very happy with their vegan option. Im no longer a vegan but will always choose the vegan options if available. The vegan burger was delicious and I was told the patty is housemade. I also ordered the sweet potato fries and the vegan/gluten-free chocolate peanut butter pie. Even though I only ate half of my burger & took the rest home it was still good the next day, including the pie. What really impressed me was the staff & how attentive they were. I dont usually have high expectations with casual spots but every single person who worked there on Sunday surpassed my expectations!
I cant even begin to describe just how awesome the food here is. The patty melt, fried chicken sandwich, bfast burrito, grilled cheese, chocolate malt, and housemade ginger beer have convinced me happiness can be bought. The food is perfect and the pies we had to finish the meal were exactly what my life has been missing the last few months. Bring your friends and an appetite. If you dont have friends, make some by bringing people here. Perfect food.
Staff was extremely friendly and fast! Didnt have to wait long at all for my order and my chocolate shake was perfect! Definitely will go back again.
Very informative. The animals appear to be well cared for and healthy, which is very important when any animal is in captivity. Lovely gift shop.
Now Im hungry thinking about it lol! I love their burgers and fries. Everything is very fresh.
Amazing cheeseburger! They have in house made pie and soda. They have great service and its worth to try their food!
Excellent hamburgers and service. Ill definitely be back. If you enjoy really good hamburgers and fries give this place a try!
Burgers and service here is above par. the food was so savory. staff treated us so nice. bring your hunger - portions are generous.
A favorite spot for quality burgers. It was so delicious. I will be back with my relatives. The bill was appropriate for the quality. Food is similar to a cafe in Indianapolis I loved.
Good food. Fun vibe. Friendly staff. Manager/owner was extremely generous and attentive.
IF you want a burger and fries like you make at home this is the place. It is small yet quaint place but the food is delicious. best Berger ever.
Truthfully I prefer the location on Wilshire, but this joint nailed the egg salad sandwich (its a 10 👌) & the staff are insanely cute.
Fine place for tasty Burgers. Visited about four, it was not full. Next time Ill be back with my relatives. Prices that are reasonable.
I had the lemon ice box and banana dulce de leche pies. both excellent
Burgers... super tasty. There was quick, helpful, and friendly service. Food is like a restaurant in Jacksonville I loved.
Not the best service. I came in and the waitresses looked at me and turned their head several times . I was finally seated and still not the best service... second time this has happened not returning ...
I love the vanilla milk shake with malt they have. Also great pies !
Classic burgers and sandwiches, service is a little gruff but attentive.
Really enjoy the breakfast burger. On the greasy side but its delicious. The pies are on point.
Great tasting burgers.Friendly service.Definitely will be coming back
Burgers cooked to order. Crispy fries and Chocolate milkshakes with little pieces of chocolate nibs. I enjoyed staring at the rotating dessert stand too. Will try dessert next time.😜
Best patty melt ever great service cant wait to eat breakfast tomorrow thatll be next review
I placed an order with them on Grubhub. When the Grubhub driver delivered only half the order, I called the restaurant, which argued with me and insisted that I never ordered 2 of the items, despite them very clearly being on my receipt. The crew would rather lie to you than read.
The burgers are great, the fries are great. The breakfast food is soooo good. Prices are reasonable.I wont stop going cause the food is amazing, but I cant give them five stars.
Great burgers... But why do they ask how I want it cooked if its always well done no matter what I say?
Their Patty Melts are 🔥!!!!!! Customer service is on point and I havent tried their pies or shakes but they looked fresh and absolutely mouth watering! Will be coming back for some 😋
Going back. Hope to see you thereOne of the best burgers in DTLA. A-1 service. Go!
High quality, hand made burgers with a good selection of unique pies.
Nothing to complain about. The staff was very helpful and observant. Food is like a restaurant in Jacksonville I loved.
Great 🍔! Juicy, cooked to temp I requested and friendly staff.
The service was outstanding and the burger was very delicious.
Tasty burgs. Tasty water. Tasty stairs.
