Just finished up our second camping trip and debating if I should tell you how amazing this place is.About three years ago I took my daughters camping here and we had the best time. There was a heat spell but you can’t complain about the weather when you’re camping. I’m not gonna tell you what our site number wise because there are very good sites at this campground.Ask for cleanliness, my experience has been at this campground is always kept very clean. Even this morning I saw many people cleaning the restrooms. As for noise level. I only heard one campsite not observing the quiet hours at this camp. What is really great about this place is your proximity to the beach. From our campsite it took us about five minutes to get down to the beach. It’s great because we can go down to the beach and enjoy it in the morning. Then we can come back to our camp and have lunch. Then we can go back to the beach and enjoy it in the afternoon. Then we can come back to our campsite and enjoy it there. We found that most of the people who camp here are very kind and respectful. I also want to let you know that there’s a general store at this location so in case you forgot something you can grab it.My son also wants me to tell you that someone caught an octopus in the tide pools. He loved it
This is one of, if not, our favorite campground in So Cal. It’s just beautiful. You’re in the canyons so you get that “in nature” feel, yet still have an incredibly close easy beach access (less then 5 minute walk). Add in great hiking trails with amazing views, huge beautiful trees that give great shade, good size spots, an easy laid back vibe w/the campers, cool aquatic caves at beach, a camp store w/everything you might forget, and it’s a must on the return list. Love it.
Such a great place to camp!
My family has been camping here for family reunions every year for years! We love it! The campgrounds and beaches are beautiful. My only complaint is the showers. This year I had to use countless shower tokens just trying to find a shower that worked. Also it takes about a whole token just for the water to get hot. Hopefully this gets fixed.
The Camp Store has every camping necessity you could possibly need. From beach toys, to medicine, to alcohol (beer/wine) this store has it all! Nestled in the heart of the Leo Carrillo camp ground it’s a fun trip to take with the kids to grab ice cream or a souvenir (t-shirt, sweatshirt, mug, etc.) The staff are nice and helpful. Currently during COVID they are practicing proper social distancing techniques. There is room outside for picnic tables to enjoy any treats that are purchased.
Love this place because the campsite is on one side and you go under a bridge to get to the beach. Its easy to walk. No problem with having to find parking to get to the beach. Your campsite is your parking.
This is a beautiful location & lovely beach but someone came & stole all our camping equipment while we were out surfing. I hope the campground can improve security in the future.
35 years family tradition love this place
You can find almost everything you forgot on your camping trip here. Dont expect it to be Walmart prices because you are paying for convince. The 2 guys that work there are really friendly and helpful.
One of our favorite places to get away for a few days. Enjoyed by many and loved by all. Was introduced to Leo Carrillo camping by one of my bests friends since 2005 and visited atleast twice a year since then. This place is precious and we have made many fond memories that will last us a lifetime.
Great campground, beautiful spot with trees for shade. The beach is so lovely. Amenities are pretty clean. There is only service near the front of the campground so get a spot up there if you need to use your phone. Hike and bike in spots are super secluded from the bustle of the main campground. Please see attached photo for restrictions now in place for this spot though. And a heads up that hike and bike in are $10 per person. Bring your own firewood as it’s expensive at the store!
Good coffee, great staff. Wifi for the kiddos!
This is a nice campground. Unfortunately, it is closed right now, due to fire damage. Theyre already heavily working on it and the shop owner told me it should open by June 2019. It would have been nice if there was any info on Google that you cant camp here. For me, it was already the second closed-down hike&bike campsite when looking for a place on my bike.
Beautiful camping ground with very friendly park rangers and store employees. we were in a site far in the back and was quiet all day, the sites closer to the entrance had more families. so if you are just adults with a dog or 2, wanting to enjoy a nice camping weekend i recommend staying in the back sites. if you have a child, please stay closer to the front. when we walked around daily, many of the kids ran around in packs screaming till the night and started early mornings.
A beautiful campground yet it could be maintained better. We greeted our site with used toilet paper on the ground. The empty site across from us had a crappy rug next to the fire pit. It stayed there the entire week of our stay. The bathrooms do not seem to be maintained either. And you have to pay for hot showers. I would expect better standards for $60. a night for an electric hook up site. Especially when you can stay at Malibu beach rv park for $50 a night and have amazing ocean views with the cleanest site and bathhouse (free hot shower) of all time. That said, this campground allows fires and has awesome hiking and easy beach access.
Excellent campsite! Friendly environment. Beautiful beach. Clean campsites. Overall wonderful place!
Was there for a week - had 12 of us in two campsites - #42 & #43, in the back near showers and restrooms. All week was great - good neighbors, but then it changed. Surrounding us was a very large group of adults and kids (family)....foul language and yelling, biking through our campsite, drug use, drinking until they were SO drunk, they couldnt get into their tents at 2:30 in the morning - then yelling and shouting at 5 am - pure trash. Gang tattoos (I know) and drugs made us fearful of harm to our group - we complained to Ranger because camp host was no where - nothing. Ruined our stay and we will NOT return because of the inability of California State Parks to enforce even the smallest of rules. One kid was yelling at his dad that You are too drunk to unzip your tent...again. Trash, trash, trash. Two stars because of the first five days...zero for rest. Horrible stay.
Very nice campground, Sidney, the very sweet park ranger that checked me in, is a pleasure to know. She has a sparkling personality, and is just good people .I look forward to my next visit, merry Christmas to the entire staff. Sincerely, Richard Graves.
Ive been going here yearly for over a decade. Camp ground is beautiful. Beaches are clean with a very family friendly environment. The rangers however seem to be very rude. Unwilling to answer questions and seemingly uninterested in helping out campers. I still plan to come back here but its a shame such a beautiful place has such a rude staff.
Insane right off the rock. Love to surf here when the swell is on! 🤙
Great beach and camp site. Camp store sells coffee for those in need.
Got most of the supply for camping. Fire wood, hot dog, etc
One of my favorite places
Perfect place to grab forgotten items.
Rad selection of apparel. All the camp necessities that you accidentally forgot!
Best Malibu camping ⛺️
Walking distance from the beach.
Friendly staff, convenient
Has what Ya need in a pinch...
Walking distance to the beach, hiking, and showers.
Although the items are generally expensive, there are a lot of things you need. You have to pay 9 dollars for firewood, and you have to pay extra for cards and debits.. You get 2 dollars when you buy 2 pieces of firewood for 18 dollars.. It costs 20 dollars in total.
