This used to be a great resource for my projects. Monthly deals on shorts, great selection of 4/4 and 5/4 exotic shorts. Unfortunately since D&R was bought by Rugby, theyve switched to cater more to contractors/businesses (totally get it, more financially sound plan). Shorts of everything except Red Oak are essentially a thing of the past. Ill still go if I have a larger build, but not a great place to go as a hobbyist anymore. Staff was and still is great (mostly same guys) but a bit of a bummer that I have to find a new lumber yard/wood source.

Most amazing staff ever! Jared, Pete and Al know their stuff! These guys are not only kind and respectful, cheerful and honest but they have great personalities and the kind of professionalism which is hard to find in this industry. Selection of wood, domestic or exotic, is exceptional and fairly priced. They often have great deals on quality shorts. And if they couldnt score higher as an industry leader...they hire veterans! Amazing! Hope to see them flourish even more. I will always buy sheet goods and my lumber from them.

Quality of the products are top notch. Pete, Jered and the rest of the staff are very helpful and genuinely nice people. I will continue and have been a long time customer.

Stopped in for the first time today. Was thoroughly impressed with both the staff and the selection. There was none of the lumber yard snark Im used to dealing with.Completely indoor facility, lumber in true 4/4, 8/4, 12/4 and even 16/4 thicknesses. I think Ill only be buying lumber from here from now on.Really helpful staff. Thanks Gerrard (hope I got the name right).

This place is just amazing, the guys really know their stuff. Dont think that you will find this kind of wood in a big box or lumber company, not even close. Great place

Rugby is hands down the best local wood shop. They have a ton of knowledge about species of wood. Also the people Ive met just from shopping there has been incredibly resourceful

I just got into woodworking and was looking for a place with quality lumber . I definitely going it here. The stags was extremely nice, helpful and understanding . They really made me feel welcome

The guys at Downes and Reader could not possibly be friendlier, more knowledgable, or more helpful! The quality and variety of wood is phenomenal, and the staff encourages customers to sort through inventory for as long as it takes to find just the right pieces. Onsite milling services are carried out quickly and with great attention to detail. After just one visit Im convinced that this is my go-to source for fine lumber. Highly recommended!!

I have been working with commercial lumber yards for over 35 years. In that time I have come across two lumber yard with the knowledge and experience that can be found at Downes & Reeder. Unfortunately the other lumber yard is closed.The variety and selection that can be found at this location is stunning.
