Braise provided such a unique experience. We had dinner yesterday with them and loved it. There is a V + GF menu and an omnivore one that complemented each other very nicely. The drinks were super fun and unexpected, salads were unique, and the main courses were phenomenal. And the dessert… just delicious. We are definitely excited about returning to Braise, as the menu changes practically every day. Robin was great, friendly and professional. Plus they have the culinary school which Robin showed to us at the end of our dinner. We’ll definitely try that as well. Thank you for a great night!
We had our small wedding reception upstairs in September. Becky sent me many emails back answering all my questions and was very accommodating letting us set everything up. The 2 bartenders/servers were so on top of things and very kind! Food as usual was great--everyone especially loved the meatball and arancini apps, chocolate mousse and citrus tarlettes! Thank you to the Braise team, it was a special day for us!
Server was very good. Our reserved table was 20 minutes late and the eventual sub was not what we had requested. Excellent appetizer. My entree was lukewarm and underwhelming in presentation and flavor. My guests entree was decent, but nothing special. Formerly fantastic, Im sorry to say Braise is well past its prime.
Server was really nice, really knowledgeable about wine selection and was able to give us recommendations that we enjoyed. What was really unfortunate was the entree i ordered, their pork loin. It was super tough, hard to chew, and barely warm, i honestly could not force myself to finish it. I was really disappointed because i was excited for some really good food given the reviews, but i cant say i enjoyed the entree at all. I believe that they had some of their culinary students making the food or maybe i just got unlucky.
The other reviewers are correct, the pork buns are incredible. Small menu, but very good food and drinks. The quality of food is worth the price. My wife and I shared some pork buns and each got an entree and a dessert and felt like we ate too much. Next time I think well just share a bunch of small plates and maybe an entree. Our server (Kyle? Im bad with names) was excellent.
All I had was a cocktail, a latte, and some bread and butter. If you can do all of that perfectly, then you know the rest of the food is just as well. Warm, house-made bread! Delicous and rather large lavendar latte! If only we had stopped at this place for dinner just hours earlier. The bar tender was overly accomidating! I am kicking myself for forgetting his name...it was very unusual. Like Silas or something!
The cooking classes we have done have always been informative, entertaining, and extremely well structured. The staff is as friendly and professional as it gets. Diverse menu with wonderful attention to detail. An absolute gem on the south side. Cant wait to come back!
Such quality, mouthwatering food 🤤. The pork buns are stellar in taste and the waiter we had was knowledgeable, professional, and even showed us the rooftop garden! What a lovely little spot and the best of vibes.
This is easily one of my top picks for quality food in Milwaukee. The ingredients are always fresh and everything is cooked perfectly. I honestly couldn’t knock anything about this place. The pork bao buns are a must have every time. Ambiance is great staff is professional and nice. Overall just a good experience.
Had a wonderful experience last night. We sat outdoors in Braises covered and heated dining area. We were 6 ft away+ from the other group who also dined and felt safe and very well taken care of. The food and drinks was such a great change of pace and escape. Our waiter had a lot of great suggestions, which we took him up on, and we were not at all disappointed. The night ended with some surprise scones to take home to have in the morning for brunch.Food: The Soup was out favorite dish but would also recommend the Mushroom with Grits (great textures and flavors - mushrooms were a bit over salted). We both enjoyed our entrees and were very surprised at the portion size being much bigger than expected.Drinks also were fun and well paired.Such a wonderful experience.
Took over 45 minutes for our first small dish to come out. Server barely checked on us. Would’ve made us feel like valued customers if we were offered some bread to hold us over until our food was ready. Our entrees were good and the flavors were spot on. With so many dining options in Milwaukee that make us feel like we are truly valued customers with food just as good or better. We won’t be back
Last week we ordered the lamb grab and go meal - it came with scalloped potatoes and a fennel/date salad - it was simply delicious, easy to reheat and plate for a proper meal. The only disappointment is that we did not discover this option earlier as we likely would have subscribed to at least a couple of these per month! As a side note my wife is not a potato person, yet she devoured the gratin potatoes with the exclamation that these were the best she had ever eaten. We are headed back today for the new Grab n Go - chicken tikka masala which I expect to be as amazing as last weeks offering! Highly recommended for a simple and flavorful meal, and of course to support the amazing diversity of food in Milwaukee!
Stopped for drinks and want to gi back for dinner! BT SILUS was awesome.
