The staff was extremely helpful finding blue books and while they loved seeing my service dog they were respectful of her vest and patches. Can we give five hearts 💕 instead of stars?

Varsity always has what I need and when they dont they get it in for me as soon as they can! Very thankful for a cheaper and easier route than other bookstores. Always great to get to see and pet the owners dogs when theyre at the store too! They also have great merchandise and other apparel- bought the best mugs and Christmas ornaments and comfiest sweaters!

Worst bookstore in Lubbock. It is the worst process every semester trying to buy from them. The least helpful service I’ve ever received and everyone who works there is extremely rude.

I find this place a bit overrated due to the high prices. True that it is near texas tech, and in university avenue, still if you can drive, I would suggest to go to Michaels, or anything else for your stationary.

I’ve been to multiple bookstore locations and Varsity was the smoothest process. They had everything I needed. The staff is very helpful.Great quality tech gear too! Cute styles and good prices. They always have some sort of discount or deal going on, I love that!

Cashier stopped me as I was leaving and asked for my receipt, just to circle the no refunds policy printed on there multiple times with a highlighter before handing it back to me. I didnt even ask about refunds. Other than that it was pretty chill.

This place way overcharges patrons for their books. Amazon is way cheaper and even if you don’t have prime you can receive and return the book at no cost to you at the Amazon Hub locker right next to Varsity. If there’s a book not available on Amazon I recommend visiting the campus barns and noble it’s in a more convenient location and will price match Varsity!

I had a book from them that I thought I purchased and then without any warning I was charged $75 for not returning it because they claimed it was a rental, however everyone i know who has rented for them received an email with instructions on how to return it due to the pandemic, which I never received. Their rental books also contain a large green sticker that contains the instructions on how to take care of the book as well as the return date which was also not included on my book. They refused to give me a refund even when I asked if I could still return it. They told me it was my responsibility to know when I need to return it even tho they had not given me the necessary information on when and how to return it. Overall they did not do their job and did not provide proper customer service.

Varsity Bookstore has the best college textbook prices in town. The employees work with you to find the exact books you are looking for. They also have a lot of really awesome Texas Tech merchandise! Highly recommend, 10/10

This place is amazing! They have cheaper prices than Barnes and noble and also sell cap and gown and art supplies and clothes and accessories. You can get everything here. Even lab gowns and goggles! Beats going to 20 different stores for one item!

The worst customer service we have received in a long time. My wife went in to sell a couple of books and right away felt tension and not welcome. They dont have to worry about us ever stepping into any of their stores again and I dont think they would care.

My daughter bought her school required supplies.

Their website stresses me out. Why even have a website for a bookstore if you don’t show any books on there. Thanks for wasting 5 minutes of my life and now another 1 writing this review.If you do have books online, I would suggest not masking them by a bunch of nonsense fan gear.

This place is one of the worst run establishments I have ever seen. The owner is rude and misogynistic. He completely disregarded me when I was the one with the questions and would only speak to my boyfriend claiming “he probably knows more than me”. This is not the first time he has spoken to me like this and I have many friends who say the same. I have given this place multiple chances because of the textbooks but I will find another way every time rather than give them my business again.

Customer service is almost always very poor. Sometimes its a better deal, but only by a few dollars. The savings doesnt out way the horrible experience. It feels like they assume simply because theyre dealing with students, customer service isnt important.

Love the prices, very clean and organized, but staff is always kinda clueless no matter what time of year it is. Theres a middle-aged gentleman that is condescending, but everyone else is quite polite.

I bought my books a few days ago, and the staff was so helpful. They made sure I got everything I needed for all of my classes at the cheapest price possible. Buying books this semester was easier than it has ever been, and its good to know that I can count on Varsity to get me what I need in time for school.

Being greeted while walking in the store is the number one sign of good customer service, and this bookstore nails that. I was helped the second I walked in and got everything I needed.

Spacious store with array of Texas Tech gear like clothes, backpacks, car decals. They also have an art store in the back. The prices are a little high, even items on Clearance are about $20-40.

Had a completely wonderful experience at the Varsity Book Store. I had to come in about 5 minutes before closing and the manager and a few employees were more than willing to help me and where fantastic. My access code had stuck to the inside cover of the book and I was unable to use it. This problem was probably more the publishers fault than the Varsitys. I showed the manager the book and he replaces my access code, free of charge. Great, place, great staff, great customer service, no other place I would go to buy books.

Very easy and helpful place! System has every class and exactly what you need, the computer displays every item your course requires, like a clicker and the edition of each text book. Adequate hours as well.

If I could give my experience no stars I would. When trying to return books I was offered $30 for all of the books. At that same store I paid $600. For a store that doesnt help it clients nor work with them Im surprised they are still around. They have lost my business and anyone I can tell about this experience. All I can say is find anywhere else to buy your books!! I mean anywhere.

