This place was great. They have Black Abbey Brewing Company on tap.Natalie was super nice and pleasant whilst taking our order.I had the SC Burger (bacon, white cheddar and pickled red onions) with a 44 Porter and a Celebration Fest Bier from Black Abbey on tap. Side of fries.Flat Mate had Hot Chicken Ramen AND hot chicken Tacos with fries and a coke. The burger, ordered rare, came out rare and juicy. Crispy bacon and melty cheddar with crisp briny sweet onions was dynamite and the fries were hot and crisp. The medium Nashville Hot Chicken was way hotter than medium (but that’s how Nashville Hot Chicken works - it’s a thing. A good thing). Here’s the breakdown:Friendly, fast service from Natalie +1 star, Black Abbey on tap +1 star, food made they way you want +1 star, great fries +1 star and a dive like motif +1 star.I’ll definitely go again.
Grabbed lunch here solely on their reviews and was not disappointed. Yeah, it’s not much to look at but the churrasco I had was so flavorful. The cook on the steak was perfect and the seasoning was spot on. It would be so easy to take this place to the next level. Looking forward to our next meal
Updated August 2021This is still a fantastic local restaurant with delicious hot chicken served many different ways. You will not be disappointed in the hot chicken tacos which comes three to an order and are very filling!Went there for Nashville Hot Chicken week and had their terrific hot chicken sandwich. If thats an indication of how awesome the rest of their menu will be, I will definitely come back! The staff were also super friendly and helpful. the only downside about this restaurant is that it small so either get there early or you may have to be prepared to share a table or wait (and its worth the wait).
Amazing fries and chicken and waffles. Highly recommend eating there as it does not take out best. Still amazing flavor and will be coming back soon
The best hot chicken sandwich around. The tacos take a close second place.Always elevated food with a hole in the wall feel. You know you’ve found a special place when you dine here. Snag a kombucha or beer to go with your meal!
We got the Hot chicken tacos, empanadas, and their churrasco sandwich and everything was SO delicious. I loved the variety of food on the menu... I feel like anyone could find something they love here. I also was super appreciative of their outdoor patio seating during covid. We were able to enjoy our meal safely!
The Hot Chicken Tacos are the best Hot Chicken dish in town.Aside from the hot chicken, everything weve had has been delicious with their own unique kind of take on it. Owners and staff are awesome. Definitely recommend.
Ive visited Nashville a few times over the past several months and this is far and above the best food Ive had there. The tacos in particular are incredible (and the medium spicy is probably very hot to most people). Just amazing. Every time Im in the city, I have to go here at least once.
The beef empanadas are second to none!Love their iced and regular Americano. Also had the butternut squash taco...delicious!Just a wonderful gem of a place.
Subculture can be labeled as diamond in the rough. I love this little spot. It has an out door patio, which is a plus. The couple, who owns this restaurant, has the most intriguing love story. Christina works in the front. Shes very helpful and welcoming. Pablo is the head chef. He always checks on how you enjoy your food, and is open to your suggestion for improvement.I like their hot fried chicken sandwich. The dough is homemade and the chili powder is the real deal. I dare to get medium. So spicy good! Their churassco is fantastic. The egg is running, and beef is moist. You have to try it! They close on Sunday.
Never had a bad experience, food is great and the staff is always super friendly and always willing to answer any questions.
This is a fantastic hidden gym. They have a great draft beer selection for such a small place. The steak churrasco sandwich, pimento cheese burger, and fries are ridiculously good. I will definitely be back again soon.
The best ramen and hot chicken in the area! Hot chicken is very crispy and flavorful! Always get the empanadas with hot chicken, you’ll thank me later! Not much room to sit but soooo worth it!
Excellent!! Was in the mood for noodles so I ordered the pulled pork ramen!! Pork was cooked to melt in your mouth. Broth seasoned perfectly. Portion size decent although I could have eaten more. Thank you!!