You will not regret visiting this cute place! The ambience was romantic and sleek. Staff is super friendly and their bartender made some fun drinks! Also the price for their menu is very much worth it! (just make sure you confirm that your reservations are inside or outside during covid)
Even during a pandemic go on for a cocktail and a fresh loaf of bread. They also have a bunch of other stuff, but craft cocktails and fresh bread. Nough said.
Cooking 101For my birthday my wife bought me a cooking class at Braise Restaurant. We had eaten there once before for a friends birthday party and the food was on par. After that we had talked about going back again sometime. The time had come for the cooking class, it was the grilling class that we were signed up for. There were a few months of waiting because the classes fill up quick. The night of, we arrived about 30 mins before the class started and we were shown a table and offered a drink while we waited for the rest of the people taking the class to arrive. I had a small beer and Shayla had a small glass of wine while we chatted and got to know some of the people taking the class. At 6pm the class started; there were 12 people in the cooking class and we took a short walk back to the training kitchen area where they had stations set up for two people per area. They had water areas for you to serve yourself, although a waiter periodically checked and took orders for other beverages, and aprons for students to wear. We got started pretty quick, at the head of the class was the teacher, who just happened to be the head chef, and owner of the restaurant. He laid out the plan for the night and what we were going to make. We also all received a copy of the recipes we would be making too look over and take home. The chef had a great sense of humor and we quickly got to work making fresh salsa from scratch. After we had fished making that we moved on. Next was Swiss chard wrapped mozzarella with chimichurri that we cooked later in the evening. Then we worked on prepping a sauce for the bison steak we were going to grill on an open outdoor fire pit at the end of the class. Once everything was prepped and ready the instructor led us through the restaurant, upstairs and out on to an open rooftop patio. The setting was awesome. There was fire pit with a grate on top where we would be grilling the Swiss chard and cheese, the bison steak and then we topped everything with our salsa, chimichurri, and plated our sides (an eggplant salad almost). The food was delicious. The setting was perfect, the weather was just right. The patio was actually the restaurants garden as well so we were surrounded by fresh herbs and vegetables growing. The Chef stayed with us throughout and answered questions and chatted. All in all I thought it was a great and fun experience. I would definitely try another class and for sure go back to eat. $$ street parking, free for 2 hours.
Always amazing! Do not miss this.
My boyfriend and I booked one of the domes for Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, there were forces outside of everyone’s control and the heaters in the domes ended up breaking. I was very disappointed that we weren’t going to be able to be in the domes because I had really been looking forward to having my first dome experience. The staff were very accommodating and apologetic. They did everything they could to still make our V-day dinner special. We also received a prompt refund of the dome reservation fee. The food and atmosphere was great as well. Overall, we had a really good experience.
Their menu is very limited; on the night we visited, there were three entrees and about seven appetizers available, along with two desserts and a fairly short drink list. Therefore, be sure to check the web site in advance to make sure you would like something thats currently on the menu. recommend
Thoes pork buns...soooooooo good!
We celebrated a new job tonight at Braise and let me start by saying that we have not been out much at all this year but this was a really special occasion so we researched restaurants that were taking restrictions seriously and decided to return to Braise. The food was phenomenal. Balsamic glazed mushroom gratin, pork buns and red wine braised beef with gnocchi were next level but what really stood out was the service. Sai made us feel safe and special and every recommendation was a winner (shut up, girl, with that chocolate tahini butter cream cake) and Kyle’s fun rye whisky cocktail complete with cute little honey dipper was delicious. Thank you for making our rare dinner out so worth it.
Just wondering how fresh is the food you sell at Milaegers farmers market????? Did you make it the day before or is it leftovers that you freeze then sell it there. It doesnt have a consume by date.
Great outdoor dining option, the roof was very pleasant to sit on!
A friend and I took a bread making class in January. It was so much fun and the instructor was informative and entertaining. The class was small and everyone wore masks due to Covid. Will be back!
My husband and I came to dine at Braise this evening (it was our first time dining downtown MKE since March of 2020). We felt very safe with all the protocols in place. The food was amazing per usual, highly recommend the house made ciabatta, apple salad, potato gratin, pork buns and Korean BBQ Pork Banh Mi! The staff is friendly, prompt and we were seated 6ft apart with separators in between each table. 10/10 recommend!
Always delicious food and wonderful people. Their take and bake dishes along with the weekly recipe kits are now a staple in our weekly rotation of meals.
