Great spot to pick up new books.

By far the best customer service I’ve ever had the pleasure to encounter! I only wish I lived closer so that I could browse in person.

Way beats shopping online! So many interesting titles to discover here that I never would have found otherwise. Especially wonderful books with local connections. Not to mention the gifts and cards. And, I always run into a friend here! Cant do that on Amazon.

When I am in Middlebury, I always make sure to stop in and I never leave empty-handed. There is always something interesting that I haven’t seen before. Now that we are all stuck at home I like to order from this shop. The service is very good. Reading the reviews, I see that not everyone understands the economics of the book trade. Amazon’s low prices are killing independent bookstores. I’d rather pay full price and help keep these wonderful places around than save a few bucks and see all the bookstores disappear.

Whats not to like? Nicely curated selection for browsing, and its easy to order anything they dont already have. Local delivery during the pandemic a huge plus!

As the state slowly started to reopen, we called to see if they have resumed in-person visits. They said yes, but they just closed when we called. So we tried again on a different day as Amazon is taking 2 weeks+ for most items....this time they told us they have NOT resumed in-store shopping yet and acted very annoyed, assuming we’d just want to “browse”. (Would’ve appreciated if they’d mention it on the phone.) Wanted to pick up some supplies as we used to live in places with much better selections, I guess this bookstore is not the answer.

Looked for a book that wasnt available in The Netherlands (or elsewhere in Europe or the UK). Found it online on the website of this bookshop. Had very friendly contact with the staff by e-mail who kindly helped me to get through the online ordening, took their time to look for the options that were possible and were great in making it possible to ship it overseas. Friendly and good service and many thanks to them.

On the smaller end but has something for everyone.

A good-sized independent book shop. A great place to go to find a new book, thanks to a knowledgeable staff. The selection in the store is excellent too, if you simply prefer to browse. The downside is that you can find better prices through online sellers. Expect to pay list price.

Bought the latest Discworld novel here close to 10 years ago and I remember the kind staff and the over all warm atmosphere of this shop. Fun to see that they are still open and doing well.

What a cool book shop! Well informed, professional staff. Great selection. Cozy. Super convenient location. Do not let the bridge project put you off, bc I can always find parking that is a quick walk to the Shop.

This is a great Vermont book store.

This is a great local, Vermont bookstore. I have been going to it when I have passed through town for the last two decades. I love that you can find Vermont authors - as well as a selection of books in many areas. I can always trust that I will go back to my car with a few books in tow! It is small - but dont let that fool you - the staff is knowledgeable and very helpful in making suggestions!

What a great book store. New books for all ages. And some great book lover souvenirs! The staff was professional and kind. Highly recommend.

This is a fantastic little book shop with a great selection of books, stationary, and book related ephemera. Their local section is fantastic as well. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The place has that Dickens atmosphere, very cozy and always welcoming. Terrific staff!

The Vermont Book Shop is a not to be missed stop in Middlebury for visitors and locals alike. How lucky we are to have this indie bookstore in the heart of our downtown!

I gave this place 4 stars because as amazing as they are and as friendly as they are, I wish they had more variety of older books and were less expensive.

The Vermont Book Shop is a historic landmark in downtown Middlebury, Vermont where they sell books, magazines, newspapers and music for over 100 years. The store used to be bigger back then and during renovation a few years ago, the store became smaller. They still carry books, magazines, newspapers and music but nearly not as many selections as they did in the past. Before the 1990s, they carried vinyl records and cassette tapes. In the 1990s to mid 2000s, they carried CDs and cassette tapes. Since the store is smaller today, their selections are limited, but they still do carry CDs. It would be nice if they would carry some vinyl records again. If you dont see what youre looking for and before you shop online, their friendly and helpful staff can try to get it for you in a few days. They can even ship to you if youre not from the area. I know parking can be a nuisance, but be sure to stop in today for a visit when youre in downtown Middlebury.

One of my top two bookstores in Vermont! Interesting selections (kid books, non-fiction bios/history are especially good), helpful staff, reasonable prices, and a very Vermonty vibe.
