This is one of the most beautiful bookstores I’ve ever visited—and I’m covering quite a lot of ground, lately.On a side street in a gorgeous, little town on the Wallkill River, this shop has the kind of charm that envelops you into literary bliss. Orderly, well-curated, beautifully furnished with the latest in shelving design—though it is a rather small shop, it is jammed with fantastic used books, both of recent vintage and of ancient, antique age. The clerk has a big heart and most friendly, outgoing character, and he’s willing to do anything to make the shopping experience a wonderful one. Prices are fair, selections whimsical, and every nook and cranny has a fun surprise, in this shop.I am sorry I forgot to ask the clerk’s name, because I’d like to, once again, thank him for a wonderful shopping experience.

This is a beautiful book store. I unfortunately had to move and sell some books, but now I have a credit towards half off some new books when I find a new place! The owner was very friendly and kind. He assured me my loved books would go to good homes! They also just opened a childrens bookstore nearby! Support a local business! Go give my books a good home! Thanks! Xoxo

After visiting a local park we stopped off at the restaurant next to this bookstore and had a wonderful meal and then we poked our head through the door of this wonderful bookstore and realized we were in the right place. It is a quaint friendly open place with a bookstore owner who loves his job and wants to share with the world the experience of A Real Bookstore. We found so many books we were looking for and it was the perfect ending to this day

Such an amazing shop! So many great books and gifts! This family is encouraging young readers and refreshing the reader in all of us! They have programs and classes, online shopping and live sales. They are helping save the environment too! The shop itself is just cozy and warm! A must visit if in Montgomery!

Walt is great! If youre looking for cheap books in great conditions this is a must stop destination. This bookstore also has a rare collections area with fair prices.I recently attended a large sale and could not fit all the boxes if books in my car.Definitely worth the trip.

The most perfect bookstore. Something for everyone. We drive an hour to pick up books & donate books. They were a great resource these past few months for me to bring my dad books who couldnt go to the library. Walt & Claire are the loveliest owners great to see them when we go there. Montgomery Book Exchange has an excellent variety of books and activities for book lovers. Walter & Claire are friendly and helpful, going the extra mile to personally serve their customers. Our family enjoys the monthly book club, game nights, and shopping for Wearable Words gifts. The bag of books sales are the best!

Walter and Claire are so friendly and put you so at ease, I feel like Im with family when I shop here! Between their online sales, booths at all sorts of Markets and Art Walks (especially their new spot at the Artisan Market in Middletown), they are doing the most to bring their business all over Orange County! As one of the only bookstores in the area, they are a fantastic crew to support!

Awesome environment full of books (as well as some other assorted goodies like the occasional puzzle or old game). Great place to go just to pick up something new to read. The owner is also very invested in the community and frequently participates in good will outreach.

The prices are very reasonable, the person working there when I went in was very helpful. I didnt really like the atmosphere, though. Before coming in, there was a box with books haphazardly tossed into it. They looked really disrespected, and it was sad to see. The space inside was cramped and the music wasnt conducive to relaxing — if anything, it just distracted me. Id say that this is a place Id dip in for five, ten minutes if I were looking for something. But, its not a place Id hang out. As a note, parking is along the street. There are parking lots around, but the ones I saw had signs specifically outlining their use for employees and customers of those businesses. Just be careful if youre from out of town and dont want to get your car towed. (Rating: 3.5 stars rounded up to 4)

Every day I enter I feel so welcome. Walt is absolutely polite and accommodating. The books are so neatly stacked. Its somewhere I could get lost in for hours. I highly recommended this gem of a place not only for the books, but the atmosphere.

Great little bookstore. They buy and sell used books, and even give away books that were donated but in too poor of condition to sell. Always keep an eye out on their social media pages for upcoming sale and events. They even have a writers groups that meets regularly. I wish them continued success. Great selection, and even better atmosphere. Worth checking out if youre in the area. Never know what gem you might find for a great deal.

Great little book store that takes in your old books and gives you credit towards new books. Owner is very knowledgeable and will try to get anything you ask for. Good selection of antique books as well.

Love this bookstore! Very quaint and owner is very friendly and helpful. Have coffee and baked goods at the store. They hold a variety of events each month. Great asset to Montgomery, NY!

Fred and I enjoy the once a month Tuesday Poetry and Open Mic. Wonderful poets and talent! At the same time, during break, WE peruse the books and I have found quite a bit of gems to add to my library at home!
