Installed an entry sidewalk and sitting area that matched the house vs the generic sidewalk proposed by the builder. Also installed a dining area, outdoor kitchen, and fire pit in the backyard. Extremely usable space created. The designer provided great ideas and was quick to respond. The on-site team works hard, long hours and did a great job on my project.

Had no plans to leave a detailed review until the business owner edited their initial response to my one-star, no written detail rating from an eyewash “Please let us know how we can help” after multiple email correspondences to “We don’t warranty pet damage.”Simply put, if you want general landscaping done, find someone else, even if it costs more money.We were uncertain about SmartScapes from the beginning, as the consultation process seemed subpar at best, and once we notified them we planned to go without artificial turf and instead do natural grass, the care level from that point forward for the customer was close to non-existent.The scope was rock work on the sides of the house and the flower beds, seed on the front and back lawn and four small shrubs installed.The rocks weren’t fully completed until reminded, one side of the yard wasn’t seeded at all (so half the grass was green while the other side was dormant, which took over a month for them to come out and reseed this area), and one of the shrubs started dying within less than 30 days.Of course, none of this was SmartScapes fault…David and Rhianne had an excuse at each turn.They don’t “warranty dead shrubs, it’s industry standard”…despite the fact their competitors indeed do, no questions asked, especially during such a short amount of time after install.After several months of routine watering and waiting in hopes that the shrub would come back (SmartScapes recommendation) and the grass would improve, it did not. In April, 4.5 months after the initial work, we had very spotty looking grass, horrific lines in the rock/stone areas that are separated from the grass, and one dead shrub while the other three are thriving.After an email expressing our disappointment, David offered to reseed the lawn and replace the shrub at no cost, and would give us a quote for adding edging to the rock (which was never brought up to begin with).After a month and a week of no follow up, I reached out again with a photo of the grass (with my dog in the background) that had deteriorated even more kindly asking for an update and a new quote for edging.David’s reply was simply two web links to articles about how dogs can kill grass … the type of articles you’d find if you simply Googled “do dogs kills grass” - a completely absurd reply, without providing any other context.During the initial consultation, we also made SmartScapes aware that we had a pet which led to their choice of grass recommendation which turned out to be utterly worthless as you can see in the photos.After this wildly unprofessional email, the decision was made that we would not deal with this level of immaturity any longer.The depths of excuse making and lack of responsibility reek from this company in all areas, and instead of remedying a minor issue that is very much low cost, the pettiness and elitist mindset they embody led to this review.Every opportunity was given to make it right, and SmartScapes clearly had no intention of doing so. Stay far, far away.

After searching around quite a bit for a local hardscape company to install a paver patio in our backyard, we settled on Smart Scapes. Weve been blown away by not only the final product, but by the amazing team we got to work with. Rhianne was fantastic in helping us visualize what we wanted, picking out the right pavers and design, and even helping us add a custom fire pit enclosure and retaining wall. The installation team were here early every day, and stayed late to keep the project on time. Santiago, the project manager, went above and beyond and was responsive to all our questions and requests. What a great experience - highly recommend!!

When installing pavers a main concern is movement after installation. About 10 years ago, David and Smartscapes replaced our concrete driveway (destroyed in the 2010 flood) with pavers. No small job as the paver area ran almost 200 ft to the road and a huge turnaround.As of today, nothing moved... no sinking, separation, etc. Every paver is in the exact space and at the same level as when it was installed. People I know in the construction industry are amazed when I tell them the driveway is almost 10 years old.We were so pleased with the work, we had Smartscapes build a water feature on the hill next to our built-in pool. The waterfall is 30 feet from the base to the top... huge. Water flows every summer (we shut it down in the winter since no one is out there) and continue to get compliments.We now have David creating a patio area to replace our 25+ year old cedar deck. Another major project as the deck is over 1,500 square feet. Looking forward to working with he and his crew again...

Never got an opportunity to use their services, sent them plans, and what I was looking for, they asked for some pics, sent that off, then never heard from them again. Guess its a blessing if this is how they communicate. I am sure they are busy, but just a simple Hey we will be able to help but it will be until X until we can get to you, I would understand.

Contacted Smartscapes for a large backyard project, covered porch, fireplace, outdoor kitchen, bar etc.They texted me questions and I responded in minutes. I provided numerous pictures of our area and a picture of a finished backyard we liked.No response. Had to Follow-up twice. Nothing. Totally unprofessional. Even if they are busy takes 30 seconds to let me know.Found another contractor, we had a deal done in 24 hours, and they already have the drawings and permits ready to submit. They lost a $150k job!!

My wife and I had Smart Scapes design and build a permeable paver patio in Nashville. It was the first improvement we made to our home since moving to Music City! We had a patio and walkway added to our sloped yard and Smart Scapes did a great job. They arrived when they said they would and completed the job quickly. One of your guys was driving on the interstate with a trailer full rocks with no tarp covering it. The rocks were flying out hitting alot of cars.

DO NOT USE - STAY AWAY!! These people were months late starting the job, the workers required babysitting as they kept making mistakes (not straight lines, not following the design, patio much smaller than promised). Now every time it rains our garage floods, Rhianne has been unresponsive to requests for guidance on how to correct (she said they were “accounting for water” in the design). Now some of our large plantings are dying after just a few months. I asked that they replace the 2 dead plants and here is here text back to me: “We dont warranty plant material without irrigation. Thats industry standard. We dont warranty jobs that negotiated not paying their final bill.” I paid $20,000 on a $20,300 bill. The discount, which we agreed upon, was because the patio turned out to be 10x12 instead of the 12x14 she promised. The bill should have been discounted further if you really subtracted the full cost of materials they didn’t end up using. THESE PEOPLE ARE UNPROFESSIONAL - STAY AWAY!

