One of my favorite grocery stores- EVER! Every single time I go in there, the items in after are on sale! The meat selection is fabulous and the butchers who work there are very knowledgeable and helpful! Nicest people in the world!

Review from a previous employee, this company is a great company to work for, pay may not be much, but they do what they can for being locally owned local franchise. They treat their employees well and in turn their employees treat their customers well! Id shop here time and time again, if I could afford, because most items are from local sources, and I love that, my bank account just doesnt always love the prices. High prices means high quality though, and hen house proves that!

I have worked at this location for a while and am proud to say I have and will be lost when it closes. I say thanks to all of my customers for I consider you my friends and hope to see you later at a new store or my next job if not hen house. I am sad to see this hen house go because I am also a customer who only shops at this location an I find it hard to let go but will do what I have to so if you shop here then I will see you at our meat department!

Eat the prepared for at your own risk. Food on the salad bar looks like a relic of vegetables. Parade your plate to the front of the store, no one can operate a cash register anywhere near the food. Wait until your food is room temperature, enjoy.

This is a store that seems to have it all. You can stop here for flowers, Starbucks coffee, ice bags, (I believe) lottery tickets, a good quality selection of lunch/to go meals (like salad, sandwiches, fried chicken, etc) with a seating area provided, a bakery, a pharmacy, and just about everything else that comes with a grocery store. They also have a great reward system.

Hen Houses customer service is top-notch. If the (numerous, readily available) employees are not happy to be there, then they are doing a darn fine job of faking it. I suspect they are not faking it. Hen House has some of the best produce and fresh meats in town and I swear on the Holy Bible that Im not just saying this because I have a crush on one of the butchers (really, the customer service is that good!) Seriously, hes adorable...*ahem* What was I saying? Oh yes, prices. Hen House does not deserve its reputation of being overpriced. Perhaps once it did, but in the past couple of years, the prices at Hy-Vee and Price Chopper have gone WAY up. So if prices are roughly the same all all around, why not choose the store that is clean, well-stocked, and well-staffed?

This was my go-to supermarket since the mid-90s but the quality had dropped steeply over the past year or two. Its hard to find milk that isnt more than a week away from expiration. Even half & half, which should be good for up to 2 months upon purchase is often just a couple weeks from expiration. Ive also bought a couple things out of their freezer section only to find when I got home that they were 6 mos to a year (!!) past expiration. I waited and hoped that things will return to form, but at this point Im doing 90% of my shopping at competitors.

Love the meat department. Nice big store and friendly employees. Some things slightly higher, but I find the quality of meat to be the best around.

I dont do a lot of shopping here because the prices are a bit high, however, you get what you pay for. I typically visit Hen House for fresh produce and meats. Their produce is by far the best in Merriam.

Good quality and price on fresh produce. Checkout lines move quickly. Limited selection of artisan cheeses, dry and canned goods are overpriced compared to some other local stores.

I rather shop at Hen House over Price Chopper and WAY WAY over hyvee. The Hen House Card allows me to save on an average shopping spree, anywhere from $24 to $42. For me an average shopping spree normally would have cost me $120 to $130 but with the card I am able to keep it below $100 and that is without any coupons.There cashiers are all very nice,polite and very helpful with anything you may need to ask of them. You will never see them chatting or just standing behind their registers or have to wait for a cashier to get there unlike OTHER stores. As soon as their lines are empty they come to the end of their lane to either grab the next person heading to check out or will ask if they can help you find something... MY FAVORITE LOCATION IS ON ANTIOCH by Home Depot,...GO TEAM HEN HOUSE

As always EVERY employee I interacted with was knowledgeable helpful and extremely nice. The store is immaculate and the all the sale signs were prominently displayed.

Hen house in merriam is really amazing . wonderfull people. great customer service .. oh and madison helped me find all the things i needed everytime i come in .. she is always nice when i come in. helpfull and wonderfull.. so this kennedy person down below can seriously go somewhere else with harrasment online .. just a bully. never seen this person come in either so who is she to say someome is bad at their job. and making up these things is seriously messed up. grow up little girl. other than that HEN HOUSE IS AMAZING :D prices are always right

Milk purchased there was spoiled on multiple occasions. Their seafood market is better than other Hen Houses for smell management (does smell like fresh fish). Specialty items hit and miss, and layout is annoying (entry doesnt allow going directly to isles, forces either going through entire produce or cutting through registers / Starbucks). Generally notably more pricy than other grocery stores in the area.

Alice was a great cashier and very helpful with my little one who was being cranky while we were in line. Easy location to get in and out of, right now lots of pumpkins, goards, and other seasonal items right out front.

This place has all of the dated 90s decor that seems to be prevalent in the Johnson County grocery stores, but seems to fall short of matching its competitors. I cant say that I have any desire to come here over Hyvee or Pricechopper.

So...I went up there to buy some breakfast items. Bought some bacon...got home...it was expired. Called up to customer service and told her what happened. She said ok ill let them know. She wasnt even going to ask me what kind of bacon. And she didnt even ask me if I would like to exchange it. $8 wasted. Crappy customer service for an already overpriced store!

5:15, Friday evening, low stock (dairy and bread), couldnt find help at MREs counters, two checkers at registers with lines of people waiting. No self check-out. Antiquated debit card reader (not a chip reader).