Tucked away inconspicuously in a shopping center, don’t let this spot’s difficult to see storefront dissuade you from eating there. Over my many visits to Nashville the past couple years, this was by far the best hot chicken I’ve had. The varied spice blend makes the heat that much more enjoyable and remarkable that any run of the mill hot chicken spot. Go and try it!
Love this place! Best hamburger and french fries Ive ever had.
Best Cuban sandwhich Ive ever had. Anytime I go to a restaurant and I see a Cuban, I try it. By far the best around.
One of the best affordable restaurants in Nashville. Hispanic fusion cuisine. Very unique menu items, and each one is delicious. You cant go wrong here.
First time here. Wont be the last. Food was amazing. Hot chicken tacos and Churrasco sandwich. Yum.
This food is amazing, definitely worth stopping in for food. My kids even love it, they havent stopped saying how great it is since their first bite. Hands down a new favorite for sure and when Im in the area I will definitely be stopping here again
An amazing mix of interesting menu items. We tried the hot chicken and waffles and the 1st place burger. The food tastes hand crafted with love with each thing having a great flavor profile. The fries were thick cut and well seasoned. I wanted to eat them instead of them just being on the plate. I am looking forward to going back to try the beer selection and many other things on the menu.
The absolute best hot chicken tacos and fusion burgers. They arent kidding with the spiciness levels ;)
Everything on the menu here is incredible.Everything is made to order, so the wait is longer than fast food but very well worth it for the quality.
Being from out of town of course we had to find the best hot chicken we could find. We searched high and low and came across Subculture. Not exactly a hole in the wall, or off the beaten path but located within a busy strip mall, upon arriving they was a short line to get in. The restaurant was small, just a few tables tables inside and a few outside. The menu is simple, but plenty to choose from.We ordered a bit of everything. But when you stop in (and you should) make sure to get the hot chicken sandwich. AMAZING! Now I just need to figure out how to recreate, a door dash driver willing to go the distance, or get them to ship them because I can’t stop thinking about that sandwich. Give this review a like if you agree and let me know I’m not crazy!
A hidden gem. Subculture knows how to do hot chicken tacos. Theyre salad is also phenomenal. Highly recommend.
Soo glad I found this place! Empanadas are delicious!
Loved this place! Husband got hot chicken tacos and I got the butternut tacos. Very very good! He said the hot chicken was better than Hattie Bs.
Very impressed. Good food that is consciously thought out, original, refined and unique. Suits todays foodie with a chill atmosphere (location is getting better, slowly, but yes it is).Feeds: Carnivore,VG,GF,V. And the craft beer junkie.A little pricey for the area and what you get but this I see as a good thing that actually helps them. They definitely dont want the Little CiCi crowd. And new Starbucks should help drive their traffic to this place. Eat at subculture and hang out at Starbucks. Its a win-win. They do have extremely limited seating, but an impressive quantity of tap micros for its size. Might have more taps than seats. Lol.😁On my regular rotation. To go is an option.. Nice to see places like this in the area try and lift it up. We all know this corner needs it. 👍
Delicious. Everything w/ hot chicken is insanely good- the tacos and the sandwich are my favorites. I’m obsessed with the sesame slaw too. Trust the reviews. You won’t be disappointed.
Its a small spot in a strip mall with a helluva menu. The waffles are a great example of a textbook Belgium waffle. The hot chicken is superb especially combined with the syrup and waffle. Im not a fan of their pickles but thats such a small gripe. Be sure to get yourself a cheese empanada to go. Youll thank yourself later.
This is one of the best restaurants in South Nashville, SC Burger is the best burger in Nashville.
Eat local! You wont be sorry. Ive been here several times and every time it is delicious. No matter if I ate on the patio or got it to go, never disappointed.
3 words:Hot. Chicken. Ramen.
Would be a 5 star if they had kid meals.
This place was awesome! I had the hot chicken tacos and possibly the best flavor I’ve had. The staff is super friendly and made ordering easy. I’ll be back as much as possible.