Smart Scapes did a great job of making sure that the underground drainage they were about to install was going to meet my expectation. I was not at home when they arrived. Foreman Santiago, made videos of the piping layout they were planning and sent it to my phone me for my review. After reviewing the piping laid out on the surface I was comfortable giving them permission to proceed. Would highly recommend.

Asked for a quote and after I sent pictures of the area, my address and email address (as request). I received a text with 8 different pavers and told it would cost about $20 a foot. Their webpage says the do design and install. I’m not sure how I get an idea of what they can by a text with $20 a foot on it. I would say if this is any indication of their professionalism and desire to serve a customer, I won’t be doing business with this company.

Everything about the work was fantastic. We loved the plan that Rhianne made and the workers were fast and courteous. We couldnt have had a better experience.

We hired SmartScapes to do the stone patio and coping around our new pool. Both Rhianne and David are super personable and make it easy to plan such a large project . All in all we are thrilled with how everything turned out . They were on budget and on time and responsive when there was an issue or we had questions or concerns . They were even able to fix one issue we had towards the end that was not an easy fix. I would recommend smartscapes due to their extensive knowledge and technology that come with their services .

David and his team (especially Galen) did an incredible job adding on to our screened porch with a new fireplace, adding a new deck with a cook area/grill, and finishing out underneath the deck with pea gravel. It was a big undertaking, but the guys were here working hard even when the cold weather set in. They helped with suggestions and ideas, made sure everything was finished out nicely, and we are very pleased with the final outcome!

David and his team transformed our dull backyard into a usable, dog-friendly, and easily maintainable space. They installed retaining walls, leveled the yard, laid turf, improved site drainage and installed large stone steps and stepping stones. They had great suggestions and vision for the space. Irritated that I have had two cancellations from this company. First appointment I was called 10mins before my appointment and said he was out of town for something which I said was okay because things come up in life. Second appointment latest that could be had was 4 so I said thats fine with me Ill just have to leave work early which I mentioned. Left work early got to my house waited till 4:15pm to call and check. Come to find out he forgot which I even was going to let that go because he said he was on his way. I get a call back a couple minutes later and he says he is going to cancel again because it will take him to long because traffic was bad then and wouldnt get home till late..... I went out of my way to accommodate and even let things go because life happens and all I got was like Hey sorry I just forgot my phone didnt notify me. If you cancel 10mins before on someone and they are still wanting to do business with you the least you could do is hold up your next appointment.Gave two stars instead of one only because I know things happen.Edit in response to the owner: It was never made clear that those times were not good. You agreed to those times with no problem and if you had not forgotten about the appointment you would have missed rush hour and been there with no problem.

I had Smart Scapes LLC install synthetic turf in my backyard. I simply could NOT get grass to grow there. Too much shade from my trees, which I wanted to keep. I was hesitant to do a synthetic turf option; but I found out that Smart Scapes LLC offers an eco-friendly turf, a recyclable product that lasts a long time and then is totally recyclable once its time to replace it. That sold me. Now I have a beautiful, low maintenance backyard. Couldnt be happier with it. Big shoutout to the Smart Scapes team for doing such excellent work.

Who would have thought that replacing a driveway could actually be fun? I had been dreading this project for some time, but it was finally time to dig up that old beast. My driveway had become more potholes than actual driveway. Were talking a bone-jarring entry and exit to my home. Not fun. Anyway, I hired Davids crew at Smart Scapes to come in and completely tear out the old driveway and replace it with permeable pavers. Now I have a styling and cool, sophisticated driveway that is not only brand new and of a paver style (way fancier than asphalt or concrete) but my driveway also transfers rain through the driveway and into the ground beneath. Really great experience working with David, Santiago, and the rest of the Smart Scapes crew. This team is fast, efficient, and they have a strong attention to detail. We hired them to install driveway pavers for us, since our old, asphalt driveway was more than a little worse for wear. Smart Scapes used a mechanical overlay technique to complete the job in just a matter of a couple days. Very impressive. And thanks to the skill of the install crew, the new pavers are very uniform and precise. We’ll definitely use them again on future hardscaping tasks.

We hired David and his knowledgable crew of Nashville hardscape technicians to come out and assess our tall n skinny Nashville home. We really wanted to build a cool little patio and outdoor kitchenette, but there is just almost NO ROOM at all at our place here. As a member of the property at my Church, I have engaged Smart Scapes to help us with many projects over the last few years. Its difficult to be too specific about what they can do for us, as I find it difficult to find anything they cant do. Notable projects completed include landscape design and installation, of a 30 car parking lot constructed with permeable paver blocks to comply with storm water management regulations in Metro Nashville. They also have repaired dry-stacked stone walls damaged for various reasons. They recently completed a playground for 2 yr. old preschool children, on time and within the budget. This project received rave reviews from the preschool director.

Forest Hills mandated that my replacement driveway be ‘permeable’ to prevent excess water runoff, despite the fact that the original driveway had been there at least 50 years.