First time in a long time since I was here and its still just as good. We just wanted to have a quick early dinner. Glad the pork buns are still around. We came in and knew what we wanted right away, start with the pork buns, then go to the braised pork. No drinks, water was just fine. I know sometimes sticking with just water can lead some to believe oh no, cheap customers. But we honestly just werent interested in drinking. The food was absolutely spot on, as it was years ago last time I was in. We didnt have a reservation which knowing how busy this place can be, we didnt wanna take up too much time at the table. We wanted to be in and out in a timely fashion. It was my dates first time, and shes sorta new to the sharing aspect. She loved it. She asked why dont you come here more often? Lol. I told her Id take her back. I wish I could remember our servers name because she was very nice. As we were leaving I noticed ppl coming in so I hope our walk in appearance was timed perfectly. I would like to think we got the kitchen warmed up for the dinner rush ☺️👍
We did one of the recent classes, which always get rave reviews. We had a great time and learned some new recipes and techniques. It was a little concerning that the head chef did not wear a mask during any part of the class, and would wear one when he went to visit other guests dining but never in the small classroom despite the other learners all wearing masks.
Their crispy pork is to die for! Crunchy on the outside, soft and extremely flavorful on the inside. Steamed pork buns were a little tart, but the meatiness rose above the mixture of textures and flavors. The buns themselves were soft and practically melted in my mouth. They have a decent selection of beer and wine. Our server was very kind and considerate. She checked up on us every time she delivered a dish or drink to the table. It was overall a great date experience.
My wedding was in Milwaukee this fall, and we had our rehearsal dinner at Braise the evening beforehand - what a wonderful experience! The food was superb, and the service was excellent. They were very communicative in the planning process leading up to our event, and were easily able to accommodate our seating requests, music requests, timing, etc. We loved the private room that they have upstairs, along the great outdoor roof space. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a space for a great dinner for a bigger group (25-30)! And be sure to order the pork buns and the brownies - SO GOOD!
Absolutely one of the best restaurant experiences my partner and I have ever had. I was able to make a reservation through my google assistant. Food and drinks were so wonderful, service was impeccable and fast (Maria is such a wonderful server), lovely hostess, and (whom I believe was) the manager was so kind and made sure we had a great experience. We will definitely be back!
We recently held a fabulous surprise birthday party for my husband in the beautiful upstairs event space. Working with Becky - the Events Manager - was easy and her follow through with my questions beforehand was great. The variety of delicious appetizers served, the drink choices (including yummy non-alcoholic drinks) and incredible desserts - as well as the excellent service during the event made for a lovely celebration. Consider using Braise for your next event! You will not regret it.
Super tasty. quick, helpful, and friendly service. this place has a nice feel to it.
Incredible meal from start to finish. The service was great. We got the chubby kid seats in front of the brick oven, which made it a lot easier to eye everybody’s food before they ate it. Hugely beneficial when trying to pick what you want to try. Gavin was a delightful server, and Austin cooked a hell of meal. Sorry if I butchered these names, because the libations were fantastic as well.12/10 Fulfilled all my culinary fantasies.
Great service and meal!
I love the food here, it truly is delicious. The prices are insanely low. I cant believe what they charge for this high quality food, but what kills me is the service. Its never packed like ever. Even on a Friday night Ive never seen more than 20 people there. My low review is just for the service, all the servers are quite respectful and knowledgeable about the dishes. The issue is how slow they are to do small stuff like bring you the check in a reasonable amount of time. 2 times Ive almost been late to my next event for the night.
Excellent food! Great service. Go.
Great service. Awesome staff. Delicious and creative food/drinks! Awesome atmosphere. Would recommend.
We had our rehearsal dinner at Braise. The upstairs private event space is wonderfully decorated and inviting. Becky, the event manager, was great to work with. She responded quickly to all my questions, which put my mind at ease. The food and drinks were incredible. Everyone loved the appetizers, braised beef, chicken confit, and desserts. Plus, the wine options that came with our beer and wine package were fantastic. Overall, I highly recommend Braise for your upcoming private event.
With an excellent variety of dishes and flavors, Braise is a top-notch experience for food lovers. Slightly different dining experience with plates designed for sharing which is perfect for groups as people can try many different things. Would definitely come back here and will recommend this place to others!
