Bought dress on 8/15 and left to have stones check to make sure they were secure. Called multiple time and never could get a hold of anyone. Finally got ahold of someone on 9/15 and she still hadn’t done anything to the dress. Dance is 9/18. Also very rude on the phone and to the person that picked up the dress for me. Dresses are beautiful but not sure worth the hassle or the rude customer service.

Dresses are fine but DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DRESS THERE FOR ALTERATIONS! I had 3 pre-scheduled times to come in and pick up my dress and each time I got there she had not even started the alterations. Each time she assured me she would have the work done by my appointment and each time, there was nothing done, and she said she had too many important things to get too such as a prom scheduled the weekend of mine...my prom, and that she wouldnt be able to do all the things she promised. My friend who also was having alterations done there came with me to see her dress and it also had not been started and Cindy said that she had never even requested alterations. If that was the case, why would she have left her dress there in the first place?

I drove all the way here because Google said the store is open. Nope. They are only by appointment except on weekends.

The people at special effects are very hard to work with and they do NOT ANSWER CALLS OR DO ALTERATIONS WELL AT ALL. They are very mean and not considerate to customers. Definitely will not be going back.

Owner was very patient with my daughter and I. She hand picked out dresses that normally she would not try and fell in love with her 1 and only Prom dress

Cindy is wonderful to work with. We found my daughters fairytale wedding gown at a very reasonable price. Even during this pandemic, Cindy was available to work with us, do alterations on the dress and the grooms suit, and had everything ready on time. We highly recommend Special Effects and have been telling all of our friends and family about it.

Got an expensive dress from her that I love but she took months to get it done. She ignored calls, and 3 days before prom said she was not going to get some things done. We had to find someone last minute to make things out of the material. Very difficult to work with and not professional. Would not recommend shopping there. If you do shop there, do not leave your dress there.

If zero was a option that would be what I rate this place . Drove a hour and half to take daughter in to look at prom dresses, which are way overpriced. Staff followed us around as if we were going to steal something, my daughters and I could barely touch a dress to see what they looked like without having the lady hovering . The dressing rooms were nothing to but less than desirable. Definitely wont be back!!

We had a great and personal experience with Cindy and her daughter for my daughters first homecoming dress. They made her feel so special. It was great. Day before the dance they steamed her dress and mended a hook and eye in just a few hours. We will go back next year!

They were so so helpful and their dresses were all gorgeous. The one I ended up with was of course the first one I tried on and I also picked out a pair of earrings to go with and Cindy, the owner who had been helping us, was such a huge help and super sweet lady. Would definitely recommend going there if you want your dream dress and great/helpful/quality service.

I have been here twice. Their service is wonderful, their selection is fantastic. The dresses I looked at were between $300-600 and they guarantee that no Dress from their store will be found at the same school! I have also bought the jewelry from Special Effects to match the dress while I have it in the store. Cindy is fantastic and super sweet and patient while I tried on a bunch of dresses to find the perfect one. The detail on the dresses are fantastic!!!! Thanks for all the genuine help and honest opinions I asked for to be able to find the perfect dress!

My daughter was getting married and took her dress, along with bridesmaid dresses to be altered. We had her make the flower girls dresses as we were looking for something different. We provided her with the pattern and material for each. She missed the deadline for all the dresses and when we final got the finished products, they were poorly put back together and seems and padding were uneven. We got them just a few days before the wedding, which was 3 months later than we requested them. She had them for over 6 months waiting to be altered. Plus, the flower girl dresses she was supposed to make, she chose to change the pattern to an easier, less attractive version from what we requested, and there was no time to change them so we had to make due with what appeared to be amateur sewing skills. We also found out upon arrival that she hasnt touched the grooms and grooms mens tuxes, so we had to take them from her and find another seamstress. She was very rude and her people skills very much need worked on. Would not recommend to anyone this place ever. She cannot make a deadline and her sewing skills werent great.

Customer service is horrible. The owner is not friendly by any means. She acts is if customers are a burden in her store! Called several times to ensure the place is open before we arrive and each time they verify they will be open until 7pm. We usually arrive around 5:30pm and they have locked up and closed! The operating hours need to be updated on google maps to 11am to 3 PM everyday. Waste of time to even try this store! Not recommended!

They have a lot of pretty dresses but very overpriced. As soon as me and my 2 friends walked in a couple of dresses caught my eye and an older lady right away told us how much it was as if we couldn’t afford it and then continued to hover around us and just stare at us. Made us feel very uncomfortable.

Rude lady

Dresses were fine, but the staff was a different story. Very pushy and hovering, and demanded I come out of the dressing room when I didnt like the dress I had tried on. When I said no, the lady went to open the curtain to the dressing room anyway, but I stopped her because I didnt even have the dress on anymore. I wasnt wearing anything! There were other customers that almost saw me but I grabbed the curtain in time. Overall very overbearing and made me extremely uncomfortable.

The dresses here are absolutely beautiful but I would NEVER RECOMMEND TO GET YOUR DRESS ALTERED HERE. I bought my homecoming dress 3 months ago and had it altered here. 3 weeks later I came in to help my friend pick a dress and MY dress was STILL hanging on the rack, untouched!!! About two months later and 3 days before my homecoming date I called because I never had received a call that it was done. I was not going to let my senior year of homecoming be ruined because of a lazy seamstress. So I called multiple times and left multiple messages. They finally answered and told me my dress hasnt even been started on. They had my dress for 3 MONTHS!!! She finally got her ass in gear and finished my dress 2 days before my hoco date. Long story short...dont get tricked by the cheap alteration prices. Its totally NOT worth the frustration and time!!!!

Essentially told my daughter who is a perfect and beautiful size 8/10 that she was gonna break a dress she tried on because it was wayyyy too small. It wasn’t. Then when my daughter’s aunts went to use the bathroom, I believe it was the owner chastised her employees, “WHO IS watching them?!??!!” Watching them??? Steal a prom dress in your bathroom? Where does one stuff a prom dress to steal it? Watched us like hawks, for no reason, were rude and just strange. One young lady was very sweet and helpful. They should back off and let her work with customers. Lots of dresses but many were outdated.

Website said open till 7:00 Thursdays, I drove 30 minutes to shop there to find them closed at 6:00! Needs to redo website so potential customers wont waste time and gas.

My daughter purchased her Homecoming dress here in mid-August. She returned to be measured for alterations 1-2 weeks later. I did not hear anything from the shop, so finally called 2 weeks before the October 7th dance to determine when her second fitting would be. I was informed that the person who does alterations was out due to personal reasons and had taken the dress with her to make sure we had the dress for our event. This was said like they were doing me a favor. I was also informed they dont do second fittings and that we would be able to pick the dress up on the Thursday or Friday before the dance. This was not feasible because we live an hour away and my daughter had school commitments both evenings She ended up being able to pick the dress up on the Wednesday before the dance. The alterations were not well done but there was no time to correct this.Needless to say, we wont be shopping here in the future and would never recommended this business to anyone.

I heard postive things so I took my bridesmaid dress to Cindy to be altered. The day I was expecting to pick up the dress, she had not even begun to work on it. I left with an un-altered dress.
