Nice clean business with a great selection and variety of outdoor goods. Was slightly understaffed and I looked for around 15 minutes for someone to help me but otherwise it was a fine shopping experience.

This is a great sports and outdoor store. They have a large and well stocked fishing and boating section.

We bought a new bicycle and had several question. Lucky for us, the young woman who helped us was very knowledgeable, informative and patient.Everyone working there was friendly and helpful. Its a great place to shop for shoes, clothes, sports equipment, bikes and a lot more!

Went to see if they had handgun ammo in stock. They had most popular calibers in stock. Not a large selection but ammo was available with limited quantity purchases looks like maybe the critical shortages may be easing at least a little.

If youre an outdoorsman this store is definitely for you. Plenty of hunting & fishing items. Very reasonably priced compared to competitor stores. One of few stores that didnt jack up their ammo prices.

The staff were wonderful. They were outstanding. It wasn’t the normal “can I help you (even though I’m just asking because I have to)” it was more like running into an old friend and then asking if there was anything they could help with. It felt like the staff not only cared about helping us but that they actually enjoyed being at work and GOT to help us. They all interacted with not just us but out kids as well. We left feeling like family. On top of that, when we came back the following day to return something, they RECOGNIZED us and said “hey you’re back again!” (Hopefully it was a good thing) the staff made the experience of the store go from eh to “when can we go back again”

This is Bob not Karen. Karen has died. The store seemed okay, clean, neat. Wanted to check out handgun ammo for target practice. None on the shelves. Lots of handguns on display but no ammo. Guess they expect you to use the gun like a club or throw it.

Store people very friendly, prices are good. Only issue was I went online to check on a product. Said it was in stock at New Bern, nc store.. drove 37 miles to store and they did not have it. Store personnel said online inventory is never up to date...so why even bother to have that information on line if it is never accurate....

Great service! The workers were so kind. Also.. when ever I need assistance there was always someone happy to help and well mannered!

We typically dont have an issue at this location however the last 2 times I have went through curbside pickup I have had to wait over 30 minutes and was not acknowledged until I would call the store. This last time I asked to speak to the manager and when I spoke with her (Mya) she was very rude and unprofessional!

This place is #great! It was my first visit to Academy, but it definitely wont be my last. They had an awesome stainless roasting pan, worth 3 inch deep sides, big enough to roast a 26lb. Turkey, or larger {plus a really nice, stainless, roasting rack with a barrel curve curve along with it} on sale for $19.98. I think it said it was normally 40 something. If course, it was Christmas Eve and prices had been slashed, but still ..... thats a bargain. Regardless.

The atmosphere of this place is terrible didnt have anything that I actually needed or wanted and on top of that the shopping experience was so uncomfortable no A/C in the store.

Very happy with the selection of clothing and fishing gear. Very poor customer service for as many people where walking around doing nothing it seemed. Searched around to get help sent to me to get a reel out the case. After being in the area for almost 30 mins looking at specs. Customer service was slow, only one lady working. Three more customers had lined up before I had gotten a simple fishing license.

DO NOT do any FFL transfers through academy sports! They charge whatever they want...every other local gun shop is the normal $20-$25 transfer fee but I was advised by the gun counter employee that Academy apparently doesn’t like getting in other companies guns or parts and charges you $40 for the transfer. I had my part sent back and they completist my business over this...

After making my review we went back the next day. Hoping to see someone else but it was Ricky again and this time he was extremely nice and helpful. He remembered my husband. We had to wait for approval . But later got our shot gun case bullets etc. Spending a little over 500$. Beautiful AK

The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. What a great bunch of folks! They were very patient and answered all questions. And they tried very hard to enforce mask laws even though some of the patrons were being non-compliant.

Management is unprofessional, does not respect store policy as advertised, when asked to respect store policy they begin yelling about how they have a shortage and do not like certain individuals buying the weights., The reality of the situation that know one can deny, I am only asking them to do their job the way it is advertise to me online, which had at this point prompted me to drive 3 hours. I guess in the lady managers defense, i think she has no clue about the products i was trying to buy. She did not understand what she was doing is border line illegal because the products she tried to limit me on, were based on a previous purchase that was not even the same product or product type. The products being purchased were completely different to anyone with basic level understanding. (Olympic 2 weight set vs Standard 1 weight set) They have different purposes and different primary uses, hence why both exist. . Instead of realizing it is two completely separate products, like apples and oranges. She insights a yelling competition over the phone in which she says very personal things instead of acknowledging the store policy as advertised online. If management only cared as much about honoring their policy, as they did policing fitness items in aggressive impractical non systematic fashions, it would be a half way decent place to shop.

Purchased a new gun from them and they couldnt have been more helpful. Nice clean store and pretty well stocked considering the pandemic. Will definitely be back!

Love Academy! Its my favorite place to shop and they usually have decent prices. Love the Magellan shorts they carry for $12 a piece. Very good selection of things for boating and grilling. Highly recommend.

The staff is really nice and helpful. They have a wide array of clothing from Nike, Adidas, Columbia, northface, simply southern and more. They have hard to find items like gymnastic outfits and the prices seemed reasonable. Their store name brand of clothing was so cheap in price, I couldnt believe it, $12 for womans Chino shorts plus they were cute and the quality was actually decent.

Clean. Covid really pulled a number on this store. Ammo zilch. Gun selection not all that great anymore. Guess well have to wait

Ive been around Academy for over a decade. Although my experience has always been in Houston, Texas, my visit to this particular store was just as good as the ones in Texas (minus the Carolina sports team apparel). Academy the right stuff, the right price slogan still holds its name with huge sales throughout the year and items galore. If they dont have the item, theyll ship it to you (stipulations unknown at this time by me). Staff will assist you with anything and they are polite. Store is very well kept.

Very friendly and helpful staff. They noticed I was using a walker and when they realized I needed to go to the other side of the store they got the electric buggy for me, which was a really big help. Only problem, they have only one electric cart. Maybe they should get a couple more. They seem to have a wide variety of stock. I found hand and ankle weights with the help of a knowledgeable sales associate. I plan to return for future sports equipment needs.

Academy Sports in New Bern has a poor selection of sporting firearms. And, they never have enough ammunition. Best to go to Neuse Sports in Kinston or Cedar Point. This makes me sad, because Im in New Bern.

Great store I have to save myself has everything Under One Roof that deals with sporting indoors and Outdoors grilling indoors and Outdoors camping fishing this store has it all Under One Roof the name itself says it all. But the only issue I had what this particular location. I told my son to go pick out two pair of shoes $100 pair and one $40 pair. So he did! Well after arriving at the cashiers location presenting her with the products to be purchased come to find out the shoes that showed had $39 and some change happened to be $69 and some change but me as a customer I dont look at skus is the first thing the young lady look for when I showed her the picture of the product and where its at. The shoes depicted in the picture below are the black and white ones.

As a former athlete and coach, I have spent thousands of hours perfecting my craft in both areas. I have traveled thousands of miles competing and instructing/coaching. And I have spent thousands of dollars on the equipment to get the job done. Yet, it was most difficult, as well as frustrating, to find a place that was as completely equipped with what I needed as is Academy Sports. And Academys prices, along with their variety makes is sufficient for everyone. Never again will I take my business to any other sports retailer.
