Very disappointing! First time I went a few days ago we had a great experience and bought 3 bonsais for our yard since we are building a Japanese garden. The guy was super friendly and gave us great prices since we told him we would be coming back a lot more. (Which we would have) Second time TODAY was horrible. The other brother (I’m assuming they are brothers) was extremely rude and tried charging us even more than the bigger bonsais we had already purchased. I would have maybe been ok with that even though I paid $40 less for a much bigger bonsai but he was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Save yourself time, money AND a headache and order your bonsai online. Prices are waaaaay less and you don’t have to deal with the terrible customer service. Only reason I had even came was for the experience. Which if u have to deal with this guy will be HORRIBLE.

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! This was my first experience purchasing a bonsai over the internet and unfortunately there was a complication with the online order. Murphys Law sometimes strikes and stuff happens. After making the issue known, Alva expediently resolved the problem to my satisfaction and exceeded my expectations. This was all done proactively without me having to make any requests. Alva went so far as to remain in contact with me after business hours to ensure customer satisfaction. As a business owner myself, I truly appreciate the professionalism with how this was handled. They have beautiful trees and I will be purchasing from them again in the future. Thank you! -David

I don’t understand any of these bad reviews. I’ve had nothing but wonderful service and received amazing trees that were very well cared for. It’s unfortunate that some people feel the need to unfairly criticize. If you’re unhappy, go somewhere else. If you want beautiful trees at very competitive prices, this is the place to go. Very satisfied (and repeat) customer. Remember, if you’re expecting to pay nothing for trees that have been trained and nurtured for 20, 50, 100+ years, you’re going to pay a bit. After all, if you’ve done the same, wouldn’t you charge a decent price? Just common sense. These aren’t instant masterpieces. They take time and knowledge. Justin W

This place used to have some nice bonsai. Everything is extremely over priced. The last time I was there I noticed that they are not maintaining their trees properly. They over charge for small trees that are not impressive at all. The staff is not helpful at all. I found a small stump that was kinda interesting (I saw some potential to do some carving with the deadwood). I was told by the guy working that it was a beautiful windswept style bonsai and told me this small 8 tree was $65. For anything decent they charge way more than what every other retailer sells bonsai for. I was disappointed as I drove all the way to south Miami and found nothing worth purchasing. I have been a bonsai enthusiast for 10 years and find better material at garden centers or individual collectors.

I’ve never been in the actual store itself since I live in Southern California, but I’ve spoken with a couple employees briefly, and the manager, Alva, for a decent amount of time. I was looking at an expensive piece (a short, extremely thick-trunked Ficus Nerifolia with a great canopy) and Alva helped me throughout the process, answering questions and adding interesting details about the Ficus I was buying as well as sending me current photos. He and his employees are first class. His trees are absolutely stunning; I can only imagine what it would be like to visit his store in person. There was one tiny issue (that wasn’t the fault of the store) that was taken care of without issue, no hassle whatsoever. When I buy another Bonsai, I can assure you it will be from here. They have the nicest trees I’ve seen online and a huge selection of both Ficus Nerifolia and Bougainvillea (along with MANY other types), my two absolute favorite trees. I highly recommend this Bonsai store, whether you’re planning on spending a little or a lot.

I went there looking for stock material, which they do not have, only some plants in training pot at the far end (not labeled or priced), and many, very expensive larger plants. Some were very impressive, but you could tell there had not been loving care for a long time. I hear the father was a great grower, but now many of the benches are falling down, weeds everywhere, no signage as to what they were, or how much, with the exception of a few towards the front. Some major cleanup and maintenance is needed. I think most were imported a long time ago. Still interesting to see, but not what I expected.