I walked into the store after class to look for my textbook. All the employees were super helpful and got me what I needed for my classes. I highly recommend going to Varsity to get your textbooks for class.

I had a HORRIBLE experience at this bookstore, not only are books over priced but there is horrible customer service! I was being checked out by (I am assuming) the owner and he was giving me a nasty attitude and was in a bad mood. I will not buy a book from here ever again I felt like I was being downgraded and it was an awful experience. I asked when I returned my book that same day I bought it “and just making sure the total cost goes back on my card correct?” He said “well where else would it go?” DISGUSTING.... don’t get your books here.

Almost all of the textbooks can be found on Amazon for a lot cheaper, sometimes even half the price. Additionally, they dont always have what youre looking for so you might be out of luck! I only go here if I cant get my textbook from Amazon quickly.Furthermore, they claim to pricematch competitors. Out of all the times I have asked for a pricematch, they have rejected all but one. TTU Barnes & Noble is a much better option.Response to Owner: Mainly the upper level classes, especially POLS & HIST are hard to find/not priced matched.

DONT return books here. They wont help you over the phone and tell you to go to the store to answer questions.I have a better idea, Ill just go somewhere else. Too many businesses that are of the ma & pa feel just dont get the customer service aspect. This store too will end up closing its doors eventually with people like this running the show.

Best place in town for good art supplies and paper

I went to return my books to Varsity after they sent me a reminder to return them by 5/16/18. WHAT THE REMINDER FAILED TO MENTION IS THAT THE STORES SUMMER HOURS ALSO BEGAN 5/16/18. I drove all the way to the store to be greeted by a sign telling me that theyre summer hours started that day and that they closed two hours early. Great, thanks for not adjusting those on Maps and wasting my time. Anyways, I went to return my books the very next day and they had the GALL to charge a late fee AFTER THEY F***ING CLOSED EARLY. Absolutely never using the Varsity book store again, Ill gladly be taking my business elsewhere.

Nothing but great things to say about Varsity. 4 years of great undergrad service for textbooks! Ive had absolutely the WORST customer service experiences with Barnes and Noble; never with Varsity. Vague answers, unknown delivery dates, lack of communication, and disrespectful workers at Barnes, but nothing but awesome help, quick answers, great management, and just all around fantastic service from Varsity! Will be a customer here for all of my law school years without a doubt.

Good prices, but very busy

Great for higher-end art supplies! Folks are a bit hard to find down there if you have a question on occasion but thats not a frequent issue. Textbook experiences are different, staff is a bit rude and neglectful. But the art section is best in down, even stretch your own canvas. Worth it as a non-student!

I truly dont know how this place is still around its the absolute worst store to go to for your textbooks. They will always be more expensive and the customer service is non-existent. Dont go here, youll regret it. They dont know how to answer their phone either they wont tell you prices just want you to come and stand in line for an hour.

I have never felt more taken advantage of in my life! After being only three days late with my two textbooks I was informed that not only would I have to pay the late fee (which is fine, I was late in returning them) I would have to pay a replacement fee. The manager looked me in the eye and told me that I would have to replace the book that were right in front of him. When I tried to protest all he would say was that it was in the contract that was signed when the books were rented. I contract I did not sign, my mother did, and I personally would not have signed if I had know about that stipulation. I was treated rudely and was given no sympathy, considering I had to work all day (8-5) that saturday the books were due and missed their store hours (9-5). Im sorry I need to earn a living Varsity! What a ridiculous and heartless policy! They make the black market for organs look like a pillar for morality. Never returning to this Bookstore again!

This Lubbock institution is famous for their vast collection of overpriced books and costumer service that could only be endorsed by the Democratic Peoples Republic of North Korea. Walking into this oh-so inviting, dirt-tinged quadrangle is like consuming Arbys products, well aware your bodys inevitably tormenting rejection of said products. There is not enough satisfaction with the knowledge you could possibly gain from the books purchased from this store to compensate for the lifetime of regret in doing business with this bookstore.

I was late by a 17 days for a book I rented... Knew I was going to have to pay for it but didnt know Id get attacked about it at infront of everyone for it. I acted maturely about it and got attitude in return. Completely turned me from ever showing my face there again.

EDIT 1 month later 3/20/17: I popped in this store because no other store had what I needed and just to see how they would treat me out of curiosity. I saw the tall blonde guy again and I have to say his customer service has improved 10 fold. They did not have what I went in there for but I could tell he was really trying and went above and beyond.Your business depends on Texas Tech students. Treating them with disrespect is a great way to go out of business. When I go to this place normally, I dont need help and I politely let them know when they ask. I get what I need and leave. Well today for the first time I had a simple question about whether they had an English book used or rental. First time in 3 years I have ever asked them anything. The response I got was enough to take my business elsewhere permanently. The book brand new was $125-$140 I was prepared to pay this. When I asked the tall blonde guy who was working the register upstairs whether they had it used, he didnt even look at the book and snapped No we dont. Do you want to buy it or not?. I set the book down and went to Double T bookstore across the street where the lady was so nice, and not to mention resourceful, that I bought all my books there. They even price match at Double T! Re-train your staff on customer service.

