I got to the market late and wandered around before circling by this place. The donuts don’t look like anything special in the display but the cheap prices on the board made it pretty hard to walk away without trying at least 1, or 4 items. All the basic ones run for about 1.50 while the specialty ones range from $2 to $6. They’re apparently super famous for their fresh fruit donuts which were currently strawberry and peach. I’m also not a fan of the overly sweet desserts and the fruit in the middle seemed covered in syrup which is never my go-to so I went with their basic raised rounds instead. We got the regular glazed and a maple glazed.Listen, I was blown away with how good this was. It’s the right amount of sweet, with the dough crispy enough to hold its shape with the inner layers moist and decadent. I finished my share and was still wanting to go in for more. 10/10 Would recommend.
I havent been to Grand Central Market in a while, A LOT has changed. The mercado vibe is gone, no more produce stands, no butcher, only a few old stands remain. Now, the vibe is more of a food court that can please so many cravings. I am not a donut person BUT the donut man challenged me today! Haha this place has a revolutionary approach to donuts to attrack people like me to enjoy their creations! So much that Im typing this review! Thumbs up to this spot. Their donut were amazing!
Maybe the best donuts I’ve ever had! Made fresh right in front of you. The donuts themselves are delicate and have a great flavor. The stuffed ones I had expected to be overly sweet and make me feel way too full. I’m happy to say they are not overly sweet or filling! You can taste that everything is fresh and high quality. I’m so glad they opened in the grand central market, which is way closer to me than their main location in Glendora. We went between 8-9am and only had to wait a minute. Will be back!
This place is so bomb I had to get my hands on this beautiful work of art. If your lucky the line isn’t as bad waited less then 2 minutes and was assisted by this gentleman. He was so quick to box and serve it if I could give ten stars I would cause my Lordy it’s so good. The savory sweetness of this delicious pastry coats your mouth causing a warm feeling of satisfaction in your tummy. So yes I highlighy recommend this place to everyone.
Now this place right here!!!! OMG! Someone made a video about must eats of L.A. and boy did they get it right. The signature is the Strawberry donut, which is so beautiful you just want to take have someone taxidermy it, preserve it and put it on your mantle. My alcoholic wife was having a blast up in there with all the varieties. She loves a big donut if u know what I mean! Lol. We got the chocolate iced, Maple iced, the Strawberry filled, one regular glazed and the cinnamon twist, and the surprise best donut of the night, The Peanut Butter and Jelly Donut, make sure you say that again real slow. It had such a good flavor. It might have been home made Butter and jelly cuz this wasnt your average Jelly. The employee was very kind and patient as my drunken wife and I tried to navigate the menu! My wife told me from now on everytime we come to L.A. The Donut Man has to come in our mouth, to which I responded, Wait What? LOL. Excellent experience, we will be back!
My wife and I were at Grand Central Market two weekends ago. It amazes me how strong the mom and pop donut shops are in Southern California. We walked past The Donut Man as one of their employees was putting all of those fresh strawberries into the donut. We knew we had to have one! It was $6.00, but it was big enough that two people could share it. It was one of the freshest donuts I have ever had. The taste of the donut kind of reminded me of funnel cake from the boardwalk. Sometimes you just have to splurge! I understand why they have been around since the early 1970s.
Now an octogenarian, his mid-life career change seeing Jim Nakano open The Donut Man on Route 66 in 1972, Angelinos can finally save the lengthy drive to Glendora thanks to a kiosk serving precisely the same quality product at Grand Central Market.Tucked just inside the Broadway entrance since June of 2020, hours from 8:00am until 9:00pm not quite 24/7 like the original, guests will nonetheless find over twenty fried-fresh varieties, $6 premium pricing for the famous “Fresh Strawberry” admittedly precious while $1.35 for still-warm Cake with Frosting and Sprinkles is a bargain for DTLA.Visibly making every Donut on-site, Cinnamon Rolls not yet ready at 8:05am but Crullers still steamy amidst the eggy matrix, fans of an Old Fashioned will be hard-pressed to find one with mmore melt-in-the-mouth texture thanks to plenty of Sour Cream and deeply penetrating Glaze.Claiming the difference between Donut Man and broad competition is that of “the best oil” and “pride,” diners should probably consider sharing the weighty PB&J with a friend considering the glut of Peanut Butter while saving some of that stomach capacity for Nakano’s yeasty Cinnamon-striped Tiger Tail.
This place was so good. It is worth the line and worth the hype. The maple donut was one of the best I’ve ever tried - I went back a few hours later after wandering LA to get another one!! My friends spoke highly of the strawberry donut. The cashier was extremely nice and she gave us all “Donut Man” stickers for free.
