Typically, I prefer to shop locally, but within the past few years. I cant help but notice the decline in the employees effort to help their customers. I have been going here since I was little and always enjoyed the knowledge the workers had. As a 20 year old, I had to come in today because my mother was unable to get the service she needed. I saw the lack of interest the workers have it seems like. Very disappointing to see, all I ask is for the workers/Manger to work on their customer service. I love shopping locally, and dont want to see a store fail from something that could be a simple fix.Best of luck!

Went to get a replacement for can of spray paint that clogged after only 1/2 used. Cashier tried to unclog it but ended up sending the spray all over outside. So the manager on duty said he would order more because they were out. I thanked him but said do I need something from you saying that you will replace it. And he said why would I replace it it’s almost empty. I told him what happened that the cashier ended emptying the can when she tried to fix it that it was 1/2 full when I brought it in . He looked at me with a puzzled look and went “huh”! He made me feel like I was trying to deceive him. I have never been made to feel this way when I have to replace something with Home Depot and Lowe’s . I could very well afford a $5.99 can of spray paint!!!! It’s just the principle of the situation. Here I am trying to support small business and I get treated like this. I will never shop in this store again!

Very rude, uncaring employees. Made an order before 8 this morning for pick up and went this afternoon to grab it. They claimed they never received it when I had proof of two emails. Charged me and no apology. Also wouldn’t do a return for me and I have to call customer service even though everything was linked to Middletown.

This is a nice local hardware store. It doesnt have everything Home Depot does but they provide good customer service. Its not as cheap as WalMart but some of the prices are overall fairly reasonable.

I recently bought an expensive grill from this location. When it was delivered it was clear that we had received the floor model without ever being told. It had store branding all over it that was clearly not how it came out of the box. When we spoke to the manager he told us there was no possible way we got the floor model. The only thing he offered was an extra battery for the ignition. We went to the store just to check and sure enough, the floor model was missing. We asked to just have it picked back up and be refunded and they told us we would have to pay $75 to have it picked back up. I would have been ok if just didnt feel like I was being lied to.

Love shopping here for my homeowner needs. Unlike the big orange box, I can always find a helpful associate to answer any questions I may have.

Classic hardware store - they had it all. Grills and smokers, paints and a huge range of spray paint colors, pet supplies, kitchen tools and canning, this store has a great selection and good prices.

Awful manager and awful experience. I did not have my receipt and the worker attested to the manager that I indeed purchase the items that I never used. They still had the price tags on them etc. I could not even get a store credit. The manager would not give me the time of day, rude and unprofessional. Long story short, I went back into my banking account found the date of purchased and the young man was able to go back and find it. As far as the manager? Well, lets just say, I dont want to stoop to his level

I like having a local hardware store to go to even if it is the next town over and this Ace is my choice. They do massive changes to floor displays based on the season and usually have what Im looking for even if Im not sure what that is.

Had to special order a part for the grill. They got it there in no time but they close at 6. I dont leave work most nights till 6 so that was inconvenient.

Within the last year, I have come to store 3 times to have an ax sharpened 2 times the machine was broken and this time I was told the sharpener person has taken the week off. Today is Saturday and on Thursday when I came in, I was told he would be here at 800 am on Saturday. I have really tried to shop locally and use local services but your service is not usefulI am done shopping here.

Dont waste your time at this location. I went in today to purchase paint for 2 complete houses and the old man and Jim were very rude and unhelpful. I asked them if they could just come close to the color swatches I had and they looked at me like I had 5 heads. After 3 questions about paint types I finally said look guys, you obviously dont want my business and Ill gladly take it elsewhere. There usually really good here but today they missed the mark BIG TIME. Youd think that during these difficult times theyd be happy for my business but not today. Never again will I waste my time there.

They carry a good inventory of paint and associated supplies. Decent limited selection of basic hardware items, with somewhat higher prices.

Unfortunately, every time I come to Ace, anything I need is never available. Worst selection of overpriced garden hoses I’ve seen anywhere. Not one mower deck belt to be seen. Those are just a couple of recent disappointments. I’d have to play the lotto if they actually save me a trip across town to Home Depot.

Ace is the best place to get nuts and bolts, nobody even has a 1/3 of what ace has. There prices are very good also and a polite staff.

Had what I wanted but not enough of them. 6 inch eye bolt.

Paid for 20 pounds of propane but got only 15 pounds. When I confronted the manager, STEVE, he would not tell me how many pounds of propane I purchased, only that I paid 18.00 to have my 20 pound take filled. It was only after much questioning, and the threat of police action, that he admitted that he sold me only 15 pounds when my sales ticket said 20 pounds. The scale they use has a gray paint marked at the 35 pound marked on the bar scale. The tank in question is the standard B-B-Q 20 pound take with a tare weight(empty) of 18 pounds, which is stamped on the tank. Weight the tank when you get home and you will see that you were cheated. It should weight 38 pounds if the tare weight is 18 pounds. If the tare weight is not eighteen pounds, looked for it on the tank, then add 20 pounds to the total for what the tank should weigh. Call the cops to document the incident or file a complaint with the CT Department of Consumer Affairs. This cheating has been going on for a long time, and God only knows how many people have been cheated, and it must be stopped now!!! Otherwise, go to another filling station as these people are thieves!!!!Filed a complaint with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Affairs, but like the rest of the government of Connecticut, it is incompetent and ineffective.

Went to Ace Hardware to buy some black paint the day before but the color wasnt right went back the day after even though it says no return the color was not black so I asked the manager if they can put more black in so they did and it still didnt turn black so they was kind enough to give me another can that was black the way I wanted it thanks to Ace Hardware Store

If I need a fairly standard item, I would much rather go here than Home Depot. The prices are comparable and you dont have to walk a mile from one end of the store to the other. Today, they were having a sale, 20% off all items that would fit in a bag. I needed to pick up a few things and was pleasantly surprised to find out there was a big sale.

After considerable research, I found that the BEST place to go is Ace Hardware in Middletown.When your grill dies and you want a replacement reasonably quickly, how long it takes to get delivery matters. There would be a delay for all of the online venders to deliver and for Lowes, the model we wanted would take two weeks to order and get it to the store. Some local stores had grills in stock. Most include free delivery, but Home Depot charges $69! Fortunately, all of the online vendors, big box and other stores would provide free assembly on the grill we wanted.So now you have a new grill, what do you do with the old one, especially if it is over 5 feet long, 4 feet high, and 2 feet deep? Only one place I contacted, Ace Hardware in Middletown, would take away the old grill.Ace Hardware in Middletown was a pleasure to deal with—the entire process went quickly and smoothly. Joey placed an immediate order for the grill model we wanted (and also a companion rotisserie, and he carefully double checked the item number to make sure it was the right one for this grill). In a few days, the grill was assembled and delivered to us, actually a day BEFORE the promised date.Joey and his associate came at the time they said they would be at our place and did what we needed to have them do, including removing the old grill.
