Like if the worst Ikea and an overpriced dollar tree had a baby. My friend and I went there to just do some casual window shopping, my mom also sent me there to look at some of their lamps. I was really excited to go, as this store is a staple in Downtown New Albany. But, as soon as we walked in instead of friendly smiles we were met with peculiar glares from the staff. I got the feeling it was because we were teenagers and not their typical middle-aged consumers. Throughout the store, it seemed as though every 5 minutes one employee was sent to check up on us (to see if we were up to no good), without saying a word just staring at us. And if the customer service was bad enough the quality of the furniture was even worse. The walls and carpeting were all outdated. Multiple rooms had only mattresses on the floor decked out with the most gaudy bedspreads Ive ever seen. The only things we liked were the upholstery samples (because we thought they would be cute skirts). The bedrooms were hideous, the paintings and posters were beyond overpriced, and the stores consistency was completely off. The lamp below was $98.00!!!!
I bought a sofa and loveseat and dealt with two salesmen (Kirk & Stephen) and they were both great. No high pressure sales techniques but helped me find all the different furniture sets they had in stock that matched what I was looking for and answered all of my questions with patience and attention to what I was saying. I looked around at a lot of other furniture stores and most were just plain lazy. Treated me like I was not a buyer and was too much trouble to give me the time of day. Well sorry for their loss, I bought from Schmitt. I did have a couple problems with the furniture that I didnt notice until after delivery and the fixed all of the issues without any hassles and in a timely manner. This is the second time I have bought furniture from this company and Ill tell you they have earned my business for life! Very good company to do business with. Its hard to find companies now a days that treats customers like they actually care. I wish there were more companies that did business like they do! Thank you Schmitt Furniture.
Beware! Customer satisfaction is not part of their concern. My wife and I purchased 2 leather sofas. The color of the leather was not what she felt she choose. When asked about returning the sofa’s (for exchange) we were informed ours was a special order. So anything not purchase off the showroom for is considered special order. They WILL NOT even discuss exchange or return.Our advice is to buy from one of the big chain store’s or another reputable store in the area (Louisville). We tried to support a locally owned store and got stuck with item we do not like or even fell we picked out. The sofa’s were by no mean low end sofa’s. Just Beware!!!!!!
Schmitt has some quality furniture however I would choose another furniture store if you are looking for a professional experience. My experience started fine. The sales rep was very helpful in helping me select a sectional and discussing all my options. I paid the deposit and everything seemed normal. Unfortunately, everything went down hill from there. It took 6.5 months for my sectional to arrive. On the delivery day my husband called the store to pay the remaining balance and at first the manager would not accept payment over the phone. The manager insist that he had to give the delivery staff a check. We felt uneasy about entrusting the delivery reps with a check over $4000. So my husband insisted that he accept the payment by phone or he would come to the store and make the payment. Finally the manager agreed. That experience was a little unsettling but nevertheless, I was excited to finally have my furniture. The delivery staff called 5 minutes before they turned into our subdivision. It would have been nice if they had called when they were 30 minutes out but okay not a big deal. They parked up the road at the wrong residence. My husband had to walk up the road and let them know they were at the wrong address. When they finally arrive at our home my husband asked the rep to wear a mask when entering our home. The rep put up a big fuss and went through this big spill about how he was vaccinated and it was too hot to wear a mask. He was down right rude and unprofessional. He then proceeded to ask for a check for the remaining balance even though we had paid that morning. This experience was very disappointing and I would not recommend Schmitt.
The BEST furniture store with AMAZING customer service! My experience was PERFECT from beginning to end. Right when I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff that allowed me to browse around on my own, touching base with me periodically until I was ready to ask some questions. Then, when I was struggling to make some decisions on fabric & leather colors, they introduced me to their interior designer that is always at the store to help. She made the process so much easier and gave me the confidence to move forward that day. I even got to meet a Schmitt family member that actually works there, the 4th generation owner. This place is awesome! Dont even get me started on all of the character that their historic buildings have to offer. It is so cool that there are still family owned & operated businesses that treat you like a real person & actually care about you as a customer. And of course... When it came time for delivery, their men were in Schmitt uniforms & arrived in a huge blue Schmitt truck so I knew exactly who they were & what was going on... Glad to see they are able to have their own delivery men & trucks instead of a 3rd party delivery service that doesnt really care. Like I said, PERFECT experience from beginning to end.
I had a wonderful experience tonight at Schmitt! The person to ask for is a very knowable lady, named Lori. Shes super knowledgeable in everything the multiple floors has to offer. We bought a couch today.. but cant wait to come back and pair different things together when we get settled into our new home. She is legit 100% the best person to know. We felt we were talking and taking guidance from a professor that had a masters degree in interior design. Top notch!
We just received our new mattress from Schmitt Furniture! The employees were so helpful and friendly throughout the entire process. Zack helped us decide on the best mattress for us. He was very knowledgeable! Our mattress arrived in a timely manner and we couldn’t be happier!! It’s so comfortable (which makes it hard for me to want to get out of bed each morning). 😁 We highly recommend Schmitt furniture for all your furniture and mattress needs!! You won’t be disappointed.
Schmitt furniture made it easy for me to decide between multiple options. So easy I bought a couch/love seat and a sectional as well. Adam helped me decide on which couches would fit in living room, basement and narrowed it down to what would look best. Even took measurements on his own time. It ended up being a no brainer going with the Schmitt furniture especially with them having multiple items in STOCK! Appreciate the customer service. I’ll be purchasing again in the future!

