Was brought a giraffe feeding experience for my birthday and it was one of the best experiences. The keeper was friendly and after introduced us to some of the female giraffes we were able to start feeding them. He shared some interesting facts about them throughout which was nice. I liked this experience too as it was just myself and my partner so it felt every personal which was lovely. If anyone loves giraffes as much I do I would highly recommend doing it.
Loved it. Lots for everyone to see and do. Most of the eateries were closed, or renovating. Layout good, animals are healthy and we enjoyed at least 5 hours there. Amazing conservation efforts too, really well worth your visit. Helpful young people serving, smiling throughout service( we found a chip shack) not enough seating though. Shared with another family
I personally love this zoo.Its huge ! Its easily a full day out with the family, its that big that its hard to see everything all in one day.Everyone Ive been its been clean and tidy with no mess or litter, plenty of bins to use. There are alot of shops scattered across the zoo for food, drinks, snacks, ice cream and even a decent meal if you fancy it.The kids are a good selection of playgrounds/parks to use and climb on, theres lots of photos points scattered across the zoo where u can climb inside animals such as a kangaroo or tortoise. This zoo has alot of animals which you might not find at other zoo, they are a good conservation zoo, trying to reintroduce animals back to the wild.Theres a train which will take you for a short wide around a part of the zoo and let u get close to the lemurs.Face paining for the kids or even adults haha only £4 each. This zoo offers animal experience packages where u can get hands on with some of the animals, feed them, learn about them and touch them. Its not cheap but a lovely treat of u can afford it.I love this place ! Ive brought a year pass so I can go as much as possible (£69) for an adult. On your way out theres a huge shop so u can buy a present or just a treat to remember the zoo.
Fantastic place. So much to see will have to go back again. Sealion pool is amazing. Great to walk underneath & watch the beauty of them in the water. The wonderful elephants ❤️watching them with the keepers as they checked them over at the end of they day just showed how clever they are & the bond they had with each other. The zoo made use of every bit if space in the place. Just lost our bairns at times as map was too small for me to make out even with my glasses on 🤓 but it didnt matter too much as there was always different beautiful animals to see. Good to know also the money paid to get in & any donations made dont just go to the zoo but to helping the animals in their native homes also. 👍♥️🐘🦒🦧🐒
FANTASTIC family day out! The fun begins the moment you walk through the entrance. Super friendly staff who cant do enough for you and all the animals are extremely well looked after. We were very lucky to experience the Extra-ordinary half day. We started the morning with a hearty breakfast and then were expertly guided through many enclosures including the Penguins, Sea Lion, Lemurs, Giraffes and Hyenas where we were filled with interesting facts and able to feed the animals. This was all very interactive, my two children aged 7 and 9 were very much included, they both got to feed all the animals we visited. We ended the guided tour with a slap up lunch in the penguin restaurant. We all came away buzzing from the experience and cant thank Jon, Lisa and all the staff who looked after us enough for treating us all so well. Thank you 🙏 Its a day we will never forget.Just so nobody is disappointed, Colchester Zoo does not have any Dingos 😀
Best zoo I have ever been too and my children love going so much we brought gold cards, I think all ages enjoy the zoo well at least I do enjoy it as much as my girls do and I am nearly 30. definitely a place to go and spend your day, plenty of places to buy food or you can take your own picnic and there are loads of places to sit and eat. and some amazing parks for the children to play on when the adults would like to sit and have a rest with a cuppa.
The whole park was very clean, hand sanitizers everywhere and toilet facilities. There was a limited number of people in the park which allowed us to safely visit the park and social distance. The online map was a bit hard to navigate and the app kept on crashing whenever I tried to map a route to a specific exhibition. Apart from that I loved all the exhibitions, play area and the train attraction was very nice
Great day out. Got to do giraffe and elephant feeding experiences. Would highly recommend booking way in advance for those though. Loved feeding the lorikeets as well.. plenty of enrichment for all the animals. Loved the train ride to the lemur walk through enclosure. Will definitely be coming back!!
Enjoyed my day out at Colchester Zoo. This was not my first visit and would definitely not be my last. Would advise arriving for 9 bit of a wait too get in as the main zoo doesn’t open till 9:30 but once in you get at least a couple of hours with minimal other guests. The zoo does get busy but surprisingly doesn’t feel over crowded. Getting around is a bit of a walk with some steep hills but there is a route that you can take that is easier (unfortunately this does not showcase all the animals). All together I feel between the animals and activities it is an amazing day out.
