Website is a great source for what products United Rentals. I called Napa location to verify availability - they were knowledgeable of their products and pleasant to work with.

We made a reservation for rental equipment, hired a crew of three workers for the day, and sent one of the workers to go pick up the equipment first thing the morning we were scheduled to work. We were told that despite our reservation, there was no equipment being held for us and whoever made the reservation shouldnt have made it in the first place. The equipment wont be available for over three weeks. Overall a complete waste of time and money for us, with no offer to rent a comparable machine for the day or to call if any equipment becomes available sooner than three weeks.I asked the customer service rep to pass along a message to the manager that we would have appreciated a call to let us know that equipment would not be available prior to the morning of the reservation. This would have saved us hiring a crew and making a trip to Napa. She said shell leave a note on [our] next reservation to call ahead of time and confirm the reservation. We have our fingers crossed that equipment is actually held for the reservation next time.

Im a contactor and rented a texture machine that did not work. Cost me half a day. They charged me the rental fee anyway. Id stay away from this place as will all my contactor friends.
I am a vineyard manager in Napa Valley. United rentals is the worst rental company I have ever used and I have used a lot of them. I am only talking about the Napa store. I was supposed to have a rental 12 inch chipper on Friday it was not held for me. Also the time to pay a man to go get a chipper that was not there. Then to make things right, so they say they were going to have a chipper for me Monday morning at 8 AM. It showed up at 1 PM, I had two men waiting for this for five hours which I had to pay. When it showed up it is the wrong chipper a much bigger one that would not go up the hill to where we needed it. We tried to use it, but the teeth were so dull it jammed. For this wonderful experience they charge me $1150, I complained vehemently and they will not refund my money. They said they have to fix the machine, I have never rented a machine that if it broke it was my problem. I have to say without a doubt, the assistant manager and the Napa store of United rentals will never see me again and I will never give them a good word. I will actually love to tell the world about how bad they act. The worst business practices I have ever seen.
