This is definitely one of the coolest comic shops you can find. They have an INCREDIBLE selection of backlog comics, trade paperbacks, OGNs, and independent and local comics. The staff is super friendly and offer great recommendations, and have really done a lot to make their shop super welcoming and easy to navigate.Their new space is a fantastic fit for them and I simply love walking around the shop. I cant recommend this place enough!

This is one of the best comic book stores I have ever been to. They seem to know everything about any question you may have about a comic book or series of books.Lots of Vinyl Pop Funko Characters, special action figures and more. They offer events throughout the year such as having the artists in store, classes and even sometimes have local bands perform in the store on special occasions. They even sell original artwork from local artists that fit in great with the store and definitely a comic collector’s home.Jeff and his staff go out of their way to accommodate all customers. Jeff also supports other local business, artists and musicians. If you believe in supporting small local businesses, East Side Mags is a small local business to keep in mind when trying to think of businesses to support.The owner is a big supporter of the Montclair Music Scene.

This review is purely based on their prices for Pokémon cards. They are scalping the heck out of them. Way above retail prices - like a lot of other game / comic shops sadly. Went in there the other day and they had plenty of new release product just sitting there - sure because they are priced so high - even more than some eBay listings… Thankfully I was able to find some stuff at Target and pay retail price. Trying to make a quick buck and scalp because others are doing it will alienate you and lose you some would be loyal customers… would love to support a local business but not with these practices… hope you guys change for the better.Edit - response to owner: You are one of the scalpers. Not a valid reason for scalping yourself. You think charging the same / more as scalpers will help kids get cards. No - and it’s not just about kids, I’ve been in the game since it first started when I was 12 in the late 90s. That’s like saying comic books are just for kids. How about you put limits in place or get creative and quiz people about the game or require a valid deck to be brought in - if you know anything about the game yourself. Seems to me you are just in it to score some extra cash while it’s hot. But when things go back to normal, and they will cause it’s getting easier and easier to find stuff at Target, Walmart, GameStop, BestBuy, etc… plus some online shops - at retail - I hope people remember how you decided to scalp as well and let that guide where they spend their money.

Okay, so I will say this, the owner of this store is really amazing. I usually am nervous of going into some hobby stores because while I want to know more, often times the people that work there are rude and fairly condescending. However, the owner (sorry, didnt catch his name) is patient and explained everything well and was very nice and incredibly helpful without making me feel dumb for asking. Honestly, I plan on ordering all my graphic novels and things from here because its so important to support folks who love what they do, and love sharing it with their customers. Highly recommend shopping here, or even just stopping by to listen to the dope music.

I love this place. Very organized compared to other comic shops I’ve been to. The workers there are always super nice and helpful with finding comics and giving recommendations. Definitely going to keep coming back.

Love this place! Old school comic shop vibe with new school owners. They always have things going on in the shop from stand up comedy to comic artists signing their work. Prices are very fair and management is warm and welcoming- ready to bug you out with you about new trends and comics!

Great comic book store. I have not been in too many, but this one was the best. The owner was super nice and willing to help in anyway. Made some suggestions based upon my interests and pointed me in the right direction. Lots of cool things in this store which is clean, neat and organized. Was not the only to share the same views since this place has been the voted the best in their category 3 years straight. I would go back.again.

My son is a big comic book collector and we frequent comic stores in the area on a daily basis. This store had a very rude employee. Won’t ever come back.

The clerk was super helpful and the comics were super inclusive. He told me about the mystery pack comics that he made today and said that the books he put in there had very good reviews. I would totally visit again ❤️

This place is awesome! I went there to pic up some comic books for my nephews for Christmas. Good selection of Indie comics. And the day I went, Patrick Wilson, who plays the Ocean Master in Aquaman was doing a signing. The staff is so nice and helpful.

Ive been going to this shop for the past year and the guy working behind the counter is starting to get shady and rude. There were a couple of new comics that he checked the price on ebay before trying to sell them to me for more money. I left and went to another shop 20 min away and found them for cover price. I also tried to have some small talk with him and it seemed that he was annoyed....Im done with this place

First time visiting this store and will not be my last. Well organized, well lit, and clean. Staff was very friendly, and easy to speak with. What is great about this store is all the different events they offer. They have a Saturday drawing class, and sketch days. Just a cool comic book store.