My husband and I purchased a couch and chair the Sunday before Easter that was the floor sample. The delivery was to be on 4/7 however I was called the Tuesday and a message left. I checked my messages Wed night and called on Thursday and was told the couch was sold the day before. There was no sold tag so our sales guy did not know. I requested a refund and as of 4.14 I have not received it. It appears they will take your money but hold it until they decide to send it to you. Me and my husband will not recommend or be purchasing anything in the future.

DO NOT order from this company. We ordered back in June and the furniture did not arrive until NOVEMBER. The order was placed on backorder multiple times and the company did not even bother telling us--we had to call 3 times just to ask when the delivery would finally happen. When we finally got the delivery, the DELIVERY MEN WERE NOT WEARING MASKS!! They got extremely close and by the time they left, the house smelled strongly of smoke. The experience was uncomfortable and beyond disappointing. I cannot recommend this service less. PLEASE save yourself the time, money, and stress. So upsetting.

Do not waste your money on Schmitt’s leather protection warranty from Guardsman. It’s a total scam as far as I’m concerned. I paid 300.00 and tried to use only to find all you get is run around no action. Schmitt talked them up and sold the product and you are left with nothing!! I bought Catnapper sofa’s and the leather is coming apart and it’s me and a wife no kids. Don’t buy Schmitt or Guardsman Save you’re money and buy elsewhere.Go online and review guardsman protection, you be the judge!! They sell the insurance knowing how hard it is to file a claim and get results. We will see if Schmitt furniture reaches out to me today as they stated.12/08/20 Ok guess who has failed to reach out to us as they stated in there responce, Schmitt thats who!12/11/20 Guess who just called Schmitt Furniture!! Myself and my husband were in the market for a new mattress and box springs. We had never been to Schmitt Furniture. My friend Karen, highly recommended them to us, so we thought we would see what they had to offer in the way of a new mattress and box springs. When we arrived there, we were greeted by Adam Browning, whose position there was a sales manager. He took us upstairs to show us a large selection of mattress from several different brands. His knowledge about mattresses was exceptional. My husband is very picky when it comes to his sleep. After about an hour, we decided on a beautiful Restonic Connor Firm mattress. We took delivery two weeks later. The delivery team called around 9:15AM on our day of delivery and gave us a two hour window of when they would be arriving. They told me they would be arriving between 2:00 & 4:00. They arrived promptly at 2:20 and were finished and driving away in about 15 minutes.Our experience with Schmitts Furniture was 5-star. We will definitely be back to check them out for our next furniture purchase.
Company sells high quality furniture overall from various vendors, however Louis Schmitt the owner is not very customer oriented when you have a problem from your sale.I myself had to get in touch with the oem to get someone to come out and look into my sofa problems, this is after Schmitt was telling me there hands were tied and if i could reach the oem then try it.Well I did and they responded and took care of my claim within 2-3 weeks. That is sending someone to inspect my sofa and then replacing the sofa seating cores at their expense.To date: I still have not received a phone call from Schmitt furniture to ask about the furniture from the inspection repair firm or the seat cores.........yeah incredible.All Schmitt furniture wanted to do was give me the run around for 16 weeks, talking about Covid issues and this or that was behind etc. Now I do think Covid has caused several issues with supply chains, however we are Schmitt furniture customer and they themselves should have stepped up to the plate and took care of us themselves, and not passing the buck off to the oem. It is Schmitt responsibility to file a claim with the oem and recoup there loss that way, not put it on the backs of their customers!Buyer beware as once you get your furniture in your house, Schmitt only wants to do so much for you, before they shrug their shoulders and respond with its out of our control, sorry for your luck.

