The one star is strictly due to how extremely rude the one employee was. The place was busy so I went to pick up Starbucks after ordering. It took about 8-10 minutes and when I came back this one employee was so rude and mad that I did that. He said it took an hour? My food was scorching hot so clearly not. And what’s it to him? I PAID FOR THE FOOD. He was so mean about it that it makes me never want to come here again.

Honestly. Its hard to find a good bagel and they nailed it. Fresh Slightly chewy texture on the outside, the right amount of doughy on the inside and its also the right size. Theyve honestly nailed it !

Staff friendly and efficient. Bagels are generously sized with plentiful coating on both sides.

The food was okay but the real reason for my low review was the customer service. I had placed a phone order. When I got there one of my orders was messed up and I politely when back into the store to address it. The person who helped me was rude and pretty much blamed me for the incorrect order. Maybe if he had actually listened to my requests over the phone instead of cutting me off and saying “what else”, maybe there wouldn’t have been any issues.

The lox is consistently out of this world. I have no idea if its made in-house or they get it from somewhere else, but its oily and not too salty - quintessential nova.The bagels are great too, my inlaws pick them up all of the time. I grew up with TFAB - they make a unique bagel - but these measure up well and are pretty classic.If you are a lox fiend like me, this is the place to go.

For the price in the area it’s not a bad deal. I spent $12.25 for a turkey club, bottled water and a can of soda. The chips were okay and nothing special, but the sandwich is everything you’d want it to taste. They serve quickly but there’s definitely a lack of parking. Masks and social distancing isn’t enforced here, but eating inside is prohibited

Horrible service, rude staff, food was decent, next time give customers time to look at the menu before screaming at them. Also the staff looked super miserable and made the energy in the establishment unwelcoming please do better!

Came here for a taylor ham egg and cheese and it was so tasty! The bagel was nice and chewy. the service was fast and friendly. What more could you ask for?

I wanted to like this place but it kept disappointing me over and over again. A recent incident was the last straw. I ordered their regular pancakes and instead received mini silver dollar pancakes for the same price as regular pancakes. I complained to their management and staff and they were rude and dismissive. Also, their bagels have gone downhill and taste like dinner rolls. Dont GO HERE!

Bagel was very tasty on its own, had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, eggs were not runny and the bacon was cooked just right.

I use to pick up two dozen bagels here every Thursday for a distributor I managed. Sadly I don’t live in NJ anymore, but I still think these are the best I’ve ever had.

Sub standard bagels. Confusion in always placing an order. They need to switch to order numbers rather than just calling out the contents of order. So simple and you still see businesses like this not use it

This place is really good. I am not sure if they make the bagels there themselves but they are really good. I just wish their bacon egg and cheese had more bacon egg and cheese between the bagels

Great bagel spot for a tasty Egg & Cheese on the weekend. Their bagels are baked fresh and their egg sandwiches are delicious. It can get a little wild in there on the weekends and their system for waiting to get your order could use some organization. The staff works very hard to get your order quick, its just a popular spot so expect a small wait if you go any time in the morning on the weekends. The coffee could use some improvement, but youre really there for the bagels so just pop up the street to one of the coffee shops for your coffee.

The food was ok however the reason I am giving it 1 star is because while i was walking through Maplewood village at night, i walked by the store and saw what looked like a rat/mouse crawling across their restaurant floor! Very unsanitary

The large coffee is a medium and the medium is like a small. They dont have regular size coffee cups for large coffee. However the good news is the cost.for the large is the cost for a medium coffee $1.85 so at least thats fair. I hope.one day they will add a real large coffee and charge the $2.25 that other coffee shops charge. The medium cup sold as a large is too small.

I am 29 years old and this still my favorite place to get breakfast. I remember being in the 6th grade begging my mom to take me there in the morning before school.Thank you for being great.

Some of the best bagels in the NYC metro area. Theyre always fresh. Baked perfectly with a tough crust and a soft inside. Not sure how, but the flavor is Just Right!

I called dismorning to simply order a plain bagel toasted with cream cheese this way its ready when i get there so i can make it to work on time since i hit traffic... and the lady was very nasty on the phone and told me no just come in and order. Bagwell Chateau is always consistently good, and always busy. The staff is well trained, yet overworked, especially on Saturday morning . Its actually best to phone ahead for a take out order on Saturdays.Im a big fan of their toasted sesame bagel with lox spread, served open faced. Plus they have all of the usual bagel/ deli dishes.Nice location in Maplewood, on the corner with Arturos, at Baker Street and Maplewood Ave.

The bagels are fine but not worth the attitude. They screw up your order then blame you for it. The customer service would be laughable if it wasnt so irritating.

I love their famous tuna melt. There are also really nice people that work there which makes the full experience worthwhile.

I visited this place not knowing what to expect.... but the service was great, there were fantastic and friendly people, good food at a decent price, good coffee and most of all a good atmosphere, I will definitely go back to this place when in the area.. I recommended.

I grew up with the Bagel Chateau in the 80s. in the early 90s we moved to CO where a good bagel is hard to find. I started coming back in 2010 and it was EXACTLY as I remembered it. I started bringing my family back every summer and in 2014 I noticed the bagels were noticeably smaller and tasted slightly different (not bad or anything).Now its still my favorite breakfast but very disappointed the bagels shrunk. It is pricey but worth the money. Smaller bagels bring me from 5 to 4.

Always like going in for breakfast and in the summer discuss how the mets can only get better and see if we can predict who will make the post season

Staff is friendly but with such a prime location the store is pretty disappointing. This town needs a quality deli/bagelry... Bagel Chateau has an underwhelming selection if bagels/bread, the salads/spreads selection just looks sad, the sandwiches they make are not that good (bacon egg cheese has one egg and enough cheese for two sandwiches), and the lighting and overall aesthetic is gloomy and uninviting.

As a lifelong attendant and purveyor of only the finest bagels (as is every northern New Jersey native), this is easily Maplewoods premier bagle restaurant.

The lady who has been there for “23 years” is RUDE. All good things come to an end and I think after 23 good years this ladys time working at bagel chateau should come to an end too. After proceeding to mess up my order this lady had the nerve to call me wrong when I clearly stated for toast AND EGGS ON THE SIDE. I was so annoyed when I got back to my business and noticed the mistake that I simply dropped my things and hurried back over to get my ordered rectified. This is when I called them to let them know of the mistake where then miss 23 years experience proceeded to tell me that I made a mistake in how I ordered instead of apologizing for making a mistake she made she really tried to blame me. There is no other way to say and order what I wanted in the English language other than saying toast and 2 scrambled eggs on the side. SIMPLE. She also tried to tell me that she put the eggs in the toast as a sandwich that I had already picked up because she misunderstood or as she would say “you ordered it wrong” which is false because there was not even eggs in the toast so it was a complete botched order that she tried to blame on me; not to mention she really tried to make me turn around like I’m some yo-yo to go get the botched order because she didn’t believe me or think she was wrong. Lady do you really think I have the time to waste going back and forth like this if you didn’t mess up the order? If the person whose order that was for wasn’t so hungry I wouldn’t have even come back because it’s a waste of my time during a busy work day. Safe to say I won’t go back until they get rid of that very rude old lady who apparently thinks her experience makes her too perfect from making a mistake.