The bread was good but I paid over $6 for a fresh strawberry donut and the strawberries were soir and no eat able.I told the cashier and she was rude and told me OK. that was her solution. Disappointed
A wild adventure into donuts. Not just donuts that look wild be are adventurous to the pallet. I tried the maple bar that must have been a foot long. The consistency was thicker then I am used to be it was delicious. I had also tried the pb and J donut and that was incredible. The inside had jelly and a peanut butter puree, or maybe it was a custard. It was not as thick and dry as normal peanut butter is. The frosting on top added that punch of berry kick to the whole experience!! Definitely a recommendation for donut fans!!
Their peach donut was one of the best invention!! So flavorful, so juicy, and not too sweet! I am not a donut person, but I truly loved their peach donut I wish I can find something like that in NY!
As of 7/2, The Donut Man is open at Grand Central Market (at the Hill St. side entrance) and serving loads of strawberry donuts. I used to ride my bike 20 miles to the Glendora location just to get my strawberry donut fix (still a net calorie gain?), and now Im glad that they opened one near my office. Everything else is just as good, and personally I like the tiger tails and frosted sprinkles. ENJOY!!!
Donuts here are excellent. The texture is nice and soft and the flavors avoid tasting too artificial which is a common problem at your run of the mill donut joint. I highly recommend the Bavarian cream filled chocolate donut. I also enjoyed the tiger tail and PB&J. Though their seasonal fresh fruit donut is quite good, I do not think its worth the hefty $6 price tag. Probably a better idea to divert those funds to 2-3 other selections from their delicious collection.
Gaahhhh DAMMN that might just be the best donut Ive ever had. Im talking about the famous strawberry donuts. Despite the looks, not overly sweet. The fresh Strawberries dominate the flavor w the bread accenting it so well 😌👌🏾
Possibly the best regular glazed donut Ive had. They dont have a lot of unique flavors like some other places but still really good.
If you have never experienced a Donut Man donut, you havent truly lived.I am a huge donut fan. I once read an article about the top donut stores in California, and have made a tour of many of them. The Donut Man is always number 1.Also, I went when it was my birthday and they gave me 2 chocolate covered strawberries for free. They rock! There are 2 locations now and neither one is close. I dont care. I will drive anywhere for these strawberry stuffed donuts.
Good if you’re really craving sugar but otherwise too sweet.
I love donuts and was so excited about grabbing some of these donuts on the way out from Grand Central Market. Where to start? I ordered a tiger tail, sprinkled, chocolate cake and chocolate old fashioned.1. Tiger Tail - donut was really soft but the flavor was so off, almost like one of the ingredients went stale. Only took two bites and into the trash it went.2. Sprinkled - again, nice and soft but the flavor of the icing and sprinkles was so weird and unpleasant. Again, one bite and into the trash.3. Chocolate Cake - this one had much better flavor, really soft and chocolatety. This donut is my least favorite of ALL but their version is the best Ive had.4. Chocolate old fashioned - my husband enjoyed it with his coffee this morning, said it was good!Another place that seems its more about the hype. I dont think Ill be returning.
Donuts are amazing. Soft with a nice chew. Filling in the donuts is perfect, not too sweet but not bland either. Disappointed I wasn’t able to try the cream cheese donut. I will be back.
I love buying some of their strawberry filled donuts. They are oh so good.
Tried to get some donuts yesterday and the entire case was full of bees! Not sure why, but it was INFESTED. And they were still open, which is disturbing. Hard pass.
The donuts are delicious and fresh, a lot of flavors. Amy was extremely nice and patient with me explaining all the flavors. Definitely I am coming back in my next visit to LA
Insanely huge doughnuts! But amazing! Some would call me a doughnut conassuir of sorts. you have to judge a place by the staple raised glazed doughnut. i did! and 5stars!!!
Donuts are incredible. Honey buns are big as steering wheels. LOL. This place is great youll enjoy every bite of it.
Wide range of donuts with seasonal offerings like strawberry and apple. Which are amazing by the way, its what theyre known for! All their other standard offerings for donuts are spectacular! Not too oily or sweet with just the right amount of density. You can tell just biting into one, the perfection behind the recipe! The shop itself is at the outer edge of the Grand Central Market area so theres a lot of airflow, that means a couple of flying insects here and there. But its the same for all the venues that share the space. Nothing to contact the food inspectors over. The owner, Jim Nakano, was there while I was waiting in line and he blessed me with a fresh plain twist donut! It was heavenly and I feel so humbled by the encounter!
They always run out and when I asked for an apple and a peach (since they ran out of strawberry), he gave a peach but instead of the apple he dropped a chocolate glazed donut. Very poor management and when we tasted them, they are not what the hype is all about. I will never buy donuts with them again.
Best donuts I have ever had. I got an apple filled and a tiger tail. The apple donut was packed with filling but was not overly sweet, creating a perfect balance between filling and donut. Tiger tail was super fresh with a great consistency in the bite of the donut. Ill be back to try the other flavors.
