Great place with a friendly accommodating staff. Always a good selection of new and used vinyl. Only complaint is the prices are a little high for vinyl. But if you dig enough, you can find some real gems.
By far the BEST record store on Long Island. This store is like crack. Once you have one hit, youre hooked. Bonus points for the epic staff that work here. Very great environment.
Fair prices, great selection, nice staff
Street parking in front of store or around the corner is parking lot. Fair price for the items sold. I had called ahead to make sure I could bring items in for review Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
I love this place, great selection of CDs, Vinyl, DVDs, Games, Posters, etc etc. Really chill staff too, its a great place all around!
Great store, has a nice variety of music. The store could use a good dusting but overall its a great vibe and nice lively workers that give great music suggestions.
This is the best place if you are a true connoisseur of vinyl music !
Happened to be randomly passing by and stumbled upon this little gem of shop. I love that they have a huge selection of dvds, cds, vinyls, a few video games.
Great selection of music.
They have large assortment of used records, DVD, etc and will take your old stuff and give you store credit
The staff is beyond incredible. Very knowledgeable and respectful
Knowledgable and friendly staff over the phone and in person. Jessica helped me and was great. Thanks!
This place is a classic visit down memory lane. In addition vinyl records they have cassets, cds and even movies on old school discs like DVD and BlueRay... seriously the collection of records include some classics like Frank Sinatra and even current hits like Bruno Mars. The business is priced fair, you have your collection pieces that range from $50 to $100 but you also have clearence crates for $1. The location also offers a loyalty card as well using old fashion punch cards. The store staff us actually helpful, as you can imagine it is a bit of a specialty type store so the staff know their stock and a large variety of movies. The location looks a bit cheap feom the street and if youre looking for a clean modern location with wifi and coffee this is not for you, this is a classic experience that has that dusty musky experience where you should enjoy digging into the collections and spending some time.
I like browsing their for a good deal or something rare or hard to find. They constantly have new stuff added.
Awesome selection, great prices, and incredibly helpful & friendly staff. I feel safe here.
I went there to sell my dvds movies. Its like a family business you would come back to.
What an awesome place CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays even hard to find stuff just pure Nostalgia love coming here love the actual looking for a CD or a Blu-ray or even just surprisedly finding something to my surprise. Thank goodness that there are still places like this reminds me of the good old days walking into a record store. I definitely recommend this place love it will always come here
Love this place. Been going here for over 25 years
Pretty impressive CD store. They have a good variety of options and all CDs are in great condition.
This place is just ok and some of the prices on used stuff is a bit high. Also this store is not COVID-19 friendly . Aisles are way to small staff does not respect the general 6 ft rule. Had been bumped into by staff a few times while looking at records and CD’s. Owner acted as if I was wrong. Just walked out . Sorry for the negative comment. Other stores on LI are larger and safer. Will not return here.
This is probably my favorite store on Long Island. I’ve been a regular at Mr. Cheapos for at least 5 years now and I’ve never had a bad experience. The staff is delightful and helpful. They work hard to keep the place organized and are friendly. The selection is excellent as well! Records, CDs, Cassette, their inventory is impressive. I always look forward to my next visit to Mr. Cheapo’s. Bringing friends there is always fun as well. I am incredibly grateful for them surviving Covid thus far and look forward to returning as soon as I can!
Staff is cool as hell. A bit pricey for my blood though. Still shop there to try and find deals when I can
Terrific treasure chest of items, many out of print, at reduced prices. When you walk in, it can seem kind of intimidating at first. But soon youll realize everything is very well organized. Most of the items are in alphabetical order, which I know helps me locate things a lot easier. There is usually staff nearby to help, if needed. Love Mr. Cheapos!
Half decent store however could be a 10 or 20 or $30 record they dont give you any plastic sleeves
Excellent selection, and we get our shipments quickly. Thanks!!
I love this place awesome people great place to find or order what your looking for!! Must visit!
I would have to agree with Donald E., the owner is probably cheap enough to try to rip you off. At least what my experience would bewhen I visit this dump.
I’ve been going to Mr. Cheapos for about fifteen years. Cost is affordable and the staff is cool and informed. Always find something good while I’m there.
Great store, and staff. Im there every weel
Respect! Respect a true Record store. A long in the game type place. All sorts of music. It has that old library scent. Very happy to know this place has been around over 30 years.
I am a frequent customer of the Commack store and recently went to the MIneola location! All I can say is wow! Best Record Store in the tr-state area and the employees are super helpful and knowledgeable. they sell so much cool vintage stuff & new and never walk out empty handed. Long Live Cheapos!
The name says it all. They are very cheap if you trade in.
Awesome selection and cool store. Prices are pretty reasonable for vinyl, but still a bit pricey. Cassettes super cheap though, which is nice, and the largest selection of movies Ive ever seen in a store.
Great place, replaced my Aerosmith number 1 n Elton captain fantastic, damaged after Sandy. The guy with the nose ring is awesome, sorry didnt remember your name. I need a copy of hot tuna double dose!