What a lovely day out. One of the best zoos we have visited in the UK. It took us about 4 hours to walk through and see all the animals. There are toilets and shops dotted around the zoo which is quite handy. The price of food and drink inside is quite steep though. They have such a big variety of animals, big to small. You can book in advance to feed the elephants and giraffes (something we wish we knew before hand). Make sure to wear comfortably shoes as its a lot of walking!
Very good zoo. Colchester Zoo is a very good zoo with decent space for the animals. It does make it slightly more difficult to see them when they have large enclosures, however it is more important the animals have room than humans clearly seeing them. We brought packed lunches so we did not have to spend money on food so cant comment on that. It is very hilly and there is a lot of walking because of its size. It is not that easy to navigate and could do with more signs or floor markings. You can easily spend the whole day there. Two of the main issues I would say why it did not get a 5 star is, firstly it has toilets around the park, but some of them are just one toilet not a block. So in busy times this could be a nightmare. The second issue was parking, they have grass areas for the cars to park one car in front of another (like a normal car park). They need to mark out the spaces on the grass because a lot of dumb drivers take up two spaces. Other than these issues it is a very good zoo, worth a visit.
A wander around the zoo on a sunny Sunday afternoon is quite a treat for the family still. There was quite a great selection of animals on show enough to make the day worthwhile going. Were gold card members and its quite handy being able to come and go as we want throughout the year. We managed to book a place for the kids at the indoor play centre and its nice to sit and have a tasty coffee whilst they run off the last bit of steam! The staff are very dedicated to both their animal wards and visitors alike. The areas are kept impeccably clean and the toilets in the play area were pristine to say the least. Staff were cleaning rigorous throughout the day and I felt my family were covid safe throughout.
We love this zoo, there is a lot to see and do and the talks are very informative.
Absolutely love this zoo. Had a great day. Very interesting and informative as well as plenty to do for the children. Only downside is the hills, be prepared to hurt for a few days after...
Fun for adults too, lots to do (we spent hours there and we dont even have kids and werent even reading everything or did every activity!). Really enjoyed feeding the elephant too. Its also good to know that they are connected to a charity to do more for the animals who are endangered in particular. I would say that this is even better than London Zoo!
I did enjoy it here, plenty yo see and the enclosures are surprisingly big so that made it better although sometimes harder to find them lol. Only thing I didnt like and think is a bit naughty is giving time slots to stagger entry because we could get In until 12.15 so lessens your viewing time 🤷♂️ 8/10
Great day out & fun for the kids & adults as well...
We had an excellent day out at the zoo. Seeing all of the different animals up close was amazing. The zoo itself is a bit of a maze, so using a map to find your way around is essential. We fed the giraffes, it was amazing. I would highly recommend it as on add-on to your trip.
Lovely experience, hilly in places, well worth the money
Its best to go when its cool weather not warm as the animals are not so active but its to be expected! The zoo is amazing!! Cant fault it
Awesome day out.Food can be prices, so an idea to bring your own packed lunch. But they do have plenty to offer you. From hot food to cold, drinks and ice cream.Lots of things to keep young and old a like happy for hours. All keepers have extended knowledge of the animals they look after. Its very hilly, so good walking shoes would be recommended and be prepared for steep slopes.Everywhere is wheelchair and buggy friendly.
A great Zoo, very full day out, so much to see. Good parking, no additional fees, easy access and plenty of concessions, bins, and benches. Great value.
Such a lovely day out, the best atmosphere and experience. So much better then most other visitor attractions we have ever visited
Great Zoo, lots to see and explore. Best part was the underwater walk to see the majestic Orangutans. Will definitely be coming back!
Very good facilities, great to see all types of animals which look like they are being kept in safe and humane conditions. Park is generally very clean and while not laid out too easily, there are plenty of maps to show where to go for different animals. A really enjoyable day out, and relatively clear roads to access as well
Absolutely huge zoo, the staff is very friendly andthe animals are very well treated.😊The ice cream is very good, and they have toilets available all throughout the site.Would definitely go again!