The peach filled and strawberry filled donuts were both so good
Just stopped by because I didnt feel like going to glendora for donuts. Was surprised by how great the customer service was here. The donuts themselves are just as great as their original counter part. The cashier was super helpful and amazing. She is the main reason why I am writing this. There should be more people just like her in the world. Very informative, sweet, and didnt mind that I asked a ton of questions. Thank you Jane!! (Didnt catch your name)
I had the cruller, the cream cheese with blueberry, & the pb&j. It was delicious; well worth the wait in line. Keep ‘em coming; I’ll be back for more!
Its definitely a special kind of donut. Get the strawberry and the seasonal fruity ones. They are $6 and you may think it’s pricey but they are big! Other’s are honestly mediocre at best. I like how the strawberries are juicy and not too mushy. I like how the fruits are not too sweet.Strawberry and peach ones are 5 stars, but all others are not memorable. Of course I didn’t try all of them but did get a box of all their best sellers (wont do that again). Next time, i will just get their best selling strawberry and maybe the seasonal fruit donut.

I ordered the strawberry 🍓 donuts, but they are not 100% fresh 🙁🤮... the regular donut are ok 😕... The price is so high for the product, you can buy better donuts... Not going again.
Their famous strawberry-filled doughnuts were a little too sweet for me, but I can see why everyone likes them!
This place is not good and it’s super expensive. The dough tastes extremely refried—— change your oil! Your donuts taste gross. Worst donut I have ever had. $12 down the toilet. Save your money and hit up Donut King in Koreatown.
I have to admit, I’ve only been to this location twice since it opening and honestly I thought I’d be here more than that by now but nope. Regardless, I love DonutMan! Been going to this Glendora location for years! Everyone raves about the strawberry donut but I like their peach donut which sadly is only available for 2 months during the year. However on my trip yesterday I got the PB&J doughnut and it was pretty good! Def a fan.
Strawberry donut is amazing! Available February thru September. Bring an extra home. Delightful!
Yummmm! Strawberry filled donut is THE BEST!! So happy I can have this treat without driving out to Glendora!
The most amazing donut. One of my favorite in the world. The seasonal fruit donut is the specialty. I have had peach, strawberry and now apple. The quality and variety is the appeal. Must have. Trust me.
Bought into the hype. Always wanted to try it.Total disappointment.Plus the heavy set girl working at the counter was rude as hell.
Visiting family in LA and I was really excited to see thislocation was finally open. Excitedly drove downtown looking forward to finally trying the strawberry donut I keep seeing in all the photos. Plot twist - I left empty handed because the donuts had flies, gnats and some kind of wasps all over them. Im talking about the donuts in the case as well as on the racks. We were in shock. And the workers were just standing around not even trying to shoo them away. Just really disgusting and unsanitary. If theyre letting flies crawl all over the food in public I can only imagine what goes on behind the scenes.ETA: wow, Im seeing a number of people comment about the fly/bee situation. I wish I had seen those reviews before I visited. Flies carry so much bacteria. I would not risk eating here and the owners clearly dont care about the health and safety of their customers.
Best jelly donut on the west coast
Loved it! It was everything I had anticipated. So glad theyre finally in LA.
Cashier was nice and talktive. The donuts were tasty. They were all out of the peanut butter and jelly donut and didnt have stickers. D: Will definitely come down again when Im back in LA.
Love this donut joint. Workers are usually so kind and upbeat, donuts always taste fresh and plump!
Its the same Donut Man from Glendora. Delicious and made on the spot.Definitely a must stop
Consistently really good coffee. Also consistently amazing people working the counter. The interactions are quick, but so far, I have exited in a more uplifted mood than when I entered.
Delish!
X Ray is my favorite
I asked for one Bavarian cream donut without chocolate on top and he made an extra one and gave it for free!
Love the strawberry donuts. Friendly staff and short lines.
Way over priced much smaller then original location. I’ll drive to Glendora next time.
I am one step closer to diabetes
Man, Donuts. Cheap, good, what more could you ask for.
The food is delicious and the service was great.
Yummy doughnuts worth the drive
The donuts are fine but the milk is wayy too expensive
The donuts are good, but weve gone there 3 times and the girl behind the counter got my order wrong twice. Pay attention to your order before leaving the counter.
Friendly staff and there open during covid-19 there open late till 9pm or till they run out
Fresh donut. Patience stuff
A must go for seasonal fruit donuts!
Fresh strawberry donut is yummy!
Best donut in LA
Killer maple crullers
Excellent! Worth the drive.
Strawberry- the best
Rápido todo fresco excelente
They lack variety and more cleanliness there are flies
Sometimes there is no drink service!
