This was a childhood favorite. I used to get the Monster Chili Spaghetti back in the 1990s. I took my wife here for breakfast for her birthday weekend as we live out of town. My club had one tomato, one slice of turkey, one slice of turkey bacon, one slice of lettuce. I asked for no cheese and there it was with American. I took the cheese off and look under the hood...it was underwhelming to put it nicely. Our server never checked on us but the manager did notice we didnt want to take the uneaten sandwich to go. I politely explained why at the register and she told him to take the sandwich off and the extra charge for the turkey bacon. Her intervention was so appreciated. So sorry that I have to leave this here. I dont expect a lot, but the Twig was always ten times better than the chain diner. Just a memory now. I love all who appreciate their breakfasts. They do well with this it seems.
My favorite diner of all time. Wonderful anytime of day but especially those drizzly mornings. Enjoy the breakfast or one of my favorites, the womb to the tomb. So glad the owners keep this place alive. A wonderful part of Louisville history.
Great little diner for breakfast. I got the Double Loop and loved the crispy bacon, seasoned home fries and perfectly toasted toast.
Always have and always will be my go to spot since moving to Louisville in 2014. The amazing community people that run it have been nothing but loving and hard working. ❤️
Great breakfast, location, prices. Nothing flashy with the restaurant decor but great potential. Friendly staff as well.
Great place in a beautiful area..got there late on Saturday lady was cool let us eat food was great cooks know what they are doing will be back for sure..
We ordered a Kentucky Hot Brown, a double bacon cheese chili burger and a fried chicken sandwich. The hot brown had turkey lunch meat and was mostly just canned cheese sauce. I found hair in the chili burger. It was also covered in cheese sauce. The fried chicken sandwich also had a hair on the bun. The server replaced the bun. The fries were good. The server was nice. I wont be returning. 6//15/2021.
The coffee is really dang good. The staff is friendly and service was fast and precise. I like people who interact with my kid and take considerations for that fact that he is so young (like bring his drink in a cup with a lid automatically or not bringing him a plate of food that is burning hot until its cool enough for him to eat, AND bringing it out sooner so he doesnt have to wait very long). I got breakfast and it is really good, I will definitely be coming back. Food is inexpensive, love the diner atmosphere. Not a lot of stimulation, very calm homey kind of feel. Ive been to this place off and on for years from a young age and I think its better now than ever. Parking was convenient too. Its a cold night out but we are warm in here even sitting by the window. And my kid is eating his food! Which is kind of rare, so WIN! I recommend for sure!
Best morning.. hit the spot. Great service
While driving through kentucky, had the pleasure of stopping by this fine dinner. Had the roast beef manhattan, it was mouth watering. Great server, the young man knew how to provide exceptional service.
Been wanting to check this place out for a long time. Wish I hadnt waited. Home made food fantastic! Waitress was great. Went for breakfast and cant wait to go back for lunch.
My son and I love this place. Its fantastic if you just want to grab a decent breakfast to get your day started. No fancy coffee, no smashed avocado with salmon...just a massive selection of American favorites. Great place to go when you dont want to mess up your kitchen!*** Update April 2019 *** Popped in again for a quick breakfast and was not disappointed. Quick service and tasty, well-loved favorites. I wolfed down a southwest omelette and the boy had the BEST french toast ever - it was pretty darn good AND they have REAL Canadian maple syrup now too. DECENT!
Ive wanted to visit here for years, and so glad I finally did! Delicious food for a great price! Cute, diner atmosphere, very attentive staff!
Ate breakfast, food was great, good service,The Temperature in the building is 85 degreesHot and muggy owner cuts corners to save money and turns off the AC at 3pm closing time.
Ate breakfast there this morning. Me and my wife lived it. Rae was best waitress we have seen in a long time. Food was great. Thanks for starting our day with a great meal.
Great location. And Twig and Leaf has been around for a long time; it is a designated landmark. Its a diner and the menu reflects its lineage. The food is good, not fancy and not quite up to the standards of a good greasy spoon. Breakfast anytime is always a plus and they do it well. Nothing fancy, the French toast is done right with some powdered sugar on top for presentation. Bacon is crispy and eggs cooked the way you want them; over medium was just that. My wife had the chicken sandwich and fries - LOVED the sandwich, but the onion rings appeared to be from freezer to deep fat fryer.Great views from your booth with floor to ceiling windows looking right out onto Bardstown Road and Douglass circle. Its clean with molded seatlets at the bar and booths with the same molded seats/tables. The seating isnt uncomfortable, though I never really got comfortable.Service was okay. Our server took our order and got it, but she wasnt happy to be there. My guess is that she was working because she had to; granddaughter of the owner.I walked so I cant swear to the parking situation though there is street parking and theres a bus stop right outside the front door.3 stars as a restaurant, but as a Highlands landmark with good not great food (except the chicken sandwich), its a 4 star.