This is a dilemma for me. While this upscale restaurant has many great qualities, it is not a place I personally would go back to. Let me explain. I love the quiet, low key atmosphere. This is an old house that offers its diners a place to talk quietly and enjoy the evening. The wait staff were true professionals, willing to describe each dish and offer some great wine selections to pair with the food. My problem here is MY PROBLEM. I do not like my food piled in an attempt to make it look wonderful and to meld many flavors together. I have three rather small scallops in a broth that was very good. My wife h.ad the pan fried Grouper on top of crab hash topped with a red onion vinegairette. I thought the sauce overpowered the dish, but just my style of food. I realize the foodies love this type of presentation. If you are into this style this is a wonderful restaurant
We had a work Christmas party in the rooms upstairs at Braise. About 20 coworkers and all of our dates fit up here, so close about 40-50 people. They passed around the plates and we shared family style. The food was amazing and they let us take all the leftover boxes home, adding up to about 20 leftover boxes. The drinks were great and the servers were attentive to our large parties. I have been meaning to go back for just a regular dinner!
I didnt know most of the words on the menu but the food was awesome. The ambiance is perfect for a date! My boyfriend and I got to split a great bottle of wine by candle light. They also have coffee pairings with their desserts. Very neat
My wife and I truly enjoy the food here and have been to the establishment many times. Today though was our last! While the food really is excellent (hence a score above zero stars), the service is often atrocious. Today we went for lunch and waited 53 minutes for our two sandwiches and finally had to just cancel our order so we could get back to work. We were told several times that our food would be out in just a minute but that never happened. We were also told a couple of different reasons as to why it was taking so long. I want to make it clear that the place WAS NOT packed. There were many open and available tables inside and outside. I was a bit surprised that after we had to cancel our order they still charged us for our appetizer and lemonade. I thought that maybe after such dismal service they would want to do something to retain our business in the future. The fact that the server or manager didnt seem too upset about our poor experience was the final straw for us. Again, in fairness, the food is great but if you go expect to take a REALLY LONG lunch or dinner and if you go for dinner make sure you allow AMPLE TIME to ensure you dont miss anything you wanted to do after, like going to a movie.
I went here with a group of 9 people for a leadership meeting in order to enjoy each others company and also talk about some of our plans for this coming school year. They were very accommodating to our group and had a large table set up for us before we got there.I loved the decor and the fact that our table was right next to where the chefs were cooking our meals.
Went a while back so might be a little outdated FYI. Very high quality food in smaller than expect portions (for the standard Wisconsinite). Marked higher than I would for the plate, but is most likely due to how the food based on the season and isnt super processed. If youre a fan of this kind of thing then 5 stars.
Ive been here twice now, and on both occasions were exceptional. The running theme at Braise is locally sourced food, and as a result everything is extremely fresh. There is a downside, however: The meat can be on the tougher side; I had a Strauss veal tender loin that was a bit chewy, but otherwise delicious. On my prior visit, I ordered a lake trout dish that was fantastic. Tough meat aside, a visit to Braise means a great meal at a very fair price. Ive heard great things about the cooking classes as well.
LOVE Braise! Provides so many clean organic/gluten-free/dairy-free options. Upon calling ahead to ensure my husband would have options via omitting sauces or otherwise, they were INCREDIBLY accommodating and we had an amazing time - where we otherwise are extremely restricted to eating out due to his dietary needs. Weve since returned several times + have done their Tour de Farms ride. Food is always phenomenal... Ambiance trendy yet endearing... Rooftop garden is amazing... Culinary school available... Our hats go off to Braise!
Whatever you do wait for the cardamom cake for dessert. I don’t know when I’ve had such a beautifully spice cake with whipped honey or maple cream on top. But the beer braised pork was delicious the trout salad was amazing and the okonomiyami was delicious as well. David, our server, made for an all-around perfect meal.
I have been here only once and keep meaning to go back. Food is super delicious and love the ambiance. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for some delicious tapas.
Went to Chef Yia Vangs Vinai Takeover. Very delicious food, very refined Hmong food. Service was great.
Really great vegetarian options! Had the best carrot chickpea fries...didnt know it was a thing, but I will absolutely be ordering them again!
Excellent food, well presented, lovely well lit decor, not too noisy. We were able to have a normal conversation even though restaurant was full. Youthful. Two of us had full entrees, and one had small plates. Two small plates made a delicious meal, plenty, although for s hearty eater, three might be recommended. Drinks, wine and beer nice selection. I would definitely go again for a special meal.