Fantastic little place on nolensville pike. I really recommend their Chicken and Waffles. (Its only $8.50!). They have some really good beers on tap. Black Abbey anyone? :) I must say, if you go, get the CHEESE EMPANADA!!!!!!!! It is delicious!!! Best one Ive ever eaten. The staff is really friendly and kind. This is a new favorite spot for me!
Subculture never fails to satisfy! This place is great. Dont let the small space fool you or keep you from partaking. Hot chicken tacos are always worth the drive for me!
Ordered from postmates for me and my bf. food came fresh, and the spice levels definitely bring the heat. I am a hot/xtra hot person. the chicken was juicy and spice was great! we will be back again. definitely loved the food. we got the hot tacos and chicken and waffles. next decision is hot chicken raman 🥰
You gotta try their chicken n waffles. They are the bomb.com . Beware though. I got the HOT hotsauce thinking they were like most food places that serve watered down hot sauces. I was wrong. Their HOT sauce is hot. Tolerable because I eat spicy food often, but it definitely took me by surprise. The portions are also on point. A good helping of chicken on a big waffle. It definitely filled me up and Im a big guy
Delicious! We had pulled pork ramen, hot chicken tacos, chicken salad and a medium quinoa salad (but it was missing the avocado 😩) We enjoyed everything and recommend!
Great food and great service. A hidden gym!
Hot chick n tacos empanada and a craft dark beer. Amazing every time.
Super expensive but good food!
Nice local food joint in south Nashville with good vibes. They have good hamburgers. I have also had their cheese and pimento cheese empanadas which were wonderful. I dont recommend the beef empanada as it seemed more on the sweet side as opposed to savory - likely due to onions.
Subculture Urban Cuisine iS A DIAMOND IN HICKORY PLAZA!!! Must Try: their Fried Chicken TACOS!!! I could eat them at least 5 DAYS A WEEK!!! I AM NOT JOKING!!!
This quaint little spot in the heart of the Nolensville Road & OHB corridor is a hidden gem with a cult-like following amongst Nashville Hot Chicken lovers, and it is for good reason. The couple that runs it are sweet and friendly, welcoming you in as a customer and family, whether youre there for coffee, a frosty beverage, or a meal. Ive had a couple of the dishes and sampled a friends dish, and all were fabulous. The hot chicken & waffles here (heat level Hot) are fantastic. The boneless thigh was perfectly moist and cooked on the inside and crispy on the outside. The spices Pablo uses in his NHC give a pleasant slight twist on the old school NHC profile, and the bread & butter pickles are a sweet contrast. I saved them for last, because the syrup was the sweet flavor I wanted for the meal. Some people cry Blasphemy! at the thought of putting syrup on their hot chicken, but it comes in the side cup for those people.I sampled the NHC ramen and liked it and may order it next time. Ive also had the NHC sandwich and it was great. If youre looking for a great lunch spot that isnt a chain and wont leave you lined up in the rain, stop into Subculture. It may become your favorite spot in Antioch.
The owner, Pablo Bonacic, has created one of Nashvilles culinary gems in this nondescript and tiny location. Every dish here is unique and every one is worth trying.Last week was Hot Chicken Week and his Hot Chicken Burrito (mine made vegetarian) was stellar.Miss this place and youve really missed something.
Artistic food using fresh ingredients. I always get the quinoa salad because its like a party in my mouth. Friendly and passionate staff.Taco Tuesday is a regular visit for me.I also enjoyed the Cubano sandwich, burgers, pretty much everything. Pablo the co-owner said many dishes contain organic ingredients.
So tasty that I had to bring one home. Thats how hard this place slaps! Hands down, touch down👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Chicken was dry as could be. Even mc donalds Mcchicken is a better chicken sandwich.
2nd Time around and still no Ramen Hot Chicken. Bummer. Chicken and waffles HOT will light you up. The chicken itself was perfect. Crisp outside and super moist. The spice is heavy Cayenne and then a chili oil. Possibly a Thai chili oil. It was intense. Ill be back for ramen /HC. The beer we had was stale. The waffles and syrup was pretty ho hum.