Awesome place with a great Insta account. Great people behind this store go check it out!
Always a pleasant experience!Knowledgeable staff and great prices!
I have been shopping at Mr Cheapo,s for over 20 years. There selection of Jazz CD,s has always been worth the trip and lately the records have been surprisingly good also. Small store that has really great selection.
Awesome collection of vinyl and retro items. Good prices on records.
The best selection of new and used vinyl CDs cassettes and memorabilia. Has been around for ever and can see why. I used to go here when I was a kid and now Im bringing my son
People there are very respectful and a pleasure to have a conversation with! Would recommend it to be my favorite music store!
Just like the title says, you can find tons of CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, even old school VHS & cassettes that you cant find in most other places. They even take your old stuff for store credit, & theyre not without several items of memorabilia to sell. A great place for hard-to-find items!
First I want to say that the vinyl revival has been great and I am glad this store is there although in much need of improvement. There used to be some very cool and helpful people there but no more. The current bunch are rude and unhelpful making it clear they dont want to engage in talking of any kind. The vinyl in the back is not in good condition and is way overpriced. An example of this was a Louie Armstrong plays Handy that they marked for 39.99.Maybe It would be reasonable for $3.99.The Cd section is ok but almost all the cases are cracked and dirty.
Excellent store, they have CDs, Vinyl, & movies of every variety, highly recommend to all
Whether I’m buying or selling CD’s, Vinyl or DVD’s I find that they are offering fair prices and friendly service, especially from Marsha
Love love love this place.
Store is fantastic sell cassettes for a dime each
A place to find new n old treasures and all around great music. Great deals in store and online. Thanks you for being in business!
One of the last places to buy CDs
They have a great selection of most genres, especially old school thrash metal and rock albums.. They even have a small video game selection with old school titles. Thanks for selling me the Xbox. Sad to say my last experience in the store was anything but fun. I was treated extremely rudely by one of their employees, as such I dont see myself going back there. Cheers.
Staff there is very helpful and knowledgeable in all genres of music!!! Maybe your looking for something rare. This is a really good record store that has everything you would need for music. They sell CDs DVDs blu-rays & vinyl. They even sell turntables to play it.
I’m so done with this place. I’m going to post a seperate review stating the many other reasons this place, well the people there mostly, are the worst, most unprofessional in the business. But I won’t get into those details here, this post is actually for something so simple that it’s beyond baffling that I even have to do this. Anyway, I called them to find a pretty hard to find item as I’ve done many times in the past and that they actually do have it in stock. I tell them that I should be there either tonight or tomorrow, as my schedule is pretty hectic and I live in queens and work out in the Hamptons so I don’t get much time to do these things. But here I am, finding myself with an hour or so to spare tonight, so I decide to take the drive out. I look on the website just to confirm that they are open until 8, and even call them back asking to make sure of the hours, and it is indeed 8 pm. I did hit a little traffic coming out but I pulled up to the place at 7:55, run around the corner, just to see the lights off and the place is closed. I drove 45 minutes for an $8 item that I would have rather, now in the past, given them the money before buying it online or somewhere more convenient, but I know the true meaning of supporting local independent record stores, and if that means giving them a tiny amount of my business that I’m doing my part. But I’ve officially learned they do not care about the customer. I won’t get further in depth on my opinion here because this review has been years in the making and I want to completely think out the next and last one I’ll be leaving for them. But to think, that staying open until your scheduled time that is posted publicly online, is too much extra work, it just shows the total disrespect for the guy on the other side of the counter, us. 5 minutes and you lost a customer for life. Such a shame.
Great please to search for that vinyl record you have been looking for. Their prices are excellent and the quality and selection is very diverse. The staff are friendly and helpful if you ask them anything. Otherwise they wont bother you while you look thru their 1000s of records, cds and even cassette tapes! Being a suburban store, they have much better selections vs the pretentious Manhattan and Brooklyn stores.
Great selection... but I couldve done without the sales person making his racist comments. Wont be going back there!!!!
Great staff, great selection, and a great atmosphere.
Many interesting CDs, DVDs and Vinyls. If you like older music, worth stopping by.
My favorite record shop. Lots of vinyl.
CDs and Vinyl (new and used) staff are very helpful. Prices for new Vinyl are higher than the internet. Great selection of used CD s and Vinyl (in the back)
This is my go to place for filling in the holes in my c.d. collection. The staff is always friendly and willing to help when needed.
I Go to Cheapos all the time! Best Record store on Long Island!!! Really liked the selection of rock records they had there. They helped me find the ones I was looking for and were even cool to chat with. :)
Great store for your music & video needs. Ive also found some great rare video game gems here. Most of the time, overstock items are in boxes on floor. Youll want to wear clothes that you can get dirty just in case you want to get down on your knees to look items that on lower shelves on in boxes. After looking at a box full of Nintendo cartridges, down on the floor, my clothes and shoes were filthy. Sadly, sweeping or moping isnt one of the staffs highest priorities.
