*Please take the time to read this. Monster Marine saved us*My husband and I have older Verado engines. One day, one of our motors started acting up and did not let us turn it back on. It was telling us that it had a gas issue and it was overheating. Between my husband trying to replace the obvious ( thermostat, poppet valve, FSM) and 3 other mechanics that came down to the keys to see the boat, we had spent an embarrassing amount of money replacing parts and an equally embarrassing amount of time lowering the boat in the water and testing to see if what we had replaced had solved the issue. We even left the boat at another reputable mechanic shop in Miami, waited two weeks, and were basically told they couldnt figure it out because the motor was not giving them any issues or alarms while at the shop, although they suggested we replace the lower unit ( which we did). We then even re-wired the boat with an electrician thinking it was an electrical issue since we had replaced so many parts and were still getting the same sporadic issues. We even considered replacing the engine because we were so disheartened with it. We would take the boat out, it would work for 3 hours, and then on the way back in to the marina the alarms would go off. The beeping would stop, and then start again. The beeping and alerts were not consistent, which it made so much harder to diagnose. We were heartbroken. We loved our boat, the memories it gave my family, and couldnt believe that we were still having issues. Anything you think of that we should have tried replacing, we did.One day while driving home, Waze sent me through the backroads and I drove by Monster Marine. I called my husband and begged him to let me try talking to Monster Marine for one final Hail Mary. He reluctantly agreed, having had spent so much $ and time trying to find a solution already.Because of the pandemic, all mechanic shops in Miami will take your name and number and give you an appointment thats about a week or two out ( Bass Pro was at about 5 weeks) to come in and drop off the boat. There were places we called in the Keys and told us that they were not taking any new jobs that were exploratory, only straight fixes like oil changes, etc.I called Monster Marine and spent about an hour telling them everything we had done and tried. THIS IN ITSELF SPEAKS VOLUMES TO WHO THEY ARE. They listened and told me to bring the boat in the next morning. When I got there, they told me not to worry that they promised they would figure it out. They spent the day with us looking at the motor, trying out different things, reading Mercury memos that had come out, and were able to figure out the issue based on a MATH CALCULATION they were seeing. The solution had nothing to do with the Mercury alerts we were seeing on our gages, but they had seen the issue before. Not only did they tell me what was wrong, they ran a quick test to a new gas tank to confirm that they were correct. They then gave me options, ranging from price, and even explained to me the things we could do ourselves to save us the money and time. They were honest and kind. And we noticed while there that they treated everyone like this. They received phone calls and drive bys all day of other desperate boaters like us who couldnt figure it out. They took every call and walk in with professionalism and never turned anyone away.I cant explain to you the feeling we had when we lowered that boat back in the water for what seemed like the 500th time and were able to run the motors without any issues or alarms going off. To further speak to who they are, they even called us to find out how the sea trial had gone.I know this review was long, but it pales in comparison to the time (months) and $ we spent trying to figure out what was wrong. They are professional, trustworthy, Mercury Marine certified (which is difficult to find at least in Miami) and have years of experience and have seen it all.If you are looking for a shop, this is it.
After working on my motor for several days, a primary oil line was left disconnected. I noticed it after running the boat for an hour. I called the shop and brought the boat back to be looked at. Their lead mechanic never admitted responsibility, and told that the oil line was a return line and not a concern. I had my reservations about his explanation, so I called Mercury directly. It was not a return but the only oil supply for a particular cylinder.Be it a stretch, I can accept that the zip tie and oil line came off of the barb by itself, but their explanation of the lines function, which was very specific, to me felt like a coverup. I will not be using nor recommending this shop to our boat friends.
We were down in the keys for vacation and had a boat issue. We were told we needed a Mercury part and these guys were the closest one that was open. They took so much time helping us diagnose the issue over the phone and trying to find the right part. These were some great guys-thanks for everything.