Loved it! Best zoo we have been to, and we have been to a lot! Paid extra to feed the elephants too. Food was reasonable and very nice, veggie options too which is a plus for us. The zoo was well kept and exhibits were big and looked lots for the animals to do.
Fantastic day out... we visited on the 14th... my kids enjoyed it especially my 2.5 year old was his first visit to a zoo and he loved it... all the animals looked happy and well looked after... paid extra to feed the giraffes
Lovely zoo! Animals are well kept and looking healthy. Very friendly and helpful staff all throughout the park.
Amazing place with a large variety of animals and birds. Very large parking space. Multiple play areas. A day well spent.
We always enjoy our visits to Colchester Zoo. The animals are healthy and well cared for. Enclosures are well thought out and maintained. Plenty of places to grab something to eat and also many seating areas to sit down and rest. We will be back, again!! 😀
Brilliant zoo altogether, bit difficult to navigate but plenty of maps. Saw plenty of animals close. Had a good day. Advise to book online to get discount.
Amazing experience with children and family. Get ready for lots of walking! Table and Picnic areas all around the zoo, very clean and the food is reasonably priced (limited options) however we took a picnic. Animals are very happy and seem very comfortable in their homes, staff are polite and zoo is well looked after. A lovely day out, highly recommended.
Never enough time to see all of it.2 days a must. You must feed the giraffes and elephants too. Well worth it for the experience.
As usual awesome day out, plenty of people visiting. A worthwhile day out
Lovely big Zoo. Lots to see and it definitely would take a day to navigate and experience. Theres plenty of parking and its quite accessible. The £25 per person entry is worth the price for what you get to see. There are various animals from around the world and they have exotic animals too. Most places have hand anti-bac for covid world and this place is very family friendly. There are play areas and food snack bars every 10-15 minutes on the path. With all the above, you might be asking why the 3 stars?1. Food prices are a rip off.2. Food tastes terrible.Basically bring your own food and you will be happy as gold.I am happy to pay good money for food, at a minimum it should have some flavour.I paid nearly a tenner for pasta in tomato sauce with garlic bread. I got hard pasta in tinned tomato and semi froze. Garlic bread. Check out the picture! Shocking rip off.
So easy to spend the whole day here. At the cafe by the play area they offer halloumi salads - brilliant!
Brilliant day out.Took kids for an animal experience with Kelly which was great .Got to feed Tigers, Lemurs, meerkat and giraffes.Lovely day out
Great day out with twins.Since reopening, it is well managed and not over crowded (well not when we went anyway)There isnt animal feeding at the moment, unless you want a private experience at £20 for a group of up to 5.Will be back soon Colchester Zoo
What a great day out.Lots to do for the kids. Play areas and interactive sections for both fun and education.Getting up close with animals and insects really was a highlight. The food and drinks areas are extensive and well spaced throughout the Zoo.Lots of indoor and covered areas to escape the classic British downpour. We will be back.M&L
One of the nicest zoos Ive been too, lots to see and do, quite hilly and a lot of walking. The layout could be better as its a bit confusing and we went back on ourself several times but all part of the fun!
Great adventure for grown ups and children. We didnt get to see some of the animals which was a shame. Overall, it was a lovely experience
Love this place. Its big. Very big. Has plenty to see. Good parking facility. Scarce on food places. Good play areas for kids as well
Great family day out. Recommend still wearing a face mask 😷 inside the buildings
Absolutely wonderful day out seeing the animals, however we went to the Southern Kitchen for some burgers and found a fly cooked on the fries and a hair in the burger. Other than that, a great day out!
A great zoo, probably one of the best Ive visited. Lots of shade, a variety of healthy looking animals in great enclosures and plenty of places to stop and eat (not too overpriced either). Only criticism, is a lack of water fountains! It was a hot day when we visited and we only saw 2 places to refill our water bottles. Would like to see more 🙂
Very lovely place to visit. Wow! my animal loving son loved it so much we spent the whole day there, loads of animals.