The Nashville Scene mag named it “best sandwich” in Nashville. It’s the “Churrasco Sandwich”. I tried it today. Truly delicious and perfect in every way. I like this place. The wife runs the front, the Chilean husband cooks. And he knows what he’s doing! It’s small but with a lot of heart. It deserves to succeed. I only give it 4 stars because it’s a little small and I’m sure they could be a little more ambitious with their menu. I truly urge you all to go. I can’t wait to try it all!
I may have just found my new favorite. But why did it take me two years to hear about this place?!?! If youre a foodie, go. If youre not, go anyway. You will not be disappointed. For small menu, they have somehow managed to create something for everyone while knocking each dish out of the culinary ballpark. Theyve got Ramen, Hot Chicken (actually, in my opinion, the best hot chicken in Nashville), Churascos, Yerba Mate, craft beer...come on. Totally unfair that theyre this good. :)
The waffle and chicken was delicious. But a piece of advice.... Dont get the hot one ! That thing so dangerously hot! The service was great to.
I was an avid Subculture guest before moving out of state. I was in town this weekend and of course had to get sub culture. I was very happy with the quality of food, speed of service, and taste of food during the pandemic. Nothing has changed and its still dynamite food and one of the best places in Nashville hands down.
Subculture is THE BEST. Weve been eating here for the last couple of years and love how the food is consistently delicious and they always throw in new, creative dishes to the menu. The ramen is unbelievable, same with the chicken sandwich with Asian Slaw (pictured). The burgers are all top-notch, too. Love having such a great place in this area of town. Dont let the location fool you. Subculture is one of the best restaurants in town. We have small kids so eat there for early dinners or order takeout through Uber Eats. Our boys love the cheese empanadas.
Was looking for a good salad close to Lowes, this place has an exceptional Butternut Squash Salad...add Smoked Salmon...and it is beyond exceptional!
Been looking forward to trying this place for a while now. Got a chicken sandwich and fries. The sandwich was drenched/soggy when I got home and I only live down the street. The chicken tasted like it couldve been cooked a bit longer. The sandwich still didnt taste too bad. I just wish the bun wasnt soggy and wish my chicken had been cooked a bit longer. It didnt look like the pictures I had seen on here by other Google maps users or the sandwich on the website.I got a side of fries and a large order of fries. My fries honestly tasted like they were a couple days old. They were soft, cold, and bland. The website also says theyre seasoned but I didnt taste any seasoning at all, or salt.. And Im a fry guy. I deep-fried the fries when I got home at around 350 degrees for about 30 seconds and then I added my own seasoning/salt. It definitely brought some life back into them, but I shouldnt have had to do that.
Subculture is an exceptional place to eat. Everything Ive eaten there has been both delicious and worth the cost. The service staff are friendly and welcoming! If you go, you must try the Empanadas. They are amazing!
Killer hot chicken tacos and ramen, pimento cheese burger and Cuban are all 5 stars!
Absolutely amazing. What a hidden gem!
EXCELLENT FOOD!!!UNIQUE**DELICIOUS**ROBUSTMy fiancée and I came here and were shocked with the concise yet diverse menu, not too many options but something for everyone. We walked in and were met with amazing service and a great recommendation from our cashier. They have a really good LOCAL kombucha collection at the moment which was so surprisingly lovely. He got chicken and waffles at MEDIUM spice which was PHENOMENAL. Mind you though, we are two fairly cultured but still Caucasian southern folks and the chicken was almost too hot for us but ended up being just perfect, so keep that in mind when ordering.I ordered the pulled pork ramen, (AMAZING AS WELL) the pork was crisp yet perfect in the ramen and the mushrooms provided the perfect balance of texture. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu and we are so happy to have such an incredible local spot right around the corner!!IF YOU ARE AROUND, COME HERE.