This was the most organized I have ever seen $1 comics. They also have a beautiful mural on their front counter that entertained my 4 year old.

I remember sending the store a letter telling them about how much i loved there store, and how awesome the people there are. They gave me a free shirt, (which usually costs $20 or so) and we had a long conversation.That was 5 years ago, but the customer service and chill vibe of these guys has only gone up since then! They are willing to have little chats with fans of certain series, but are very welcoming to new fans of comics. I love this shop, and i love the people who run it.

Fun little comic book store. Good activities for kids on Saturdays. The man that worked there today was very nice and greeted both me and my infant son one our way in and walked over to see if we needed any help. He then found me something I liked based on my question. I like that level of customer service.

Excellent comic shop in downtown Montclair. They have lots of events throughout the year on the weekends like free comic book day, Batman day, etc. There’s an awesome mannequin out front always and he’s dressed in different superhero attire which is fun for the kids. They also have art classes on the weekends for the kids which they love. Only downside is parking in the area can be hard particularly during busy times.

By far the BEST comic shop I have been to in my 30+ years. The owner Jeff and his staff make you feel comfortable and right at home. Its located in a great spot, always clean and organized. They have special events for their customers which is always appreciated. No surprise they were voted the #1 Comic Shop in Essex County. Keep up the good work.

Amazing staff and fantastic selection of comics. I like the layout of the store, too. Its small, but not uncomfortable, and I dont have trouble finding what I need. It is not too cluttered and there are some toys, statues, and other collectibles worth seeing. Plus, there are plenty of boxes of back issues to go through.

Took my nephew. He asked the staff questions and the staff was nice and helpful. Got my nephew a Simpson comic book and the staff offered us comic book donuts with purchase. Super nice people.

Its a good place if there aren’t any alternatives in the area. They’re prices are a bit iffy. Once saw a death of Superman book in the dollar bin. A few months later saw that same book in the $10 bin. Another time I saw a green lantern book selling for $30, the weird thing is I had just bought that same book for $12 at a local shop only 25 mins away. Staff are friendly.

My fiancé and I decided to use East Side Mags for our wedding invitations since we reside in Park Slope and our experience with them has been nothing short of spectacular. Melinda and her staff are very attentive and extremely knowledgeable. She and her team gave us exactly what we wanted, understood our taste and never tried to push us over budget. When you walk in to the store, someone is there to help you right away and you always feel like you are being taken care of. Their product line is extensive, their rates are very reasonable and their turn around time is really fast. All in all a top-notch place to go!

Great comic shop. Has everything I’ve ever wanted from a comic shop, and can always special order things for you if they don’t! Jeff and Chris (and I’m sure any other employees that I simply haven’t met yet) are both very kind and inclusive; totally going against the stereotype of the “snobby comic book guy”. They also host all sorts of fun events and midnight launches for special comic book series.

This is a comic book shop that will become your go-to! Great knowledgeable staff who are always happy to help, and a fun assortment of genre items. Even better, Jeff keeps the place hopping with great events and activities that always keep the community in mind.

East Side Mags brought comics back into my life. Its been awesome having such a great store right here in town. They have a great selection of books in the store, the pull box system is very cool, and the events are always fun. Plus, the dude who runs the place has awesome taste in music so I always find myself lingering to bop my head to the tunes.

Very informed staff that are beyond happy to help out or converse with about anything and all stuff comics. Fun little shop overflowing with comics as well as other merch related to it. If youre looking for DC or Marvel comics they seem like they have it all. Its kind of limited on the Image, IDW and Indies side, but thats where the market is so I cant blame them. Cool atmosphere and the clerks are nice.

Great place for comics and Friday night mtg. My daughter wanted to learn how to play mtg and i found East side mags. During our visit, they recommended for us to return on friday so she could learn how to play from other players and the judge. We went back on friday, and Jeff asked his judge if he could teach her how to play. The judge was great, very patient, and took his time to make sure she learned the basics. My daughter loved it so much that I ended up buying her more cards, and some comics too. Recommended to anyone. We will be back on Fridays so she can play more... and I can play mtg with her.
