My wife hired Smart Choice for garage door repair. One technician came over and spent around 30 minutes on the work. Three hinges and three rollers were replaced, and rollers were put back into the track. The technician told my wife that other garage door service companies usually charge for over $500 but Smart Choice is providing affordable service and willing to apply $125 courtesy discount, making the total charge $385 + tax ($406 in total). After the staff left, we found two problems: (1) new rollers are in a different style from old ones, (2) black lubricating oil gets spread everywhere (see attached photo). This job is not done in a professional way.The receipt (see attached) shows that, three hinges are charged with $73.98, $36.99, and $36.99 respectively, versus $5.37 each in Home Depot; three rollers are charged with $130, $50, and $25 respectively, versus $5.27 per two in Home Depot. All the people are surprised when they heard the charge of $406. In their opinion, a fair total amount of charge would be $100 - $200, given the work time and parts replaced. Smart Choice obviously charged customer in an unreasonable way. Hence we DO NOT recommend Smart Choice and suggest you to avoid this service provider if you can.
I had a fantastic experience with Smart choice and my technician was very friendly, timely and efficient! I will definitely use them again. Thank you Smart Choice and thank you for coming out in a snow storm :)
BEWARE The technician just left and attempted to tell me it would cost $400 dollars to replace a frayed wire! $400 dollars. When I said wow! thats seems like an awful lot for a small repair. The tech looked at me and laughed saying Do you fix garage doors, ya I didnt think so. He was so rude. Then he said Well, your wasting my time, so you need to pay me $89 service fee for coming to your home! I said absolutely NOT when you. All I was told it was a free estimate, and we do NOT want your services. He said estimate IS free, this is a service fee. I told him NO way Jose (thats his name fyi.) And sent him on his way. He said I have all phone calls recorded, we told you $89 to come out. I said GREAT play your recording so you can here what I heard and get off my prproperty.STAY AWAW they are the worst, he had out of state plates but claimed he was the owner...youve been warned. Look at there reviews. Stay safe everyone.
This was NOT a Smart Choice!!! 3 DAYS after this expensive product was installed, the opener did not work properly. After attempting to reach them for weeks, with no response, I started receiving collection notices. Once I reached someone in collections, I stated that I wanted the opener removed. Not an Option they said. I advised that it would be replaced and I will ship it back myself. One of my worst Customer Service (or lack of) experiences Ive had. I will add that the installer was pleasant.
These guys are great. The spring on my garage door broke and I had another company replace it (and they replaced one spring with two, which was ok but not great). It wasnt balanced properly (door guide-wheel would come off the track; door would jerk) and after having them come out 3+ times without fixing it, I gave up and called Smart Choice. The Smart Choice technician was prompt, courteous and efficient. He pointed out a couple things that were off, and told me that a dual spring door needed to be meticulously balanced; it would cost $199 and take about half an hour. Fine. Good labor costs money and I just wanted it to work reliably. So when he gets done, he shows me where/how the first company had not even attached the pulley on both sides of the door - it was all hanging on one spring. Impossible to do it that wrong and not know it.He fixed it and it runs beautifully. He obviously knew exactly what he was doing; was a very good tech. He could tell me about the life left in the other door, where to look for potential problems, and got it done right. I have great confidence in him.
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. They installed a garage door opener a month ago, which has since needed repair more than once. Technicians which were scheduled to come either didnt show up for the repair and I was notified at the end of the day or I had to call causing a delay of a week when my door could not open nor close properly. The door broke again last night to which we hired a new company who showed us that what we were told was a new motor was in fact NOT true [he took a picture and showed us it was from 2017] and that the installation was done incorrectly and that our door was not the issue (which is what the SmartGarage technicition told us) but the motor itself.
If I could give less then one star I would. Absolutely horendous service ! I will never recommend nor use them in the future ! They do not stand behind their work at all! Our brand new openers did not even make it 1 year! Due to installation errors. Bad wire job! Was a fight to get them to come look with out a fee! We will take our business else were ! Zero recommendation... Zero!
So this place is absolute garbage. We needed a new lock replaced and we called a “southington garage over door company” a meriden company truck shows up. The employee “Jason” comes takes a deposit and then that follows with 3 cancellation and then ignores us the rest of the time. Then we get a phone call from this company and says there out of Greenwich when there actually out of Milford. Never got my garage door fixed! Very unprofessional company. Your honestly better off trying to fix it your self because only thing these people will give you is a head ache and a big waste of your time. And just for your FYI they disguise there company as other companies not sure if there a vendor just trying to make a quick buck but they are just terrible.
Grossly overcharged for spring replacement. They will not answer my calls. Dont use this firm and make sure to get estimates from other vendors. They dont deserve any stars!
Terrible company. Called them last month when my garage door broke, answered and came out so quickly, came back the next day with the part and put a bar across the back of the door to straighten it out. Lasted a month and the garage door isnt working, they are no where to be found...not answering their phones, not responding to emails. Dont hire!
I hired smart choice to repair my door i had a broken spring they replace my springs it took him 15 minutes to replace the springs they charged me over $400 i looked up to see how much springs cost it was around $40 i will never hire these people again