I am a member of Chester zoo so had a free visit. Ive been too many zoo across the country and this is the definitely the next best after Chester. Colchester is not as big but is definitely more interactive with its customers and was well set out. Plenty of animals to view and plenty of eating spaces and play areas for the kids. Would definitely recommend a visit to anyone. And we will definitely return next time we are in the area 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Brilliant place for a day out. Its fairly big, so you can expect to spend here at least 3 hours or even more if you take your time when stopping to watch the habitants of the zoo.Its very well maintained, easy to navigate. Some parts can be a bit challenging, hilly and difficult to walk/climb.Some closed spaces are a little bit smelling, but its completely understandable and normal. The animals look happy, looked after and treated very well.Staff helpful, engaging and informative.Paid parking, restaurant: food and drinks, snacks available with plenty of seats, benches both outdoor and indoor.Toilets, including accessible ones are also available throughout the territory of the zoo.Highly recommended!
Great zoo, plenty of interactions and got to see all the animals. Defiently worth a visit.
Went to the horror trail last night. Was great fun I really enjoyed it, but was kept waiting at times for long periods, waiting to enter the next phases of the trail. Was quite worn out by the end but ended up being a great night. We contributed to Colchester zoo as we bought food drinks photos, it all helps towards the zoo so was a great night. The tickets did say that they would provide snacks and drinks but this was not the case we paid about £30 for snacks and drinks in the end
Amazing place. Saw some many animals close up. Much better than any zoo Ive been to for years.
Great place to go with family.Loads of things for kids to do.Animals looked happy and had room to run about.
Had an amazing day here. Everything was operating within covid secure guidelines, which made for a really pleasant visit. The jungle train still ran and we loved getting up close with the lemurs (one even jumped onto my shoulder!), plus my daughter loved visiting the sofy play for a break. Make sure to book tickets before you go and book a slot for the soft play for any children.
Brilliant day out, animals all look happy and well looked after. The zoo is kept clean and tidy.Lots of walking and alot of slopes but plenty of benches, food stops and toilets around the zoo. They also had a sand station to make a sand filled necklace or ornament this Id charged at £3.00 each as well as a face painting station, play parks and a large shop as well as lots of stops for ice cream and slush calipo drinks! Staff all friendly and helpful.
Probably one of the better Zoos in south England. Great place to visit for individuals and families alike. Had almost everything you could possibly ask for from a Zoo, a large variety of animals, including almost all of the big animals, nice play areas for the kids, plenty of places to eat, very friendly and helpful staff, nice gift shop, very spacious and plenty to do there. My only gripe is that it closes too early, 5.30pm on weekdays, but I guess the animals need a break. Highly recommended.
I am so impressed. You could tell that a lot of thought had been put into the enclosures, the animals seem happy and relaxed. Whole place was spotlessly clean and there were loads of staff around to help. Only downside was that they no longer do maps to help find your way around, its all interactive on an app which munched my data, we were there for 7 hours though as its huge, we walked nearly 12 miles in the day. Well worth the journey, a great day out.
Great place to revisit - too much to see & too far to walk round in one day. Animals looked content. Plenty of comfort areas and handwas stations. Covid safe.
I wonderful day out, plenty of animals to see
Amazing place, one of the best zoos Ive been too. Great for kids an adults.
This is a great place to go with the kids. Too much to see in one day. Only 4 stars as the Penguini restaurant had us waiting 40 minutes for 3 pizzas and 3 chips. Which were also way overpriced! My daughter had a zoo keeper for the day experience. Absolutely loved it!
The best thing in Colchester! Always came here as a child....now we spend every week here as we have gold cards and oh my it is so worth it! You can totally see what they put the admission and profit into looking after the amazing animals they have! The expansion and renovation taking place allows you to stay fully engaged into an ever changing zoo and doesnt feel the same each time you visit! Highly recommended for anyone wanting a full fun day out of any age!
Fantastic zoo, lots of good viewing positions and timed feeding slots.
Definitely one of the bigger zoos in England, went during restrictions so some of the inside attractions were closed but to be honest it was still a good time. Big place, lots to see, friendly/helpful staff, beautiful animals, plenty of play areas for kids. We definitely had a good time and will be going back.
We havent been to the zoo for 5 years and were amazed at the changes that have been made in that time. Definitely the best Zoo Ive ever been to. We have just adopted my son a Penguin 🐧 for his birthday and he absolutely loves this present 🎁 So much so that my other son has asked us to adopt a Meerkat for his next birthday. Highly recommended a visit especially this year with travel being restricted. Some parts literally make you feel like you are in another country!