First time visiting Milwaukee, WI. Googled best restaurants in the area and Braise popped up. The food was absolutely delicious. Received more food than anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed each and every bite!!! Our server, Jared, was professional and friendly. Will be back before leaving town...
Exceptional food, great service but the restaurant is so small you should anticipate no privacy.
Weve been to Braise twice now. They have done an excellent job working with me on my dietary needs. Every dish has been amazing! We had a large group with young kids and they helped us make the menu work for our kids as well! The staff is polite and helpful! The food is delicious! I would recommend Braise to anyone looking for great food, locally sourced, and a wonderful dining experience. I only wish there was a Braise closer to home so I could go more often.
Great food and great customer service.. I recommend their cheese plate for appetizer and if you had a chance to try their braised beef you would be amazed!! I LOVE this place and their food!!
Great atmosphere and experience after my first time going. Reasonably priced for the quality of the food as well. I will definitely go back.
Fantastic dinner & staff!!!
Loved it! Real chill spot with some bomb ass food. Bartender was cool. Told us what the popular dishes were and we tried them all. Everyone was great.
We had a very pleasant experience at Braise. We started with the black bean cake, followed by the butternut squash soup and a plate of cheese, all were delicious! Our waiter, Joel, was very helpful. I am a vegetarian who does not like mushrooms, he worked with the chef to come up with a delicious small plate for me to end my meal.
I would put this up there with the best restaurants in Milwaukee. They may be smaller plates and entres than usual but the quality is amazing. The chefs creativity and execution is just amazing. Definitely worth trying but be sure to make a reservation.
Fantastic farm-to-table restaurant! We sat near the kitchen and watched a careful assemblage of entrees proceed towards diners. I especially loved the Korean pork buns. The vegetables in our dishes were crisp, the drinks were balanced, and the vibe was pleasant and laid-back.
Had dinner this evening with 3 business associates. The lamb tarrine was phenomenal. The braised beef was incredibly tender. Our server was Laura M. She was very attentive with a great service attitude.
The food was nothing special. We tried several different plates and nothing wowed us. Extremely over priced. The service and atmosphere was nice. I cant believe this was rated #7 in Milwaukee s best restaurants.Dont think we will be back.
As usual, outstanding interesting food. We love coming here to experience new flavors and new flavor combinations. I also love to try the craft cocktails and unique desserts.
The restaurant is amazing looking. We got to sit right by the kitchen. The appetizer was amazing followed by the entree. I should have skipped the dessert. I will be back!
Words cannot describe how amazing this place is. 5 stars is not enough. Do yourself a favor and eat here over and over again. Amazing.
Fantastic experience. beautiful atmosphere. Food is delicious and affordable.
Really good food. We visited in May and had a fun assortment of in season vegetables (ramp, fiddlehead, wild foraged mushroom). For the price (~10/small plate) the experience is unbeatable. Very friendly staff, who led us on a little tour to the balcony and looked at the polish moon close up
Excellent food. Excellent service.
The presentation of the dishes was lovely. The food was wonderful. The service was great.
Excellent food and drink selection. The Pork Buns were spectacular as well the Braised Pork Small Plate.
Wish I had known about this place earlier. Food was simply great and really well executed, the Mixologist knows how to make great cocktails and the service was spot on and we were a table of 8. Price point really fair, am so coming back
Excellent food, great service. We will definitely go back!
Wonderful and sweet staff, puppy friendly l, delicious food. Will be a regular for sure!
Awesome local community restaurant and school! You need to support more places like this.
Overrated. Were been there three times and each experience was slow service and the place was not busy, very small portions and higher prices compared to other local farm to table eateries. Cold dishes a few times. Braise supposedly was the first farm to table restaurant in Milwaukee but they need to get their act together. Theres so many other restaurants to choose from now, one would think they would be more motivated to provide better service and food.
Bar tender was a total jerk when we asked him to describe the menu.... food was ok but the drinks and service were enough to ensure Ill never go back
We held a team-building cooking class at Braise and loved all the skills we learned and the wonderful food we cooked!-LoraDeWan Dental Wellness
Great food and service. Our go-to place for late Sunday breakfast.
One of the worst meals Ive ever eaten. Poor selection. Food was cold. Had to ask what I was eating. Needed gum afterwards to get the taste out of my mouth. Just terrible.
Good food, OK service.
Best small plate dining. Period.
Great service and food
Food is a tad bit too salty, especially the meats.
Always great food.
Consistently excellent!
Awful food....
Very disappointing menu.
Excellent!