A landmark in New Albany for years. If you want real adult grown up furniture that is made to last this is THE place to go. Sales people are not pushy and allow you to roam the huge inventory on your own. No vultures trying to push you into a sale. You can fool around at the other furniture stores and see a few cheaply made pieces or go here and see quality for every room in your house.
Disappointed. Were given incorrect measurements of what turned out to be an odd shaped sofa and loveseat. Turned out looking weird in our room. Shame I have to live with something I really dont like.We did measure part of it ourselves but getting around to the back to see that it was different really could not have been done. Expected to be told if something was non standard size or an unusual shape.

Schmitt takes care of their customers and thats why they have been around for over 80 years! Our Flexsteel recliner broke after the warranty expired. Pat came and fixed it and we quickly were issued a refund for a part that we wound up not needing. Pat did a great job. Jen and Leanne in the office were wonderful. Well definitely continue to be loyal Schmitt customers in the future! We have a house full of Schmitt furniture that I love and I wont shop anywhere else.
Really appreciate the care and attention we received from Sharron and Lori. There must be somthing wrong with my recliner though...everytime I recline it knocks me out. Ha. We got 2 flexsteel recliners and are very happy with the comfort and quality. Thanks for the quick delivery and service.

I loved how when we walked in we were greeted by a sales associate then left to shop on our time. I really dislike when sales people hover. Once we finally made up our mind, which wasnt easy because of all the great options, Kelly drew everything up and made the sale an easy and very enjoyable experience. The loveseat we ordered was to be delivered on Saturday but on Friday I decided to purchase another piece. Not expecting them to deliver it at the same time since it was such short notice but Jo did everything she could and was able to get the second piece on the truck so we got them at the same time. I will definitely be back when it is time for our bedroom set!

I was told 6-8 weeks for delivery. Its been 8 weeks and the couch (custom order) still has not shipped from the manufacturer. I was also told that once it ships, it takes about 2 weeks to get to Schmitt. So add that onto the 8 weeks, plus however long it takes them to deliver to my house. We are looking at probably 10-11 weeks. They told me the holidays pushed things back a bit, but how many days was the manufacturer closed for the holidays really? And if its a significant number, I feel like I should have been told that from the start, like hey this might take a little while longer because of Christmas and New years. I understand 6-8 weeks was an estimate, but I would have appreciated more transparency about how long it actually takes. Once I actually get my couch, I will update this review