A perfect day out with kids. My 6years old son enjoyed seeing all different animals and birds. We had to queue to see some of them but it was still worth it. This was due to COVID restrictions. If you go on a Sunny day, multiple opportunities to have ice creams. Kids will love it.There are many places to eat, you can choose between wraps, sausage, sandwiches, chips etc.
A great day out. It was pretty busy so even outdoors I would wear a mask but it was wonderful to see all the animals and walk around the nature trail! Pricey though.
The animals have great enclosures, large spaces, very well kept.A lot of animals, without the map I would’ve got lost, but we managed to see them all in the 6 hours we was there.Loved the interactive areas where you can touch and feed some animals.Having to book we could only get a spot for 12 so missed out on some time and shows but didn’t make much difference to us considering we saw all the animals just before closing time. The food was nice a few different types of options and the ice creams were big.The toilets weren’t too nice but considering the amount of people that use them in the day it’s understandable.Lots of slopes but some steep points which maybe be difficult for people with wheelchairs.Still very much worth going I would go again!
Havent been to Colchester Zoo for a long time and wow, what a transformation to the size of the Zoo and the animals habitats. Well done to them for improving on what was already an excellent Zoo, also for their conservation and return to the wild programmes.
This was one of the most wonderful zoo I have ever seen till now, it was a great experience and I had a wonderful time there. I highly recommend and I will definitely go again
Take your own food have a picnic avoid food outlets which are over priced and lacking in quality. Also incredible long wait for food to be produced! Otherwise the Zoo is an enjoyable experience for a family.
Great day out with lots to see and do. Animals are well cared for and look happy
This is an imaginatively laid out zoo and very different from the iron bars and concrete floors common in my youth. I recommend it .
Brilliant place. Plenty of encounters with the animals available, lots of shade, loads of food and drinks and tons to do and see. Animals look well looked after and the elephant feeding is FANTASTIC!!
Absolutely fantastic zoo, animals are well looked looked after staff are very friendly,It’s a fabulous day out, only a few miles from where we live,
We visit this zoo every year without fail and it is always a lovely experience. There is such a variety of animals to see and we like how spaced out and well looked after the animals are. I had organised a lemur experience as a gift to my son and Mum and they really enjoyed it. The baby lemurs were very friendly and inquisitive too. The young man was very knowledgeable and passionate about his job and we loved watching the experience from the bridge above too. We saw a baby rhino, got great close ups of the leopard, tiger and lion throughout the course of the day during the visit and managed to catch sight of all the zoo animals despite the great British weather. The zoo shop is worth a visit and I got a lovely Chakra tree ornament which looks lovely in my Summerhouse. The man who drove the train and gave us a commentary was very passionate and knowledgeable about the animals and zoo too and he was a volunteer. The zoo have a really genuine team of people whose passion shines through in everything they do. We will be buying zoo passes as investing in such an amazing zoo and the fantastic conservation work they do is really worth supporting.
Excellent day out, had a memories experience and felt like a VIP all day!! Definitely recommend!
Great family time. Friendly staff and guest focused service.
Lovely zoo to visit haven’t been in years was lovely to spend the day there with family!! The shops are very expensive though.
Great.I havent been for several years but the developments were all positive. Lots of seating, lots of space, lots of places to drink and eat.We did struggle with signage and getting to see everything. We used printed map, sign posts and online tool but were still confused and lost on many occassions.
Absolutely worth the journey the variety of animals was incredible so you will definitely find the animal of your choice from lions and tigers to red pandas and komodo dragons you will not be disappointed.
Best zoo without to much travelling by far !! Such a good day out for all ages even with all the working
A very popular zoo to visit with numerous animals birds and reptiles to see.A good pair of walking legs are needed but there are various food and drink options to visit on your way round the zoo 😀
Great fun for all the family, animal encounters are lovely and there are loads of awesome opportunities.
Great zoo, lots of different animals and food places. Only 4 stars because the anteater was pacing, although Im not an expert so it may not have been distressed. Generally the animals looked content though.
Beautiful Zoo well laid out and lots of indoor pens to visit. I loved feeding the Lorikeets, stroking the goats and seeing the Wallabies up close. I will recommend to all my friends.
Perfect place for family trip, plenty of places where you can stop for some food and amazing playgrounds 💯 recommended
Great fun day out lots to see most animals out and talks all day
