GarageI’ve used Pena Garage Doors four to five times at my property but never have I had a problem before. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was significantly bad. When I initially called and told the receptionist (Irem) the the problem (wheel & pin popped off the track & belt hanging from track) I was quoted the cost of $195). When pressed and asked what the $195 specifically cover, she could not tell me. In a bind, I reluctantly I acquiesced and made an appointment for the following morning (November 9).The next day Carlos arrived at my door without giving me the agreed upon call prior to his arrival. I let him in, showed him the problem & left him to the issue. Approximately 30 minutes later he called me into the garage and showed me where he’d replaced the wheel and pin. He then informed me the the belt was no good and he’d need to replace it, an additional $125. ($320 Total)Carlos had to leave my home in order to pick up the new belt and returned, as promised within 30 minutes. Upon his return he looked at the top of the garage door opener and informed me that the bolt the belt goes around was broken. (an additional $125) ($445 Total). In that conversation Carlos said it would be more economical to simply get another garage door opener all together, which would total $450. When I asked he and the receptionists what brand I would get, they informed me Genie. I was adamant that I had a LiftMaster and wanted it replaced with a LiftMaster. Both Carlos & the receptionist agreed I would get the LiftMaster and be charged a total of $450 for everything (parts, service, etc…). I agreed to meet Carlos back at my home the next day at 10am.The next day (November is p @ 10am) Carlos came to my home and went straight to work. He completed the work in less than an hour but imagine my surprise (and disgust) when he informed me the total was now $575, not $450.I was given two reasons for this:1. that morning when Carlos was leaving, the owner inquired as to why he was leaving with a LiftMaster instead of a Genie. When Carlos disclosed our previous discussion & agreement, the owner was not inclined to honor that agreement and stated Carlos had to charge me $5752. The service fee of $125 had not yet been appliedI asked Carlos why he had not informed me of the price change when I let him in the house that morning and before performing the work. He said an email invoice had been sent to me previously. When I retrieved my email, in fact, it was there but I’d not had the opportunity to see it before the work was done.So here I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Do I pay the unexpected, exorbitant fee or do I have Carlos put the old LiftMaster back up and still pay the fee of $320?As you can imagine, I reluctantly paid the $575 but feel this bait and switch could now be a practice of there’s. This is my way of informing the public before you’re swindlers too.My letter to the Better Business Bureau, requesting further investigation, is already in the mail.