Nice furniture store with easy access. There are three floors plus a basement 2 Explorer, looking for recliners. The staff was very friendly and did not stand by you the entire time. I had time to look go through an entire floor before my salesperson came back to check on me. Did not feel pressured at all. Will be going back to get my recliner
Placed a custom order for a sofa on December 18, 2018. We were given an approximate delivery date of 6 to 12 weeks. Time passed and we got the occasional courtesy call keeping us posted. Eventually we were told the manufacturer was having problems getting our specific fabric. Then about a month ago we were told the problem was with the fabric we had chosen for the free cushions. Seems that manufacturer went out of business. So then we were asked to come in and pick another fabric. (Insert curse word here) What?! They couldn’t go ahead and cover the sofa! Apparently not! Geez! I can go anywhere and buy my own (curse word) cheap throw cushions. So now I get a voice mail telling me my sofa (which we paid $1,361.90 for in DECEMBER)! may be in from the manufacturer in late April. The contract states no refund for custom orders because they have no control over the manufacturers. That being the case Schmidt should not offer custom orders. Buyers beware. Just go somewhere else and make sure the sofa you pick out is in the warehouse ready to go. Because I feel pretty sure I will never see the sofa or the $1,361.00 (plus another $119 for the fabric protection plan)! Schmidt, how have you stayed in business!? Shame, shame, shame on you. I have had cars, furniture, appliances, etc, custom ordered over the years (I am 66 years old for God’s sake) and have never encountered this kind of incompetence. And you guys are an old well established business!
This place has a wide selection and nice stuff, but the service is where they shine. GREAT service. We had to get a frame repair done on warranty. Not only did they check it out quickly, fix it quickly and get it back to my house within 24 hours but so friendly and helpful during the whole process. From start to finish and after the sale my best ever experience with furniture buying.
We went in to look for a mattress and found one after two hours of looking. The lady that worked with us said that it would take a **week and a half tops** to be delivered. We just moved in from out of state a day prior and were hoping to get it much sooner but settled and bought a temporary air mattress for the meantime. After two weeks went by and not a word from them, we called them back to get an update and were told that it hadnt even shipped yet. I had to call twice in a week afterwards because they kept telling us that the woman who sold us the mattress and got the commission would get back to us on when it would be shipped and we never heard from her. Finally we call a third time over a span of a week and finally were told that it would be there that Saturday (3-4 days later) **SO ...it took over three weeks to get the mattress.**We would of gone somewhere else to get a mattress because we needed one ASAP but took the saleswomans word. We probably wont be back for any furniture that we need immediately.
Exceptional customer service and top quality furniture! We were on the hunt for a sectional for our new house and the Salesman answered every question we had (we tend to be a bit ridiculous), helped us check measurements, and never pressured us to make a decision. We are thrilled with our purchase and will be going back to look for a dining set and mattress.

I bought at Schmitt an expensive 3 cushion sofa in 2013, 8 way hand tied springs made by King Hickory. Only basic users have been my wife and I and we treat our furniture with care. This sofa is poorly made as the rear corners near the arm cave in, springs are weak. Schmitts only answer was to add more stuffing to the cushions which did not solve any problems. Or, I could pay to have it shipped back to the factory for repair??!!We started complaining within 1st year. NOT a satisfied customer!

Buyer beware!!! We purchased a couch from them just 2 years ago. which was very expensive We also added extended warranty for an additional charge we are now having issues out of the couch which we learn today is made out of cardboard on the armrest and most of the cushions are flattening out, we have the same couch downstairs which is very seldom ever gets touched if you had them side-by-side the one upstairs looks 10 years older . It’s just me and my husband in the house, and my grandson that is six and granddaughter thats two that come over on the weekends so it isn’t that we have kids jumping in horse playing on it daily and me and my husband work six days a week so the amount of usage the couch has gotten over two years is minimal we had them come out today to look at what we needed to do to get warranty work done and was notified that our extended warranty does not cover usage ...... so if you’re in the market for a couch that you cannot use and you want to waste a lot of money go there and buy a couch if you’re actually in the market for a couch that you can use buy elsewhere!

When we tried to order an additional section, we were informed it is no longer available!Were heart broken to have waited 15 weeks to receive our Flex Steele leather sectional and not have what we need.

Schmitt Furniture is a MASSIVE furniture store. Literally, I got lost here. I remember going as a child, and I then recently returned as an adult. I will say they are on the pricey side (at least for people like me... ballin on a budget), but their service is very friendly. Youll have endless options if you shop here, and its not a far drive for Louisvillians. I believe their warranties are also strong. Again... stick with a buddy, because its so big! Youll get lost in the maze of furniture.

Weve bought quite a bit of furniture at Schmidt over the years but I have to say, Im disappointed in them. They are currently running ads on TV that they are having a sale on Flexsteel. We found a Flexsteel recliner in there a few weeks ago so I called them this morning to find out the sale price only to be told they are not having a sale on Flexsteel because their Flexsteel is always on sale. I beg to differ because they are actually higher on their Flexsteel than most everyone else we checked. I asked the sales woman why they were running sale ads on the Flexsteel and she said she didnt know and that maybe it was to get people to come to the store. I also asked her if they price match and she said they do sometimes on a case by case basis. This certainly isnt the Schmidt Furniture weve done business with in the past. Do they have new owners? We have found the recliner for $200.00 less than we were quoted but wanted to give Schmidt an opportunity. Well....we did and well not be visiting the corner of State and Main in New Albany again.