I consider Miami Tropical Bonsai the store with the most beautiful trees and the best online retailer. Also, the person at the phone is the kindest man and he’s very knowledgeable and accomodating. I ordered a large Arboricola last winter and I was very impressed with it. I took it outside the box and the tree was very healthy, the leaves looked good and that made me very satisfied. For these reasons, this year I was convinced to order another large one, this time a ficus. After selecting the one I really liked from their online catalogue and the order was processed, I was soon informed by email that the item was sold-out already, but that I could have a different one of the same kind. I remember that I’ve specifically asked if the tree and its leaves were in good shape and I was told so, therefore I agreed. I used the 2-day shipping option.Well, when I received the Golden Coin bonsai I immediately noticed that -basically- all the leaves were damaged, some of them yellowing, most of them with tiny black spots on them, cuts, cracks, warps and missing tips. I understand that a tree can suffer the stress of being shipped, but this ficus clearly looked like it wasn’t been in a good shape for a while. After spending almost $ 300, receiving an unhealthy bonsai with an uncertain future doesn’t make me a happy customer. Also, I noticed that the pot didn’t drain properly and retained water. I tried to give the plant the time to adjust and recover, I removed the parasites, but its leaves kept turning yellow, developing cracks, dark spots and lines. As I’m writing, about a month has passed since I’ve gotten the bonsai, and only a few branches still have leaves on (and they don’t even seem healthy), while the rest of the tree looks really sad. Again, I absolutely love the store and their products, but the bonsai I’ve received looked like it was doomed way before I’ve received it. This Golden Coin Ficus was supposed to be the best part in my zen garden, but instead of bringing joy to my days it only kept me worried and upset. It was not a successful experience, this time, but I like to believe that they will restore my faith in the store with my next tree.MarcoUPDATE:The picture of the bonsai showed in the owner’s reply is not the product I’ve got, since that particular tree was not available and I was actually sent another one from their catalog.Anyway, I had to eventually treat the tree with insect spray and cut back hard basically every branch of it. The bonsai does not look good now but it is still alive, with some leaves finally growing back. I was kindly told by Mr.Alva that, in case the ficus was going to survive, I was gonna get 50% of my money reimbursed. After trying to contact him numerous times via email to get my refund and never hearing back from him, now I’m sure it’s not gonna happen.I paid full price for a tree that was doomed from the beginning. It was supposed to be the highlight of my indoor zen garden, instead it is just a sad looking silhouette. Too bad.

Hello there everyone. I finally found sometime to share my recent experience at Miami Tropical Bonsai store. I will start by saying that it was a wonderful and gratifying experience. It was December 28,2016 when I got there after a long ride ( Baytown Texas) Even doe the place was closed to the public I was invited and welcomed in. I was attended by Alva and his brother who after my 3 hours there they made sure I left with a big smile on my face delighted of my stay and with five beautiful Bonsai. I even returned late that evening for some Moss and one more Bonsai. I will continue being their customer for years to come. It is not easy to invest 30 years of your life in creating a Bonsai business it has taken these two gentlemen hard sacrifices and great satisfactions. I will encourage you readers to stop by and get to chat with these two experts that will always look into your best interest before their own.Stanley Muffett,Texas

My friend and I stopped by because it was mentioned on one of those pamphlets I picked up at the snapper creek rest stop. It wasn’t what I was expecting, because I thought it would be more of a garden rather than a retailer. None the less, the guy was nice and left us alone to look around. We were greeted by two friendly boxers.

I found this amazing place online and called to see the types of bonsai available. The service was great from the beginning and it motivated me to go check it out. The bonsai trees were beautiful and very well kept. Also, the price range varies so that it is affordable for everyone but of course it depends on the age and type of bonsai. Nonetheless, the staff was very attentive and did a very good job when it came to explaining the types of bonsai trees and the type of service they required. Alva answered all my questions and helped my mom and I find the perfect bonsai.

Some beautiful trees... But one of the most depressing nurseries Ive ever visited. Thousands of excellent bonsai material neglected and dying. This nursery is an apocalypse of innocent plants, either lying on their sides slowly dehydrating, suffocated by weeds or even allowed to sit so long in their pots that they strangle themselves. That would all be forgiven if the staff had even bothered to acknowledge my presence as I wandered around for an hour the help seemed to intentionally ignore my presence. I would have loved to bring a Miami Tropical Bonsai home to California but even if I wanted to support this mass destruction of bonsai I couldnt because there were no prices or tags on any items and no staff in sight with which to discuss this with. Pretty sure I passed the owner, driving up in his second hummer, on my way out who gave a haphazard Hello on his way to manage the slow death of his inventory. It is my sincerest hope that I happened to stop by on an off day. If not hopefully someone from a local club will step in and preserve the time and energy spent on creating this clearly once impressive operation.