Great local diner with typical dinner food and friendly service.
Great breakfast..French toast...and good service!
Dining there made me feel like a kid in my small town. The service was delightful and the food delicious. Not fancy at all - great hangover food!
Nice selection of food at reasonable prices. Cooked 🍳 to order and usually very tasty.
My boyfriend and I go every Sunday morning! Twig and Leaf has great food, friendly service, and a comforting atmosphere. I highly recommend you visit this local gem.
Customer service was aces, food was great, easy parking along streets. Family owned and operated.
Good for Breakfast-->Brunch;Closes early.
Food was ok, but the grill needs to be cleaned. We smelled like burnt food after we left. The place just smells like there was a fire in it. I miss the days when it was nice and clean.
Had a wonderful meal at Twig & Leaf today when visiting Bellarmine University. The only thing better than our food was the service. Thanks Rae! 👍🏻
Great diner, fantastic breakfast and good coffee at a reasonable price. Will absolutely be back. Felt safe during the pandemic.
Great for a hearty breakfast.
A step back into time away from the franchises. Great food!
A nice little old fashioned style dinner, with really good food. Reasonably priced. Employees are polite.
Access and parking are convenient. The restaurant is clean and organized, the service was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. All Covid safety measures are being practiced.Wish I had found T&L sooner in my visit to Louisville.
Great atmosphere and great food.
Nice little corner restaurant! Reminds me of a little town diner. Food and staff were great.
I really enjoyed this place, was suggested by a friend and did not disappoint next time we are in Louisville we will stop again
Twig and Leaf is a Louisville icon. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner youre going to get well prepared and quickly served food. Its diner comfort food, and you shouldnt expect anything less. Staff is friendly and attentive.
Had the eggs, bacon, tots, biscuits and gravy. It was a solid breakfast but not quit the same as the brunch spots.
Excellent food, service, price and soooooo clean!!
Awesome breakfast... Country fried steak 😀👍
Very nice restaurant. Place has a nice ambience. You really get that old restaurant feel. The owners were very nice and the food was very good! We went during the holiday season and our hot chocolate was served in Christmas mugs -- which I loved! Definitely a fun and yummy experience.
Nice old fashion diner!
Average, prices inexpensive
Love this little place. Takes me back to high school days. Real food served hot with excellent service.
Was great little place
First time there and service was great and some of the best french toast I have had ever. Wife got meatloaf and mashed potatoes and gravy and she said hers was great too. I got french toast, eggs, and bacon. Everything was cooked how I requested. Will definitely be back.
I was very disappointed in my meal. I ordered a hot brown and the cheese sauce tasted like cheez whiz and the turkey was just lunch meat. The waitress was very nice though.
Visited this place for the first time--Sunday breakfast on a whim. The place was packed, but service was spot on and attentive. Coffee cups were refilled when less than half full. The breakfast was fantastic-- we both had the chicken steak breakfast platter. Add to that, our breakfast turned into an unexpected fun experience that far exceeded any expectations. We are both looking forward to our next visit.
Great food, all day breakfast, great prices
I absolutely loved this place! Cute little mom and pop diner. The food was delicious and the owner was especially friendly. Two thumbs up! I’d definitely recommend eating here 🤗
Friendly service. Burger good size and bacon good. Had better burgers though. Wifes hot brown not a true hot brown but still good
Currently closed after 3.
Always a favorite. Check hours before you go. Currently 7a-3p due to COVID.
Neat and very clear diner. Not many of them left. A great nostalgic experience.
Twig & Leaf is a permanent Highlands fixture and a staple for any hungry Louisvillian. Classic Americana ambience, generous portions, and something there for everyone.
Very cute little diner! The staff are all super sweet and the tots were AMAZING haha! The booths were a little small, we had to squeeze into them, but a great place overall.
Google says I visited this place last year. No, but I did visit it once 50 years ago. It must be under new management by now, and if so, I cant comment upon it. Great sign though. An iconic Highlands landmark.
We stopped in this diner after vistining for a doctors appointment and was highly satisfied! The food came out fast and was delicious! The Denver special with the homemade salsa(which is amazing) hit the spot. The pancakes are also a must for anyone that loves pancakes. Would recommend for a quick bite:)
I’m so surprised at all of these good reviews. I like the idea of a no frills diner with breakfast all day. Service was unremarkable, staff were wearing flip flops and the food was the worst part. Even a regular waffle tastes like the batter had sat out for days and was a very odd flavor. This is my first negative review but I think I was just shocked at how many people love this place. My sister had been before and said it was disgusting and to not go but I wanted to give it a chance. I was still disappointed in the quality. I truly hope this place works on their food because I would love to support a local diner.
