I’m not sure if these guys could have provided a worse first impression at the boat show on 28 Jan 18. I came to the show specifically to look at a 63’ Viking. I was taking my time, because I was very interested. I sat on the couch for about 1 second before the broker yelled at me. I told the broker that I was honestly interested, and I just wanted to see myself in the boat. Then he mocked me by saying “Oh, you were going to buy this boat before I told you not to sit on the couch?” Maybe this had something to do with me being in my late 20’s, and he thought I couldn’t buy a 30 years old Viking. It wasn’t the worst experience I’ve ever had by any means, but it’s the worst I’ve ever been treated by a boat broker. And I’ve bought 3 in the last 3 years.

A few years ago I was looking for a mid sized sportfisher. There were not many for sale in my area (NW), so I had to head to socal to find one.I called a bunch of brokers and could tell right away all they cared about was selling the boat they had listed. (There is no hour meter, but the hours are low, from one broker).I called one listing agent, Marc Bay, on a Viking I was interested in and asked him about the condition.Marc was very, very honest about the condition and told me he did not want me to hop on a plane and be disappointed. He instantly impressed me with his knowledge of the Viking and other boats I was looking at, so I told him I wanted him to help me find a boat.He showed me a bunch of boats and told me the pros and cons of each boat.Even though it was more $$ for him to push the boat he listed, he did not. I ended up buying the boat he had listed and could not have been happier with Marc. It was a short sale and took a lot of work on his part, but he never complained and got it done.I was impressed enough with Marc that I moved my Viking from WA to San Diego to have him sell her.Marc has been around for a long time in a tough business for a reason. He is a straight shooter who knows his business inside and out.Cpt Mike