Based on a recommendation I swung across town to give this Chilean/fusion place a try. When I first walked in I was hit with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, so I went for an Americano brew with freshly ground Frothy Monkey beans...excellent flavor! The menu is compact but offers a lot of variety. I love Empanadas so I ordered a Cheese Empanada and the Hot Chicken Tacos (mild wimpy version) along with a side of Asian Slaw. The crust of the Empanada was really good, but the cheese sauce inside was just OK, lacking any zing to make it special. The tacos on the other hand had significant flavor. From the homemade tortillas, tender chicken, Asian slaw, and the aioli made for a great combination of flavors. There are sandwiches (Chacarero and the Choriburger) I want to try there...looked delicious going to other tables. If you are looking for that small place that takes great care to produce delicious food...you need to visit this place. The service was great, the atmosphere kinda hipster, and the costs very reasonable.
Kind and caring service and very tasty food. I highly recommend this place.
Thats a damn good burger.
Very small place. Great food! The Hot Chicken tacos were very good. If you like really hot stuff, the hot may not be hot enough. I had hot but it was more of a medium hot to me. Will definitely be back to try the stupid hot!
I stopped by this place for the first time today. It is quaint. Clean. And eclectic. I spoke with one of the owners for quite a while. Talking about food is my hearts joy as i am in the food industry as well. He was very detailed in how they produce such wonderful food. I genuinely enjoyed our conversation. Very warm gentleman. But then i got home and opened my food. I ordered the smoked salmon and egg sandwich. When i took my first bite. I think i heard angels sing. This place is incredible. Pricing for what they create is very reasonable. I absolutely cannot wait to go again.
Hot chicken sandwich and burger were great. Excellent fries and friendly staff. Small dining area and patio seating. Quality ingredients, great buns!
Great food, drinks, and service!
Tried the hot chicken with ramen.. very good 👍. Recommend if you like hot.
Get the Cubano you’re welcome
I was excited to see a place close to work that offered healthy food options and when I saw the grilled chicken salad on the menu, that really got the old mouth to watering. At $11.00, the price was pretty high for a grilled chicken salad, especially with it being lunch time. When I returned to work with it, things went from just a simple case of sticker-shock to utter disappointment. First of all, I had envisioned the nice soft fried egg I was promised with lovely liquid yolk running all into my salad, but instead got a hard fried egg that was so done, it was completely brown on the outside instead of being white and was like a piece of leather. The chicken was ok despite having almost zero seasoning whatsoever. Avocado was sliced perfectly and the addition of the pickled onions was a nice touch. The size of the salad was quite small for the price and the amount of chicken, avocado and onions compared to the greens was about 10% toppings and 90% greens. Now, to move on to the final piece of this twisted puzzle.....the dressing. Something they call espresso vinaigrette. At least it sounded good. I really hope that the dressing I put on my salad was not spoiled, as I have no idea what it was supposed to taste like. It was neither espresso or vinaigrette in nature. The appearance was offputting and looked like thick brown gravy. It had a very odd flavor that was extremly unappetizing and oddly chemical-like. Im not sure if it was a combination of the flavors of the onions, etc mixed with the dressing that threw me off, but to put it bluntly......it was pretty freaking gross. If I go again, I will steer clear of this salad that tried but horribly missed the mark.
Food is great, hot chicken with spice level hot is much hotter than anticipated but it was flavorful. Also the French fries were awesome. We had to sit outside for a bit as the place was crowded and the weather was a little chilli, the staff notified us about the availability as soon as it became available. The staff is friendly and nice. The place usually gets crowded and becomes difficult to get hold of seating inside during the lunch hours.
Been coming to this establishment since I arrived in Nashville in 2017. I can honestly say its probably my favorite place to eat! The quality of the food you receive is phenomenal and the staff is inviting and friendly. Always bring people from out of town to this place for a must try! Highly recommend!
We walked 1.5 miles in the snow storm of 2021 for their Ramen and it was 189% worth it!