Found everything I wanted, including very hard to find LPs like Van Morrison s Moondance, Steely Dan s Cant Buy a Thrill. Well worth the trip. My kids even found some nice PS3 games they like.
Good music shop. We got some great broadway show CDs there!
I do love heading here to look through their stock, but it is worth noting that they tend to overprice more popular records on purpose. As general advice, come here to search the stacks for random fun and discoveries. If you have a popular record in mind then you may want to check out Discogs instead. Overall it is a nice store and most of the employees are friendly once you get to know them. Lots of records and CDs. Decent selection of cassettes. Some reel to reel and 8 track.
Great selection of C ds. OK selection of DVDs. Vinyl is very expensive and overpriced.
Great place for cds, dvds, records at very low prices.went back on several occasions.loved it
Cool store, nice guys. Not exactly cheapo, but not too bad
Very nice CD store, great customer support 5/5
Great atmosphere, great workers, cool albums and games and shows. Go and find some cool stuff!
Best place on earth to buy music you like and sell music others might like
Very rude staff. Unpleasant experience. They in no way want to interact with the customer. Wont go back!
My FAVE spot for those hard to find CDs!!
Walking into Mr. Cheapo is like walking into a scene from the John Hughs movie High Fidelity. It is filled with album antique as well as new material, has the Dead Poets Society like vibe for coolness and lack of comformity, but most of all it has the tunes and the artwork.Great selection of vinyl, cds and more. This place is an institution and worth a day trip even if you are just going for the experience.
One of the most fun stores on the island. One of the best places to find LaserDiscs, bar none
Don’t bother. I was told they would pay 20 cents a disk but was offered less! Dishonest!! They also didn’t take most, which I then donated to my local library. I wish I had donated all for the pittance they paid me.
Mr. Cheapos is a solid spot for bin digging. Expect to pay a premium if a record is relatively popular. But a lot of gems kicking about.
Always a pleasurable experience shopping at either store. Ive been shopping in Mr.Cheapo CDs for at least 15 years and its a great place to find rare Cds and Records.
Not witstanding an extraordinary choice of lps an cds I was disarmed by thr kindness of the owners and staff and by their willingness to help locate what i was looking for. Beside the prices were unbeatable. I highly recommend the store for music aficionados or for that matter anyone music lover.
Fantastic selection AND prices of used vinyl & cassettes. Cant wait to go to the Commack store as well!
Excellent service and great value
I need to go back. Lots of great vinyl
I love Mr. Cheapo. But even if I didnt already love the place heres an example of why...Im going to see a live podcast next week called How Did This Get Made, where they watch an old ridiculous movie and then discuss the ridiculousness therein. They announced that the movie for the live show would be Freejack, a movie Ive never seen before. It was also not available on the internet to stream, rent or buy. I googled DVD stores in the area with no real hope of finding this obscure out of print movie. Oh duh, Mr. Cheapo popped up on Yelp. I bet they actually have that movie. I called up and of course they did and the manager Jessica held the copy for me to pick up. It probably wouldnt have been as fun the see the podcast if I hadnt seen the movie but now I can for just $2.99.So, thanks Mr. Cheapo for enriching my life again.(And I also got a mint copy of the Hair soundtrack. Booya!)
Lots of cds, dvds records and more
Huge selection of records, cds, misc items of historic and recent musical items -- all reseaonably priced.
Needed some CDs for My elderly father-in-law, show tunes and some of the old time crooners. Not only did they have all of those and more, but they had a DVD for our grandson who happened to be with us. Staff extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Whether ur just looking for something that the big chains no longer carry or ur a real audiophile looking for a rare recording, this is definitely the place to look! Will be back for sure.
Great cd selection great people loved it
Chill staff, great selection!
Excellent, Very Well organized, Clean, Friendly, Extremely Well Knowledged service
I always find some rare stuff at this location they never let me down ;) hope they stay in business its tough for a record store these days.
Really friendly staff, and an amazing selection.
Love this place great selection good people
Grat Place to find Unusual Music
Great place to find in excellent condition unexpected nostalgia
Worse customer service everVery rude Not professional at allIf u want to sell your record save your time they low ball you. dont go to this place I wish I give them no star.
I give this place five starsThe sanitation is goodEvery staff member is always helpful and friendlyVERY LARGE AND MASSIVE COLLECTIONGood pricesRecords,dvds,CDs,cassettes,vhs,8 track, video gamesAll genres of musicOrganizedAir conditioned so you stay coolIm ditching my old music store and coming here because this place is so much betterI have also been able to grow cassette collection because they have everything Ive dreamed of,and never knew I needed!
Great for old vinyls love this place spent 400 bucks here
Nice place, wide variety of stuff, greay staff! I have shopped there many times and will again.
Prices are all over the place and are to high for basic LPs. No deals also. If Im stacking and have about 7-10 LPs take $5 off or just round it off to a price. Do that and you would have sold a stack.. but I just got 1 LP at a ok price. The good thing is this is not the last store on the planet.
One of my favorites places
Guys there are awesome! Very friendly place.