Worst customer service. My books were placed on backorder (I wasnt notified at all by the employee), and when I asked about them, he blew me off. Never getting books from here again, second bad experience.

Horrible book store, the employees are rude and unwilling to help you. Also read the fine print when you rent books or you are screwed. They fail to tell you everything that you are signing for so make sure you read it all. Go to red and black, they are over all better in every way.

Varsity Bookstore is a great one-stop-shop! The merchandise department has a wonderful variety of Tech gear to select from at competitive pricing, the art department has an amazing, high quality selection of art supplies for virtually any creative project, and the bookstore is convenient and offers great values for us students!!

Went into Varsity today to get my books and the customer service was great. The staff was very helpful in finding the books that I needed and made everything quick and easy.

I give it 4 stars because they definitely have everything you need and even stuff you dont. But they did not appear very efficient so cant go 5 stars. Alot of people seemed to be working there but it took forever to check out. Very disorganized in the check out process. Youll get what you want, but be prepared to spend time in the check out process.

DO NOT buy your books here. I am 8 months pregnant and was 2 days late turning in my rentals because I was in and out of the hospital. They are so greedy and have the worst customer service that they refused to take my rentals back and only offered to buy them back for significantly less than what they charged me for. I will NEVER buy books here again and I will make sure everyone I know does not come here either.

HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! They charged me 16 dollars for turning in my book ONE day late. This was a day after my final and I worked all day. Im a senior trying to start my life and they charge me 16 dollars for a book they are getting back one day late. That is not understanding at all. I recommend amazon. I shoulve never went to varsity knowing amazons customer service is amazing. Amazon is a lot more understanding.

I bought an online access code, went to class and realized the code was 20$ cheeper online. They wouldnt take a refund not 3 hours after the purchase for a pristine unused access code, so now Im out 120 dollars.

Prices for textbooks are outrageous but they usually have all the books you need for your classes.

After spending roughly $500 for law school books, I switched classes and needed to return a couple of books worth close to $200. I was told by an employee on a Wednesday that I had until Tuesday of the following week to return the books for a full refund. I showed up that Friday and was told that I missed the deadline to return the books by less than 24 hours, but they would graciously let me sell them back for next to nothing - maybe I could get $18 for one. The same manager who sold me the books in the first place pointed to the fine print on the receipt as if to say, Wow, you idiot, the return date is right there. If your own employees cant figure it out, dont treat your customers like morons. Ive bought books and supplements there every semester, so its a shame that they wont treat repeat customers any better. I wont be going back; that was a very expensive mistake.

This place is such a ripoff its ridiculous. Do yourself a favor, and buy on Amazon. If you have to get a Texas Tech custom book, good luck to you. They will overcharge you so much you will walk out with a limp.

Customer service is terrible. The employees generally dont know about the books or access codes they are selling. If you ask questions they either say they dont know or they have to question another employee. I went in there to rent a textbook and buy an access code for a course. They offered the access code only since it already has the etext with it and I got home and tried to access the etext and there wasnt an etext. I called them to only be told that it was out of their hands and they couldnt help me.

Terrible bookstore. Staff treat students like tools, barely pay any attention to you. Older man there is demeaning to students especially. Shop on Amazon, prices are half as high and they give you way more when you return your books via giftcards (which you then use for next years books). Im all for mom & pop when they respect their clientele, but I pray for the death of Varsity at the mighty corporate fists of Amazon.

I ordered my books about a month before the semester started and contacted Varsity to make sure that the books were correct for my subject, which they confirmed they were exactly correct and were not alternate books. As well as when i got to the book store to pick them up the confirmed they were correct. A month into the semester i discovered when i needed the book that it was not the correct books, and when i returned to tell them the issue they refused to refund me nor give me the correct books, and that i would have to sell them back at the end of the semester. The semester ended and i went to return the books and the refused to buy them back claiming that the books are old additions and they are no longer being used. So they sold me old books that i could not use the whole entire semester Which I spent over $500 of my hard earned money on. IF YOU ARE READING THIS MESSAGE, I AM WARNING YOU TO NOT GO TO THIS BOOK STORE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY SELL YOU THERE GARBAGE THAT THEY CAN NOT GET RID OF AND LEAVE YOU WITH THE BURDEN OF WASTED MONEY AND NO BOOKS. GO TO CHEGG OR SPEND A LITTLE EXTRA GO TO BARNES AND NOBLE BUT DONT PURCHASE FROM THIS STORE.