Very good food very friendly people
Love the staff
No that great bit not that bad
I would recommend Twig and Leaf. The prices are great, staff is great, and food tastes great. Its a unique dining experience and a neat little local business. The only thing I would say is that they mainly have things like burgers, fries, onion rings, salads, etc. so my recommendation would be to change up the menu a little bit. But if you like traditional foods, this is the place to go!I would definitely come back here again and would recommend.
Good and cheap food
This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. Our waitress, Teresa was a sweetheart and was very informative on the specials and desserts. The French toast was awesome! Great service and food.
Great service and get that real old time diner feeling. Also get great portion size for price. Way better than any Wendys or fast food place for the same price.
I have passed by Twig and Leaf many times but never eaten there. The food was good and the waiter and hostess were very nice. Four stars instead of five because it needs some updates. However, it is kind of a nostalgic little place that has been in the Highlands for many years.
Great place for breakfast. Serves breakfast all day. There are other options on the menu for lunch and dinner. Nice to watch the cooks prepare your food. The staff is friendly.
My first time at this famous institution. GREAT SERVICE, I sat at the counter. I was also struck by the affordability of this place, I ordered a HUGE breakfast and everything was great and the food came out fast. Highly recommended!
The servers here are always very kind. I love the simple enough home food. Try the Hot Brown!
Friendly sweet cook. Made just what we asked for in a good timely manner. Hot and fresh. Place is clean. She trys to talk to everyone which gives it the mom and pop old time feel.
Stopped in to complete a class assignment and had a great experience. Rae was really nice and accommodating. It’s a perfect small cozy diner eith a great burger and friendly owners.
Twig and Leaf is a fantastic little corner shop. They serve breakfast all day with large portions and fair prices. Rae Norwood, the owner is extremely sweet and completes the whole place.
Old school dinner with tasty dinner style food and nothing to complain about service. I had the special, which was meatloaf and mashed potatoes with gravy with a salad and it was just right. Others in the party had the BLT and the club, which were both delish. Ive been here before and will go back again.
My 1st experience waling into this restaurant was great! Everyone seemed happy! Food was great too!
Very nice staff, our server was great! And we noticed he was studying for school on his break, after he had given us amazing service. The food more than pack a something to be desired. The staff in the other hand is sincerely more than eager to please.
One of my favorite restaurants on Bardstown road. Good ole no frills diner food with an excellent people-watching window.
Great value!
The twig and leaf has the best value in a fast, freshBreakfast. Very close to everyone the highlands. We were greeted with a hello and welcome when we walked in. Service was great and the food cooked to perfection!! I suggest the eggs and french toast!!
Excellent breakfast, french toast the best. Old classic diner. Service excellent. Prices reasonable.
Great people and amazing food at a great price
First time in Kentucky and couldnt find a better place to eat the delicious hot brown! Very good service, environment and food, definitely a must if you are a first time visitor to Kentucky
Twig and Leaf has gone through many different phases of existence over the decades. Its gone from charming to scummy as back. Currently Id say its doing well. The menu has diversified to include shawarma and similar offerings, but I cant speak to the quality of that fare as Ive not tried it yet.I came for breakfast and I was not let down. Twig and Leaf maintains their a la carte menu as they always have, but if you just want something in a prepackaged format then for $10 you can choose from a variety of meals. I chose the country fried steak breakfast that came with 2 eggs, toast and tater tots. Im not sorry. I left full and happy and Id do it again. If youve never been to Twig and Leaf and you enjoy diner food, then you owe it to yourself to pay them a visit. If you are familiar with Twig and Leaf, and have been turned away by their one-time poor atmosphere or service, perhaps its time to stop back in again and give them another chance.
Love this place since I was a child..
Cute little place with solid, good, and classic diner food. The staff was SO friendly and added to our experience, as it was clear they cared. I also love that they have a neighborhood discount!
Traditional diner type restaurant. Great for breakfast, Belgium waffle is excellent. During Lent several fish (cod) specials. Also gyros and regular diner food. Tater Tots! Basic booths and counter service. Only drawback is grill is in the center of the counter area so leftover cooking smell lingers. But service attentive and friendly.
I always love eating at this little place. Great breakfast foods, quick grill, late hours and friendly staff.
This is the tasty, straight-forward diner food that Ive been looking for. Yummy, cheap, and simple diner food in a classic space with sweet wait staff. Love it and I will be back soon
This place is excellent! The hot Brown is very good, and when we came they were running a special of briyani rice with chicken breast in red sauce, and it was divine! Will definitely be coming back for the chicken and rice, absolutely delicious.
Tasty food.
This is a very simple Diner. Nice food. Good prices.
Good food, good service. Will definitely come back
Just had the biscuit and gravy platter. Excellent! The gravy was the way gravy is supposed to be. Not too thick and not too thin. The sausage is top quality. Not the cheap stuff you usually get. Besides any place that serves tater tots is tops with me.
