Absolutely wonderful and inviting environment as soon as you walk through their doors. Extremely patient staff that are obviously excited about what they do there. I had brought in a very dirty 128 year old German violin about a month ago to have replacements done and a neck readjusted and it was done very well and within quick timing. It sounds absolutely amazing and I will be coming back soon for a bow.

I love this establishment!! The employees are super helpful and understanding!! I went in to price a violin and left with a beautiful violin that Im renting for a year and the amount I paid goes toward its purchase if I decide to keep it!! They are super flexible and affordable too!! I would recommend this place over I anyone purchasing a string instrument!!!

We have a young student that participates in the Webster Groves strings program and were directed to use this shop/studio to rent interments from.On our occasional visits, we have always received helpful service - whether it be instructions and care of the violins, billing, or anything that popped up. We have been happy customers for 3+ years. Best place in St. Louis to rent and/or buy a string instrument! Steve and his team are professional, accommodating, kind and extremely knowledgeable. We have been renting from them for three years and now on the path to purchasing a violin. They have spent so much time with us and taught us quite a bit. Great shop, with impeccable customer service

We stopped by Top Notch to pick up a replacement string for my daughters violin. The people here are very friendly and helpful. They seem to have about anything you would need for a variety of string instruments. If you are needing your instrument serviced or strings replaced, I recommend dropping by and checking them out.

They are indeed Top Notch. I bought my second cello from them and they have repaired my other cello. I send students to them and I know they will be treated well and honestly. I think very highly of the staff there and trust them.

They are wonderful. They take the time to answer all your questions. And there prices are great. I love the fact that you can rent a Violin from them.

I had no idea what I was doing with 2 kids wanting violins for lessons, and they got everything ready, talked to the kids like real people, and triple checked accoutrements and bows. I was exasperated and confused when I arrived, but it was all done in no time with sizing etc. We had to go back over So they could make sure one particular size was ready for rental. I was set as much at ease as one can be giving expensive instruments to kids!

They are very friendly and helpful here! Each time weve been there, they have been happy to help us and take extra time to talk to my kids, teaching them about the instruments, how to play them, how they repair them, etc. Reasonable prices as well. Highly recommend!

Top Notch is a business catering to strings-instrument players. They have an absolutely amazing staff who take customers needs seriously, are genuinely interested in their clients, and who really know their stuff. My daughter rents a cello from Top Notch, and weve been back a few times: to initialize the loan, to grab more rosin, & to move from a 3/4 to a full sized instrument. If you have any strings-based needs, head to Top Notch - you wont be disappointed. Their name says it all.

Stephen Knowels and the team at Top Notch Violins are amazing. Stephen actually inspired my son to move from violin to cello and weve worked with him over the past few years with our cello rentals. Stephen also referred us to our sons private instructor whos a perfect fit for his style and temperament. We also recently purchased an electric cello from Top Notch and the experience was great all the way around.

Ended here accidentally when trying to visit another instrument repair store nearby but the staff were superb, professional and friendly. They took time to discuss my questions and referred me on to another shop stating they could do what I needed but felt Id be better served with someone they felt were experts with the particular instrument I have. I recommend them highly for anyone looking for excellent professional customer service even for accidental visitors!

It is always a pleasure doing business at Top Notch Violins. The shop is lovely and well-maintained with an ambiance of serious musicianship. There is always a friendly associate in the front to help with any of your questions about the instruments or repairs. The employees have extensive knowledge of their selection of instruments and are happy to assist with a smile. On any given night there are musicians gathering to explore the selection of instruments or students performing in recitals for their teachers. Occasionally after hours the shop customers and employees gather to discuss music and even play together. Steve (the owner) can talk to anyone, and he makes the process of renting and purchasing an enjoyable experiences, especially for the student musician. The luthiers Ted and Sanford are serious about their art and are master craftsmen. All of this comes together without any hint of pretentiousness. I strongly recommend Top Notch Violins. I wouldnt shop anywhere else!

The name is TOP NOTCH and so is the service. My son is the top high school Bassist in Missouri and he attributes his success to his teachers and the people that keep his instrument in the finest condition. Weather its re-hairing a bow, or adjusting a soundboard, these folks treat each visit to their shop as if we are their only customer. The people in the shop are all musicians and understand their clients needs and concerns. There just cant be a better violin shop in Missouri, they would not even know how to compete with the staff at Top Notch!

The owners were super nice and understanding of the very late return of their instruments. While processing the rental, we talked about everything from guitarists, to physical therapy, to speaking Portuguese. Great people.

Be aware of double-charges.I switched from a quarterly plan to a yearly rental plan. They double charged me; I paid a yearly fee three months ago and a quarterly fee was debited again this month. I noticed this later and contacted them via email. No replies! (This is their second time not replying to a legitimate customer inquiry.) I called them this afternoon and there was no apology from them. I find their service unprofessional and irresponsible! Very disappointed.update:Two days later, the manager emailed me apologizing for the late reply. He said he was out of office.I received the refund after all; however, I feel they could be more customer-friendly and have their business aligned. I understand a staff who takes care of the instruments does not necessarily work with the customer accounts but he or she can at least apologize to a customer when things go wrong.Update on 10/14/2018I increased my rating to 5-star from 2- star.I have been renting from them for the last three years. Overall, their instrument maintenance and repair services are good and administration got improved. I think I will continue to rent from them.

Such a great experience. Ive just started violin and had purchased from somewhere else and a sting broke. Steve restrung and tuned it and recommended some setup, very professional and Ill definitely be back.

Amazing experience, top notch personal service. I upgraded from renting to purchasing a cello. Steve, Ranya, Ted and Sanford spent many hours over many days guiding me, trying and playing different cellos and bows and finally fine tuning every detail on my new cello. As a relatively new player (I am learning cello as an adult) they made me feel comfortable all along. It was fun, I learned a lot and I couldnt be happier with result.Thanks again guys!

Every time we come here there is only one person working the front and no one from the back comes out to help. We waited today for an hour for one family to check tow instruments and then man they let someone jump in front of us to help them.
